Abstract This research presents a novel framework for distinguishing between actual and non-suicidal ideation in social media interactions using an ensemble technique. The prompt identification of sentiments on social networking platforms is crucial for timely intervention serving as a key tactic in suicide prevention efforts. However, conventional AI models often mask their decision-making processes primarily designed for classification purposes. Our methodology, along with an updated ensemble method, bridges the gap between Explainable AI and leverages a variety of machine learning algorithms to improve predictive accuracy. By leveraging Explainable AI’s interpretability to analyze the features, the model elucidates the reasoning behind its classifications leading to a comprehension of hidden patterns associated with suicidal ideations. Our system is compared to cutting-edge methods on several social media datasets using experimental evaluations, demonstrating that it is superior, since it detects suicidal content more accurately than others. Consequently, this study presents a more reliable and interpretable strategy (F1-score for suicidal = 95.5% and Non-Suicidal = 99%), for monitoring and intervening in suicide-related online discussions.

Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) has emerged as a serious global health concern that can lead to far-reaching consequences, including skeletal issues and long-term illness. Classical diagnostic approaches, although effective, often include invasive techniques and lacks to leverage the massive amount of healthcare data. There is an increasing demand for noninvasive prediction approaches for determining the severity of VDD. This work proposes a novel approach to detect VDD levels by combining deep learning techniques with evolutionary computing (EC). Specifically, we employ a hybrid deep learning model that includes convolutional neural networks (CNN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks to predict VDD data effectively. To improve the models effectiveness and guarantee the optimal choice of the features and hyper-parameters, we incorporate evolutionary computing methods, particularly genetic algorithms (GA). The proposed method has been proven effective through a comprehensive assessment on a benchmark dataset, with 97% accuracy, 96% precision, 97% recall, and 96% F1-score. Our approach yielded improved performance, when compared to earlier methods. This research not only push forward predictive healthcare models but also shows the potential of merging deep learning with evolutionary computing to address intricate health-care issues.

A serious eye condition called cataracts can cause blindness. Early and accurate cataract detection is the most effective method for reducing risk and averting blindness. The optic nerve head is harmed by the neurodegenerative condition known as glaucoma. Machine learning and deep learning systems for glaucoma and cataract detection have recently received much attention in research. The automatic detection of these diseases also depends on deep learning transfer learning platforms like VeggNet, ResNet, and MobilNet. The authors proposed MobileNetV1 and MobileNetV2 based on an optimized architecture building lightweight deep neural networks using depth-wise separable convolutions. The experiments used publicly available data sets with both cataract & normal and glaucoma & normal images, and the results showed that the proposed model had the highest accuracy compared to the other models.

Abstract Detection of cyber‐threats in the smart grid Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is still remains one of the complex and essential processes need to be highly concentrated in present times. Typically, the SCADA is more prone to the security issues due to their environmental problems and vulnerabilities. Therefore, the proposed work intends to design a new detection approach by integrating the optimization and classification models for smart grid SCADA security. In this framework, the min‐max normalization is performed at first for noise removal and attributes arrangement. Here, the correlation estimation mechanism is mainly deployed to reduce the dimensionality of features by choosing the relevant features used for attack prediction. Moreover, the optimal features are selected by using the optimal solution provided by the Holistic Harris Hawks Optimization (H3O). Finally, the Perceptron Stochastic Neural Network (PSNN) is utilized to categorize the normal and attacking data flow in the network with minimal processing time and complexity. By using the combination of proposed H3O‐PSNN technique, the detection accuracy is improved up to 99% for all datasets used in this study, and also other measures such as precision to 99.2%, recall to 99%, f1‐score to 99.2% increased, when compared to the standard techniques.

