Forest stock volume (FSV) stands as an important indicator in evaluating the potential for carbon sequestration. It is crucial for forest resource management at local, regional, and national scales. In order to achieve an accurate estimation of FSV, this article takes Mengyin County, Shandong Province, China as the research area, builds a random forest (RF) model for four tree species based on airborne Lidar data, and forms a monitoring system of "individual tree - grid - county" granularities. The results demonstrated that all four models exhibited excellent generalization capabilities, with no signs of overfitting. In the test phase, the R2 of the poplar and pine models exceeded 0.9, while the R2 of the cypress model was 0.81, and the rRMSE was controlled within 20%, indicating that the fitting effect of the three tree species models was better; the accuracy of the robinia pseudoacacia model was relatively poor, with R2 of 0.60 and rRMSE of 20.60%. This study provides a feasible method for estimating forest stock volume within the county, which provides strong technical support for forest resource management and planning, and helps promote sustainable forestry development.

The realization of brazing between the TiZrTaHfNb refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA) and zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic is of great importance in expanding the application of metal-ceramic composite parts. In this study, reliable brazed joints were achieved using a Ti–28Ni eutectic filler. The typical interfacial microstructure and the effect of brazing temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties were thoroughly discussed. The results indicated the formation of complex oxides on the ZrO2 ceramic side, including Ti2O, Ni2Ti4O and (Hf, Ta, Zr)O2. Additionally, the RHEA substrate near the brazing seam underwent a transformation from a single BCC phase to double BCC phases, which included a TaNb-rich BCC-1 phase and a Zr-rich BCC-2 phase. The formation of the double BCC phases was caused by the spinodal decomposition. As the brazing temperature rose, the thickness of the oxides layer slightly increased and the double BCC phases formed from the beginning and progressively coarsened. The maximum room shear strength was 124.1 MPa when the joint was obtained at 1040 °C for 10 min. The alternating distribution interlocking structure between MO2 whiskers and Ni2Ti4O by in-situ reaction played a vital role in enhancing the interface strength.

Abstract Background The extraction of impacted mandibular third molars might cause large bone defects in the distal area of second molars. A new strategy was innovatively employed here combining autologous bone, Bio-Oss, concentrated growth factors (CGF) gel and CGF membrane for bone repair, and the present study aimed at exploring safety as well as short- and long-term efficacy of this new protocol clinically. Materials and methods A total of 66 participants were enrolled in this randomized single-blind clinical trial, and randomly allocated to control group (only blood clots), test A group (autogenous bone, Bio-Oss with barrier membrane) and test B group (autogenous bone, Bio-Oss, CGF gel with CGF membrane). The postoperative outcomes including PoSSe scale, periodontal probing depth (PD), degree of gingival recession and computed tomography measurements were assessed at 3rd, 6th, 12th month. A p-value 0.05). Conclusion Both two test groups could achieve stable long-term efficacy on bone defect repair. The use of CGF gel and CGF membrane could accelerate early-stage bone repair, alleviate short-term pain after surgery, reduce long-term probing depth and relieve economic cost for patients. This new bone repair protocol is worthy of promoting by clinicians. Trial registration This study was registered with the identification number ChiCTR2300068466 on 20/02/2023 at Chinese Clinical Trial Registry. Also, it was ethically approved from the institutional ethics committee at the Tongren Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China (No:2023-010-01), and has been conducted in accordance to the guidelines of the declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants in the study.

