Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA) is a progressive degenerative disease of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The unclear etiology and mechanisms of TMJ OA bring great difficulties to early diagnosis and effective treatment, causing enormous burdens to patients’ life and social economics. In this narrative review, we summarized the main pathological changes of TMJ OA, including inflammatory responses, degeneration of extracellular matrix (ECM), abnormal cell biological behaviors (apoptosis, autophagy, and differentiation) in TMJ tissue, and aberrant angiogenesis. All pathological features are closely linked to each other, forming a vicious cycle in the process of TMJ OA, which results in prolonged disease duration and makes it difficult to cure. Various molecules and signaling pathways are involved in TMJ OA pathogenesis, including nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERKs) and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β signaling pathways et al. One molecule or pathway can contribute to several pathological changes, and the crosstalk between different molecules and pathways can further lead to a complicated condition TMJ OA. TMJ OA has miscellaneous etiology, complex clinical status, depressed treatment results, and poor prognosis. Therefore, novel in-vivo and in-vitro models, novel medicine, materials, and approaches for therapeutic procedures might be helpful for further investigation of TMJ OA. Furthermore, the role of genetic factors in TMJ OA needs to be elucidated to establish more reasonable and effective clinical strategies for diagnosing and treating TMJ OA.

This study takes the panel data of China’s A-share listed companies from 2016 to 2020 as the sample to empirically analyze the impact of environmental uncertainty on the degree of corporate financialization, and the moderating role of executive incentive in affecting the relationship between environmental uncertainty and the degree of corporate financialization. It is found that the rise of environmental uncertainty aggravates the degree of enterprise financialization. Executive equity incentives alleviate the degree of corporate financialization and significantly hedge the effect of environmental uncertainty on the degree of corporate financialization. In contrast, executive compensation incentives exacerbate the degree of corporate financialization and do not observably hedge the effect of environmental uncertainty on the degree of corporate financialization. Subgroup regressions indicate that the moderating effect of equity incentives on the relationship between environmental uncertainty and corporate financialization mainly occurs in non-state-owned firms. The findings of this study provide a theoretical base for firms to develop reasonable and practical incentive mechanisms to cope with environmental uncertainty.

Abstract Background Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) after distal gastrectomy impacts patients’ nutritional status and quality of life. The current treatments of DGE seem unsatisfactory or need invasive interventions. It is unknown whether transcutaneous electroacupuncture (TEA) is effective in treating DGE. Methods A total of 90 eligible participants who underwent distal gastrectomy will be randomly allocated to either the TEA group (n = 60) or the sham transcutaneous electroacupuncture (sham-TEA) group (n = 30). Each participant will receive TEA on the bilateral acupoints of Zusanli (ST36) and Neiguan (PC6) for 4 weeks. The primary outcomes will be the residual rates of radioactivity in the stomach by gastric scintigraphy and total response rates. The secondary outcomes will be endoscopic features, autonomic function, nutritional and psychological status, serum examination, and quality of life (QoL). The adverse events will also be reported. The patients will be followed up 1 year after the treatment. Discussion The findings of this randomized trial will provide high-quality evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of long-term TEA for treating DGE after distal gastrectomy. Abstract Aim To investigate the effect of implementing a model for continuous quality improvement in the nutritional management of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with radiotherapy. Design methods In the intervention group (n = 77), a model for the continuous quality improvement of efforts at nutrition management was implemented. These efforts included the development of a new process for nutrition management, a system to provide nutritional support and the use of targeted intervention plans to improve nutrition. The time from diagnosis to the administration of radiation therapy, the severity of oral mucositis and dietary factors were recorded and considered in the development of targeted nutrition intervention and nutrition education. The control group (n = 71) followed the original procedures for nutrition management. Results The study found that the CQI model can decrease the severity of oral mucositis caused by radiation and improve nutritional status in affected patients.

Given the influence of controlling shareholders on the company, it is important to analyze how independent directors can protect minority shareholders’ interests using the information and resources obtained from social networks. This paper studies the impact of director networks on controlling shareholders’ tunneling behavior in China over the period 2002–2020. Using social network analysis, this paper finds that controlling shareholders’ appropriation to minority shareholders is mitigated in companies with well-connected independent directors. These results remain consistent after a series of robustness and endogeneity tests. This study also reveals that internal controls play a mediating role between director networks and tunneling behavior. In addition, the study indicates that the restraining effect of director networks on controlling shareholders’ tunneling behavior is more pronounced in companies with weaker audit monitoring and poorer transparency. In conclusion, the results reveal that well-connected independent directors play an important role in protecting minority shareholders’ interests.

Abstract. Background:. The enteric reconstruction procedure of pancreatic stump after pancreaticoduodenectomy remains to be the critical factor influencing the mortality and morbidity. No widely accepted surgical procedure for the pancreaticojejunostomy has been erected yet. We have developed a new technique of pancreaticojejunostomy named “shark mouth pancreaticojejunostomy.” The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of “shark mouth pancreaticojejunostomy.” Methods:. This is a prospective single-arm observational study to evaluate the clinical efficacy of “shark mouth pancreaticojejunostomy.” Patients with diseases, in whom a pancreaticoduodenectomy is indicated, would be recruited from Peking University Third Hospital. The hypothesis to be tested is that a “shark mouth pancreaticojejunostomy” will reduce fistula rate from around 20% to less than 10%. A sample size of 120 patients will be needed. The primary endpoint is the incidence rate of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). The secondary endpoints of the study are anastomosis time, postoperative hospital stay, and morbidities besides the POPF such as the hemorrhage. Enrolled patients will undergo pancreaticoduodenectomy and be followed up for 3 months. The relevant data will be monitored and recorded. Conclusions:. The current trial will explore the therapeutic value of the newly raised pancreaticojejunostomy procedure as the “shark mouth pancreaticojejunostomy.” Its theoretical base and pragmatic feature will promise high external validity. IntroductionMacrophage phenotype switch plays a vital role in the progression of malignancies. We aimed to build a prognostic signature by exploring the expression pattern of macrophage phenotypic switch related genes (MRGs) in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)—pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx)-Pancreas, and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases.MethodsWe identified the differentially expressed genes between the PAAD and normal tissues. We used single factor Cox proportional risk regression analysis, Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) analysis, and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analysis to establish the prognosis risk score by the MRGs. The relationships between the risk score and immune landscape, “key driver” mutations and clinicopathological factors were also analyzed. Gene-set enrichment analysis (GSEA) analysis was also performed.ResultsWe detected 198 differentially expressed MRGs. The risk score was constructed based on 9 genes (KIF23, BIN1, LAPTM4A, ERAP2, ATP8B2, FAM118A, RGS16, ELMO1, RAPGEFL1). The median overall survival time of patients in the low-risk group was significantly longer than that of patients in the high-risk group (P < 0.001). The prognostic value of the risk score was validated in GSE62452 dataset. The prognostic performance of nomogram based on risk score was superior to that of TNM stage. And GSEA analysis also showed that the risk score was closely related with P53 signaling pathway, pancreatic cancer and T cell receptor signaling pathway. qRT-PCR assay showed that the expressions of the 9 MRGs in PDAC cell lines were higher than those in human pancreatic ductal epithelium cell line.ConclusionsThe nine gene risk score could be used as an independent prognostic index for PAAD patients. Further studies validating the prognostic value of the risk score are warranted.
