23. Optimal Technical and Economical Operation of Microgrids through the Implementation of Sequential Quadratic Programming Algorithm

Abstract

In this paper, the optimal operation of a microgrid is investigated when the network is connected at a 24-hour interval for a specific day. For the optimal operation, some criteria, such as the simultaneous reduction in operation costs, losses, and voltage deviations, as well as the increase in reliability are taken into consideration. Given the capacity of the installed units, a part of the load of the demanded energy is always supplied by the grid. In line with the objectives set, planning for the charge and discharge of storage systems as well as the interaction among distributed power generators are investigated. The operation process is considered as an optimization problem, and the created problem is solved by the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm. In addition, by implementing the Demand Response (DR) program in the optimal operation, the acquired results are compared with those obtained when this strategy is not employed. Simulation results indicate that the utilization of the Demand Response (DR) program in the optimal operation of the microgrid leads to a number of improvements. To elucidate it more, in addition to the decrease in the operation costs of the microgrid, the voltage deviation indices, reliability, and losses are improved contrary to non-DR schemes.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become the leading societal concern. The pandemic has shown that the public health concern is not only a medical problem, but also affects society as a whole; so, it has also become the leading scientific concern. We discuss in this treatise the importance of bringing the world's scientists together to find effective solutions for controlling the pandemic. By applying novel research frameworks, interdisciplinary collaboration promises to manage the pandemic's consequences and prevent recurrences of similar pandemics.

30. Why Medical Journalism Wins Public Health Journalism: Systems Thinking Recommendations for Health-Promoting Media

Abstract

Purpose: Health-related issues are widely covered in news agencies by medical and health journalists. The quantity, format and quality of their coverage influence the general public as well as policymakers and professions. Current studies and observations suggest that news agencies are more dominated by medical topics (disease, symptoms, epidemiology, treatment and medicines) than general public health issues (risk prevention, health protection, education and promotion). This study explores the causes of the current situation in Iran and generates solutions for supporting health-promoting media that may also prove beneficial for other countries. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative study was conducted to explore the coverage of health-related topics in selected news agencies. Stakeholders, including health journalists, health professionals and public relations staff at the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education were interviewed. Data were collected until data saturation was reached. The transcripts of all the 17 interviews conducted were analyzed using conventional content analysis. Findings: Four groups of causes were identified, including individual factors, organizational factors, socioeconomic factors and the different nature of medicine and public health. The participants proposed several solutions that were classified into three categories, including the empowerment of stakeholders through capacity development, organizational change and mutual communication and culture change. Originality/value: Creating health-promoting media is a complex but urgent task, and providing a comprehensive and deep understanding of the dynamic interdependencies of the multiple factors at play in it and developing and implementing the most effective interventions for it requires a systematic approach.

45. Dialogic Health Literacy Curriculum Development for Iranian Pre-Service Teachers: A Qualitative Inquiry

Abstract

Schools have the potential to be key settings for promoting health literacy, provided teachers are health literate. To this end, it is critical that pre-service health literacy curricula can adequately prepare teachers to meet the health literacy needs of future generations. In this study, we bring into focus the elements of a health literacy curriculum design, using the Dialogue Education approach. In an iterative process, qualitative inquiry methods were applied to develop the components of a dialogic health literacy curriculum for pre-service teacher education in Iran. The research design included two focus groups interviews with pre-service teachers, 12 face-to-face interviews with an expert panel, and a qualitative survey with 228 practicing teachers in Tehran. Data were analysed using thematic analysis, wherein they were coded and categorised in predetermined themes according to Vella's [2008. "On teaching and learning: Putting the principles and practices of Dialogue Education into Action." San Francisco, CA: Jossey-Bass] curriculum components. This paper focuses on the processes undertaken in the development of a dialogic health literacy curriculum. The curriculum is characterised by a focus on the educational needs of the learners, positioning teachers as health promotion agents and providing neophyte teachers with a range of pedagogic resources for developing key health concepts.