Abstract Background The transitional period from hospital to home is vital for stroke patients, but it poses serious challenges. Good self-management ability can optimize disease outcomes. However, stroke patients in China have a low level of self-management ability during the transitional period, and a lack of effective support may be the reason. With the rapid development of technology, using wearable monitors to achieve real-time and individualized support may be the key to solving this problem. This study uses a randomized controlled trial design to assess the efficacy of using wearable technology to realize real-time and individualized self-management support in stroke patients’ self-management behavior during the transitional period following discharge from hospital. Methods This parallel-group randomized controlled trial will be conducted in two hospitals and patients’ homes. A total of 183 adult stroke patients will be enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to three groups in a 1:1:1 ratio. The smartwatch intervention group (n = 61) will receive Real-time and Individualized Self-management Support (RISS) program + routine care, the wristband group (n = 61) will wear a fitness tracker (self-monitoring) + routine care, and the control group (n = 61) will receive routine stroke care. The intervention will last for 6 months. The primary outcomes are neurological function status, self-management behavior, quality of life, biochemical indicators, recurrence rate, and unplanned readmission rate. Secondary outcomes are resilience, patient activation, psychological status, and caregiver assessments. The analysis is intention-to-treat. The intervention effect will be evaluated at baseline (T0), 2 months after discharge (T1), 3 months after discharge (T2), and 6 months after discharge (T3). Discussion The cloud platform designed in this study not only has the function of real-time recording but also can push timely solutions when patients have abnormal conditions, as well as early warnings or alarms. This study could also potentially help patients develop good self-management habits through resilience theory, wearable devices, and individualized problem–solution library of self-management which can lay the foundation for long-term maintenance and continuous improvement of good self-management behavior in the future. Trial registration The ethics approval has been granted by the Ethics Committee of West China Hospital, Sichuan University (2022–941). All patients will be informed of the study details and sign a written informed consent form before enrollment. The research results will be reported in conferences and peer-reviewed publications. The trial registration number is ChiCTR2300070384 . Registered on 11 April 2023.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc is a fibrocartilage tissue located between the mandibular condyle and the glenoid eminence, which is central to the TMJ functions. The TMJ disc is susceptible to irreparable degenerative changes or post-traumatic injuries, which can lead to the development of a disc-related disease. Scaffold-based tissue engineering offers the potential for regeneration and replacement of the damaged TMJ disc. The present review describes the biomaterials and manufacturing technologies used in scaffold-based TMJ disc engineering strategies and comprehensively evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy. As an understanding of the extracellular matrix (ECM) is fundamental for succesful TMJ disc tissue engineering, this review defines the key properties and roles of the TMJ disc ECM. Compared with the natural disc, the mechanical properties of the tissue-engineered TMJ disc are not satisfactory. Additionally, the in vivo durability of engineered discs and their long-term impact on the entire TMJ remain to be studied, especially in large-animal preclinical trials.

The increasing level of harmonics in the power grid, driven by a substantial presence of coupled inverter-based energy resources (IBRs), poses a new challenge to power grid transient stability. This paper presents the findings from experiments and analytical studies on the impact of the topological configuration of coupled IBRs on the level of power flow harmonics in a distribution grid: (i) our findings report that the impact of grid topology on harmonics is nonlinear, which is in contrast to the common perception that the power grid operates as a large linear low-pass filter for harmonics; (ii) importantly, this study highlights that the influence of the topological configuration of inverters on the reduction of system-level harmonics is more substantial than the effect of line impedance, emphasizing the significance of grid topological configuration; (iii) furthermore, the observed reduction in harmonics is attributed to a harmonic cancellation effect achieved through self-compensation by all the coupled inverters without affecting the active power flow in the power grid. These findings propose a new approach to limit the penetration of complex IBR harmonics in the power grid from a system-wide perspective. This approach significantly differs from the component-level or localized solutions used today, such as inverter control, power filtering, and transformer tap changes.

Ni-WC composite coatings with different rare earth CeO2 additions were prepared on the substrate of 45 steel by induction heating. The wear resistance, corrosion resistance and resistance to thermal fatigue of the coating were checked with a self-made friction and wear tester, a medium-sized salt spray corrosion tank and a box-type resistance furnace. Meanwhile, the microstructure and WC morphology of each coating were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy to assist in the analysis of performance changes. The results show that the 0,5 / % CeO2 content helps to refine the grain size and the WC morphology, and that the 0,5 / % CeO2 content coating has the highest wear resistance, corrosion resistance and resistance to thermal fatigue.

