The study aimed to investigate how pre-service elementary mathematics teachers perceive the intended use of non-textual elements in an algebra content area of an eighth-grade mathematics textbook. Non-textual elements in this qualitative exploratory case study refer to visual representations consisting of components that are not only verbal, numerical, or symbolic representations. Data were collected from thirty-one undergraduate students through a task-based written questionnaire including seven non-textual elements on the algebra learning domain. Data analysis was conducted using a content analysis approach to generate themes and uncover previously unspecified patterns. The results showed that pre-service teachers’ interpretations of non-textual elements could be categorized into ten themes: (i) attractiveness, (ii) organizing, (iii) embodiment, (iv) informativeness, (v) reasoning, (vi) conciseness, (vii) essentiality, (viii) decorativeness, (ix) contextuality, and (x) connectivity. Pre-service teachers were found to have diverse but sometimes overlapping interpretations of the functions of each non-textual element. However, the functional diversity of non-textual elements may have differentiated their interpretations, as visual literacy skills and strategies are required to interpret the intended use of non-textual elements. Therefore, in order for pre-service mathematics teachers to better understand the functions of non-textual elements, various teaching approaches should be developed to support pre-service teachers’ visual literacy, and these approaches to visual literacy should be incorporated into teacher education and professional development.

Purpose Teacher roles and classroom discourses have great influence on classroom discussions within the context of socio-scientific issues. Investigation of teacher roles and classroom discourses is of great importance in the construction of the classroom environment in which students can support their views and the reasons underlying their views through scientific data in cases such as Covid-19 requiring decision-making at community level. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the roles adopted by science teachers in bringing the socio-scientific issue of Covid-19 vaccine into their classrooms and whether the communicative approach they employed and the teacher roles they adopted complied with the discourses they drew on in their classes. Methods The study employed the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods and the study group was comprised of three science teachers and the students in their classes. As the data sources, video-recordings of the teachers' lessons and the vignettes related to the roles adopted by the teachers in addressing socio-scientific issues were used. The similarities and differences between the roles adopted by the teachers and the discourses used by them were examined and the communicative approach used by the teachers in their lessons was analyzed through discourse analysis. Results and conclusions It was found that the reasons proposed by the three science teachers to explain why they adopted these roles complied with their discourses used in the classes. It was observed that the more experienced teachers offered more opportunities for their students to talk in their classes (used dialogical discourse) and that the roles adopted by all the teachers and the discourses used by them in their classes were consistent with each other. Students are required to speak scientifically and actively participate in science lessons. However, the teacher's role in the classroom environment, classroom interactions, and the quality of this interaction are very important for this.

Veri kümesinde çoklu iç ilişki problemi olması durumunda kararlı katsayı tahminleri elde etmek için sıklıkla cezalı regresyon yöntemleri kullanılır. Ayrıca bu yöntemler uygulanan ceza teriminin yapısına bağlı olarak otomatik değişken seçimi de yapabilmektedir. Bu çalışmada literatürde yaygın kullanım alanı bulan ridge, LASSO, elastik net ve uyarlanabilir LASSO cezalı regresyon yöntemlerinin gerçek katsayı vektörünün yapısına bağlı olarak simülasyon çalışmaları yoluyla performanslarının ayrıntılı olarak karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır. Çalışmada karşılaştırma kriteri olarak test kümesi üzerinde hata kareler ortalaması, yanlış sınıflama oranı, yanlış pozitif oranı ve aktif küme büyüklükleri kullanılmıştır. Simülasyon çalışmaları, gerçek katsayı vektörünün yapısının yöntemlerin ortaya çıkardığı model performansı üzerinde önemli etkisinin olduğunu göstermektedir., Penalized regression methods are often used to obtain stable coefficient estimates in case of multicollinearity problems in the dataset. In addition, these methods can make automatic variable selection depending on the nature of the penalty term applied. In this study, a detailed comparison of the performances of ridge, LASSO, elastic net and adaptive LASSO penalized regression methods, which are widely used in the literature, is made through simulation studies depending on the structure of the real coefficient vector. Mean squared error on the test set, misclassification rate, false positive rate and active set sizes are used as comparison criteria in the study. Simulation studies show that the structure of the real coefficient vector has a significant effect on the model performance revealed by the methods.

Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyobilimsel bir konu olan doku ve organ bağışı ile ilgili tutumlarını ve bu süreçte kullandıkları informal muhakeme örüntülerini tespit etmektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Düzce Üniversitesinde bulunan 10 fakülte içerisinde yer alan 773 öğrenci (456 kadın, 317 erkek) oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada durum çalışması deseni esas alınmıştır .Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin kaynağını, doku ve organ bağışı konusunu içeren bir metin ve açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir form oluşturmaktadır. Öğrencilerin verdikleri cevaplar informal muhakeme (rasyonel, sezgisel, duygusal) örüntülerine göre betimsel analiz tekniğine göre analiz yapılmıştır. Bulgular incelendiğinde tüm fakülteler arasında informal muhakeme örüntüleri içinde en fazla tercih edilen duygusal muhakeme örüntüsü olduğu görülmüştür. Fakülteler içinde ise en fazla duygusal muhakeme örüntüsünü kullanan fakülte Tıp Fakültesi (%88) ilk sırada yer almaktadır. Genel olarak fakülteler arasında en az tercih edilen muhakeme örüntüsü ise rasyonel muhakeme örüntüsü olmuştur. Fakülteler arasında en fazla rasyonel muhakeme örüntüsünü kullanan fakülte ise Eğitim Fakültesidir (%28). Sezgisel muhakeme örüntüsünü ise fakülteler içinde en fazla Sanat Tasarım Fakültesi (%40) kullanmıştır. Araştırmada cinsiyete göre elde edilen bulgular incelendiğinde ise; erkek ve kız öğrencilerde daha çok duygusal informal muhakeme örüntüsünün ön plana çıktığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Erkek öğrencilerin kız öğrencilere göre daha çok rasyonel ve sezgisel muhakeme yaptığı da görülmüştür. Fakülteler arası sınıf düzeylerine ait informal muhakeme örüntülerine baktığımızda ise bütün sınıf düzeylerinde en fazla tercih edilen duygusal muhakeme örüntüsü olmuştur.

We conduct a field experiment to test the non-monotonic effect of deadline length on task completion. Participants are invited to complete an online survey in which a donation goes to charity. They are given either one week, one month or no deadline to respond. Responses are lowest for the one-month deadline and highest when no deadline is specified. No deadline and the one-week deadline feature a large number of early responses, while providing a one-month deadline appears to give people permission to procrastinate. If they are inattentive, they might forget to complete the task.

Cancer classification and gene selection are important applications in DNA microarray gene expression data analysis. Since DNA microarray data suffers from the high-dimensionality problem, automatic gene selection methods are used to enhance the classification performance of expert classifier systems. In this paper, a new penalized logistic regression method that performs simultaneous gene coefficient estimation and variable selection in DNA microarray data is discussed. The method employs prior information about the gene coefficients to improve the classification accuracy of the underlying model. The coordinate descent algorithm with screening rules is given to obtain the gene coefficient estimates of the proposed method efficiently. The performance of the method is examined on five high-dimensional cancer classification datasets using the area under the curve, the number of selected genes, misclassification rate and F-score measures. The real data analysis results indicate that the proposed method achieves a good cancer classification performance with a small misclassification rate, large area under the curve and F-score by trading off some sparsity level of the underlying model. Hence, the proposed method can be seen as a reliable penalized logistic regression method in the scope of high-dimensional cancer classification.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, fen bilimleri derslerinde öğretim amacıyla öğrencilerin tablet ya da bilgisayar kullanma durumu ile öğrencilerin fen başarısı arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. Öğrencilerin öğrenme amaçlı tablet ve bilgisayar kullanım sıklığı ile öğrenci başarısı arasındaki ilişkiyi araştıran bu çalışmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama metodu kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmanın çalışma grubunu TIMSS 2019 sınavına 8. sınıf düzeyinde katılan ülkelerden seçilmiş üç farklı ülkenin öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. TIMSS 2019 sınavına 8. sınıf düzeyinde 39 ülke katılmıştır. Bu 39 ülke içinden üç ülke iki aşamada seçilerek bu çalışmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Bunlar yüksek seviyeden Singapur, orta seviyeden Türkiye ve düşük seviyeden Gürcistan olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri ise herkese açık olan TIMSS 2019 veri tabanı kullanılarak öğrenci ölçeğinden ve öğrencilerin fen bilimleri sınav sonuçlarından elde edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada öğrencilere uygulanan ölçekteki “Öğrenme amaçlı olarak ne sıklıkla bir bilgisayar ya da tablet kullanıyorsunuz?” sorusuna verilen cevaplar incelenmiştir. Bu araştırmanın veri analizinde nicel araştırma yöntemlerinde sıklıkla kullanılan çoklu doğrusal regresyon analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular incelendiğinde araştırmaya dâhil edilen üç ülkede de öğrencilerin öğrenme amaçlı tablet ve bilgisayar kullanım sıklığı arttıkça başarılarının anlamlı bir şekilde azaldığı görülmüştür.

