Abstract Background As components of a 24-hour day, sedentary behavior (SB), physical activity (PA), and sleep are all independently linked to cardiovascular health (CVH). However, insufficient understanding of components’ mutual exclusion limits the exploration of the associations between all movement behaviors and health outcomes. The aim of this study was to employ compositional data analysis (CoDA) approach to investigate the associations between 24-hour movement behaviors and overall CVH. Methods Data from 581 participants, including 230 women, were collected from the 2005–2006 wave of the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). This dataset included information on the duration of SB and PA, derived from ActiGraph accelerometers, as well as self-reported sleep duration. The assessment of CVH was conducted in accordance with the criteria outlined in Life’s Simple 7, encompassing the evaluation of both health behaviors and health factors. Compositional linear regression was utilized to examine the cross-sectional associations of 24-hour movement behaviors and each component with CVH score. Furthermore, the study predicted the potential differences in CVH score that would occur by reallocating 10 to 60 min among different movement behaviors. Results A significant association was observed between 24-hour movement behaviors and overall CVH (p 0.05). Conclusions MVPA seems to be as a pivotal determinant for enhancing CVH among general adult population, relative to other movement behaviors. Consequently, optimization of MVPA duration is an essential element in promoting overall health and well-being.

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of acute Pilates and plyometric exercise in a school-based setting on attention and mathematics test performance in high school students. Forty 10th-grade students (21 females and 19 males; age: [15.0 ± 0.5] years, body mass index: [21.4 ± 2.8] kg/m2) participated in this crossover and quasi-experimental study. In week 1, students were familiarized with the d2 test of attention and Pilates and plyometric exercises activities, and body composition measurements were taken. In both weeks 2 and 3, students completed the d2 test of attention and mathematics test with 20 questions following a single session of low-to-moderate-intensity exercise and a classroom-based non-exercise activity, in a non-randomized order. The exercise sessions included 30 mins of plyometric exercises for male students and Pilates exercise for female students, with intensities corresponding to 10–14 on the Borg rating of perceived exertion scale6-20. Compared to the non-exercise activity, a 30-min of Pilates and plyometric exercise resulted in significant improvements in attention score (mean difference [Δ] ​= ​54.5 score; p ​< 0.001; Cohen's effect sizes [d] ​= ​1.26) and concentration performance (Δ ​= ​20.7 score; p ​= ​0.003; d ​= ​0.51). The students scored significantly higher on the mathematics test after participating in the exercise sessions compared to the non-exercise condition (Δ% ​= ​11.7; p ​ ​0.05). These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of acute light-to-moderate-intensity Pilates and plyometric exercises in school-based settings for improving attention and mathematics performance in adolescents.

With rapid progress in power conversion efficiencies, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have shown great potential as next-generation low-cost, efficient solar cell devices. Ultra-thin pure and Brdoped MoTe2 monolayer materials are promising candidates for alternative electron transport material in perovskite solar cell applications. The electronic, and optical properties of these materials were calculated using projector augmented plane wave (PAW) based on popular density-functional theory (DFT). These properties were calculated using Pardew-BurkeErnzerhof generalized gradient approximation (PBE-GGA). The band structure for the considered materials has been determined using full relativistic spin-orbital coupling (SOC). Our results indicate that pure and Br-doped 2D-MoTe2 were n-type semiconductors and had direct band gap energies of 1.01 and 1.21 eV respectively. The optical properties of the materials such as relative dielectric constant, transmission and reflectivity are presented. Using these properties, the 1-D solar cell capacitance simulator (SCAPS-1D) software was used to design solar cells based on monolayer pure and Br-doped MoTe2 as an electron transport layer (ETL). The maximum efficiencies of these cells are 13.121%, and 24.016% with VOC of 1.067 V and 1.186 V, JSC of 21.678 mA/cm2 and 25.251 mA/cm2, and FF of 56.720% and 80.139% were realized with the pure and Br-doped ETLs respectively. The performance of our solar cells is comparable to traditional Si-based solar cells. The results show how monolayer pure and Br-doped MoTe2 can serve as a suitable ETL material for perovskite solar cells.

IntroductionAtopic dermatitis (AD) is a type of chronic inflammatory disorder that affects children.AimTo investigate whether hydrocortisone or tacrolimus could be more effective for treating AD in children.Patients and methodsThis clinical randomized investigation included 100 children with AD who met the eligibility criteria. AD patients were recruited from Tanta University’s Dermatology Department and divided into two groups (n = 50)., For four months, group 1 (the hydrocortisone group) received topical hydrocortisone cream. Group 2 received topical tacrolimus for four months. A dermatologist evaluated the patients at the start and four months after the treatment had been initiated to measure serum concentrations of neutrophil chemoattractant growth-related oncogene-α (GRO-α), interferon gamma induced protein 10 (IP-10), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), vascular adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1). All patients were examined using the modified Eczema Area and Severity Index (mEASI) score.ResultsTacrolimus group showed a significant reduction in serum levels of all measured biomarkers (p < 0.05) when compared to its baseline and when compared to the hydrocortisone group. Both groups displayed a significant decline in mEASI score in comparison with their baseline values (p < 0.05).ConclusionIn children with AD, tacrolimus reduces inflammatory biomarkers better than hydrocortisone, suggesting its potential as a more effective treatment option.Clinical trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT05607901.

