The restoration of nonlinearly distorted audio signals, alongside the identification of the applied memoryless nonlinear operation, is studied. The paper focuses on the difficult but practically important case in which both the nonlinearity and the original input signal are unknown. The proposed method uses a generative diffusion model trained unconditionally on guitar or speech signals to jointly model and invert the nonlinear system at inference time. Both the memoryless nonlinear function model and the restored audio signal are obtained as output. Successful example case studies are presented including inversion of hard and soft clipping, digital quantization, half-wave rectification, and wavefolding nonlinearities. Our results suggest that, out of the nonlinear functions tested here, the cubic Catmull-Rom spline is best suited to approximating these nonlinearities. In the case of guitar recordings, comparisons with informed and supervised methods show that the proposed blind method is at least as good as they are in terms of objective metrics. Experiments on distorted speech show that the proposed blind method outperforms general-purpose speech enhancement techniques and restores the original voice quality. We present a head-related transfer function (HRTF) estimation method which relies on a data-driven prior given by a score-based diffusion model. The HRTF is estimated in reverberant environments using natural excitation signals, e.g. human speech. The impulse response of the room is estimated along with the HRTF by optimizing a parametric model of reverberation based on the statistical behaviour of room acoustics. The posterior distribution of HRTF given the reverberant measurement and excitation signal is modelled using the score-based HRTF prior and a log-likelihood approximation. We show that the resulting method outperforms several baselines, including an oracle recommender system that assigns the optimal HRTF in our training set based on the smallest distance to the true HRTF at the given direction of arrival. In particular, we show that the diffusion prior can account for the large variability of high-frequency content in HRTFs.

Music timbre transfer is a challenging task that involves modifying the timbral characteristics of an audio signal while preserving its melodic structure. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on dual diffusion bridges, trained using the CocoChorales Dataset, which consists of unpaired monophonic single-instrument audio data. Each diffusion model is trained on a specific instrument with a Gaussian prior. During inference, a model is designated as the source model to map the input audio to its corresponding Gaussian prior, and another model is designated as the target model to reconstruct the target audio from this Gaussian prior, thereby facilitating timbre transfer. We compare our approach against existing unsupervised timbre transfer models such as VAEGAN and Gaussian Flow Bridges (GFB). Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves both better Fr\'echet Audio Distance (FAD) and melody preservation, as reflected by lower pitch distances (DPD) compared to VAEGAN and GFB. Additionally, we discover that the noise level from the Gaussian prior, $\sigma$, can be adjusted to control the degree of melody preservation and amount of timbre transferred.

This paper presents an unsupervised method for single-channel blind dereverberation and room impulse response (RIR) estimation, called BUDDy. The algorithm is rooted in Bayesian posterior sampling: it combines a likelihood model enforcing fidelity to the reverberant measurement, and an anechoic speech prior implemented by an unconditional diffusion model. We design a parametric filter representing the RIR, with exponential decay for each frequency subband. Room acoustics estimation and speech dereverberation are jointly carried out, as the filter parameters are iteratively estimated and the speech utterance refined along the reverse diffusion trajectory. In a blind scenario where the room impulse response is unknown, BUDDy successfully performs speech dereverberation in various acoustic scenarios, significantly outperforming other blind unsupervised baselines. Unlike supervised methods, which often struggle to generalize, BUDDy seamlessly adapts to different acoustic conditions. This paper extends our previous work by offering new experimental results and insights into the algorithm's performance and versatility. We first investigate the robustness of informed dereverberation methods to RIR estimation errors, to motivate the joint acoustic estimation and dereverberation paradigm. Then, we demonstrate the adaptability of our method to high-resolution singing voice dereverberation, study its performance in RIR estimation, and conduct subjective evaluation experiments to validate the perceptual quality of the results, among other contributions. This letter illustrates the opinion of the molecular dynamics (MD) community on the need to adopt a new FAIR paradigm for the use of molecular simulations. It highlights the necessity of a collaborative effort to create, establish, and sustain a database that allows findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability of molecular dynamics simulation data. Such a development would democratize the field and significantly improve the impact of MD simulations on life science research. Audio domain transfer is the process of modifying audio signals to match characteristics of a different domain, while retaining the original content. This paper investigates the potential of Gaussian Flow Bridges, an emerging approach in generative modeling, for this problem. The presented framework addresses the transport problem