Abstract Customer churn, a phenomenon that causes large financial losses when customers leave a business, makes it difficult for modern organizations to retain customers. When dissatisfied customers find their present company's services inadequate, they frequently migrate to another service provider. Machine learning and deep learning (ML/DL) approaches have already been used to successfully identify customer churn. In some circumstances, however, ML/DL-based algorithms lacks in delivering promising results for detecting client churn. Previous research on estimating customer churn revealed unexpected forecasts when utilizing machine learning classifiers and traditional feature encoding methodologies. Deep neural networks were also used in these efforts to extract features without taking into account the sequence information. In view of these issues, the current study provides an effective method for predicting customer churn based on a hybrid deep learning model termed BiLSTM-CNN. The goal is to effectively estimate customer churn using benchmark data and increase the churn prediction process's accuracy. The experimental results show that when trained, tested, and validated on the benchmark dataset, the proposed BiLSTM-CNN model attained a remarkable accuracy of 81%.

The detection of natural images, such as glaciers and mountains, holds practical applications in transportation automation and outdoor activities. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been widely employed for image recognition and classification tasks. While previous studies have focused on fruits, land sliding, and medical images, there is a need for further research on the detection of natural images, particularly glaciers and mountains. To address the limitations of traditional CNNs, such as vanishing gradients and the need for many layers, the proposed work introduces a novel model called DenseHillNet. The model utilizes a DenseHillNet architecture, a type of CNN with densely connected layers, to accurately classify images as glaciers or mountains. The model contributes to the development of automation technologies in transportation and outdoor activities. The dataset used in this study comprises 3,096 images of each of the “glacier” and “mountain” categories. Rigorous methodology was employed for dataset preparation and model training, ensuring the validity of the results. A comparison with a previous work revealed that the proposed DenseHillNet model, trained on both glacier and mountain images, achieved higher accuracy (86%) compared to a CNN model that only utilized glacier images (72%). Modern-day digitalization has a profound impact on business and society, revolutionizing logistics. Supply chain digitalization improves transparency, speed, and cost-effectiveness, increasing tech adoption—transportation benefits from IoT-driven shipment tracking and web data storage. However, cyber threats target IoT data by exploiting cyber vulnerabilities. Although ML/DL approaches have showed potential in finding IoT vulnerabilities, the difficulty of selecting appropriate features remains. Existing research has produced surprising outcomes, and deep neural networks have been utilised to extract characteristics without taking sequence information into account. To address this, the paper presents a unique approach for accurate IoT vulnerability identification that combines deep learning and better feature selection. On the BoT-IoT dataset, the LSTM + CNN model achieved 95.73 % accuracy. This approach has the ability to successfully anticipate IoT based vulnerabilities by leveraging benchmark data, selecting relevant features, and enhancing overall system performance.

Background/introduction: Concept-level sentiment analysis deals with the extraction and classification of concepts and features from user reviews expressed online about products and other entities like political leaders, government policies, and others. The prior studies on concept-level sentiment analysis have used a limited set of linguistic rules for extracting concepts and their associated features. Furthermore, the ontological relations used in the early works for performing concept-level sentiment analysis need enhancement in terms of the extended set of features concepts and ontological relations. Methods: This work aims at addressing the aforementioned issues and tries to bridge the literature gap by proposing an extended set of linguistic rules for concept-feature pair extraction along with enhanced set ontological relations. Additionally, a supervised a machine learning technique is implemented for performing concept-level sentiment analysis. Results and conclusions: Experimental results depict the effectiveness of the proposed system in terms of improved efficiency (P: 88%, R: 88%, F-score: 88%, and A: 87.5%).

Abstract In the current era of social media, different platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have frequently been used by leaders and the followers of political parties to participate in political events, campaigns, and elections. The acquisition, analysis, and presentation of such content have received considerable attention from opinion‐mining researchers. For this purpose, different supervised and unsupervised techniques have been used. However, they have produced less efficient results, which need to be improved by incorporating additional classifiers with the extended data sets. The authors investigate different supervised machine learning classifiers for classifying the political affiliations of users. For this purpose, a data set of political reviews is acquired from Twitter and annotated with different polarity classes. After pre‐processing, different machine learning classifiers like K‐nearest neighbor, naïve Bayes, support vector machine, extreme gradient boosting, and others, are applied. Experimental results illustrate that support vector machine and extreme gradient boosting have shown promising results for predicting political affiliations.