BackgroundNeuroinflammation pathways have been associated with the development of major depressive disorders (MDD). The anti-inflammatory characteristics of statins have been demonstrated to have significance in the pathophysiology of depression.AimTo investigate the mechanistic pathways of high dose atorvastatin in MDD.Patients and methodsThis trial included 60 patients with MDD who met the eligibility requirements. Two groups of patients (n = 30) were recruited by selecting patients from the Psychiatry Department. Group 1 received 20 mg of fluoxetine plus a placebo once daily. Group 2 received fluoxetine and atorvastatin (80 mg) once daily. All patients were assessed by a psychiatrist using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). A HDRS score of ≤7 indicates remission or partial remission [HDRS7]. Response was defined as ≥ 50% drop in the HDRS score. The serum concentrations of nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich-containing family, pyrin domain-containing-3 (NLRP-3), interleukin-6 (IL-6), adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase (AMPK), and signal transducer and activator of transcription factor-3 (STAT-3) were measured.ResultsThe atorvastatin group showed a significant reduction in the levels of all measured markers along with a statistical increase in the levels of AMPK when compared to the fluoxetine group. The atorvastatin group displayed a significant decrease in HDRS when compared to its baseline and the fluoxetine group. The response rate and partial remission were higher in the atorvastatin group than fluoxetine (p = 0.03, and p = 0.005), respectively.ConclusionThese results imply that atorvastatin at high doses may be a promising adjuvant therapy for MDD patients by altering the signaling pathways for AMPK/NLRP3 and IL-6/STAT-3.Clinical Trial Registrationclinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT05792540.

The physical properties of crystalline compounds are highly essential for predicting their applications in various nanodevices. Density functional theory is very useful in that regard. Herein, some physical properties such as structural stability, and electronic, optical and mechanical properties of two-phase bulk WSe2 have been comparatively investigated by first principle calculations. Band structure calculations elucidate that the materials are indirect band gap semiconductors having band gap energy in the range 1-1.5 eV. It was observed that the hexagonal crystal has higher absorption coefficients compared to the trigonal phase. Analysis of elastic constants of the materials carried out using the Born criteria method indicates that all systems are mechanically stable at room temperature. Our findings are in close agreement with the previous experimental and theoretical results, this further suggests that the materials are promising in optoelectronics applications.

The primary goal of kesterite alloying is to allow for fine tweaking of the material's characteristics for advanced device engineering. Additionally, it is seen as a viable solution to inherent kesterite absorber difficulties such as the Cu/Zn disorder or Sn multivalency. The most interesting alloying elements for kesterite are Ag replacing Cu, Cd replacing Zn, and Ge replacing Sn for cationic substitution, as well as Se replacing S for anionic substitution. This research work investigates the effect of alloying CZTS with Silver (Ag) (Cation) and Selenium (Se) (Anion) theoretically using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The compounds were found to exhibit indirect bandgap characteristics, with conduction band minima (CBM) and valence band maxima (VBM) located between the N and gamma points of the Brillouin zone for pure kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 and between the N and A points for alloyed Ag2ZnSnSe4 respectively. The bandgap of around 1.22 eV and 0.78 eV were recorded for the pure and alloyed kesterite materials. From the obtained results, a shrink in bandgap was observed due to the presence of heavy anion (Se) and cation (Ag) alloying at the same time. It was also found that the contribution of different atomic orbitals to the formation of the valence and conduction bands is approximately identical for pure and alloyed materials.

The study of a chemically reacting fluid in a vertical micro-channel limited to an applied transverse magnetic field that has fully developed steady natural convection flow under the impact of internal heat generation or absorption effects is the focus of this research. The governing equations are solved in dimensionless form using the homotopy perturbation method, HPM. Temperature, velocity, volume flow rate, and frictional drag force fundamental flow attributes are investigated as a function of controlling parameters such as heat generating or absorbing parameters, chemical reaction parameter, rarefaction parameter, fluid-wall interaction parameter and wall-ambient temperature difference ratio. The results are thoroughly analyzed and graphically depicted in a variety of plots. It is worth noting that raising the chemical reaction and rarefaction parameters increases fluid flow and volume flow rate, respectively. Furthermore, the action of heat absorption is observed to suppress fluid flow whereas heat generation establishes the opposite condition. Additionally, numerical data was generated and tabulated to compare the findings of this study to those of Jha et al. (2014) when the chemical reactant and heat generating/absorbing parameters were neglected, and an excellent agreement was discovered.

Abstract Background Vector control interventions in sub-Saharan Africa rely on insecticide-treated nets and indoor residual spraying. Insecticide resistance, poor coverage of interventions, poor quality nets and changes in vector behavior threaten the effectiveness of these interventions and, consequently, alternative tools are needed. Mosquitoes die after feeding on humans or animals treated with ivermectin (IVM). Mass drug administration (MDA) with IVM could reduce vector survival and decrease malaria transmission. The entomological impact of MDA of combined IVM and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine was assessed in a community-based, cluster-randomized trial. Methods A cluster-randomized trial was implemented in 2018 and 2019 in 32 villages in the Upper River Region, The Gambia. The with the inhabitants of 16 intervention villages eligible to receive three monthly rounds of MDA at the beginning of the malaria transmission season. Entomological surveillance with light traps and human landing catches (HLC) was carried out during a 7- to 14-day period after each round of MDA, and then monthly until the end of the year. The mosquitocidal effect of IVM was determined by direct membrane feeding assays. Results Of the 15,017 mosquitoes collected during the study period, 99.65% (n = 14,965) were Anopheles gambiae sensu lato (An. gambiae s.l.), comprising Anopheles arabiensis (56.2%), Anopheles coluzzii (24.5%), Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto (An. gembiae s.s.; 16.0%) and Anopheles funestus sensu lato (An. funestus s.l.; 0.35%). No effect of the intervention on vector parity was observed. Vector density determined on light trap collections was significantly lower in the intervention villages in 2019 (adjusted incidence rate ratio: 0.39; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.20, 0.74; P = 0.005) but not in 2018. However, vector density determined in HLC collections was similar in both the intervention and control villages. The entomological inoculation rate was significantly lower in the intervention villages than in the control villages (odds ratio: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.19, 0.70; P = 0·003). Mosquito mortality was significantly higher when blood fed on IVM-treated individuals up to 21 days post-treatment, particularly in adults and individuals with a higher body mass index. Conclusion Mass drug administration with IVM decreased vector density and the entomological inoculation rate while the effect on vector parity was less clear. Survival of mosquitoes fed on blood collected from IVM-treated individuals was significantly lower than that in mosquitoes which fed on controls. The influence of host characteristics on mosquito survivorship indicated that dose optimization could improve IVM efficacy. Future detailed entomological evaluation trials in which IVM is administered as stand-alone intervention may elucidate the contribution of this drug to the observed reduction in transmission. Abstract Malaria remains a major health problem and vector control is an essential approach to decrease its burden, although it is threatened by insecticide resistance. New approaches for vector control are needed. The females of Anopheles gambiae s.l. mate once in their life and in the swarms formed by males. Trapping swarms of Anopheles gambiae s.l. males is a potential new intervention for vector control, alternative to the use of insecticides, as it would disrupt mating . The proof-of-concept pilot study aiming at investigating swarm trapping as a potential vector control intervention, was carried out in 6 villages as in eastern Gambia. Swarms of Anopheles gambiae s.l. were identified and their size, height, and duration determined during the baseline year. Swarm trapping by local volunteers was implemented the following transmission season in 4 villages while the other 2 villages were taken as controls. Entomological outcomes were monitored by Human Landing Catches and Pyrethrum Spray Catches. A cross-sectional survey to determine malaria prevalence was carried out at the peak of the malaria transmission season for two consecutive years. At baseline, 23 swarming sites of Anopheles gambiae s.l. were identified. Before the intervention, mean indoor resting density per house and malaria prevalence were similar between control and intervention villages. Following the intervention, Anopheles gambiae s.l. indoor resting density was 44% lower in intervention than in control villages (adj IRR: 0.0.56; 95% CI 0.47–0.68); the odds of malaria infections were 68% lower in intervention than in control villages (OR: 0.32; 95% CI 0.11–0.97). Swarm trapping seems to be a promising, community-based vector control intervention that could reduce malaria prevalence by reducing vector density. Such results should be further investigated and confirmed by larger cluster-randomized trials.

