OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of posterior femoral cutaneous nerve (PFCN) lesions in patients referred to the electrophysiology laboratory with an initial diagnosis of sciatic nerve lesion following injection, and to create awareness that PFCN lesions can occur following intramuscular injections administered to the gluteal region. METHODS Fifty-seven patients who were referred to the electrophysiology laboratory because of injection neuropathy were identified from the hospital records. In addition to the routine electrophysiological examination, PFCN sensory conduction study was performed according to the technique of Dumitru and Nelson. The scores of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs Pain Scale were recorded for all participants. RESULTS Of the 21 participants who agreed to participate in the study, 2 patients were diagnosed with PFCN lesions, one of them had isolated complete PFCN lesion, and another had it accompanied by sciatic nerve lesion. Patients with PFCN lesions had a lower body mass index and a higher HADS score than patients with sciatic nerve lesions (p = 0.01, p = 0.04, respectively). CONCLUSIONS As correct diagnosis is the priority starting point for successful treatment, clinicians should plan examinations taking into consideration the fact that PFCN lesions can occur following gluteal region injection.

The study aims to investigate the relationship between abdominal muscle activity and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the lumbar muscles and assess their role in the functional assessment of patients with chronic non-specific low back pain (CNSLBP).142 patients with CNSLBP were included in this study. Disability levels were evaluated with the Roland-Morris Low Back Pain and Disability Questionnaire. The functional assessments of the participants were evaluated with a 6-minute walk test. Abdominal muscle activity was measured using a pressure biofeedback unit. The CSA of the bilateral multifidus, erector spinae, and psoas muscles were measured T2-weighted MRI images at the L2-L5 levels.Significant correlations were found between the abdominal muscle activity during the posterior pelvic tilt movement and the CSA of the erector spinae muscle at the L4 and L5 levels, and the psoas muscle at the L2-L5 levels (correlation coefficient range from 0.32 to 0.48). Abdominal muscle activity yielded a significant additional contribution to the variance on the functional assessment (RThe relationship of abdominal muscle activity with lumbar muscles and the contribution of muscle activities to functional assessment should be considered in the management of patients with CNSLBP.

The aim of this research is to reveal the views of postgraduate students on postgraduate education. In this context, postgraduate students' reasons for taking postgraduate education, their expectations from postgraduate education, their communication problems in graduate education and their views on evaluation in graduate education were also revealed. In addition, it is aimed to reveal students' perceptions about postgraduate education. Case study design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 20 students studying at different graduate levels in 11 different universities in the 2021-2022 academic year. Maximum variation sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, was preferred in the sample selection. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis method. According to the results of the research, it has been revealed that the reasons for doing postgraduate education differ, and that doctoral students have more views on this subject than graduate students. While it was revealed that the expectations of postgraduate students regarding postgraduate education were mostly met before the start of postgraduate education, it was determined that the expectations of doctoral students regarding postgraduate education were met more than those of postgraduate students. It has been revealed that students mostly have communication problems in postgraduate education, and postgraduate students have more communication problems than doctoral students in this process. In addition, it has been determined that they have the opinion that the evaluation process in graduate education should be process-oriented rather than product-oriented for students. It has been determined that postgraduate students have a positive perception of postgraduate education. In line with the results, suggestions have been put forward to eliminate the problems that graduate students have experienced during their education and to develop policies to ensure that they have a positive perception towards graduate education.

Bu araştırmada Halk Eğitim Merkezinde görev yapmakta olan kurum personelinin yönetim hakkındaki metaforlarının ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma alanını 2018-2019 Eğitim Öğretim yılında İzmir ili Buca ilçesine bağlı Halk Eğitim Merkezi’nde görev yapmakta olan 33 kurum personeli oluşturmaktadır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu araştırmanın deseni olarak da olgu bilim (fenomenoloji) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, nitel araştırma yönteminde kullanılan ve araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile elde edilmiştir. Çalışma bulgularına göre, araştırmaya katılan halk eğitim merkezi personeli, halk eğitim yönetimine ilişkin 24 farklı metafor üretmişlerdir. Üretilen metaforlar temalar halinde gruplandırılmıştır. Halk eğitim merkezi personelinin üretmiş olduğu metaforlar, “lider, aile, besleyici, birleştirici, sorun çözücü, fedakârlık ve çalışkanlık” olmak üzere toplam 6 adet temada toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları en fazla “birleştirici” teması altında metafor üretmişlerdir. Halk eğitim personellerinin ürettiği metaforlara göre kurum personelleri halk eğitim yönetimini en fazla sırasıyla, ağaç, aile ve ev metaforları ile temsil etmişlerdir. Halk eğitim yönetimine ilişkin üretilen metaforların olumlu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Halk eğitim personeli halk eğitim yönetimini kendi ailesinden biri gibi, fedakâr, birleştirici, besleyici bir kurum olarak görmektedirler. Ayrıca toplumsal sorunları çözme bakımından birçok unsuru bir araya getirerek sorunları çözen, çalışkan bir lider olarak gördükleri tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan personellerin yönetime ilişkin üretmiş oldukları metaforlar cinsiyetleri, meslek türleri ve yaşları açısından farklılaştığı sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır.