across different distributions of audio signals through the implementation of a series of two deterministic probability flows. The proposed framework facilitates manipulation of the target distribution properties through a continuous control variable, which defines a certain aspect of the target domain. Notably, this approach does not rely on paired examples for training. To address identified challenges on maintaining the speech content consistent, we recommend a training strategy that incorporates chunk-based minibatch Optimal Transport couplings of data samples and noise. Comparing our unsupervised method with established baselines, we find competitive performance in tasks of reverberation and distortion manipulation. In this paper, we present an unsupervised single-channel method for joint blind dereverberation and room impulse response estimation, based on posterior sampling with diffusion models. We parameterize the reverberation operator using a filter with exponential decay for each frequency subband, and iteratively estimate the corresponding parameters as the speech utterance gets refined along the reverse diffusion trajectory. A measurement consistency criterion enforces the fidelity of the generated speech with the reverberant measurement, while an unconditional diffusion model implements a strong prior for clean speech generation. Without any knowledge of the room impulse response nor any coupled reverberant-anechoic data, we can successfully perform dereverberation in various acoustic scenarios. Our method significantly outperforms previous blind unsupervised baselines, and we demonstrate its increased robustness to unseen acoustic conditions in comparison to blind supervised methods. Anomaly detection (AD) is a crucial process often required in industrial settings. Anomalies can signal underlying issues within a system, prompting further investigation. This paper presents a novel approach to audio restoration, focusing on the enhancement of low-quality music recordings, and in particular historical ones. Building upon a previous algorithm called BABE, or Blind Audio Bandwidth Extension, we introduce BABE-2, which presents a series of significant improvements. This research broadens the concept of bandwidth extension to \emph{generative equalization}, a novel task that, to the best of our knowledge, has not been explicitly addressed in previous studies. BABE-2 is built around an optimization algorithm utilizing priors from diffusion models, which are trained or fine-tuned using a curated set of high-quality music tracks. The algorithm simultaneously performs two critical tasks: estimation of the filter degradation magnitude response and hallucination of the restored audio. The proposed method is objectively evaluated on historical piano recordings, showing a marked enhancement over the prior version. The method yields similarly impressive results in rejuvenating the works of renowned vocalists Enrico Caruso and Nellie Melba. With the development of audio playback devices and fast data transmission, the demand for high sound quality is rising for both entertainment and communications. In this quest for better sound quality, challenges emerge from distortions and interferences originating at the recording side or caused by an imperfect transmission pipeline. To address this problem, audio restoration methods aim to recover clean sound signals from the corrupted input data. We present here audio restoration algorithms based on diffusion models, with a focus on speech enhancement and music restoration tasks. Traditional approaches, often grounded in handcrafted rules and statistical heuristics, have shaped our understanding of audio signals. In the past decades, there has been a notable shift towards data-driven methods that exploit the modeling capabilities of DNNs. Deep generative models, and among them diffusion models, have emerged as powerful techniques for learning complex data distributions. However, relying solely on DNN-based learning approaches carries the risk of reducing interpretability, particularly when employing end-to-end models. Nonetheless, data-driven approaches allow more flexibility in comparison to statistical model-based frameworks, whose performance depends on distributional and statistical assumptions that can be difficult to guarantee. Here, we aim to show that diffusion models can combine the best of both worlds and offer the opportunity to design audio restoration algorithms with a good degree of interpretability and a remarkable performance in terms of sound quality. We explain the diffusion formalism and its application to the conditional generation of clean audio signals. We address the challenges in estimating 3D human poses from multiple views under occlusion and with limited overlapping views. We approach multi-view, single-person 3D human pose reconstruction as a regression problem and propose a novel encoder-decoder Transformer architecture to estimate 3D poses from multi-view 2D pose sequences. The encoder refines 2D skeleton joints detected across different views and times, fusing multi-view and temporal information through global self-attention. We enhance the encoder by incorporating a geometry-biased attention mechanism, effectively leveraging geometric relationships between views. Additionally, we use detection scores provided by the 2D pose detector to further guide the encoder's attention based on the reliability of the 2D detections. The decoder subsequently regresses the 3D pose sequence from these refined tokens, using pre-defined queries for each joint. To enhance the generalization of our method to unseen scenes and improve resilience to missing joints, we implement strategies including scene