Objective: To systematically characterise sugar‐sweetened beverage (SSB) tax policy changes in Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) from 2000 to 2019. Methods: Medline, Google Scholar, Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute database, Factiva and news and government websites were systematically searched up to October 2019. Information was extracted on the date and SSB tax level change, tax type, included beverages, and earmarking; and checked for consistency with local experts. Results: Three‐quarters of PICTs had an SSB tax (n=16/21) and 11 of these were excise taxes that included both imported and locally produced beverages. The level of tax was over 20% in 14 jurisdictions. SSB tax was increased by more than 20 percentage points in eight PICTs. Most taxes were ad valorem or volumetric, three were earmarked and only two taxes targeted sugar‐sweetened fruit juices. The majority of countries (14/21) had different tax rates for imported and locally produced beverages. Conclusions: More than three‐quarters of PICTs have SSB taxes. More than one‐third increased these taxes since 2000 at an amount that is expected to reduce soft drink consumption. Implications for public health: Despite high‐quality tax design elements in some PICTs, SSB control policies could generally be strengthened to improve health benefits, e.g. by targeting all SSBs and earmarking revenue for health.

Çalışmanın amaçlarından biri, sosyobilimsel konuların öğretimine yönelik duyuşsal eğilimleri belirleyen bir ölçek geliştirmektir. Diğer amaç ise geliştirilen ölçek ile fen bilimleri öğretmen adaylarının sosyobilimsel konuların öğretimine ilişkin duyuşsal eğilimlerini ve bu eğilimler üzerinde etkili olabilecek değişkenleri araştırmaktır. Çalışma grubunu 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim döneminde Türkiye’de bulunan 9 farklı üniversitenin eğitim fakültelerinde öğrenim gören 126 erkek, 622 kadın olmak üzere toplam 748 fen bilimleri öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Taslak halinde hazırlanan ölçek öğretmen adaylarına uygulanmış, elde edilen veriler açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda 4 boyutlu 28 maddeden oluşan bir ölçek elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca elde edilen verilerle öğretmen adaylarının sosyobilimsel konuların öğretimine yönelik duyuşsal eğilimleri ile belirlenen değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre adayların sosyobilimsel konuların öğretimine yönelik duyuşsal eğilimlerinde kadınlar lehine istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur. Sınıf düzeyi ve anne-baba gelir düzeyi değişkenlerine göre yalnızca öz yeterlilik alt boyutunda anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur. Yapılan analizlere göre anne-baba eğitim düzeyi ve yerleşim yeri değişkenlerine göre herhangi bir anlamlı farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. İleride yapılacak olan çalışmalarda geliştirilen ölçek ile çeşitli eğitim düzeyinde görev yapan Biyoloji, Sınıf, Fen Bilimleri ve Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin sosyobilimsel konuların öğretimine yönelik duyuşsal eğilimleri araştırılabilir., One of the aims of the study is to develop a scale that determines affective tendencies towards the teaching of socioscientific issues. Another goal is to investigate the affective tendencies of science Teacher candidates related to the teaching socioscientific issues with the developed scale and the variables that might affect these trends. The participants are a total of 748 science teacher candidates, 126 men and 622 women, who study in the educational faculties of 9 different universities in Turkey during the 2019-2020 academic year. In this study quantitative-based cross-sectional survey design is used. First version of the test was administered to teacher candidates and obtained data were analyzed via an explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis. As a result of the analyses, developed scale consisted of 28 items with 4 factors. In addition, the data examined whether the relationship between the affective tendencies of teacher candidates for teaching socioscientific issues change in terms of some demographic variables. Results of this study indicated that teacher candidates’ views on teaching socioscientific issues differed significantly in favor of women. Only a significant difference was found in the lower self-efficacy dimension of the scale compared to class level and parental income variables. According to the analysis, no significant differences were found among the education level of parents and in terms of their residents. The developed scale might be used in future studies to investigate the affective tendencies of science and social studies, biology, and primary school teachers related to teaching socioscientific issues.