Background: The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of infirmity and disease. Researchers and clinicians have mainly focused on health outcomes that are physically or laboratory measured. These, however, do not reflect how the affected individual feels and functions in daily life. This study assessed the psychological and stigma profiles of patients attending HIV clinics in a North-central State of Nigeria. Methods: The study design was descriptive cross-sectional. A total of 384 HIV-positive patients who were systematically recruited at 5 public service delivery sites in Ilorin, Kwara State, North-central Nigeria participated in the study. Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 20.0. Level of significance was pre-determined at P value < 0.05 at a confidence level of 95%. Results: Fifty-nine percent of respondents reported being anxious about their condition and 25.5% felt depressed. Eighty-six percent received adherence counselling and 82.3% received psychological care from support groups. In the psychological domain, majority (74.5%) of the respondents had high health-related quality of life (HRQoL). There was a statistically significant association between employment status and psychological domain of HRQoL. As regards stigma, majority experienced high stereotype stigma (73.7%) and 67.2% experienced high stigma as pertains disclosure. Conclusion: Health workers should promote psychological support of HIV patients, for example, in form of support groups and adherence counseling. Efforts by government and corporate bodies should be geared towards employment empowerment of PLWHA which may help improve quality of life.

Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) sessions prescribed on the basis of a maximal value (peak power output, PPO) and a submaximal value (lactate threshold, LT) derived from graded exercise tests (GXTs) in normoxia and hypoxia. Methods: A total of ten males (aged 18–37) volunteered to participate in this study. The experimental protocol consisted of a familiarization procedure, two GXTs under normoxia (FiO2 = 0.209) and two GXTs under normobaric hypoxia (FiO2 = 0.140), and three HIIE sessions performed in a random order. The HIIE sessions included one at hypoxia (HY) and two at normoxia (one matched for the absolute intensity in hypoxia, designated as NA, and one matched for the relative intensity in hypoxia, designated as NR). Results: The data demonstrated that there was significant lower peak oxygen uptake (V̇O2peak), peak heart rate (HRpeak), PPO, and LT derived from GXTs in hypoxia, with higher respiratory exchange ratio (RER), when compared to those from GXTs performed in normoxia (p

Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women worldwide. P2X7 is a transmembrane receptor expressed in breast cancer and activated by the ATP tumor microenvironment, driving cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis via different signaling pathways. The role of the P2X7 receptor, hypoxia, and autophagy in regulating tumor progression is controversial. The multikinase inhibitor regorafenib prevents the activation of numerous kinases involved in angiogenesis, proliferation, and metastasis. The present study aimed to evaluate the modulatory effect of regorafenib on the hypoxia/angiogenesis/P2X7R/autophagy axis on the MCF7 breast cancer cell line and its impact on different signaling pathways involved in breast cancer pathogenesis. Methods: The levels of VEGF, VEGFR, PI3K, NF-κB, HIF-1α, and LC3-II were analyzed using ELISA, and caspase-3 activity was also assessed colorimetrically. Phosphorylated (p)-p38 MAPK and purinergic ligand-gated ion channel 7 (P2X7) receptor protein expression levels were analyzed via Western blotting. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR was used to determine the mRNA expression levels of Beclin 1 (BECN1), LC3-II, and sequestosome 1 (p62). Results: Regorafenib reduced MCF7 cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, regorafenib significantly reduced levels of PI3K, NF-κB, VEGF, VEGFR, P2X7 receptor, and p-p38 MAPK protein expression, and markedly reduced p62 mRNA expression levels. However, regorafenib significantly increased caspase-3 activity, as well as BECN1 and LC3-II mRNA expression levels. Conclusions: Regorafenib was demonstrated to possibly exhibit antitumor activity on the breast cancer cell line via modulation of the P2X7/HIF-1α/VEGF, P2X7/P38, P2X7/ERK/NF-κB, and P2X7/beclin 1 pathways.