centering, synthetic views, and token dropout. We conduct extensive experiments on three benchmark public datasets, Human3.6M, CMU Panoptic and Occlusion-Persons. This letter introduces an innovative method to enhance the quality of audio time stretching by precisely decomposing a sound into sines, transients, and noise and by improving the processing of the latter component. While there are established methods for time-stretching sines and transients with high quality, the manipulation of noise or residual components has lacked robust solutions in prior research. The proposed method combines sound decomposition with previous techniques for audio spectral resynthesis. The time-stretched noise component is achieved by morphing its time-interpolated spectral magnitude with a white-noise excitation signal. This method stands out for its simplicity, efficiency, and audio quality. The results of a subjective experiment affirm the superiority of this approach over current state-of-the-art methods across all evaluated stretch factors. The proposed technique notably excels in extreme stretching scenarios, signifying a substantial elevation in performance. Audio bandwidth extension involves the realistic reconstruction of high-frequency spectra from bandlimited observations. In cases where the lowpass degradation is unknown, such as in restoring historical audio recordings, this becomes a blind problem. This paper introduces a novel method called BABE (Blind Audio Bandwidth Extension) that addresses the blind problem in a zero-shot setting, leveraging the generative priors of a pre-trained unconditional diffusion model. During the inference process, BABE utilizes a generalized version of diffusion posterior sampling, where the degradation operator is unknown but parametrized and inferred iteratively. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using objective and subjective metrics, and the results show that BABE surpasses state-of-the-art blind bandwidth extension baselines and achieves competitive performance compared to informed methods when tested with synthetic data. Moreover, BABE exhibits robust generalization capabilities when enhancing real historical recordings, effectively reconstructing the missing high-frequency content while maintaining coherence with the original recording. Subjective preference tests confirm that BABE significantly improves the audio quality of historical music recordings. The sound of magnetic recording media, such as open-reel and cassette tape recorders, is still sought after by today's sound practitioners due to the imperfections embedded in the physics of the magnetic recording process. This paper proposes a method for digitally emulating this character using neural networks. The signal chain of the proposed system consists of three main components: the hysteretic nonlinearity and filtering jointly produced by the magnetic recording process as well as the record and playback amplifiers, the fluctuating delay originating from the tape transport, and the combined additive noise component from various electromagnetic origins. In our approach, the hysteretic nonlinear block is modeled using a recurrent neural network, while the delay trajectories and the noise component are generated using separate diffusion models, which employ U-net deep convolutional neural networks. According to the conducted objective evaluation, the proposed architecture faithfully captures the character of the magnetic tape recorder. Audio inpainting aims to reconstruct missing segments in corrupted recordings. Most of existing methods produce plausible reconstructions when the gap lengths are short, but struggle to reconstruct gaps larger than about 100 ms. This paper explores recent advancements in deep learning and, particularly, diffusion models, for the task of audio inpainting. The proposed method uses an unconditionally trained generative model, which can be conditioned in a zero-shot fashion for audio inpainting, and is able to regenerate gaps of any size. An improved deep neural network architecture based on the constant-Q transform, which allows the model to exploit pitch-equivariant symmetries in audio, is also presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through objective and subjective metrics for the task of reconstructing short to mid-sized gaps, up to 300 ms. The results of a formal listening test show that the proposed method delivers comparable performance against the compared baselines for short gaps, such as 50 ms, while retaining a good audio quality and outperforming the baselines for wider gaps that are up to 300 ms long. Cu-exchanged zeolites rely on mobile solvated Cu+ cations for their catalytic activity, but the role of framework composition on transport is not fully understood. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations can provide quantitative atomistic insight but are too computationally expensive to explore large length- and time-scales or diverse compositions. We report a machine-learning interatomic potential that accurately reproduces ab initio results and effectively generalizes to allow multi-nanosecond simulations of large supercells and diverse chemical compositions. Biased and unbiased simulations of [Cu(NH3)2]+ mobility show that aluminum pairing in eight-membered rings accelerates local hopping, and demonstrate that increased NH3 concentration enhances long-range diffusion. The probability of finding two [Cu(NH3)2]+ complexes in the same cage - key for SCR-NOx reaction - increases with Cu content and Al content, but does not correlate with the long-range mobility of Cu+. Supporting experimental evidence was obtained from reactivity tests of Cu-CHA catalysts with controlled chemical composition.