Okul öncesi dönem, çocukların gelişen bilişsel, sosyal, fiziksel ve duygusal becerileri sayesinde çevreyi tanımaya başladıkları ve temel yaşamsal beceriler kazandıkları bir dönemdir. Çocuğun kendini tanımaya ve çevreyi kontrol etmeye çalıştığı bu dönemde zaman zaman psikopatolojik sonuçlar ortaya çıkabilmektedir. Bu dönemde yaşanan problemlerin tedavi aşamalarına, çocuğun en önemli uğraşı olan oyunun eklenmesiyle oyun terapilerinin giderek yaygınlık kazanmaya başladığı görülmektedir. Oyun terapileri, çocukların psiko-sosyal problemlerinin oyunun iyileştirici gücü kullanılarak tedavi edildiği bir terapi yöntemi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bebek, çocuk, ergen gibi farklı yaş gruplarında uygulanabilen oyun terapilerinin en sık tercih edildiği yaş grubu 3-12 yaş aralığıdır. İçinde bulunulan gelişim dönemleri dikkate alınarak hazırlanan oyun terapisi teknikleriyle, çocukların problem çözme becerilerinin geliştirilmesi ve psikolojik iyilik hallerine ulaşmaları amaçlanmaktadır. Oyun terapileri, birçok psikolojik bozukluğun tedavisinde kullanılmaktadır. Mevcut derleme makalesinde okul öncesi dönemde sık görülen depresyon, dikkat eksikliği hiperaktivite bozukluğu, çocukluk çağı travmaları, kaygı bozuklukları, davranış bozuklukları, otizm ve öğrenme güçlüğü gibi bozukluklar üzerinde oyun terapisinin etkililiği değerlendirilmiş, başta davranış bozuklukları ve depresyon olmak üzere incelenen bütün bozuklukların tedavisinde etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

This paper discusses a new estimator that performs simultaneous parameter estimation and variable selection in the scope of penalized regression methods. The estimator is an extension of the Liu estimator with $$\ell _{1}$$ -norm penalization. We give the coordinate descent algorithm to estimate the coefficient vector of the proposed estimator, efficiently. We also examine the consistency properties of the estimator. We conduct simulation studies and two real data analyses to compare the proposed estimator with several estimators including the ridge, Liu, lasso and elastic net. The simulation studies and real data analyses show that besides performing automatic variable selection, the new estimator has considerable prediction performance with a small mean squared error under sparse and non-sparse data structures.