The health risk assessment of selected heavy metals in the blood and urine of workers, as well as the sound and air qualities of Alkali Kongo Plaza GSM Village in Lafia Metropolis, Nasarawa State, was conducted. While the heavy metals were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometry, the sound and air qualities were determined using a hand-held integrated sound level meter and multifunctional air detector (model; WP6910). The blood and urine samples were obtained from the handset repairers and sellers in the market and investigated for their heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Mn, Ni, and Cr contents. The air quality status was investigated for particulate matter (PM), total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs), and formaldehyde (HCHO). Before analyzing the heavy metals, the collected samples were treated and then digested using standard procedures. The urine samples showed higher concentrations of Mn, Pb, and Ni, while in the blood samples, there were high concentrations of Mn, Pb, Ni, and Cr. The concentration of Mn in the blood samples ranged from 14.22 to 22.63 µg/dm3 and from 8.30 to 12.20 µg/dm3 in the urine. The concentration of Pb in blood varied between 190.10 and 212.10 µg/dm3, while that of urine varied from 141.90 to 215.00 µg/dm3. The concentration of Cd in blood varied between 1.86 and 1.95 µg/dm3 and from 5.10 to 13.70 µg/dm3 in the urine. The concentration of Cr in blood ranged from 12.75 to 16.44 µg/dm3, while that of urine ranged from 23.00 to 15.20 µg/dm3. On the other hand, Ni concentration in blood ranged from 18.70 to 24.90 µg/dm3, while that of urine ranged from 17.90 to 31.00 µg/dm3. The air quality parameters, PM, TVOCs, HCHO, and noise or sound pollutants indicated higher values than the control and the standard values. From these results, 83% of the workers of the community market stand a high chance of being at risk, especially due to the high concentrations of Mn and Pb. Hence, there are need to monitor the occupational activities of denizens of this commercial center for the proper establishment of levels of the selected parameters in this study and parameters that were not considered.

Abstract Background Approaches to the evaluation of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in premature calves by using lung‐specific epithelial and endothelial biomarkers are needed. Objective To investigate the evaluation of PAH in premature calves with and without respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) by using lung‐specific epithelial and endothelial biomarkers and determine the prognostic value of these markers in premature calves. Animals Fifty premature calves with RDS, 20 non‐RDS premature calves, and 10 healthy term calves. Methods Hypoxia, hypercapnia, and tachypnea were considered criteria for RDS. Arterial blood gases (PaO2, PaCO2, oxygen saturation [SO2], base excess [BE], and serum lactate concentration) were measured to assess hypoxia. Serum concentrations of lung‐specific growth differentiation factor‐15 (GDF‐15), asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), endothelin‐1 (ET‐1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and surfactant protein D (SP‐D) were measured to assess PAH. Results Arterial blood pH, PaO2, SO2, and BE of premature calves with RDS were significantly lower and PaCO2 and lactate concentrations higher compared to non‐RDS premature and healthy calves. The ADMA and SP‐D concentrations of premature calves with RDS were lower and serum ET‐1 concentrations higher than those of non‐RDS premature and healthy calves. No statistical differences for GDF‐15 and VEGF were found among groups. Conclusions and Clinical Importance Significant increases in serum ET‐1 concentrations and decreases in ADMA and SP‐D concentrations highlight the utility of these markers in the diagnosis of PAH in premature calves with RDS. Also, we found that ET‐1 was a reliable diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for PAH and predicting mortality in premature calves.

Reported electron collision cross sections data in the energy range ~ 0 to 300 eV from gaseous biomolecule Tetrahydrofuran (THF) have been used to calculate the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) and swarm parameters for electrically excited of THF, using a two-term solution of the Boltzmann equation. The electron swarm parameters namely (mean energy, drift velocity, diffusion coefficient, electron mobility, characteristic energy, attachment and ionization coefficient), at room temperature and atmospheric pressure are presented over a wide range of applied electric field strength E/N (E is the electric field and N is the gas number density) varying from 0.1 Td to 1000 Td (1Td = 10-17 Vcm2). The EEDF found to be non-Maxwellian. The electron swarm parameters are compared with those calculated using multi term kinetic theory and experimentally using the pulsed Townsend technique. The influence of inelastic cross section on the calculated transport parameters is also explained.

Background: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) induces similar or even superior adaptations compared to continuous endurance training. Indeed, just 6 HIIT sessions over 2 weeks significantly improves maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), submaximal exercise fat oxidation, and endurance performance. Whether even faster adaptations can be achieved with HIIT is not known. Thus, we aimed to determine whether 2 sessions of HIIT per day, separated by 3 h, every other day for 5 days (double HIIT (HIIT-D), n = 15) could increase VO2max, submaximal exercise fat oxidation, and endurance capacity as effectively as 6 sessions of HIIT over 2 weeks (single HIIT (HIIT-S), n = 13). Methods: Each training session consisted of 10 × 60 s of cycling at 100% of VO2max interspersed with 75 s of low-intensity cycling at 60 watt (W). Pre- and post-training assessments included VO2max, time to exhaustion at ∼80% of VO2max, and 60-min cycling trials at ∼67% of VO2max. Results: Similar increases (p < 0.05) in VO2max (HIIT-D: 7.7% vs. HIIT-S: 6.0%, p > 0.05) and endurance capacity (HIIT-D: 80.1% vs. HIIT-S: 79.2%, p > 0.05) were observed. Submaximal exercise carbohydrate oxidation was reduced in the 2 groups after exercise training (HIIT-D: 9.2%, p = 0.014 vs. HIIT-S: 18.8%, p = 0.012) while submaximal exercise fat oxidation was significantly increased in HIIT-D (15.5%, p = 0.048) but not in HIIT-S (9.3%, p = 0.290). Conclusion: Six HIIT sessions over 5 days was as effective in increasing VO2max and endurance capacity and was more effective in improving submaximal exercise fat oxidation than 6 HIIT sessions over 2 weeks.

