A 150‐days study was conducted on the continuous exposure of magnetized water at 0.00, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 Tesla (T) on quadruplicate treatments of Jade Perch Scortum barcoo juveniles in a recirculating system. Each replicate consisted of 18 fish with an average weight of 7.52 g over all treatments. The feeding efficiencies, growth, whole‐body proximate plasma parameters, survival were measured and liver histopathology was observed. Our results show no significant improvement in water quality parameters, specific growth rate and body weight gain in this study. However, the best feed conversion ratio was recorded in fish exposed to 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 T, which are significantly better than the control 0.00 T. Though survival was unaffected but plasma biochemistry and liver histopathology were affected even within the treatment. No liver, plasma or blood abnormalities were detected in fish exposed to 0.10 T and the control 0.00 T. But, one out of four livers from fish in the 0.15 T treatment showed a localized inflammatory response. These changes increased in the liver of fish exposed to 0.20 T, high AST and necrosis in this group is evidence of the liver cells damaged or been at risk. A significantly higher crude protein and lipid were noticed in the exposed fish compared with the control, 0.15 T had the highest crude protein and lipid while the control has the lowest. Based on the overall findings, on growth performance and looking at other factors like absence of any physiological disorder 0.10 T can be used as an effective and affordable technique improve the feeding efficiencies of Jade Perch.

A 70-day study was conductedto determine the effects of continuous exposure of magnetized water on red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.). Base on the principle of developing a suitable aquaculture system that will fit the present climate and environmental challenges to enhance breeding and production in aquaculture. Against the backdrop of issues connected to water quality in recirculating aquaculture system which has negative impact on the fish comfort, feeding rate and blood biochemistry, this may later affect its growth performance and general wellbeing. Although, the rate of waste disintegration and the bacteria species present in the filter system determine the physicochemical parameters of the treated water, which further affect the biological characteristics of the fish. This study intends to reveal the effect of biological filtration media (wood coal, rice hulls and wheat hay) on water properties and its further effects on growth performance, plasma biochemistry, liver and gills histopathology of common carp in RAS. After the acclimation interval, 24 tanks were stocked with 8 fish average initial weight of 15.74 g. However, treatments were assigned to each tank at random sampling to make four treatments. The results showed a significant effect on Common carp growth and body biomass, for those with filter media compared to the control. Though, a better growth performance of Common carp culture in water exposed to wheat hay and rice hulls were recorded at significant level with lower FCR. Hence improvement in fish productivity was observed in the treatments compared to the control. Moreover, there are significant changes on cell counts, and plasma biochemistry parameters. In synopsis, the study reveals the benefits in using additional media such as wheat hay and rice hulls as a biological filter media to improve water quality and growth performance of common carp in aquaculture. The use of this new media should be encourage since the installation of this biological filter media is simple, affordable and can be retrofitted into existing systems, to increase water management and aquaculture productivity.

Mutual Information (MI) is an information theory concept often used in the recent time as a criterion for feature selection methods. This is due to its ability to capture both linear and non-linear dependency relationships between two variables. In theory, mutual information is formulated based on probability density functions (pdfs) or entropies of the two variables. In most machine learning applications, mutual information estimation is formulated for classification problems (that is data with labeled output). This study investigates the use of mutual information estimation as a feature selection criterion for regression tasks and introduces enhancement in selecting optimal feature subset based on previous works. Specifically, while focusing on regression tasks, it builds on the previous work in which a scientifically sound stopping criteria for feature selection greedy algorithms was proposed. Four real-world regression datasets were used in this study, three of the datasets are public obtained from UCI machine learning repository and the remaining one is a private well log dataset. Two Machine learning models namely multiple regression and artificial neural networks (ANN) were used to test the performance of IFSMIR. The results obtained has proved the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Dynamic branch prediction is a hardware technique used to speculate the direction of control branches. Inaccurate prediction will make all speculative works useless while accurate prediction will significantly improve microprocessors performance. In this work, we have shown that Genetic Algorithm (GA) can be used to select (near) optimal parameters for branch predictors in most cases. The GA-enhanced predictors take time to find suitable parameters, but once the values of these parameters are determined, the GA-enhanced predictors take the same time to execute as the basic predictors with increased accuracy.

The recent urbanization process is increasingly rapid and unplanned. With the current projection that seven out of ten people worldwide will be living in the cities by the year 2050, with the majority of the growth occurring in cities of the developing countries, information technology (IT) can be used to positively drive the urbanization process. This chapter provides an integrative framework for which various IT trends can be harnessed to crowdfunding urbanization process by focusing on the use of mobile and other handheld devices. Existing use of mobile phone in developing countries focus on e-education, e-commerce, and social media technologies. However, there is little evidence that researchers have analyzed the role of IT in crowdfunding. Consequently, this chapter develops a framework on how the capabilities of mobile devices can be harnessed for crowdfunding urbanization process in the developing countries.

This chapter seeks to fill a gap in the regional analysis of online crowdfunding platforms and projects by examining selected platforms in Africa and in the Middle East. The authors considered the quantity and quality of the actors: fundraisers, funders, and other stakeholders; analyzed characteristics, quality, fees, and general value for money; and evaluated the capacity of the platforms in terms of system interface, projects, and customer crowds aiming to enhance their overall capacity to become nodes of local and regional crowdfunding activities. These are connected to other district and urban centers that would serve as a springboard to organize and network with overseas centers for the growth and development of the regional centers.

Just imagine the cost and havoc if a giant telecommunications company is shut down for an hour or day as a result of devices damage or a petrochemical plant catches fires due to lightning strike. Hence the needs to protect power apparatus from overvoltage surge are imperative. In this study an adaptive risk analysis & management (ARAM) based on artificial neural networks is proposed to analyze and proactively control the overvoltage at power substation due to lightning strike.

Anonymity systems try to conceal the relationship between the communicating entities in network communication. Popular systems, such as Tor and JAP, achieve anonymity by forwarding the traffic through a sequence of relays. In particular, Tor protocol constructs a circuit of typically 3 relays such as no single relay knows both the source and destination of the traffic. A known attack on Tor consists in injecting a set of compromised relays and wait until a Tor client picks two of them as entry (first) and exit (last) relays. With the currently large number of relays, this attack is not scalable anymore. In this paper, we take advantage of the presence of unpopular ports in Tor network to significantly increase the scalability of the attack: instead of injecting typical Tor relays (with the default exit policy), we inject only relays allowing unpopular ports. Since only a small fraction of Tor relays allow unpopular ports, the compromised relays will outnumber the valid ones. We show how Tor traffic can be redirected through unpopular ports. The experimental analysis shows that by injecting a relatively small number of compromised relays (30 pairs of relays) allowing a certain unpopular port, more than 50% of constructed circuits are compromised.
