We discuss the results of $^{75}$As Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) and muon spin relaxation measurements in AFe$_2$As$_2$ (A= Cs, Rb) iron-based superconductors. We demonstrate that the crossover detected in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ (around 150 K in RbFe$_2$As$_2$ and around 75 K in CsFe$_2$As$_2$), from a high temperature nearly localized to a low temperature delocalized behaviour, is associated with the onset of an inhomogeneous local charge distribution causing the broadening or even the splitting of the NQR spectra as well as an increase in the muon spin relaxation rate. We argue that this crossover, occurring at temperatures well above the phase transition to the nematic long-range order, is associated with a charge disproportionation at the Fe sites induced by competing Hund's and Coulomb couplings. In RbFe$_2$As$_2$ around 35 K, far below that crossover temperature, we observe a peak in the NQR $1/T_1$ which is possibly associated with the critical slowing down of electronic nematic fluctuations on approaching the transition to the nematic long-range order., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

We report on an experimental study of the effect of Mn impurities in the optimally doped LaFeAsO$_{0.89}$F$_{0.11}$ compound. The results show that a very tiny amount of Mn, of the order of 0.1\%, is enough to destroy superconductivity and to recover at low temperatures both the magnetic ground state and the orthorhombic structure of the pristine LaFeAsO parent compound. The results are discussed within a model where electron correlations enhance the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction among impurities.

We present a \asnmr Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and resistivity study of the effect of 5.5 MeV proton irradiation on the optimal electron doped ($x=$ 0.068) and overdoped ($x=$ 0.107) Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ iron based superconductors. While the proton induced defects only mildly suppress the critical temperature and increase residual resistivity in both compositions, sizable broadening of the NMR spectra was observed in all the irradiated samples at low temperature. The effect is significantly stronger in the optimally doped sample where the Curie Weiss temperature dependence of the line width suggests the onset of ferromagnetic correlations coexisting with superconductivity at the nanoscale. 1/T$_2$ measurements revealed that the energy barrier characterizing the low energy spin fluctuations of these compounds is enhanced upon proton irradiation, suggesting that the defects are likely slowing down the fluctuations between ($0,\pi)$ and ($\pi$,0) nematic ground states., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

The deliberate insertion of magnetic Mn dopants in the Fe sites of the optimally-doped SmFeAsO0.88-F0.12 iron-based superconductor can modify in a controlled way its electronic properties. The resulting phase diagram was investigated across a wide range of manganese contents (x) by means of muon-spin spectroscopy (muSR), both in zero- and in transverse fields, respectively, to probe the magnetic and the superconducting order. The pure superconducting phase (at x < 0.03) is replaced by a crossover region at intermediate Mn values (0.03 =< x < 0.08), where superconductivity coexists with static magnetic order. After completely suppressing superconductivity for x = 0.08, a further increase in Mn content reinforces the natural tendency towards antiferromagnetic correlations among the magnetic Mn ions. The sharp drop of Tc and the induced magnetic order in the presence of magnetic disorder/dopants, such as Mn, are both consistent with a recent theoretical model of unconventional superconductors [M. Gastiasoro et al., ArXiv 1606.09495], which includes correlation-enhanced RKKY-couplings between the impurity moments., Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures. Accepted on Physical Review B

$^{75}$As Nuclear Magnetic (NMR) and Quadrupolar (NQR) Resonance were used, together with M\"{o}ssbauer spectroscopy, to investigate the magnetic state induced by Mn for Fe substitutions in F-doped LaFe$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$AsO superconductors. The results show that $0.5$% of Mn doping is enough to suppress the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ from 27 K to zero and to recover the magnetic structure observed in the parent undoped LaFeAsO. Also the tetragonal to orthorhombic transition of the parent compound is recovered by introducing Mn, as evidenced by a sharp drop of the NQR frequency. The NQR spectra also show that a charge localization process is at play in the system. Theoretical calculations using a realistic five-band model show that correlation-enhanced RKKY exchange interactions between nearby Mn ions stabilize the observed magnetic order, dominated by $Q_1=(\pi,0)$ and $Q_2=(0,\pi)$ ordering vectors. These results give compelling evidence that F-doped LaFeAsO is a strongly correlated electron system at the verge of an electronic instability., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures and 4 pages of supplemental material

$^{75}$As, $^{87}$Rb and $^{85}$Rb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and $^{87}$Rb nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements in RbFe$_2$As$_2$ iron-based superconductor are presented. We observe a marked broadening of $^{75}$As NQR spectrum below $T_0\simeq 140$ K which is associated with the onset of a charge order in the FeAs planes. Below $T_0$ we observe a power-law decrease in $^{75}$As nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate down to $T^*\simeq 20$ K. Below that temperature the nuclei start to probe different dynamics owing to the different local electronic configurations induced by the charge order. A fraction of the nuclei probes spin dynamics associated with electrons approaching a localization while another fraction probes activated dynamics possibly associated with a pseudogap. These different trends are discussed in the light of an orbital selective behaviour expected for the electronic correlations., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures and 4 pages of supplemental material