Abstract Background Mosquito feeding assays using venous blood are commonly used for evaluating the transmission potential of malaria infected individuals. To improve the accuracy of these assays, care must be taken to prevent premature activation or inactivation of gametocytes before they are fed to mosquitoes. This can be challenging in the field where infected individuals and insectary facilities are sometimes very far apart. In this study, a simple, reliable, field applicable method is presented for storage and transport of gametocyte infected blood using a thermos flask. Methods The optimal storage conditions for maintaining the transmissibility of gametocytes were determined initially using cultured Plasmodium falciparum gametocytes in standard membrane feeding assays (SMFAs). The impact of both the internal thermos water temperature (35.5 to 37.8 °C), and the external environmental temperature (room temperature to 42 °C) during long-term (4 h) storage, and the impact of short-term (15 min) temperature changes (room temp to 40 °C) during membrane feeding assays was assessed. The optimal conditions were then evaluated in direct membrane feeding assays (DMFAs) in Burkina Faso and The Gambia where blood from naturally-infected gametocyte carriers was offered to mosquitoes immediately and after storage in thermos flasks. Results Using cultured gametocytes in SMFAs it was determined that an internal thermos water temperature of 35.5 °C and storage of the thermos flask between RT (~ 21.3 °C) and 32 °C was optimal for maintaining transmissibility of gametocytes for 4 h. Short-term storage of the gametocyte infected blood for 15 min at temperatures up to 40 °C (range: RT, 30 °C, 38 °C and 40 °C) did not negatively affect gametocyte infectivity. Using samples from natural gametocyte carriers (47 from Burkina Faso and 16 from The Gambia), the prevalence of infected mosquitoes and the intensity of oocyst infection was maintained when gametocyte infected blood was stored in a thermos flask in water at 35.5 °C for up to 4 h. Conclusions This study determines the optimal long-term (4 h) storage temperature for gametocyte infected blood and the external environment temperature range within which gametocyte infectivity is unaffected. This will improve the accuracy, reproducibility, and utility of DMFAs in the field, and permit reliable comparative assessments of malaria transmission epidemiology in different settings.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a known endocrine disrupter and was detected in surface waters. We investigated the mineralization of BPA by electrochemical oxidation. Six different types of electrodes, including the boron-doped diamond (BDD), platinum (Pt), and mixed metal oxide (MMO) electrodes; RuO2–IrO2, RuO2–TiO2, IrO2–Ta2O5, and Pt–IrO2, were compared as the anode material. Total organic carbon (TOC) was analyzed to monitor the mineralization efficiency of BPA. BDD achieved 100% BPA mineralization efficiency in 180 min and at a current density of 125 mA/cm2, whereas the TOC removal efficiency of Pt was 60.9% and the efficiency of MMO electrodes ranged between 48 and 54%. BDD exhibited much lower specific energy consumption, which corresponds to a lower energy cost (USD63.4 /kg TOC). The effect of operational parameters showed that the BDD anode was much more affected by the current density, initial BPA concentration, and electrolyte concentration than the other parameters such as the stirring speed and interelectrode distance. HIGHLIGHTS BDD, Pt, RuO2–IrO2, RuO2–TiO2, IrO2–Ta2O5, and Pt–IrO2 were compared as the anode material.; BDD performed better than MMO anodes for the mineralization of BPA.; BDD anode showed 100% TOC removal efficiency in 180 min.; Current efficiency of BDD was 2.53 times higher than Pt and 3.7 times than MMOs.; The specific energy consumption was higher for MMO electrodes.;

Background With a diagnostic problem, the emerging severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 caused a devastating global consequence. We were identifying severity/mortality risk variables that assist in determining the need for early admission. As a result, we sought to establish for the first time the clinical, biochemical, and radiological characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Egyptian hemodialysis patients and to identify the risk factors for mortality. Patients and methods In this observational multicenter retrospective cohort study in Egypt, the data of 377 confirmed COVID-19 patients on regular hemodialysis were collected from hospitals affiliated to the general organization of teaching hospitals and institutes through the period of June 6 to July 25, 2020. The diagnosis of COVID-19 was based on radiological findings specific for COVID-19 and a positive reverse-transcriptase reaction-PCR. Results Mortality rate was 15.6%. Age group more than 55–75 was statistically significantly higher among patients who died. Multivariate analysis showed that many factors were considered predictors for mortality among maintenance hemodialysis patients, including age group more than 55–75 years [odds ratio (OR)=2.4, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.1–5.8], receiving immunosuppressive drugs (OR = 2.4, 95% CI 1.1–5.8), fatigue (OR = 4, 95% CI 1.1–13.6), presence of other manifestations (OR = 44.5, 95% CI 1.1–1938), the need for mechanical ventilation (OR = 130.8, 95% CI 8.5–2014), oxygen saturation (OR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.91–0.95), mild anemia (OR = 5.3, 95% CI 2.2–12.7), moderate anemia (OR = 3.7, 95% CI 1.5–9.2), and severe anemia (OR = 5.1, 95% CI 1.5–16.5). While fever (OR = 0.26, 95% CI 0.08–0.79), and myalgia (OR = 0.06, 95% CI 0.005–0.7), were found to be negatively associated with mortality. Conclusions In the present study, we demonstrated that the mortality rate was 15.6% among COVID-19 maintenance hemodialysis patients, and many factors are associated with this, including age group more than 55–75, receiving immunosuppressive drugs, fatigue, presence of other manifestations of COVID-19, the need for mechanical ventilation, decreased oxygen saturation, and anemia. While fever and myalgia were found to be negatively associated with mortality.