This paper presents CQT-Diff, a data-driven generative audio model that can, once trained, be used for solving various different audio inverse problems in a problem-agnostic setting. CQT-Diff is a neural diffusion model with an architecture that is carefully constructed to exploit pitch-equivariant symmetries in music. This is achieved by preconditioning the model with an invertible Constant-Q Transform (CQT), whose logarithmically-spaced frequency axis represents pitch equivariance as translation equivariance. The proposed method is evaluated with objective and subjective metrics in three different and varied tasks: audio bandwidth extension, inpainting, and declipping. The results show that CQT-Diff outperforms the compared baselines and ablations in audio bandwidth extension and, without retraining, delivers competitive performance against modern baselines in audio inpainting and declipping. This paper introduces a novel data-driven strategy for synthesizing gramophone noise audio textures. A diffusion probabilistic model is applied to generate highly realistic quasiperiodic noises. The proposed model is designed to generate samples of length equal to one disk revolution, but a method to generate plausible periodic variations between revolutions is also proposed. A guided approach is also applied as a conditioning method, where an audio signal generated with manually-tuned signal processing is refined via reverse diffusion to improve realism. The method has been evaluated in a subjective listening test, in which the participants were often unable to recognize the synthesized signals from the real ones. The synthetic noises produced with the best proposed unconditional method are statistically indistinguishable from real noise recordings. Audio bandwidth extension aims to expand the spectrum of narrow-band audio signals. Although this topic has been broadly studied during recent years, the particular problem of extending the bandwidth of historical music recordings remains an open challenge. This paper proposes BEHM-GAN, a model based on generative adversarial networks, as a practical solution to this problem. The proposed method works with the complex spectrogram representation of audio and, thanks to a dedicated regularization strategy, can effectively extend the bandwidth of out-of-distribution real historical recordings. The BEHM-GAN is designed to be applied as a second step after denoising the recording to suppress any additive disturbances, such as clicks and background noise. We train and evaluate the method using solo piano classical music. The proposed method outperforms the compared baselines in both objective and subjective experiments. The results of a formal blind listening test show that BEHM-GAN significantly increases the perceptual sound quality in early-20th-century gramophone recordings. For several items, there is a substantial improvement in the mean opinion score after enhancing historical recordings with the proposed bandwidth-extension algorithm. Enhancing the sound quality of historical music recordings is a long-standing problem. This paper presents a novel denoising method based on a fully-convolutional deep neural network. A two-stage U-Net model architecture is designed to model and suppress the degradations with high fidelity. The method processes the time-frequency representation of audio, and is trained using realistic noisy data to jointly remove hiss, clicks, thumps, and other common additive disturbances from old analog discs. The proposed model outperforms previous methods in both objective and subjective metrics. The results of a formal blind listening test show that real gramophone recordings denoised with this method have significantly better quality than the baseline methods. In this work, we study self-supervised representation learning for 3D skeleton-based action recognition. We extend Bootstrap Your Own Latent (BYOL) for representation learning on skeleton sequence data and propose a new data augmentation strategy including two asymmetric transformation pipelines. We also introduce a multi-viewpoint sampling method that leverages multiple viewing angles of the same action captured by different cameras. In the semi-supervised setting, we show that the performance can be further improved by knowledge distillation from wider networks, leveraging once more the unlabeled samples. We conduct extensive experiments on the NTU-60 and NTU-120 datasets to demonstrate the performance of our proposed method.