Objective: Long-lasting care process can result in the withdrawal of the mother with children diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP) from the social environment and cultural activities while leading also to physical exhaustion. The present study evaluates the levels of depression and anxiety, suicidal ideation, and behaviors in mothers with children diagnosed with CP.Methods: The study included 57 healthy mothers with children aged 2–16 years who have been diagnosed with CP and 41 healthy mothers with healthy children as a control group. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI), and the Suicidal Behavior Scale (SBS) were administered to all participants.Results: The sociodemographic status of the mothers of children with CP was similar to that of the mothers with healthy children (p>0.05). Bu araştırmada, Bilim ve Sanat Merkezinde (BİLSEM) öğrenim görmekte olan özel yetenekli öğrencilerin yaratıcı yazma beceri düzeylerinin cinsiyet ve yetenek alanı değişkenlerine göre incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırma nedensel karşılaştırma türü bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu BİLSEM’de öğrenim gören resim, müzik ve genel yetenek alanlarında özel yetenekli olduğu tespit edilen 85 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veriler, öğrencilerden alınan yazılı anlatımların değerlendirilmesinde Yaratıcı Yazma Dereceli Puanlama Anahtarı (rubric) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde bağımsız gruplar için t-testi ve Kruskal Wallis-H testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda özel yetenekli erkek öğrencilerin, yaratıcı yazma düzeyleri kız öğrencilerden anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksektir. Ayrıca resim alanında yetenekli öğrencilerin yaratıcı yazma düzeyleri genel yetenek alanındakilerden daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Bu bulgular, cinsiyetin ve yetenek alanının özel yetenekli öğrencilerin yaratıcı yazma düzeyleri üzerinde bir etkiye sahip olduğu sonucunu ortaya çıkarmıştır.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sınıf öğretmenlerinin yaratıcılık düzeylerini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Adıyaman ili Kâhta ilçesinde 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim yılında 8 ilkokulda görev yapan 189 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada, sınıf öğretmenlerinin yaratıcılık düzeylerini belirlemek için “Ne Kadar Yaratıcısınız?” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada yaratıcılık ölçeğinin güvenirliği .86 olarak bulunmuştur. Verilerin analizinde, bağımsız gruplar t-testi, Mann Whitney-U ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) testleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucuna göre, sınıf öğretmenlerinin yaratıcılık düzeyleri ile cinsiyetleri, medeni durumları, anne ve baba eğitim düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken, öğretmenlerin mesleki kıdemleri, çocukluklarının geçtiği yerleşim birimleri, kitap okuma alışkanlıkları durumuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur. Aynı zamanda araştırma sonuçlarına göre, sınıf öğretmenlerinin büyük çoğunluğunun düşük düzeyde yaratıcı olduğu görülmektedir.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), which leads to cognitive, physical, emotional and behavioral deficits according to the severity of trauma, is a disability with high morbidity and mortality. In addition to primary effects of TBI, direct trauma to the face, neck, and chest also contributes to increased morbidity. Recovery in swallowing functions in TBI patients is often parallel with recovery in functional daily activities. Herein, contrary to that expectation, we present a TBI case with persistent dysphagia symptoms lasting for even 1.5 years after trauma, despite the fact that she gained independence in dailylife activities under supervision.

Peripheral nervous system complications such as acute demyelinating polyradiculopathy and mononeuropathy may rarely develop after substance use. A 27-year-old man used illegal drugs the day before his admission to the emergency service. Initially, he was suspected for rhabdomyolysis, due to elevated blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, myoglobin, and creatine kinase levels. On Day 4, generalized edema and flask paralysis were noted in both upper limbs. The patient was diagnosed with bilateral brachial pan-plexopathy based on electrophysiological study results. He underwent a rehabilitation program. After eight months, repeated electrophysiological study revealed a significant improvement in all bilateral upper limb muscles, except for the right abductor pollicis brevis and abductor digiti minimi muscles. The underlying cause of bilateral brachial pan-plexopathy was rhabdomyolysis secondary to substance use. In conclusion, substance use in patients with non-traumatic plexopathy should always be questioned.