Introduction: The impact of prostate zonal volume on erectile function and penile Doppler parameters is not yet settled. Aim: To assess the association between prostate zonal volume and erectile dysfunction in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study included 70 men (aged ≥ 40 years). Of them, 60 patients were assigned to 3 study groups (n = 20/each): group (A) patients who had lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs) and erectile dysfunction (ED), group (B) patients who had LUTSs with no ED, group (C) patients who had ED with no LUTS, and other 10 age-matched patients who had no LUTS or ED acted as a control group (D). All patients were subjected to detailed medical and sexual history. International prostate symptom score (IPSS) was used to assess LUTSs, and international index of erectile function (IIEF) was used to assess ED. Main Outcome Measure: Transrectal ultrasound and penile Doppler ultrasound were used to assess zonal anatomy of the prostate and the vascular pattern of erection. The aim of this was to compare the effects of the graded exercise test (GXT) with or without load carriage on maximal oxygen uptake ([Formula: see text]) heart rate (HR), and expired ventilation ([Formula: see text]) and blood lactate in young healthy males and females. The study included ten females (age:20.2±0.7 yrs) and ten males (age:19.5±0.7 yrs) who performed the modified Bruce protocol at five load conditions; unloaded, 5, 10, 15, and 20% of body weight (BW) (kg). All the tests were performed in random order, at least 48 hours apart. During the GXTs, HR, [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], workload and test duration were recorded and blood lactate concentration was measured before and immediately after the GXTs. [Formula: see text] remained unchanged during the GXTs in load and unloaded conditions for both sexes (p>0.05). Test duration was significantly less in females during the GXT with 15% BW (15.9±0.51 min vs. 18.1±1.14 min; p = 0.014) and 20% BW load carriage (15.2±0.75 min vs. 18.1±1.14 min; p = 0.020), compared to the unloaded GXT. Males showed significant decrease in the test duration during the GXT with load 15% BW (20.5±0.53 min vs. 22.8±0.61 min; p = 0.047) and with 20% BW (19.6±0.42 min vs. 22.8±0.71 min; p = 0.004), compared to the GXT with 5% BW. Purpose. We aimed to evaluate foveal and parafoveal density using optical coherence tomography angiography and the alteration on the retinal vessel diameter in patients with inactive Graves’ ophthalmopathy compared to age-matched normal population. Materials and Methods. Patients with inactive Graves’ ophthalmopathy (study group) and healthy individuals (control group) were enrolled in the cross sectionally designed study. The optical coherence tomography angiography parameters and retinal vessel diameter measurements were assessed between the study and control groups. Foveal and parafoveal microvascular density in the retina was measured using optical coherence tomography angiography. Retinal artery and vein diameter and artery/vein ratio were assessed for retinal vessel caliber changes. Results. Patients with inactive Graves’ ophthalmopathy had higher values of intraocular pressure, proptosis, and axial length (P=0.001, P=0.002, and P=0.008, respectively). Temporal parafoveal vessel density was 48.93 ± 3.21 and 47.62 ± 2.59 in the study and control groups, respectively (P=0.017). Nasal parafoveal vessel density was 47.55 ± 3.01 and 46.46 ± 2.57 in the study and control groups, respectively (P=0.035). Foveal, superior, and inferior parafoveal vessel density values were similar in the study and control groups (P=0.268, P=0.107, and P=0.055, respectively). Patients in the study group had narrower retinal artery and vein diameters (P≤0.001 and P=0.033). Artery/vein ratio was significantly higher in the control group (P≤0.001). Conclusion. Optical coherence tomography angiography could be a novel and promising noninvasive diagnostic technique in patients with inactive Graves’ ophthalmopathy to detect foveal and parafoveal vessel density changes compared to healthy subjects. The decrease of retinal vessel diameter might be observed in patients with inactive graves ophthalmopathy.

Background: Africa was certified polio-free in 2020 and to maintain the polio-free status, African countries need to attain and maintain optimal routine polio vaccination coverage. One indicator for optimal polio vaccination coverage is the prevalence of children who have received no polio vaccination through routine services. The objective of the study was to examine the individual-, neighbourhood-, and country-level factors associated with non-vaccination against polio in Africa. Methods: We applied multivariable multilevel logistic regression analyses on recent demographic and health survey data collected from 2010 onwards in Africa. We identified 64,867 children aged 12–23 months (Level 1) nested within 16,283 neighbourhoods (Level 2) from 32 countries (Level 3). Results: The prevalence of non-vaccination for polio ranged from 2.19% in Egypt to 32.74% in Guinea. We found the following factors to be independent predictors of the increased odds of non-vaccination for polio: being a male child, born to mother with no formal education, living in poorer households; being from a polygamous family, living in neighbourhoods with high maternal illiteracy, high unemployment rate, and low access to media. Conclusions: We found that both individual and contextual factors are associated with non-vaccination for Polio.

Background: The non ionization of magnetic resonance fields effect sreported with radical pair recombination. Which is one of the familiar methods by which static magnetic felid interact with biological systems. Exposure to static magnetic fields can effect on the paramagnetic free radicals by increasing the concentration, the activity and life time of paramagnetic free radicals, which might lead to genetic mutation, oxidative stress, and in some times with apoptosis. Objective: To estimate the genotoxicity on DNA molecule during expose to static magnetic field 1.5T of magnetic resonance imaging. Patients and Methods: The five blood samples were irradiated to 1.5T static magnetic field at different periods (10,20,30,40,and 50 minutes correspondingly). All exposures were performed at room temperature. Cellular DNA damage had been analyzed by the alkaline comet assay. Results: The results approved a significant increasing in the rate of recurrence of single-strand DNA breaks next to the exposure of a 1.5T of magnetic resonance imaging at 50 min. According to these results the exposure with 3T magnetic resonance imaging encourage genotoxic effects in human lymphocytes could be suggested. Conclusion: To conclude, in the present study, employing alkaline comet assay, it has been demonstrated thatmagnetic resonance imaging- induced DNA damages is significant in leukocytes at 50 minute after exprosure to 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND:Prior acute coronary syndrome (ACS) registries in Saudi Arabia might not have accurately described the true demographics and cardiac care of patients with ACS. We aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of a representative sample of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Saudi Arabia. METHODS:We conducted a 1-month snap-shot, prospective, multi-center registry study in 50 hospitals from various health care sectors in Saudi Arabia. We followed patients for 1 month and 1 year after hospital discharge. Patients with AMI included those with or without ST-segment elevation (STEMI or NSTEMI, respectively). This program survey will be repeated every 5 years. RESULTS:Between May 2015 and January 2017, we enrolled 2233 patients with ACS (mean age was 56 [standard deviation = 13] years; 55.6% were Saudi citizens, 85.7% were men, and 65.9% had STEMI). Coronary artery disease risk factors were high; 52.7% had diabetes mellitus and 51.2% had hypertension. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was utilized in only 5.2% of cases. Revascularization for patients with STEMI included thrombolytic therapy (29%), primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI); (42.5%), neither (29%), or a pharmaco-invasive approach (3%). High-intensity exercise/training, especially interval exercise/training, has gained popularity in recent years. Hypoxic training was introduced to elite athletes half a century ago and has recently been adopted by the general public. In the current review, we have summarised the molecular adaptive responses of skeletal muscle to high-intensity exercise/training, focusing on mitochondrial biogenesis, angiogenesis, and muscle fibre composition. The literature suggests that (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha) PGC-1α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF1-α) might be the main mediators of skeletal muscle adaptations to high-intensity exercises in hypoxia. Exercise is known to be anti-inflammatory, while the effects of hypoxia on inflammatory signalling are more complex. The anti-inflammatory effects of a single session of exercise might result from the release of anti-inflammatory myokines and other cytokines, as well as the downregulation of Toll-like receptor signalling, while training-induced anti-inflammatory effects may be due to reductions in abdominal and visceral fat (which are main sources of pro-inflammatory cytokines). Hypoxia can lead to inflammation, and inflammation can result in tissue hypoxia. However, the hypoxic factor HIF1-α is essential for preventing excessive inflammation. Disease-induced hypoxia is related to an upregulation of inflammatory signalling, but the effects of exercise-induced hypoxia on inflammation are less conclusive. The effects of high-intensity exercise under hypoxia on skeletal muscle molecular adaptations and inflammatory signalling have not been fully explored and are worth investigating in future studies. Understanding these effects will lead to a more comprehensive scientific basis for maximising the benefits of high-intensity exercise.