Background/introduction: The dawn of the internet opened the doors to the easy and widespread sharing of information on subject matters such as products, services, events and political opinions. While the volume of studies conducted on sentiment analysis is rapidly expanding, these studies mostly address English language concerns. The primary goal of this study is to present state-of-art survey for identifying the progress and shortcomings saddling Urdu sentiment analysis and propose rectifications. Methods: We described the advancements made thus far in this area by categorising the studies along three dimensions, namely: text pre-processing lexical resources and sentiment classification. These pre-processing operations include word segmentation, text cleaning, spell checking and part-of-speech tagging. An evaluation of sophisticated lexical resources including corpuses and lexicons was carried out, and investigations were conducted on sentiment analysis constructs such as opinion words, modifiers, negations. Results and conclusions: Performance is reported for each of the reviewed study. Based on experimental results and proposals forwarded through this paper provides the groundwork for further studies on Urdu sentiment analysis.

Citrus fruit diseases are the major cause of extreme citrus fruit yield declines. As a result, designing an automated detection system for citrus plant diseases is important. Deep learning methods have recently obtained promising results in a number of artificial intelligence issues, leading us to apply them to the challenge of recognizing citrus fruit and leaf diseases. In this paper, an integrated approach is used to suggest a convolutional neural networks (CNNs) model. The proposed CNN model is intended to differentiate healthy fruits and leaves from fruits/leaves with common citrus diseases such as black spot, canker, scab, greening, and Melanose. The proposed CNN model extracts complementary discriminative features by integrating multiple layers. The CNN model was checked against many state-of-the-art deep learning models on the Citrus and PlantVillage datasets. According to the experimental results, the CNN Model outperforms the competitors in a variety of measurement metrics. The CNN Model has a test accuracy of 94.55 percent, making it a valuable decision support tool for farmers looking to classify citrus fruit/leaf diseases.

Recently, Cognitive-based Sentiment Analysis with emphasis on automatic detection of user behaviour, such as personality traits, based on online social media text has gained a lot of attention. However, most of the existing works are based on conventional techniques, which are not sufficient to get promising results. In this research work, we propose a hybrid Deep Learning-based model, namely Convolutional Neural Network concatenated with Long Short-Term Memory, to show the effectiveness of the proposed model for 8 important personality traits (Introversion-Extroversion, Intuition-Sensing, Thinking-Feeling, Judging-Perceiving). We implemented our experimental evaluations on the benchmark dataset to accomplish the personality trait classification task. Evaluations of the datasets have shown better results, which demonstrates that the proposed model can effectively classify the user’s personality traits as compared to the state-of-the-art techniques. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness of our approach through statistical analysis. With the knowledge obtained from this research, organizations are capable of making their decisions regarding the recruitment of personals in an efficient way. Moreover, they can implement the information obtained from this research as best practices for the selection, management, and optimization of their policies, services, and products.

Background and ObjectiveViral hepatitis is a major public health concern on a global scale. It predominantly affects the world's least developed countries. The most endemic regions are resource constrained, with a low human development index. Chronic hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, cancer and eventually death. Early diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis infection can help to reduce disease burden and transmission to those at risk of infection or reinfection. Screening is critical for meeting the WHO's 2030 targets. Consequently, automated systems for the reliable prediction of hepatitis illness. When applied to the prediction of hepatitis using imbalanced datasets from testing, machine learning (ML) classifiers and known methodologies for encoding categorical data have demonstrated a wide range of unexpected results. Early research also made use of an artificial neural network to identify features without first gaining a thorough understanding of the sequence data.MethodsTo help in accurate binary classification of diagnosis (survivability or mortality) in patients with severe hepatitis, this paper suggests a deep learning-based decision support system (DSS) that makes use of bidirectional long/short-term memory (BiLSTM). Balanced data was utilized to predict hepatitis using the BiLSTM model.ResultsIn contrast to previous investigations, the trial results of this suggested model were encouraging: 95.08% accuracy, 94% precision, 93% recall, and a 93% F1-score.ConclusionsIn the field of hepatitis detection, the use of a BiLSTM model for classification is better than current methods by a significant margin in terms of improved accuracy.

