Abstract

A magnesium hydride cation [(L)MgH]+ supported by a macrocyclic ligand (L = Me4TACD; 1,4,7,10-tetramethyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) has been prepared by partial protonolysis of a mixed amide hydride [(L)MgH2Mg{N(SiMe3)2}2] and shown to undergo a variety of reactions with unsaturated substrates, including pyridine.

Abstract

Heteroleptic magnesium hydrides are important for their stoichiometric and catalytic reduction chemistry. Their primary nucleophilic site is typically the hydride, while the ancillary ligands commonly used are mostly spectators. Chemically non-innocent ligands in comparison are rarely applied on MgH as their reactivity can be complex. Milstein et al. have recently reported Mg-mediated alkyne hydrogenation by using their metal–ligand cooperation (MLC) concept on a dearomatized picolyl-based PNP pincer that is non-innocent with a nucleophilic nature. A '(PNP)MgH' is noted as the active catalyst in hydrogenation but without structural validation. Inspired by the same, we report herein a novel NNN-chelator (MesL) with a dearomatized picolyl moiety and its well-defined MgH. Having two prominent nucleophilic sites, the present MgH shows metal–ligand competition while reacting with certain electrophiles. It also distinguishes nonpolar alkynes and polar carbonyls by cleanly inserting itself into the former but not the latter. The nucleophilicities of the two sites are also probed by DFT methods and compared with Milstein's (PNP)MgH. Abstract

The prevalence of concomitant deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and its impact on 30-day outcomes in Hispanic patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is unknown. We retrospectively studied a cohort of Hispanic patients admitted for acute PE to determine the relationship of concomitant DVT to clot burden on chest computer tomography (CT), right heart strain, and 30-day mortality. We identified 391 patients admitted with acute PE; 168 (42.9%) had concomitant DVTs on admission; 39 patients (9.9%) died during the 30-day follow-up: 12 patients without concomitant DVT and 27 with concomitant DVT, respectively (p <.001). The presence of a proximal DVT independently predicted 30-day mortality even after adjusting for age, gender and admission PE severity index scores (PESI) (hazard ratio [HR] 2.0; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.4-3.0, p =.001). Proximal DVTs remained a significant predictor of 30-day mortality in patients with low and intermediate PESI scores (HR 2.5; 95% CI: 1.1-6.0, p =.035). The prevalence of concomitant DVT in Hispanic patients presenting with acute DVT is relatively lower than other ethnic groups. However, a proximal location of a DVT is of significant prognostic relevance. The Society for Vascular Medicine (SVM) has updated its Manual of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for SVM Publications. The Research, Quality, and Publications Committee of SVM is responsible for developing position statements, practice guidelines, and other documents. The committee identifies potential topics through periodic assessments, considering input from stakeholders and addressing variations in clinical practice and inequalities in patient care. SVM may collaborate with other organizations in document development, following mutually agreed-upon policies and procedures. 35. A Hybrid Benzothiazolyl-NHC Ligand with a Flexible −CH2– Linker and Its Cationic Rh(I)Complex That Catalyzes the Olefin Hydrosilylation

Abstract

A C,N-bidentate hybrid benzothiazolyl-NHC ligand (L) with a flexible −CH2– linker between the two moieties is devised. Classical deprotonation of the corresponding imidazolium bromide LHBr by M2O (M = Cu, Ag) affords the [(L)MBr] complexes 1(M = Cu) and 2(M = Ag), where the ligand L is monodentate by binding through the NHC only. A transmetalation with [Rh(COD)2]BF4from both gives the cationic Rh(I)complex [(L)Rh(COD)]BF4(3), which turns out to be a decent air-stable catalyst for olefin hydrosilylation giving anti-Markovnikov addition products under ambient benchtop conditions.