Background: Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a clinical condition with many symptoms such as chronic generalized pain, fatigue, sleep disorder, cognitive dysfunction and depressive mood. Management of FMS is difficult and the most important component is regular exercise.1 In this syndrome, patients generally have compliance and motivation problems in maintenance of exercises. In recent years, exercises, with fun and game components, have been prescribed to increase patient compliance.2 Motion-controlled video games targeting virtual reality are examples of these exercises.3 Objectives: To investigate the effect of motion controlled video games on pain, functionality, cardiopulmonary capacity and quality of life in fibromyalgic women. Methods: Forty women (> 18 years) who have FMS were included in study. Patients were randomized into study and control groups. Control group performed aerobic exercise (cycling, 3 days/week, 20 minutes/day) for 4 weeks. Study group performed virtual reality exercise (Volleyball, Microsoft Xbox Kinect®, 3 days/week, 15 minutes/day) together with cycling exercise. After the four week supervised exercise program, both groups received the same home exercise program for four weeks. All patients were evaluated at baseline, 4th and 8th weeks. Primary outcome measure was Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire. Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Symptom Severity Scale, EuroQol-Quality of Life/Visual Analogue Scale (EQ5D-QoL/VAS) and 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT) were used as secondary outcome measures. Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) was used for patient satisfaction. T-test was used to compare demographic data between two groups. Repeated measures ANOVA was used in evaluation of intra-group efficiency of treatment. Treatment group and time interaction was evaluated by two-way analysis of variance. We calculated 20 patients per group, in order to find 14% minimal clinical difference in Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire with 80% power and 0.05 error rate (Tip 1 error).4 Results: All patients completed supervised exercise program (4 weeks). 34 patients (17 study group, 17 control group) were evaluated at the 8th week. Age, body mass index, education status, comorbidities and drug use were similar in both groups (p> 0.05). Background Fibromyalgia is the prototypical central sensitivity syndrome which is associated with increased sensitivity to pain and other stimuli. Somatosensory temporal discrimination (STD) is the perception of two discrete stimuli applied at short intervals as separate. The evaluation of STD ability essentially provides information about central processing of sensory stimuli.1 Objectives In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether STD ability, which requires an intact central sensory processing, is altered in patients with fibromyalgia. Methods Fifteen patients with fibromyalgia and 15 healthy subjects participated in the study. Demographic characteristics of participants and severity for fatigue, sleep quality, cognitive symptoms, somatic symptoms and health-related quality of life in fibromyalgia patients were recorded. STD thresholds were measured from the dorsum of the dominant hands of the participants by using a constant current stimulator.2 Results Patients with fibromyalgia had higher STD thresholds than healthy subjects (table 1). There were significant correlations between STD thresholds and pain intensity, fibromyalgia impact questionnaire scores and symptom severity scale scores in fibromyalgia group (p=0.006, r=0.68; p=0.037, r=0.54; p=0.017, r=0.61 respectively). Arastirma tarama modelinde betimsel bir calismadir. Arastirmada, “California Elestirel Dusunme Egilimi Olcegi kullanilmistir. Olcegin cronbach alfa guvenirlik katsayisi .86 olarak bulunmustur. Arastirmaya katilan sinif ogretmenlerinin elestirel dusunme egilimlerinin dusuk duzeyde oldugu sonucu cikmistir. Cinsiyet ve anne egitim duzeyinin elestirel dusunme egilimleri uzerinde anlamli bir etkisinin olmadigi saptanmistir. Arastirmanin bir diger sonucuna gore evli ogretmenlerin bekâr ogretmenlere gore daha acik fikirli, sistematik ve dogruyu arama konusunda elestirel dusunme egilimlerinin daha yuksek oldugu ortaya cikmistir. Arastirmaya katilan ogretmenlerin mesleki kidemleri arttikca daha analitik dusundukleri, daha acik fikirli olduklari ve sistematik olduklari, dogruyu arama konusunda daha egilimli olduklari belirlenmistir. Ayni zamanda buyuk yerlesim yerlerinde cocuklugunu geciren ogretmenlerin analitik ve sistematik dusunme egilimlerinin yuksek oldugu ve daha cok kendine guvendikleri sonucu ortaya cikmistir. Ayni zamanda arastirmaya katilan ogretmenlerin elestirel dusunme egilimi uzerinde kitap okuma aliskanliginin onemli bir etkisi oldugu tespit edilmistir. Arastirmaya katilan ogretmenlerin baba egitim duzeyi azaldikca daha analitik dusundukleri, daha acik fikirli ve sistematik olduklari sonucu ortaya cikmistir.

