Background: Parenting interventions are effective for improving child conduct problems (CPs), but online self-directed interventions are required to improve reach and impact. Mothers are the main users of such programmes; fathers show low participation rates despite evidence of increased efficacy when they participate., Methods: This randomised controlled trial examined the efficacy of Family Man, a brief, self-directed online parenting intervention for fathers and mothers of children with CPs. The intervention involves several innovative design features to maximise the engagement of fathers. Families (N = 103; 102 mothers, 78 fathers) seeking help with managing their 2- to 8-year-old child's CPs were randomly assigned to either the Family Man intervention condition (n = 53) or a 4-week waitlist control group (n = 50). Primary outcomes were frequency and severity of child CPs and secondary outcomes included dysfunctional parenting, parenting efficacy, parenting stress, parental psychological distress, household disorganisation and interparental conflict., Results: Repeated measures ANOVAs/MANOVAs found that at 4-week post-assessment, parents in the intervention group reported significantly lower levels of child CPs than waitlist. Significant effects for the intervention group relative to waitlist were also found across all secondary outcomes examined. Intervention effects were maintained at 2-month follow-up for the intervention group. Outcomes did not significantly differ for mothers and fathers., Conclusions: Results support the efficacy of this brief, self-directed online parenting intervention in improving child CPs and a range of parent and family outcomes, both for fathers and mothers. Implications for improving the reach and impact of parenting interventions and increasing father engagement, are discussed., (© 2024 The Author(s). An attentional bias toward threat has been theorized to be a normative aspect of infants' threat and safety learning, and an indicator of risk for internalizing psychopathology in older populations. To date, only four studies have examined this bias using the dot-probe task in infancy and the findings are mixed. We extended the literature by examining patterns of attention to threat in a culturally and linguistically diverse sample of infants aged 5-11 months old (N = 151) using all measures previously employed in the infant dot-probe literature. Given that an attentional bias toward threat is associated with higher risk of developing anxiety disorders later in life, we also examined how negative affect-an early correlate of later anxiety disorders-is related to attentional bias toward threat in infancy. This study was the first to use a consistent measure of negative affect across the whole sample. An eye-tracking dot-probe task was used to examine attentional bias toward threat (i.e., angry faces) relative to positive (i.e., happy faces) stimuli. Results showed that an attention bias to threat was not characteristic of infants at this age, and negative affect did not moderate the putative relationship between attention and emotional faces (angry, happy). Background: From birth, the human propensity to selectively attend and respond to critical super-stimuli forms the basis of future socio-emotional development and health. In particular, the first super-stimuli to preferentially engage and elicit responses in the healthy newborn are the physical touch, voice and face/eyes of caregivers. From this grows selective attention and responsiveness to emotional expression, scaffolding the development of empathy, social cognition, and other higher human capacities. In this paper, the protocol for a longitudinal, prospective birth-cohort study is presented. The major aim of this study is to map the emergence of individual differences and disturbances in the system of social-Responsiveness, Emotional Attention, and Learning (REAL) through the first 3 years of life to predict the specific emergence of the major childhood mental health problems, as well as social adjustment and impairment more generally. A further aim of this study is to examine how the REAL variables interact with the quality of environment/caregiver interactions., Methods/design: A prospective, longitudinal birth-cohort study will be conducted. Interactions between bacteria govern the progression of respiratory infections; however, the mechanisms underpinning these interactions are still unclear. Understanding how a bacterial species comes to dominate infectious communities associated with respiratory infections has direct relevance to treatment. In this study, Burkholderia, Pseudomonas, and Staphylococcus species were isolated from the sputum of an individual with Cystic Fibrosis and assembled in a fully factorial design to create simple microcosms. Measurements of growth and habitat modification were recorded over time, the later using proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectra. The results showed interactions between the bacteria became increasingly neutral over time. Concurrently, the bacteria significantly altered their ability to modify the environment, with Pseudomonas able to utilise secondary metabolites produced by the other two isolates, whereas the reverse was not observed. This study indicates the importance of including data about the habitat modification of a community, to better elucidate the mechanisms of bacterial interactions.

The utilization of a myocutaneous flap based on the gracilis muscle is described in two patients who had a persistent perineal sinus following proctocolectomy for Crohn's disease. In each case the posterior vaginal wall had eroded to form a fistula. This flap provided a cutaneous surface with good sensation to replace the posterior vaginal wall and tissue bulk to fill the excised cavity. A good functional result was obtained in each patient. This technique provides a useful contribution to the management of this unusual complication.
