Abstract

Kathleen Gill is correct in her criticism of the ontological distinction between events and processes, but she mistakenly equates that distinction with Aristotle's distinction between 'kinesis' and 'energeia.' The ontological claim she criticizes was speculative, whereas the main point of the earlier work she refers to was to show the importance of verb aspect in issues of tense logic and the analysis of verb types, and that point has been accepted. The Aristotelian term 'energeia' refers to a state, not a process.