Getting Ni-WC composite coatings with different rare earth CeO2 additions on the substrate of 45 steel by induction heating; testing the surface hardness and cross-section microhardness of the coatings with Rockwell hardness tester and microhardness tester; meanwhile analyzing the microstructure and WC morphology of the coatings by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), in order to find the best amount of CeO2 in the coatings. The results show that the 0,5 / % content of CeO2 helps to improve the interfusion bonding between the coating and the substrate, and to refine the grain size, homogenize the composition and increase the hardness of the coating.

Abstract Background Community resilience, which fully reflects the ability of communities to resist, absorb, recover or adapt to disasters, has attracted international attention. Nurses are an important force in disaster prevention, relief and postdisaster reconstruction. This study aims to test the current level of community resilience in Dujiangyan city, which was seriously damaged by the Wenchuan earthquake, and analyze the causes. Methods Community data from 952 residents, 574 families, 5 health care institutions and 12 communities in Dujiangyan city were collected by using stratified, cluster, map and systematic sampling methods. A new community resilience evaluation system from the perspective of nursing was used to test individual, family, health care and environmental resilience. Results In Dujiangyan city, average scores were obtained for community resilience (3.93 ± 0.12), individual resilience (4.07 ± 0.64), family resilience (4.07 ± 0.6), health care resilience (3.84 ± 0.33) and community environment resilience (3.69 ± 0.46). Conclusions The urban communities in Dujiangyan city had acceptable resilience, with good family and individual resilience and medium health care and community environment resilience, but environmental resilience had the lowest score. Because conditions and resilience levels varied among the communities, targeted measures should be taken to improve resilience based on population characteristics, management, professional organizations, hardware and software facilities.

Abstract Background Fear of falling (FoF) and physical activity (PA) are important psychological and behavioral factors associated with falls. No instrument quantifies the link between these two factors to evaluate the risk of falls. We aimed to design a scale linking FoF with PA (Composite Activities-specific Risk of Falls Scale, CARFS) for people with various disability levels. Methods First, we designed a questionnaire comprising 40 balance-related activities from the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) for a pilot survey. Second, participants were interviewed about their activities-specific FoF degree and PA frequency. The participants comprised 30 community-dwelling older adults, hospitalized patients with strokes, and those with spinal cord injuries, each with different disability levels. Third, the content validity of the items was evaluated twice by 12 experienced rehabilitation professionals: one based on experience and the other on the survey responses. Items with a higher than moderate relevance in both evaluations were included in the CARFS. The panel of professionals discussed and voted on the contribution of FoF and PA on the CARF score. Finally, the scale sensitivity in distinguishing disability levels was analyzed to evaluate the population suitability to the CARFS. Results The CARFS included 14 activities. A five-point Likert scale was used to quantify degree of FoF (A) and frequency of PA (B). The CARF score (C), which was determined using the eq. C = A+(4-B) + A × B/2, reflected sensitivity to disability levels in most items. Conclusions The CARFS has strong content validity for measuring risk of falls in relation to the FoF and PA of people with various disability levels. It has a potential to provide a guide for designing individualized exercise- and behavior-focused fall prevention programs and enable the precise trtrun 0acking of program effectiveness as a multidimensional outcome measure.

A triazine-based functional monomer (AET) was synthesized via a nucleophilic substitution reaction between cyanuric chloride and 3-aminophenylacetylene. The comprehensive properties were superior, including simple synthesis conditions, moderate curing conditions, excellent thermal properties, and good mechanical properties of laminated composites comprised of AET and quartz fiber. The curing reaction showed high reactivity and low temperature, an activation energy of 106.33 kJ・mol–1 and cure exothermic peak between 140 and 250 °C with an enthalpy of 780 J・g–1. The decomposition temperature at 5% mass loss was 521 °C, the char yield at 800 °C was 78% and the glass transition temperature was 470 °C. Moreover, QF/P-AET laminated composite possessed good mechanical properties. The flexural strength was 364.94 Mpa and the interlaminar shear strength was 30.4 MPa at room temperature (RT); especially at 300 and 500 °C, the composite still displayed a high mechanical strength retention of up to 66 and 88, and 45 and 42%, respectively which is unachievable for cyanate and aryl acetylene resins. All above attracting properties make AET a good candidate as a matrix for high performance polymeric composite materials.

