There are profound methodological challenges facing microdosing research. One way we can address some of these methodological issues is by understanding how psilocybin microdosing fits in the broader existential context of people’s lives. We recruited participants who underwent psilocybin microdosing on their own and consented to being monitored for harm mitigation purposes. We combined momentary ecological assessment and detailed retrospective interviews. Participants reported loosening of mental structures (i.e., less intense strength of thoughts, tangential stream of consciousness), increased salience of external stimuli (varyingly associated with greater interest in otherwise mundane activities, as well as sensory overload), an increase in flexible cognition, a decrease in stable cognition, and various ego-dystonic contents. Highly structured environments were conducive to positive appraisal of experiences and vice versa. Momentary ecological assessment and retrospective interviews yielded differing accounts of microdosing experience. We relate our findings to stable and flexible cognition, as well as the notion of salience. We point out the necessity for systematic mixed methods studies to better characterize the lived experience of taking low doses of psilocybin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: Although there is strong evidence of the positive effects of physical exercise on health, adherence to face-to-face exercise programs in the adult population is low, identifying several barriers that hinder their practice. There is research that demonstrates the viability of physical exercise programs with the use of Mobile Health in Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) mode, which contributes to overcoming many reported barriers. To synthesize the methodological characteristics and health effects of physical exercise programs based on mobile health in EMA modality in adults in developing countries. Materials and Methods: This systematic review was conducted according to guidelines established by the PRISMA statement in APA PsycArticles and CINAHL databases by EBSCOhost, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science for articles published between 2008 and March 2024. Results: Telephone counseling on clinical–behavioral factors is believed to reduce morbidity and mortality in developed countries, but this aspect is not explored in developing countries. We included nine randomized controlled trials with a total of 4394 male and female participants aged 18 to 60 years. The interventions were mainly carried out by text messages, lasting between 20 to 80 min per session, 3 to 5 days per week, and most were carried out over 12 months. The interventions on the variables of physical activity, nutrition, and medical assessments showed significant effects, and variables such as quality of life and anthropometric measurements were not significant in most studies. Conclusions: This systematic review included studies from different developing countries, the most common diseases being diabetes, overweight, obesity, and hypertension. All the studies used mobile devices as the technology, finding a profile of the adults studied, as well as the characteristics of exercise programs based on mobile health in EMA modality. Abstract Background Admission to the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) for long-term video-electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring (VEEG) constitutes the gold standard for seizure diagnosis and presurgical evaluation. This study applied the concept of a high-frequency systematic monitoring of psychological states and tested patients' compliance in order to evaluate if its integration in the EMU is feasible and if patients benefit from the graphically underpinned discussion of their EMU stay-related cognitions and emotions. Methods The process-monitoring is technically realized by an internet-based device for data collection and data analysis, the Synergetic Navigation System (SNS). A convenient sample was enrolled: All eligible patients who were admitted to the EMU of the Department of Neurology, Christian Doppler Medical Center, Salzburg, Austria, between November 6th 2017 and January 26th 2018 were approached and recruited upon consent. After a short resource-oriented interview, each enrolled patient was provided with a tablet. The daily questionnaire included eight standardized and up to three personalized items. Self-assessments were collected every 5 h prior to meal times (6:30 am, 11:30 am, and 4:30 pm) and at 9:30 pm. The detailed visualizations of the patients' replies were discussed with the participants during a feedback session at the end of the EMU stay. Results Twenty-one patients (12 women/9 men, median age 29 years [range 18–74 years]) were consecutively recruited (72% of all eligible patients). Compliance rates were high (median: 82%, range 60%–100%) among the respondents. Mood correlated strongly with hopefulness (r = 0.71) and moderately with energy (r = 0.63) in all patients. When correlating the intraindividual medians of the process questionnaire time series with the pretest total scores, energy correlated moderately and negatively with the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (r = − 0.45), while self-efficacy correlated moderately and negatively with the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) total scores in all patients (r = − 0.5). Nine patients (43%) reported that they learned something meaningful about themselves after the feedback discussion of their individual time series. Conclusion The results support the feasibility of high-frequency monitoring of psychological states and processes in routine EMU settings. Repeated daily collections four times per day of psychological surveys allow for the assessment of highly resolved, equidistant time series data, which gives insight into psychological states and processes during EMU admission. Its feasibility is documented by a compliance study on 151 clients treated in an inpatient and a day-treatment clinic. Results. We found high compliance rates (mean: 78.3%, median: 89.4%) amongst the respondents, independent of the severity of symptoms or the degree of impairment. Compared to other diagnoses, the compliance rate was lower in the group diagnosed with personality disorders. Conclusion. The results support the feasibility of high-frequency monitoring in routine psychotherapy settings. Daily collection of psychological surveys allows for assessment of highly resolved, equidistant time series data which gives insight into the nonlinear qualities of therapeutic change processes (e.g., pattern transitions, critical instabilities).

Objectives: The aim of the study was to analyze if the deprogramming of Awake Bruxism (AB) with New Technologies (Biofeedback-Electromyography and E-health or M-health) might have an effect on Sleep Bruxism (SB). Materials and Methods: Systematic Review of the Literature on the Topic of Bruxism, New Technologies, Biofeedback and Electromyogram (BF-EMG), with interventions on AB and its effect on SB with the following search terms: ((("BRUXISM") OR ("SLEEP BRUXISM") OR ("AWAKE BRUXISM")) AND ((("EHEALTH") OR ("MHEALTH") OR ("SMARTPHONE") OR ("ECOLOGICAL MOMENTARY ASSESSMENT") OR ("DESENCOSTE OS SEUS DENTES") OR ("BRUXAPP") OR ("BIOFEEDBACK") OR ("ELECTROMYOGRAPHY"))) An exhaustive Search of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) in the Bibliographic databases PubMed, EBSCO, Scopus, Web of Science, Ovid and Google Scholar was performed from September 2020 to april 2022.). The population of this SR were randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that respected the research question, with adults with AB and / or SB subjected to tests for EMG, Biofeedback or use of mobile applications for smartphones (Apps). The exclusion criteria were animal studies, bruxism study in children and adolescents. Bruxism treatment techniques that included botulinum toxin, relaxation orthosis (without biofeedback) medications such as treatment, laser, music, physiotherapy, muscle stretching, music, cognitive therapy and other therapies that do not respect the initial question of this review. Results: We could only include 2 RCTs with BF-EMG intervention in AB and its effect on SB. RCTs show that there are studies of BF-EMG acting on AB and that BF-EMG may have an effect on SB. (1,2) Although Mobile Apps for Smartphones can be useful to determine the Prevalence and Deprogramming of AB, there are no RCTs with Mobile Apps to be able to confirm that AB Deprogramming might be useful in the management of SB. Conclusions: According to the results of the Systematic Review it seems possible to partially deprogram SB with BF-EM Deprogramming of AB, but the scarcity of RCTs does allow to unequivocally confirm this assumption.