Objectives This study aims to adapt the Neurobehavioral Rating Scale-revised form (NBRS-R) for Turkish traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients and to investigate the inter-rater agreement of the Turkish revised scale. Patients and methods A total of 45 patients (36 males, 9 females; mean age 31.1±13.0 years; range 18 to 60 years) with TBI were included in this study between September 2013 and August 2014. A semi-structured interview was set up for Turkish patients using a multidisciplinary approach (physiatrist, psychiatrist, neurologist and psychologist) with the participation of four rehabilitation centers. Questions were prepared for each of the 29 items, based on the recommendations of the original NBRS-R form. Four different interviewers from the four centers applied this form to a total of 45 TBI patients. Results The items evaluated by intra-class correlation coefficient showed satisfactory stability and the reliability of the items ranged from moderate to very good. Conclusion The NBRS-R form can be suggested to provide a reliable and easily reproducible evaluation method of neurobehavioral deficits in TBI patients who speak Turkish.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sınıf öğretmenlerinin eleştirel düşünme eğilimleri ile yaratıcılık düzeylerinin bazı değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Adıyaman ili Kâhta ilçesinde 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim yılında 8 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 189 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada, sınıf öğretmenlerin eleştirel düşünme eğilimlerini ölçmek için `California Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilimi Ölçeği (CCTDI)` ve yaratıcılık düzeylerini belirlemek için `Ne Kadar Yaratıcısınız? (How Creative Are You?)` ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilim Ölçeğinin güvenirliği 0.86 olarak bulunmuştur. Yaratıcılık ölçeğinin güvenirliği ise 0.86 olarak bulunmuştur. Verilerin analizinde, bağımsız gruplar t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA), Scheffe, Tukey HSD ve LSD testleri kullanılmıştır. Bununla birlikte sınıf öğretmenlerinin eleştirel düşünme eğilimleri ve yaratıcılık düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olup olmadığını belirlemek için ise çoklu regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucuna göre, sınıf öğretmenlerinin eleştirel düşünme eğilimleri ile yaratıcılık düzeyleri arasında yüksek seviyede pozitif bir ilişki vardır. Sınıf öğretmenlerinin eleştirel düşünme eğilimleri cinsiyetleri, eğitim durumları ve anne eğitim düzeyi açısından anlamlı bir fark göstermezken, medeni durumları, kıdemleri, çocukluklarının geçtiği yerleşim yeri, kitap okuma alışkanlıkları ve baba eğitim durumlarına göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark ortaya çıkmıştır. Sınıf öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğunun (%55) ise eleştirel düşünme eğiliminin `düşük` düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sınıf öğretmenlerinin yaratıcılık düzeyleri ile cinsiyetleri, medeni durumları, eğitim durumları, anne ve baba eğitim düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken, kıdemleri, çocukluklarının geçtiği yerleşim birimleri, kitap okuma alışkanlıkları durumuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur. Aynı zamanda araştırma sonuçlarına göre, sınıf öğretmenlerinin büyük çoğunluğunun düşük düzeyde yaratıcı olduğu görülmektedir. The main purpose of this research is to examine primary school teachers' critical thinking disposition and creativity levels in terms of difference variable. Study group in this research consist of 189 primary school teachers who are give education at the eight primary schools in Kâhta district of Adıyaman city in 2015-2016 school year. The research is a survey model and descriptive study. In the research, to evaluate students' critical thinking disposition `California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory` is used and to evaluate students' levels of creativity a scale named `How Creative Are You?` is used. The reliability of the critical thinking disposition scale, applied to primary school teachers, is found as 0.86. The reliability of the creativity scale, applied to primary school teachers, is found as 0.86. In the research, t-test, ANNOVA, Scheffe, Tukey HSD, LSD and Multiple Regression analysis tests are used in the analysis of the data. According to research results, there is positive significant relationship at high level between the primary school teachers' critical thinking dispositions and creativity levels. There is no meaningful difference between primary school teachers' critical thinking dispositions based on their gender, their educational status and mothers' educational background level whereas there is meaningful difference between primary school teachers' critical thinking dispositions based on marital status, seniority, places where they grown up, reading book habit and their fathers' educational background.