Nitrous acid (HONO) in the core city of the Central Plains Economic Region in China was measured using an ambient ion monitor from 9 to 31 January 2019. Measurement time intervals were classified into the following periods in accordance with the daily mean values of PM2.5: clean days (CDs), polluted days (PDs), and severely polluted days (SPDs). The HONO concentrations during CD, PD, and SPD periods were 1.2, 2.3, and 3.7 ppbv, respectively. The contributions of the homogeneous reaction, heterogeneous conversion, and direct emissions to HONO sources varied under different pollution levels. The mean values of the net HONO production of the homogeneous reaction (POH+NOnet) in CD, PD, and SPD periods were 0.13, 0.26, and 0.56 ppbv h−1, respectively. The average conversions of NO2 (CHONO) in CD, PD, and SPD periods were 0.72×10-2, 0.64×10-2, and 1.54×10-2 h−1, respectively, indicating that the heterogeneous conversion of NO2 was less important than the homogeneous reaction. Furthermore, the net production of the homogeneous reaction may have been the main factor in the increase of HONO under high-NOx conditions (i.e., when the concentration of NO was higher than that of NO2) at nighttime. Daytime HONO budget analysis showed that the mean values of the unknown source (Punknown) during CD, PD, and SPD periods were 0.26, 0.40, and 1.83 ppbv h−1, respectively. The values of POH+NOnet, CHONO, and Punknown in the SPDs period were comparatively larger than those in other periods, indicating that HONO participated in many reactions. The proportions of nighttime HONO sources also changed during the entire sampling period. Direct emissions and a heterogeneous reaction controlled HONO production in the first half of the night and provided a contribution that is larger than that of the homogeneous reaction. The proportion of homogenization gradually increased in the second half of the night due to the steady increase in NO concentrations. The hourly level of HONO abatement pathways, except for OH + HONO, was at least 0.22 ppbv h−1 in the SPDs period. The cumulative frequency distribution of the HONOemission∕HONO ratio (less than 20 %) was approximately 77 %, which suggested that direct emission was not important. The heterogeneous HONO production increased when the relative humidity (RH) increased, but it decreased when RH increased further. The average HONO∕NOx ratio (4.9 %) was more than twice the assumed globally averaged value (2.0 %).

Reverse transcription quantitative PCR is a widely used method to detect gene expressions. To obtain accurate expression results, the selection of proper reference genes is important and necessary. However, related works concerning reference gene selection have not been carried on many plant species, especially endangered ones. The aim of the present study was to select dependable reference genes for expression normalization of an endangered plant species with medicinal and ornamental value: Sinocalycanthus chinensis (Calycanthaceae). Nine reference genes with stable expressions were chosen for further analysis according to transcriptomic sequencing data from S. chinensis. The expression stability of these candidate genes in inner and outer petals at different floral developmental stages and in many different tissues was then analyzed with the geNorm and NormFinder software. The reference genes were evaluated by normalizing the expression of the anthocyanidin synthase gene in the outer and inner petals at different floral developmental stages to further verify the expression stability of these genes. Elongation factor 1-alpha (ScEF) and 50S ribosomal protein L27 were found to be the two most stable genes in the overall ranking of all the samples and different tissues. Furthermore, ScEF and protein phosphatase 2A were stably expressed in all petal samples. Moreover, among the nine candidate reference genes, phosphoglycerate kinase performed poorly in all sample sets. Our results will help to obtain reliable expression data in molecular studies of S. chinensis.

The spin helicity in helimagnets may be exploited in magnetic memory applications if electrically controllable and detectable. Here, helicity manipulation driven by an electric current and detection by second harmonic resistivity measurements in an itinerant helimagnet MnP is demonstrated.

