Emotion plays a significant role in interpersonal communication and also improving social life. In recent years, facial emotion recognition is highly adopted in developing human-computer interfaces (HCI) and humanoid robots. In this work, a triangulation method for extracting a novel set of geometric features is proposed to classify six emotional expressions (sadness, anger, fear, surprise, disgust, and happiness) using computer-generated markers. The subject's face is recognized by using Haar-like features. A mathematical model has been applied to positions of eight virtual markers in a defined location on the subject's face in an automated way. Five triangles are formed by manipulating eight markers' positions as an edge of each triangle. Later, these eight markers are uninterruptedly tracked by Lucas- Kanade optical flow algorithm while subjects' articulating facial expressions. The movement of the markers during facial expression directly changes the property of each triangle. The area of the triangle (AoT), Inscribed circle circumference (ICC), and the Inscribed circle area of a triangle (ICAT) are extracted as features to classify the facial emotions. These features are used to distinguish six different facial emotions using various types of machine learning algorithms. The inscribed circle area of the triangle (ICAT) feature gives a maximum mean classification rate of 98.17% using a Random Forest (RF) classifier compared to other features and classifiers in distinguishing emotional expressions.

In the context of global gyrokinetic simulations of turbulence using a particle-in-cell framework, verifying the delta-f assumption with a fixed background distribution becomes challenging when determining quasi-steady state profiles corresponding to given sources over long time scales, where plasma profiles can evolve significantly. The advantage of low relative sampling noise afforded by the delta-f scheme is shown to be retained by considering the background as a time-evolving Maxwellian with time-dependent density and temperature profiles. Implementation of this adaptive scheme to simulate electrostatic collisionless flux-driven turbulence in tokamak plasmas show small and nonincreasing sampling noise levels, which would otherwise increase indefinitely with a stationary background scheme. Classroom EEG recordings classification has the capacity to significantly enhance comprehension and learning by revealing complex neural patterns linked to various cognitive processes. Electroencephalography (EEG) in academic settings allows researchers to study brain activity while students are in class, revealing learning preferences. The purpose of this study was to develop a machine learning framework to automatically classify different learning-style EEG patterns in real classroom environments. Method: In this study, a set of EEG features was investigated, including statistical features, fractal dimension, higher-order spectra, entropy, and a combination of all sets. Three different machine learning classifiers, random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), and multilayer perceptron (MLP), were used to evaluate the performance. The proposed framework was evaluated on the real classroom EEG dataset, involving EEG recordings featuring different teaching blocks: reading, discussion, lecture, and video. Results: The findings revealed that statistical features are the most sensitive feature metric in distinguishing learning patterns from EEG. The statistical features and RF classifier method tested in this study achieved an overall best average accuracy of 78.45% when estimated by fivefold cross-validation. Conclusions: Our results suggest that EEG time domain statistics have a substantial role and are more reliable for internal state classification. The disease of malaria, transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes, is highly contagious, resulting in numerous deaths across various regions. Microscopic examination of blood cells remains one of the most accurate methods for malaria diagnosis, but it is time‐consuming and can produce inaccurate results occasionally. Due to machine learning and deep learning advances in medical diagnosis, improved diagnostic accuracy can now be achieved while costs can be reduced compared to conventional microscopy methods. This work utilizes an open‐source dataset with 26 161 blood smear images in RGB for malaria detection. Our preprocessing resized the original dimensions of the images into 64 × 64 due to the limitations in computational complexity in developing embedded systems‐based malaria detection. We present a novel embedded system approach using 119 154 trainable parameters in a lightweight 17‐layer SqueezeNet model for the automatic detection of malaria. Incredibly, the model is only 1.72 MB in size. An evaluation of the model's performance on the original NIH malaria dataset shows that it has exceptional accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores of 96.37%, 95.67%, 97.21%, and 96.44%, respectively. Based on a modified dataset, the results improved further to 99.71% across all metrics. Compared to current deep learning models, our model significantly outperforms them for malaria detection, making it ideal for embedded systems. This model has also been rigorously tested on the Jetson Nano B01 edge device, demonstrating a rapid single image prediction time of only 0.24 s. The fusion of deep learning with embedded systems makes this research a crucial step toward improving malaria diagnosis. Lung cancer, the second most common type of cancer worldwide, presents significant health challenges. Detecting this disease early is essential for improving patient outcomes and simplifying treatment. In this study, we propose a hybrid framework that combines deep learning (DL) with quantum computing to enhance the accuracy of lung cancer detection using chest radiographs (CXR) and computerized tomography (CT) images. Our system utilizes pre-trained models for feature extraction and quantum circuits for classification, achieving state-of-the-art performance in various metrics. Not only does our system achieve an overall accuracy of 92.12%, it also excels in other crucial performance measures, such as sensitivity (94%), specificity (90%), F1-score (93%), and precision (92%). These results demonstrate that our hybrid approach can more accurately identify lung cancer signatures compared to traditional methods. Moreover, the incorporation of quantum computing enhances processing speed and scalability, making our system a promising tool for early lung cancer screening and diagnosis. By leveraging the strengths of quantum computing, our approach surpasses traditional methods in terms of speed, accuracy, and efficiency. This study highlights the potential of hybrid computational technologies to transform early cancer detection, paving the way for wider clinical applications and improved patient care outcomes.
