Production planning is a medium-term tactical decision that determines the level of employees, inventories, and production required to meet demand on a planning horizon. a mathematical model was designed for aggregate production planning in medium metalworking industry, where a mixed strategy of production planning that included chase (hiring and firing) and level of inventories was developed, from a linear programming model. The results showed the quantity of required employees, hiring, production levels per working shift and inventories, for each process, which minimize the associated costs with the plan and meet the demand requirements. The mathematical model designed and the process followed for the aggregate production planning, are a tool to support decisionmaking in operations management, and can be implemented in companies in the metalworking industry.