IntroductionThe newly developed Composite Activity-related Risk of Falls Scale (CARFS) is designed to measure composite activity-related risk of falls (CARF) in relation to the activity-specific fear of falling and physical behavior. This study tested the reliability and validity of the CARFS in older people with various health statuses and persons with stroke or spinal cord injury.MethodsParticipants included 70 older adults, 38 persons with stroke, and 18 with spinal cord injury. They were first surveyed using a combined questionnaire including the CARFS and activity-specific balance confidence (ABC) scale in addition to items asking for personal and disease-related information, fall history, walking independence levels for examining internal consistency, ceiling and floor effects, and convergent validity in each participant group. One week after the initial survey, 33 older participants were reexamined using the CARFS to analyze test-retest reliability, where a minimal detectable change was found. Significance was set at α = 0.05 for all analyses.ResultsThe CARFS showed excellent test-retest reliability in the dimensions of fear of falling, physical behavior, and CARF [ICC (3,1) = 0.972, 0.994, and 0.994, respectively for their overall score], with a minimal detectable change of 3.944 in the older population. The internal consistency of CARFS items was excellent in the older participants, good in participants with stroke or spinal cord injury (Cronbach's alpha = 0.945, 0.843, 0.831 in each participant group, respectively). No ceiling and floor effects were demonstrated in the wide range of people. For the convergent validity, overall CARF score was significantly correlated with the average ABC score in each participant group (rho = −0.824, −0.761, and −0.601, respectively; p < 0.01), and was significantly correlated with walking independence levels in each participant group (rho = −0.636, −0.423, and −0.522, respectively; p < 0.01). It showed weak correlation with the number of previous falls only in participants with stroke (rho = 0.291, p = 0.076).ConclusionThe CARFS is a reliable and valid tool for measuring fall risk in older people and persons with stroke or spinal cord injury.

The growing penetration of renewable resources such as wind and solar into the electric power grid through power electronic inverters is challenging grid protection. Due to the advanced inverter control algorithms, the inverter-based resources present fault responses different from conventional generators, which can fundamentally affect the way that the power grid is protected. This paper studied solar inverter dynamics focused on negative-sequence quantities during the restoration period following a grid disturbance by using a real-time digital simulator. It was found that solar inverters can act as negative-sequence sources to inject negative-sequence currents into the grid during the restoration period. The negative-sequence current can be affected by different operating conditions such as the number of inverters in service, grid strength, and grid fault types. Such negative-sequence responses can adversely impact the performance of protection schemes based on negative-sequence components and potentially cause relay maloperations during the grid restoration period, thus making system protection less secure and reliable.

To investigate the physicomechanical properties of stope backfill and to explore the mining conditions for an adjacent pillar, four boreholes, namely, GZK1, GZK2, GZK3, and GZK4, were constructed for taking the backfill core in the test stope. During borehole sampling, it is found that the strength of backfill is usually lower than that of the rock and ordinary concrete, and its resistance to tensile and compressive loads is limited. Therefore, the drilling speed should not be too fast, and a small amount of water is needed to continue drilling smoothly. For backfill with high strength, the sampling process is relatively smooth, and the backfill samples are relatively complete. GZK1 is located on the upper part of the stope near the footwall of the orebody, and the test results show that the backfill quality of this part is poor; thus, a complete backfill core cannot be obtained. GZK2 is located at the bottom of the stope close to the footwall of the orebody, GZK3 is located at the bottom of the stope close to the hanging wall of the orebody, and GZK4 is located at the top of the stope close to the hanging wall of the orebody. The average compressive strength and average tensile strength of the backfill samples obtained from the three boreholes, namely, GZK2, GZK3, and GZK4, are 2.928 to 3.583 MPa and 0.328 to 0.523 MPa, respectively, indicating that the backfill near the upper part and bottom close to the hanging wall of the orebody is good, while the backfill near the upper part close to the footwall of the orebody is poor. Special attention should be paid to the backfill with the range of GZK1 in the future second-step pillar mining process, and the sublevel method can be adopted to ensure the safety of the mining process. The backfill samples in the large goaf of No.17 room were obtained by geological drilling. Segregation occurred in the upper part of the No.17 room near the area of the footwall. The concentration and flow rate of the filling slurry were reasonably adjusted and controlled with the improvement of backfill quality. Therefore, the backfill strength of the No.17 room is generally good, which can meet the requirements of pillar mining, and also creates a good condition for the resource utilization of waste tailings of Caolou Iron Mine.