Deep neural networks have made tremendous strides in the categorization of facial photos in the last several years. Due to the complexity of features, the enormous size of the picture/frame, and the severe inhomogeneity of image data, efficient face image classification using deep convolutional neural networks remains a challenge. Therefore, as data volumes continue to grow, the effective categorization of face photos in a mobile context utilizing advanced deep learning techniques is becoming increasingly important. In the recent past, some Deep Learning (DL) approaches for learning to identify face images have been designed; many of them use convolutional neural networks (CNNs). To address the problem of face mask recognition in facial images, we propose to use a Depthwise Separable Convolution Neural Network based on MobileNet (DWS-based MobileNet). The proposed network utilizes depth-wise separable convolution layers instead of 2D convolution layers. With limited datasets, the DWS-based MobileNet performs exceptionally well. DWS-based MobileNet decreases the number of trainable parameters while enhancing learning performance by adopting a lightweight network. Our technique outperformed the existing state of the art when tested on benchmark datasets. When compared to Full Convolution MobileNet and baseline methods, the results of this study reveal that adopting Depthwise Separable Convolution-based MobileNet significantly improves performance (Acc. = 93.14, Pre. = 92, recall = 92, F-score = 92).

Emotion-based sentimental analysis has recently received a lot of interest, with an emphasis on automated identification of user behavior, such as emotional expressions, based on online social media texts. However, the majority of the prior attempts are based on traditional procedures that are insufficient to provide promising outcomes. In this study, we categorize emotional sentiments by recognizing them in the text. For that purpose, we present a deep learning model, bidirectional long-term short-term memory (BiLSMT), for emotion recognition that takes into account five main emotions (Joy, Sadness, Fear, Shame, Guilt). We use our experimental assessments on the emotion dataset to accomplish the emotion categorization job. The datasets were evaluated and the findings revealed that, when compared to state-of-the-art methodologies, the proposed model can successfully categorize user emotions into several classifications. Finally, we assess the efficacy of our strategy using statistical analysis. This research’s findings help firms to apply best practices in the selection, management, and optimization of policies, services, and product information.

The classification of emotional states from poetry or formal text has received less attention by the experts of computational intelligence in recent times as compared to informal textual content like SMS, email, chat, and online user reviews. In this study, an emotional state classification system for poetry text is proposed using the latest and cutting edge technology of Artificial Intelligence, called Deep Learning. For this purpose, an attention-based C-BiLSTM model is implemented on the poetry corpus. The proposed approach classifies the text of poetry into different emotional states, like love, joy, hope, sadness, anger, etc. Different experiments are conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed system as compared to other state-of-art methods as well as machine learning and deep learning methods. Experimental results depict that the proposed model outperformed the baselines studies with 88% accuracy. Furthermore, the analysis of the statistical experiment also validates the performance of the proposed approach.

In recent years, the boom in social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter has brought people together for the sharing of opinions, sentiments, emotions, and experiences about products, events, politics, and other topics. In particular, sentiment-based applications are growing in popularity among individuals and businesses for the making of purchase decisions. Fuzzy-based sentiment analysis aims at classifying customer sentiment at a fine-grained level. This study deals with the development of a fuzzy-based sentiment analysis by extending fuzzy hedges and rule-sets for a more efficient classification of customer sentiment and satisfaction. Prior studies have used a limited number of linguistic hedges and polarity classes in their rule-sets, resulting in the degraded efficiency of their fuzzy-based sentiment analysis systems. The proposed analysis of the current study classifies customer reviews using fuzzy linguistic hedges and an extended rule-set with seven sentiment analysis classes, namely extremely positive, very positive, positive, neutral, negative, very negative, and extremely negative. Then, a fuzzy logic system is applied to measure customer satisfaction at a fine-grained level. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed analysis has an improved performance over the baseline works.