BackgroundAcute kidney injury (AKI) is a major risk factor for the development of chronic kidney disease. Nuclear factor‐κB is a nuclear transcription factor activated post‐ischemia, responsible for the transcription of proinflammatory proteins. The role of nuclear factor‐κB in the renal fibrosis post‐AKI is unknown. Methods and ResultsWe used a rat model of AKI caused by unilateral nephrectomy plus contralateral ischemia (30 minutes) and reperfusion injury (up to 28 days) to show impairment of renal function (peak: 24 hours), activation of nuclear factor‐κB (peak: 48 hours), and fibrosis (28 days). In humans, AKI is diagnosed by a rise in serum creatinine. We have discovered that the IκB kinase inhibitor IKK16 (even when given at peak serum creatinine) still improved functional and structural recovery and reduced myofibroblast formation, macrophage infiltration, transforming growth factor‐β expression, and Smad2/3 phosphorylation. AKI resulted in fibrosis within 28 days (Sirius red staining, expression of fibronectin), which was abolished by IKK16. To confirm the efficacy of IKK16 in a more severe model of fibrosis, animals were subject to 14 days of unilateral ureteral obstruction, resulting in tubulointerstitial fibrosis, myofibroblast formation, and macrophage infiltration, all of which were attenuated by IKK16. ConclusionsInhibition of IκB kinase at peak creatinine improves functional recovery, reduces further injury, and prevents fibrosis.

A simple, rapid, economic, accurate, and precise method for the estimation of rifampicin in a mixture of isoniazid and pyrazinamide by UV spectrophotometeric technique (guided by the theoretical investigation of physicochemical properties) was developed and validated. Theoretical investigations revealed that isoniazid and pyrazinamide both were freely soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethyl acetate whereas rifampicin was practically insoluble in water but freely soluble in ethyl acetate. This indicates that ethyl acetate is an effective solvent for the extraction of rifampicin from a water mixture of isoniazid and pyrazinamide. Computational study indicated that pH range of 6.0–8.0 would favor the extraction of rifampicin. Rifampicin is separated from isoniazid and pyrazinamide at pH 7.4 ± 0.1 by extracting with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate was then analyzed at λmax of 344.0 nm. The developed method was validated for linearity, accuracy and precision according to ICH guidelines. The proposed method exhibited good linearity over the concentration range of 2.5–35.0 μg/mL. The intraday and inter-day precision in terms of % RSD ranged from 1.09 to 1.70% and 1.63 to 2.99%, respectively. The accuracy (in terms of recovery) of the method varied from of 96.7 ± 0.9 to 101.1 ± 0.4%. The LOD and LOQ were found to be 0.83 and 2.52 μg/mL, respectively. In addition, the developed method was successfully applied to determine rifampicin combination (isoniazid and pyrazinamide) brands available in Bangladesh.