The root system is critical for the survival of nearly all land plants and a key target for improving abiotic stress tolerance, nutrient accumulation, and yield in crop species. Although many methods of root phenotyping exist, within field studies, one of the most popular methods is the extraction and measurement of the upper portion of the root system, known as the root crown, followed by trait quantification based on manual measurements or 2D imaging. However, 2D techniques are inherently limited by the information available from single points of view. Here, we used X-ray computed tomography to generate highly accurate 3D models of maize root crowns and created computational pipelines capable of measuring 71 features from each sample. This approach improves estimates of the genetic contribution to root system architecture and is refined enough to detect various changes in global root system architecture over developmental time as well as more subtle changes in root distributions as a result of environmental differences. We demonstrate that root pulling force, a high-throughput method of root extraction that provides an estimate of root mass, is associated with multiple 3D traits from our pipeline. Our combined methodology can therefore be used to calibrate and interpret root pulling force measurements across a range of experimental contexts or scaled up as a stand-alone approach in large genetic studies of root system architecture.

The increasing demand in rapid wound dressing and healing has promoted the development of intraoperative strategies, such as intraoperative bioprinting, which allows deposition of bioinks directly at the injury sites to conform to their specific shapes and structures. Although successes have been achieved to varying degrees, either the instrumentation remains complex and high-cost or the bioink is insufficient for desired cellular activities. Here, we report the development of a cost-effective, open-source handheld bioprinter featuring an ergonomic design, which was entirely portable powered by a battery pack. We further integrated an aqueous two-phase emulsion bioink based on gelatin methacryloyl with the handheld system, enabling convenient shape-controlled in situ bioprinting. The unique pore-forming property of the emulsion bioink facilitated liquid and oxygen transport as well as cellular proliferation and spreading, with an additional ability of good elasticity to withstand repeated mechanical compressions. These advantages of our pore-forming bioink-loaded handheld bioprinter are believed to pave a new avenue for effective wound dressing potentially in a personalized manner down the future.

Internationally, severe wildfires are an escalating problem likely to worsen given projected changes to climate. Hazard reduction burns (HRBs) are used to suppress wildfire occurrences, but they generate considerable emissions of atmospheric fine particulate matter, which depend upon prevailing atmospheric conditions, and can degrade air quality. Our objectives are to improve understanding of the relationships between meteorological conditions and air quality during HRBs in Sydney, Australia. We identify the primary meteorological covariates linked to high PM2.5 pollution (particulates 2.5 remained low versus HRB days when PM2.5 was high. Generalised additive mixed models were applied to continuous meteorological and PM2.5 observations for 2011–2016 at four sites across Sydney. The results show that planetary boundary layer height (PBLH) and total cloud cover were the most consistent predictors of elevated PM2.5 during HRBs. During HRB days with low pollution, the PBLH between 00:00 and 07:00 LT (local time) was 100–200 m higher than days with high pollution. The PBLH was similar during 10:00–17:00 LT for both low and high pollution days, but higher after 18:00 LT for HRB days with low pollution. Cloud cover, temperature and wind speed reflected the above pattern, e.g. mean temperatures and wind speeds were 2 °C cooler and 0.5 m s−1 lower during mornings and evenings of HRB days when air quality was poor. These cooler, more stable morning and evening conditions coincide with nocturnal westerly cold air drainage flows in Sydney, which are associated with reduced mixing height and vertical dispersion, leading to the build-up of PM2.5. These findings indicate that air pollution impacts may be reduced by altering the timing of HRBs by conducting them later in the morning (by a matter of hours). Our findings support location-specific forecasts of the air quality impacts of HRBs in Sydney and similar regions elsewhere.