In recent times, organisations in a variety of businesses, such as healthcare, education, and others, have been using the Internet of Things (IoT) to produce more competent and improved services. The widespread use of IoT devices makes our lives easier. On the other hand, the IoT devices that we use suffer vulnerabilities that may impact our lives. These unsafe devices accelerate and ease cybersecurity attacks, specifically when using a botnet. Moreover, restrictions on IoT device resources, such as limitations in power consumption and the central processing unit and memory, intensify this issue because they limit the security techniques that can be used to protect IoT devices. Fortunately, botnets go through different stages before they can start attacks, and they can be detected in the early stage. This research paper proposes a framework focusing on detecting an IoT botnet in the early stage. An empirical experiment was conducted to investigate the behaviour of the early stage of the botnet, and then a baseline machine learning model was implemented for early detection. Furthermore, the authors developed an effective detection method, namely, Cross CNN_LSTM, to detect the IoT botnet based on using fusion deep learning models of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM). According to the conducted experiments, the results show that the suggested model is accurate and outperforms some of the state-of-the-art methods, and it achieves 99.7 accuracy. Finally, the authors developed a kill chain model to prevent IoT botnet attacks in the early stage.

As the amount of historical data available in the legal arena has grown over time, industry specialists are driven to gather, compile, and analyze this data in order to forecast court case rulings. However, predicting and justifying court rulings while using judicial facts is no easy task. Currently, previous research on forecasting court outcomes using small experimental datasets yielded a number of unanticipated predictions utilizing machine learning (ML) models and conventional methodologies for categorical feature encoding. The current work proposes forecasting court judgments using a hybrid neural network model, namely a long short-term memory (LSTM) network with a CNN, in order to effectively forecast court rulings using historic judicial datasets. By prioritizing and choosing features that scored the highest in the provided legal data set, only the most pertinent features were picked. After that, the LSTM+CNN model was utilized to forecast lawsuit verdicts. In contrast to previous related experiments, this composite model’s testing results were promising, showing 92.05 percent accuracy, 93 percent precision, 94 percent recall, and a 93 percent F1-score.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks have now become a serious risk to the integrity and confidentiality of computer networks and systems, which are essential assets in today’s world. Detecting DDoS attacks is a difficult task that must be accomplished before any mitigation strategies can be used. The identification of DDoS attacks has already been successfully implemented using machine learning/deep learning (ML/DL). However, due to an inherent limitation of ML/DL frameworks—so-called optimal feature selection—complete accomplishment is likewise out of reach. This is a case in which a machine learning/deep learning-based system does not produce promising results for identifying DDoS attacks. At the moment, existing research on forecasting DDoS attacks has yielded a variety of unexpected predictions utilising machine learning (ML) classifiers and conventional approaches for feature encoding. These previous efforts also made use of deep neural networks to extract features without having to maintain the track of the sequence information. The current work suggests predicting DDoS attacks using a hybrid deep learning (DL) model, namely a CNN with BiLSTM (bidirectional long/short-term memory), in order to effectively anticipate DDoS attacks using benchmark data. By ranking and choosing features that scored the highest in the provided data set, only the most pertinent features were picked. Experiment findings demonstrate that the proposed CNN-BI-LSTM attained an accuracy of up to 94.52 percent using the data set CIC-DDoS2019 during training, testing, and validation.