Methods: The biological fate of SPION microbubbles was determined in Sprague-Dawley rats after intravenous administration. Biodistribution and elimination of the microbubbles were studied in rats using magnetic resonance imaging for a period of 6 weeks. The rats were sacrificed and perfusion-fixated at different time points. The magnetic resonance imaging results obtained were compared with histopathologic findings in different organs. Results: SPION microbubbles could be detected in the liver using magnetic resonance imaging as early as 10 minutes post injection. The maximum signal was detected between 24 hours and one week post injection. Histopathology showed the presence of clustered SPION microbubbles predominantly in the lungs from the first time point investigated (10 minutes). The frequency of microbubbles declined in the pulmonary vasculature and increased in pulmonary, hepatic, and splenic macrophages over time, resulting in a relative shift from the lungs to the spleen and liver. Meanwhile, macrophages showed increasing signs of cytoplasmic iron accumulation, initially in the lungs, then followed by other organs. Conclusion: The present investigation highlights the biological behavior of SPION microbubbles, including organ distribution over time and indications for biodegradation. The present results are essential for developing SPION microbubbles as a potential contrast agent and/or a drug delivery vehicle for specific organs. Such a vehicle will facilitate the use of multimodality imaging techniques, including ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and single positron emission computed tomography, and hence improve diagnostics, therapy, and the ability to monitor the efficacy of treatment. SUMMARY There is limited evidence that the tissue-protective effects of erythropoietin are mediated by a heterocomplex of the erythropoietin receptor and the β-common receptor (‘tissue-protective receptor’), which is pharmacologically distinct from the ‘classical’ erythropoietin receptor homodimer that is responsible for erythropoiesis. However, the role of the β-common receptor and/or erythropoietin in sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction (a well known, serious complication of sepsis) is unknown. Here we report for the first time that the β-common receptor is essential for the improvements in the impaired systolic contractility afforded by erythropoietin in experimental sepsis. Cardiac function was assessed in vivo (echocardiography) and ex vivo (Langendorff-perfused heart) in wild-type and β-common receptor knockout mice, that were subjected to lipopolysaccharide (9 mg/kg body weight; young mice) for 16–18 hours or cecal ligation and puncture (aged mice) for 24 hours. Mice received erythropoietin (1000 IU/kg body weight) 1 hour after lipopolysaccharide or cecal ligation and puncture. Erythropoietin reduced the impaired systolic contractility (in vivo and ex vivo) caused by endotoxemia or sepsis in young as well as old wild-type mice in a β-common-receptor-dependent fashion. Activation by erythropoietin of the β-common receptor also resulted in the activation of well-known survival pathways (Akt and endothelial nitric oxide synthase) and inhibition of pro-inflammatory pathways (glycogen synthase kinase-3β, nuclear factor-κB and interleukin-1β). All the above pleiotropic effects of erythropoietin were lost in β-common receptor knockout mice. Erythropoietin attenuates the impaired systolic contractility associated with sepsis by activation of the β-common receptor, which, in turn, results in activation of survival pathways and inhibition of inflammation.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most prevalent urological cancer that affects aging men in South Africa, and mechanisms underlying prostate tumorigenesis remain elusive. Research advancements in the field of PCa and epigenetics have allowed for the identification of specific alterations that occur beyond genetics but are still critically important in the pathogenesis of tumorigenesis. Anomalous epigenetic changes associated with PCa include histone modifications, DNA methylation, and noncoding miRNA. These mechanisms regulate and silence hundreds of target genes including some which are key components of cellular signalling pathways that, when perturbed, promote tumorigenesis. Elucidation of mechanisms underlying epigenetic alterations and the manner in which these mechanisms interact in regulating gene transcription in PCa are an unmet necessity that may lead to novel chemotherapeutic approaches. This will, therefore, aid in developing combination therapies that will target multiple epigenetic pathways, which can be used in conjunction with the current conventional PCa treatment.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EG) is a heterogenous disorder affecting adults, and is characterized by the presence of eosinophilic infiltration in the gastrointestinal tract. The clinical features of EG are related to the layers and extent of bowel involved from the esophagus to the colon. The diagnosis is typically confirmed by biopsy, which should reveal 20-25 eosinophils per high-power field on microscopic examination. We report a 38-year-old man who presented with a 2-month history of dyspeptic symptoms. On examination, he was found to have only moderate ascites. The investigations revealed peripheral eosinophilia with markedly elevated eosinophils (95%) in the ascitic fluid. The imaging studies showed diffuse concentric bowel wall thickening involving the entire small bowel. The diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy from the antrum of the stomach. The patient was managed with steroids.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a common chronic and destructive autoimmune arthropathy .Treatment with infliximab gives great improvement to a large numbers of patients with RA ,however, in some patients after prolonged treatment infliximab can induce anti-infliximab antibodies formation and result to loss of infliximab efficacy and active persistent disease. Objective: to investigate the frequency of anti-infliximab antibodies in Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Patients and methods: fifty Iraqi RA patients(36 females and 14 males) compared with 50 control( 25 healthy control and 25 case control (patients with RA on other treatment) ) were included in this study from begging of March 2014 till end of September 2014.All patients were diagnosed by full history, complete clinical examination and laboratory test. Anti-infliximab antibodies were meatured using enzymelinked immunosorbent assay in serum of Iraqi patients with RA treated with infliximab more than 3 months duration. Results: Antibodies to infliximab were detected in 35(70%) Iraqi RA patients , while the patients without detectable antibodies against infliximab were 15(30%),also there were no anti-infliximab antibodies in the control groups. Conclusion: In this study, nearly three quarter of the Iraqi RA patients treated with infliximab developed anti-infliximab antibodies.

Oro-cranial penetrating injuries are often seen in ear, nose and throat practices. Cases of penetrated pencil injuries are rarely reported despite being common in the developing world. A 7-year-old boy referred from a neighboring hospital was playing at school with the sharp end of a pencil in his mouth when he was pushed from behind by another child. He fell on his face and the sharp end of the pencil penetrated his throat with the distal end hanging out. There was no bleeding at presentation, as the pencil completely sealed the entrance point. The entrance point was at the posterior wall of the oropharynx corresponding to the uvulo-palatine junction. It penetrated posterosuperiorly through the soft tissue to reach the anterior part of the posterior cranial fossa. Since sharp and pointed objects in the upper aerodigestive tract can result in potentially fatal complications, prompt diagnosis, a systematic treatment protocol, and an experienced trauma team are necessary to prevent a potential catastrophe.

In the title compound, C22H27BrO3, the cyclohexane ring adopts a chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 41.9 (4)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. In addition, π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distance = 3.953 (6) Å] between the benzene rings of the methoxybenzene groups occur.

Background: Chronic atrophic gastritis is a precancerous lesion. A commonly used test for the diagnosis of chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric endoscopy with biopsy collection, and a good serological test would be best include low levels of pepsinogen I (PGI) or a low PGI/PGII ratio. Aim of the study: T o confirm the use of serum pepsinogens as a screening marker in atrophic gastritis. Patients and Methods: A study was conducted in the period between December 2005 and March 2006 on 25 patients with atrophic gastritis attending Gastroenterology and Hepatology Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, and 25 healthy control subjects. Sera were tested for PGI and PGII by ELISA test. Results and Conclusions: the serum PGI were decreased significantly with atrophic gastritis and the PGI/PGII ratio were decreased in (78%) of patient group and not affected in healthy people.

We report the study of fluorescence quenching from nanoassemblies formed by Rhodamine 6G and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) of 2.6 nm radius. The presence of Au NPs induces long-term degradation of the photostability (photobleaching) of Rhodamine 6G used as a gain medium in a Fabry-Perot laser cavity. We found that the degradation gets profound when the Au NPs concentration is significantly increased. Calculation of the radiative rate and direct time-resolved measurement of the fluorescence decay indicates that both the decrease of radiative decay rate and increase of non-radiative decay rate are responsible for the fluorescence quenching and photostability degradation. An energy transfer from the dye molecules to gold nanoparticles is dominating within small distance between them and suppresses the quantum efficiency of Rhodamine 6G drastically. In a long time scale, the photobleaching rate was slowing down, and the laser output intensity reached a stabilized level which depends on the gold nanoparticles concentration.