According to the "Natural priority, Status quo priority" principle of acquisition, the national geography census data has the characteristics of objectivity, impartiality and accuracy. It provides a new perspective for the management and decision-making support of other industries as a "third party" and plays an important role in the professional management and investigation of various departments including land, transportation, forestry and water conservancy. Taking land resources supervision as an example, the Yellow River Delta efficient eco-economic zone as the research area, based on the national geographic census data and the land survey data, this paper established the correspondence of the two types of data through the reclassification of the land cover classification data, calculated the spatial coincidence rate of the same land class and the circulation relations among different land classes through the spatial overlay analysis and the calculation of space transfer matrix, quantified the differences between the data and objectively analysed the causes of the differences; On this basis, combined with land supervision hot spots, supplemented by multi-source remote sensing images and socio-economic data, analysed the application of geographic census data in the land regulation from multi-point.

Practical power curve estimation is necessary for evaluating the actual power output of a wind farm; since a power curve provided by the wind turbine manufacture will be different with the actual power curve following several years of operation. It can be estimated using the collected power output data including wind power generation and wind speed. This data is commonly ill-distributed due to a noticeable number of outliers, which impose a serious bias to the estimation models obtained from this data. It introduces an interesting challenge in estimation of a power curve. In this paper, an intelligent algorithm is proposed for estimating a power curve using the measured data while modeling and bias errors, imposed to the estimation model by the outliners, are minimized. More specifically, this algorithm is designed based on the Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) programming software package in order to facilitate analyzing and managing big datasets of wind speed and wind power generation. The effectiveness and practical application of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated using a real-world dataset.

For scalable quantum communication and networks, a key step is to realize a quantum repeater node that can efficiently connect different segments of atom-photon entanglement using quantum memories. We report a compact and hardware-efficient realization of a quantum repeater node using a single atomic ensemble for multicell quantum memories. A millisecond lifetime is achieved for individual memory cells after suppressing the magnetic-field-induced inhomogeneous broadening and the atomic-motion-induced spin-wave dephasing. Based on these long-lived memory cells, we achieve heralded asynchronous entanglement generation in two quantum repeater segments one after another and then an on-demand entanglement connection of these two repeater segments. As another application of the multicell atomic quantum memory, we further demonstrate storage and on-demand retrieval of heralded atomic spin-wave qubits by implementing a random access quantum memory with individual addressing capacity. This work provides a promising constituent for efficient realization of quantum repeaters for large-scale quantum networks.

A new and convenient route to the regiocontrolled synthesis of a cellulose-based derivate copolymer (2,3-di-O-polycaprolactone-cellulose) grafting ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) from α-cellulose, cellulose-graft-polycaprolactone (cellulose-g-PCL), by a classical ring-opening polymerization (ROP) reaction, using stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst, in 68% concentration of zinc chloride aqueous solution at 120 °C was presented. By controlling the hydroxyl of cellulose/ε-CL, catalyst/monomer ratio and the reaction time, the molecular architecture of the copolymers can be altered. The solubility of cellulose in zinc chloride aqueous was indicated by UV/VIS spectrometer and rheological measurements. The structures and thermal properties of cellulose-g-polycaprolactone copolymers were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H NMR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). The interesting results confirm that zinc chloride solution can break the intra-molecular hydrogen bonds of cellulose selectively (not only O3H···O5, but also O2H···O6), and has no effect on the inter-molecular hydrogen bonds (O6H···O3). And the grafting reactivity of hydroxyl on cellulose is C2–OH > C3–OH >> C6–OH in zinc chloride solution, and this is clearly different from other researches. Most importantly, this work confirms that the method to regiocontrolled synthesis cellulose-based derivative polymers by regiobreaking hydrogen bonds is feasible. It is strongly believed that the new discovery may give a novel, environmental, simple and inexpensive method to modify cellulose chemically with various side chains grafted on a given hydroxyl, through liberating hydroxyl as reactive group from hydrogen bonds broken selectively by different solvents.