Research efforts in the field of sentiment analysis have exponentially increased in the last few years due to its applicability in areas such as online product purchasing, marketing, and reputation management. Social media and online shopping sites have become a rich source of user-generated data. Manufacturing, sales, and marketing organizations are progressively turning their eyes to this source to get worldwide feedback on their activities and products. Millions of sentences in Urdu and Roman Urdu are posted daily on social sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. Disregarding people’s opinions in Urdu and Roman Urdu and considering only resource-rich English language leads to the vital loss of this vast amount of data. Our research focused on collecting research papers related to Urdu and Roman Urdu language and analyzing them in terms of preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification techniques. This paper contains a comprehensive study of research conducted on Roman Urdu and Urdu text for a product review. This study is divided into categories, such as collection of relevant corpora, data preprocessing, feature extraction, classification platforms and approaches, limitations, and future work. The comparison was made based on evaluating different research factors, such as corpus, lexicon, and opinions. Each reviewed paper was evaluated according to some provided benchmarks and categorized accordingly. Based on results obtained and the comparisons made, we suggested some helpful steps in a future study.

These days game AI is one of the focused and active research areas in artificial intelligence because computer games are the best test-beds for testing theoretical ideas in AI before practically applying them in real life world. Similarly, ViZDoom is a game artificial intelligence research platform based on Doom used for visual deep reinforcement learning in 3D game environments such as first-person shooters (FPS). While training, the speed of the learning agent greatly depends on the number of frames the agent is permitted to skip. In this paper, how the frame skipping rate influences the agent’s learning and final performance is proposed, particularly using deep Q-learning, experience replay memory, and the ViZDoom Game AI research platform. The agent is trained and tested on Doom’s basic scenario(s) where the results are compared and found to be 10% better compared to the existing state-of-the-art research work on Doom-based agents. The experiments show that the profitable and optimal frame skipping rate falls in the range of 3 to 11 that provides the best balance between the learning speed and the final performance of the agent which exhibits human-like behavior and outperforms an average human player and inbuilt game agents.

With the rapid increase in social networks and blogs, the social media services are increasingly being used by online communities to share their views and experiences about a particular product, policy and event. Due to economic importance of these reviews, there is growing trend of writing user reviews to promote a product. Nowadays, users prefer online blogs and review sites to purchase products. Therefore, user reviews are considered as an important source of information in Sentiment Analysis (SA) applications for decision making. In this work, we exploit the wealth of user reviews, available through the online forums, to analyze the semantic orientation of words by categorizing them into +ive and -ive classes to identify and classify emoticons, modifiers, general-purpose and domain-specific words expressed in the public's feedback about the products. However, the un-supervised learning approach employed in previous studies is becoming less efficient due to data sparseness, low accuracy due to non-consideration of emoticons, modifiers, and presence of domain specific words, as they may result in inaccurate classification of users' reviews. Lexicon-enhanced sentiment analysis based on Rule-based classification scheme is an alternative approach for improving sentiment classification of users' reviews in online communities. In addition to the sentiment terms used in general purpose sentiment analysis, we integrate emoticons, modifiers and domain specific terms to analyze the reviews posted in online communities. To test the effectiveness of the proposed method, we considered users reviews in three domains. The results obtained from different experiments demonstrate that the proposed method overcomes limitations of previous methods and the performance of the sentiment analysis is improved after considering emoticons, modifiers, negations, and domain specific terms when compared to baseline methods.

The exponential increase in the explosion of Web-based user generated reviews has resulted in the emergence of Opinion Mining (OM) applications for analyzing the users' opinions toward products, services, and policies. The polarity lexicons often play a pivotal role in the OM, indicating the positivity and negativity of a term along with the numeric score. However, the commonly available domain independent lexicons are not an optimal choice for all of the domains within the OM applications. The aforementioned is due to the fact that the polarity of a term changes from one domain to other and such lexicons do not contain the correct polarity of a term for every domain. In this work, we focus on the problem of adapting a domain dependent polarity lexicon from set of labeled user reviews and domain independent lexicon to propose a unified learning framework based on the information theory concepts that can assign the terms with correct polarity (+ive, -ive) scores. The benchmarking on three datasets (car, hotel, and drug reviews) shows that our approach improves the performance of the polarity classification by achieving higher accuracy. Moreover, using the derived domain dependent lexicon changed the polarity of terms, and the experimental results show that our approach is more effective than the base line methods.