Objective:To evaluate the impact of changes in import tariffs on sweetened beverages.Design:Interrupted time series analysis was used to examine sweetened beverage tariff increases of 40–60 % in 2008 and to 75 % in 2012, and an approximately 11 % decrease in 2014 when an excise tax replaced the tariff. Post-tax trends were compared with a counterfactual modelled on the pre-tax trend for: quarterly price of an indicator beverage, monthly beverage import volumes (both 2001–2017) and quarterly sales volumes (2012–2017). In a controlled analysis, taxed beverage imports were compared with a sugary snacks control.Setting:Cook Islands.Participants:NA.Results:In the first year, after the 2008 tariff increase the price of the selected indicator soft drink increased by 7·3 % (95 % CI 6·3 %, 8·3 %) but after the 2012 tariff increase it decreased by 13·9 % (95 % CI –14·9 %, –12·8 %). At the same time, the import volumes of taxed beverages decreased by 13·2 % (95 % CI –38·1 %, 17·8 %) and 2·9 % (95 % CI –41·6 %, 72·5 %), respectively, and decreased by 24·8 % (95 % CI –36·9, –9·8) and 10·2 % (95 % CI –37·1, 37·5) in the controlled analysis. After the 2014 tax decrease, the price of the indicator soft drink decreased by 23·6 % (95 % CI –26·0 %, –21·1 %), sweetened beverage imports increased by 4·5 % (95 % CI –39·5 %, 156·0 %) and sales of full-sugar soft drinks increased by 31 % (95 % CI –21 %, 243 %).Conclusions:The increased import tariffs on sweetened beverages appeared to be effective for reducing import volumes, but this was partly reversed by the reduced tax/tariff in 2014.

The study group of this research, which is planned to develop the Sustainable Scale of Earthquake Awareness, consists of the students studying at Duzce University in the academic year 2018-2019. 276 volunteer individuals (213 females, 63 males) participated to the research group determined by random sampling method. For confirmatory factor analysis, 434 female and 129 male volunteer students participated. 839 students, 647 of them were females (77,12%) and 192 of them were males (22,88%), supported the study. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis which is completed after testing the suitability of the data for analysis, the scale was constituted of three sub-factors consisting of 22 items. The factors that make up the scale explain 46,393% of the variance. The sub-factors of the scale were named based on the knowledge about the earthquake. The suitability of the obtained model was 0.072 for RMSEA; 0.90 for NFI, 0,89 for GFI, 0.063 for RMR and 0.86 for AGFI. As a result of the reliability analysis, the internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach alpha) of the scale was determined as 0.884. It is thought that this developed scale will provide support as a tool for educational purposes. It is recommended to carry out different researches that can help to investigate the awareness level about the earthquake with different variables. © 2021, International Electronic Journal of Environmental Education. This study served as a pilot to examine the practical implementation of the Welfare Quality® assessment protocol for cattle in dairy farms in Turkey. The study was carried out in the large-scale dairy farm of Ataturk University, in a free-stall-housed herd composed of Holstein, Brown Swiss and Simmental cattle. Whether the standards of the farm management programme and some of the welfare criteria chosen from the protocol were met was determined with the scoring method described in the Welfare Quality® publications. The somatic cell count (SCC) of the milk samples, and the avoidance distance and body condition score (BCS) of the animals were also determined and recorded. The body condition scores (BCS) of the Holstein, Simmental and Brown Swiss cattle were determined as 2.56, 3.16 and 3.88, respectively. Only 7% of the 53 cows had lameness, and none of the animals were evaluated as ‘resting a foot, standing on the edge of a step, displaying stepping (weight shifting) or showing reluctance to bear weight’. The animals were also evaluated based on some health indicators. The percentages of animals displaying nasal and ocular discharge were 16% and 9%, respectively. No clinical signs were recorded for hampered respiration, diarrhea or vulvar discharge. The mean SCC of the milk samples was (log 10) 4.43 cells/ml and below the European Union’s raw milk SCC threshold. In conclusion, according to the assessment based on Welfare Quality® criteria, the animal welfare level at the dairy farm of Ataturk University was scored as %70.92 and was considered to meet the relevant EU standards.