Classification of the surrounding rock is the basis of tunnel design and construction. However, conventional classification methods do not allow dynamic tunnel construction adjustments because they are time-consuming and do not consider the randomness of rock mass. This paper presents a new reliability rock mass classification method based on a least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) optimized by a bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFOA). The LSSVM is adopted to express the implicit relationship between classification indicators and rock mass grades, which is a response surface function for reliability evaluation. LSSVM parameters were optimized by the BFOA to form a hybrid BFOA-LSSVM algorithm. Using geological prediction and rock strength resilience results as classification indicators, samples were developed to train the LSSVM model using the hybrid algorithm. The Monte Carlo sampling method of reliability classification was implemented and applied to the Suqiao tunnel at the Puyan highway in the Fujian province of China; the influence of parameters on the performance of the algorithm is discussed. The results indicate that the new method is feasible for tunnel engineering; it can improve the classification accuracy of surrounding rock exhibiting randomness, to provide an effective means of classifying surrounding rock in the dynamic design of tunnel construction.

Aiming at the problem that the target may have different orientation in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) image, the target detection algorithm based on the rotation invariant feature is studied，and this paper proposes a method of RIFF (Rotation-Invariant Fast Features) based on look up table and polar coordinate acceleration to be used for aircraft target detection. The experiment shows that the detection performance of this method is basically equal to the RIFF, and the operation efficiency is greatly improved.

Smoke from wildfires poses a significant threat to affected communities. Prescribed burning is conducted to reduce the extent and potential damage of wildfires, but produces its own smoke threat. Planners of prescribed fires model the likely dispersion of smoke to help manage the impacts on local communities. Significant uncertainty remains about the actual smoke impact from prescribed fires, especially near the fire, and the accuracy of smoke dispersal models. To address this uncertainty, a detailed study of smoke dispersal was conducted for one small (52 ha) and one large (700 ha) prescribed fire near Appin in New South Wales, Australia, through the use of stationary and handheld pollution monitors, visual observations and rain radar data, and by comparing observations to predictions from an atmospheric dispersion model. The 52 ha fire produced a smoke plume about 800 m high and 9 km long. Particle concentrations (PM2.5) reached very high peak values (> 400 µg m−3) and high 24 h average values (> 100 µg m−3) at several locations next to or within ∼ 500 m downwind from the fire, but low levels elsewhere. The 700 ha fire produced a much larger plume, peaking at ∼ 2000 m altitude and affecting downwind areas up to 14 km away. Both peak and 24 h average PM2.5 values near the fire were lower than for the 52 ha fire, but this may be because the monitoring locations were further away from the fire. Some lofted smoke spread north against the ground-level wind direction. Smoke from this fire collapsed to the ground during the night at different times in different locations. Although it is hard to attribute particle concentrations definitively to smoke, it seems that the collapsed plume affected a huge area including the towns of Wollongong, Bargo, Oakdale, Camden and Campbelltown (∼ 1200 km2). PM2.5 concentrations up to 169 µg m−3 were recorded on the morning following the fire. The atmospheric dispersion model accurately predicted the general behaviour of both plumes in the early phases of the fires, but was poor at predicting fine-scale variation in particulate concentrations (e.g. places 500 m from the fire). The correlation between predicted and observed varied between 0 and 0.87 depending on location. The model also completely failed to predict the night-time collapse of the plume from the 700 ha fire. This study provides a preliminary insight into the potential for large impacts from prescribed fire smoke to NSW communities and the need for increased accuracy in smoke dispersion modelling. More research is needed to better understand when and why such impacts might occur and provide better predictions of pollution risk.

ObjectivesTo investigate the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and prognosis of thrombocytopenia (TP) in Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).MethodsThe study was conducted based on the Chinese SLE Treatment and Research group (CSTAR) registry. Thrombocytopenia was defined as the platelet countResultsOf 2104 patients with SLE, 342 patients (16.3%) were diagnosed with thrombocytopenia. The prevalence of neuropsychiatric SLE, vasculitis, myositis, nephritis, mucocutaneous lesions, pleuritis, fever, leukocytopenia and hypocomplementemia were significantly higher in patients with thrombocytopenia (pConclusionsThrombocytopenia was a common manifestation of SLE and was associated with leukocytopenia, nephritis and severe disease activity. Severe thrombocytopenia tended to occur in long-term and relatively inactive SLE. Patients with SLE-related thrombocytopenia has a decreased long-term survival rate. Long disease duration was an independent risk factor of mortality in patients with thrombocytopenia.
