3. Management of the False Lumen in Post Type A Aortic Dissection Arch Aneurysms Treated With Branched Endografts.

Abstract

Introduction: The treatment of chronic postdissection aneurysms of the aortic arch is a challenge. This study aims to describe false lumen management after aortic arch endovascular repair of post-type A dissection aneurysms treated with a branched endograft. Methods: In this single-center retrospective observational study, all consecutive patients undergoing endovascular treatment of aneurysmal degeneration of chronic type A aortic dissections following open repair were enrolled. The primary endpoint was maximal aortic diameter evolution measured on computed tomography angiography (CTA) performed during follow-up. Secondary endpoints included procedural success, aortic re intervention, and remodeling during follow-up. Results: Between January 2017 and June 2020, 22 patients underwent endovascular branched arch repair for post type A dissection aneurysms. Technical success was 100%. Thirteen patients (59%) had dissection involvement of at least 1 supra-aortic vessel. Midterm follow-up CTA was performed for 20 patients, 23.1 (±13.3) months after the procedure. Maximal aortic diameter at the level of the repair was decreasing in 13 (65%) patients, increasing in 2 (10%) patients, and no change was observed in 5 (25%) patients. During follow-up, 7 patients (35%) required aortic reintervention. Thoracic candy plugs were implanted for distal false lumen occlusion in 15 patients and associated with a high rate of complete remodeling (6/15 patients, 40%). Conclusion: Arch branch endografting of aneurysmal evolution of a post type A dissection aortic arch is a safe and feasible option in experienced hands. Candy plug use in favorable anatomies seems to be associated with accelerated remodeling of the aorta. Clinical Impact: There are currently no recommendations on dissected supra- aortic vessels management and the use of thoracic aorta false lumen occlusion devices during endovascular repair of chronic post dissection aneurysm of the aortic arch with branched endografts. Abstract

Solid oxide electrolysis is considered an efficient technology to produce hydrogen. To deploy electrolysers at the GW scale, an increase in the individual component size (cells and stacks in particular) is required. The integration of larger cells (200 cm2 active area) into 25‐cell stacks has been successfully performed. Performances were in the range of –0.8 to –0.9 A cm−2 at 1.3 V at 700°C. The number of cells has also been increased to 50 and 75 cells. For this latter 75‐cell stack, the assembly of three 25‐cell substacks was considered. Good gastightness and high performances were achieved, although connections between substacks add a serial resistance that affects the stack total performances. Nevertheless, a current density of more than –0.8 A cm−2 was obtained at 1.3 V and 700°C, consistent with individual substack performances. Finally, a stack made of 50 200 cm2 cells has been assembled. Although a stack deformation was visible due to individual component thickness scattering, a good gastighness was achieved and a current density of –0.9 A cm−2 at 1.3 V and 700°C was measured. The low voltage scattering highlighted a good homogeneity of the fluidic distribution and of the electrical contacts within the stack. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Vibrio sp., ubiquitous in the aquatic ecosystem, are bacteria of interest because of their involvement in human health, causing gastroenteritis after ingestion of seafood, as well as their role in vibriosis leading to severe losses in aquaculture production. Their ability to enter a viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state under stressful environmental conditions may lead to underestimation of the Vibrio population by traditional microbiological enumeration methods. As a result, using molecular methods in combination with EMA or PMA allows the detection of viable (VBNC and culturable viable) cells. In this study, the impact of the EMA and PMA was tested at different concentrations on the viability of several Vibrio species. We compared the toxicity of these two DNAbinding dyes to determine the best pretreatment to use with qPCR to discriminate between viable and dead Vibrio cells. Our results showed that EMA displayed lethal effects for each strain of V. cholerae and V. vulnificus tested. In contrast, the concentrations of PMA tested had no toxic effect on the viability of Vibrio cells studied. These results may help to achieve optimal PMA-qPCR methods to detect viable Vibrio sp. cells in food and environmental samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