Ortaokul öğrencilerine yönelik STEAM’a Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği’nin geliştirilmesi amacıyla planlanan bu araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2018-2019 öğretim yılında Düzce ilinde öğrenim gören ortaokul öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Tesadüfi örneklem yöntemiyle belirlenen araştırma grubunda, toplam 1000 ortaokul öğrencisi çalışmaya katılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin öncelikli olarak analize uygunluğu incelendikten sonra, açımlayıcı faktör analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. AFA bulgularına göre, ölçeğin 40 maddeden oluşan beş boyuta sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ölçekteki tüm maddeler olumlu ifadelere sahiptir. Ölçeği oluşturan tüm faktörlerin ölçeğin % 47,71 varyansını açıkladığı belirlenmiştir. Ölçeğin alt boyutları, STEAM alanına uygun olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Daha sonra Doğrulayıcı Faktör analizi yapılarak modelin uygunluğu test edilmiştir. DFA’da elde edilen verilere göre; RMSEA 0,043; NFI 0,94; GFI 0,97, SRMR 0,049 ve AGFI 0,87 olarak bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin güvenirlik analizlerine göre tüm ölçeğin Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayısı ise 0,917 olarak belirlenmiştir. Geliştirilen bu ölçeğin, ortaokul seviyesinde öğrencilerin STEAM’a yönelik tutumlarını ölçmek amacıyla kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu sayede öğrencilerin bu alanlara yönelik tutumlarının belirlenmesiyle farklı amaçlarla yapılacak çalışmalarda kullanılması önerilmektedir.

This study analyses the role of knowledge transfers via bilateral foreign direct investment (FDI) among 31 Asian economies. We make three distinct contributions to the literature on the drivers of FDI by: (1) applying the knowledge-capital model to FDI among Asian economies for the first time, using a comprehensive data set, and comparing it to an empirical gravity-type model of FDI; (2) conducting model selection tests to choose between alternative empirical specifications and estimation methods; and (3) modelling both the FDI participation decision and the decision on the amount of FDI. The main findings are: (1) while vertical FDI, driven by seeking low-cost unskilled labour, appears to be the dominant type of intra-Asian FDI, overall the knowledge-capital model is not supported by the data; and (2) conventional gravity variables (e.g., size, distance, common language) provide a better explanation of intra-Asian FDI and, therefore, a more suitable vehicle for future research.

This qualitative study aims to determine the knowledge and opinions of 6th-grade students about organ donation. In the 2018-2019 academic year, a total of 25 sixth grade students from a secondary school in Düzce participated in the study. The participants were administered open-ended questions which were created by scanning the relevant literature. Data analysis was performed by systematically examining the answers given to these questions with the content analysis technique. Findings revealed that the majority of the students (60%) had positive views regarding organ donation. While students expressed their positive attitudes towards organ donation with the words “lifesaving”, “I want to do good" and “It is necessary because people need it”; some of them did not want to donate organs, stating expressions such as “I am afraid” and “my organs should remain in my body". Some of the students were undecided because their decisions may vary depending on the situation, using sentences such as “whether I donate or not depends on the recipient”. Educational researchers could develop an instrument to collect data from larger samples to investigate the knowledge and views of middle school students about organ donation., Bu çalışmanın amacı ortaokul 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin organ bağışı hakkındaki bilgi düzeyleri ve görüşlerinin tespit edilmesidir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya 2018-2019 öğretim yılında Düzce ilinde bulunan bir ortaokuldaki 6. sınıfta öğrenim gören toplam 25 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından ilgili alan yazın taranarak oluşturulmuş açık uçlu sorulardan oluşmuş bir soru formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi bu sorulara verilen cevapların içerik analiz tekniğiyle sistematik bir biçimde incelenmesiyle yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerden çoğunluğunun (%60) organ bağışı yapma konusuna olumlu baktığı belirlenmiştir. Öğrenciler organ bağışına yönelik bu olumlu tutumlarını “hayat kurtarma”, “iyilik yapmak isterim” ve “insanların ihtiyacı olduğu için gereklidir.” cümleleriyle ifade ederken; “korkarım” ve “organlarım benim bedenimde kalmalı” gibi ifadelerle organ bağışında bulunmak istemeyen öğrenciler de bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca öğrenciler arasında “alıcı kişiye göre verip vermeme durumum değişir” gibi cümleler kullanarak kararlarının duruma bağlı olarak değişebileceğini belirtenler de bulunmaktadır. Eğitim araştırmacıları, organ bağışına dair ortaokul öğrencilerinin bilgi ve görüşlerinin daha büyük örneklemlerden veri toplanarak ortaya koyulabilmesi için ölçek geliştirebilirler.