Muon Spin Rotation ($\mu$SR) and $^{19}$F Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurements were performed to investigate the effect of Mn for Fe substitutions in La$_{1-y}$Y$_{y}$Fe$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$AsO$_{0.89}$F$_{0.11}$ superconductors. While for $y = 0$ a very low critical concentration of Mn ($x = 0.2$%) is needed to quench superconductivity, as $y$ increases the negative chemical pressure introduced by Y for La substitution stabilizes superconductivity and for $y= 20$% it is suppressed at Mn contents an order of magnitude larger. A magnetic phase arises once superconductivity is suppressed both for $y$=0 and for $y= 20$%. Low-energy spin fluctuations give rise to a peak in $^{19}$F NMR $1/T_1$ with an onset well above the superconducting transition temperature and whose magnitude increases with $x$. Also the static magnetic correlations probed by $^{19}$F NMR linewidth measurements show a marked increase with Mn content. The disruption of superconductivity and the onset of the magnetic ground-state are discussed in the light of the proximity of LaFeAsO$_{0.89}$F$_{0.11}$ to a quantum critical point., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures

We present nuclear magnetic resonance evidence that very slow ($\leq 1$ MHz) spin fluctuations persist into the overdoped regime of Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Rh$_{x}$)$_2$As$_2$ superconductors. Measurements of the $^{75}$As spin echo decay rate, obtained both with Hahn Echo and Carr Purcell Meiboom Gill pulse sequences, show that the slowing down of spin fluctuations can be described by short-range diffusive dynamics, likely involving domain walls motions separating $(\pi/a,0)$ from $(0,\pi/a)$ correlated regions. This slowing down of the fluctuations is weakly sensitive to the external magnetic field and, although fading away with doping, it extends deeply into the overdoped regime., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

$^{19}$F NMR measurements in optimally electron-doped La$_{1-y}$Y$_{y}$Fe$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$AsO$_{0.89}$F$_{0.11}$ superconductors are presented. In these materials the effect of Mn doping on the superconducting phase is studied for two series of compounds ($y= 0$ and $y= 0.2$) where the chemical pressure is varied by substituting La with Y. In the $y=0.2$ series superconductivity is suppressed for Mn contents an order of magnitude larger than for the $y=0$ series. For both series a peak in the $^{19}$F NMR nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ emerges upon Mn doping and gets significantly enhanced on approaching the quantum phase transition between the superconducting and magnetic phases. $^{19}$F NMR linewidth measurements show that for similar Mn contents magnetic correlations are more pronounced in the $y=0$ series, at variance with what one would expect for $\vec Q=(\pi/a,0)$ spin correlations. These observations suggest that Mn doping tends to reduce fluctuations at $\vec Q=(\pi/a,0)$ and to enhance other low-frequency modes. The discovery of deep spectral features in the X-ray spectrum of 1E1207.4-5209 focussed the attention of the astronomical community on this radio-quiet NS, making it the most intensively observed INS ever. The harvest of X-ray photons, collected mainly by XMM-Newton, unveiled a number of unique characteristics, raising questions on this source very nature., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures; to be published in Memorie della Societa' Astronomica Italiana, the Proceedings of the EPIC Consortium (held on Oct 14-16, 2003 in Palermo)

In August 2002, XMM-Newton devoted two full orbits to the observation of 1E 1207.4-5209, making this isolated neutron star the most deeply scrutinized galactic target of the mission. Thanks to the high throughput of the EPIC instrument, ~360,000 photons were collected from the source, allowing for a very sensitive study of the temporal and spectral behaviour of this object. The spectral data, both time-averaged and phase-resolved, yield one compelling interpretation of the observed features: cyclotron absorption from one fundamental (~0.7 keV) and three harmonics, at ~1.4, ~2.1 and ~2.8 keV. Possible physical consequences are discussed, also on the basis of the obvious phase variations of the features' shapes and depths. We also present deep VLT optical data which we have used to search for a counterpart, with negative results down to ~27., Comment: 25 pages, 9 postscript figures. The discovery of deep spectral features in the X-ray spectrum of 1E1207.4-5209 has pushed this Isolated Neutron Star (INS) out of the chorus line, since no other INS has shown significant features in its X-ray continuum. On August 2002, XMM-Newton devoted a two-orbit TOO observation to this target with the aim to better understand the nature of such spectral features, using much improved statistics. Indeed, the 260 ksec observation yielded 360,000 photons from 1E1207.4-5209, allowing for a very sensitive study of the temporal and spectral behaviour of this object., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures.
