Background: Neonatal sepsis is a major problem worldwide. Positive blood culture, the diagnostic gold standard is expensive, time consuming and yields result in limited cases. Hence reliable surrogate markers are needed. Aims and Objective: To ascertain haematological parameters which are reliable adjuvants to blood culture for diagnosing Neonatal Sepsis. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried over two years in alevel3 NICU among neonates admitted with suspected sepsis. Data on demographics, clinical background, blood laboratory results were extracted from medical records and statistically analysed by multivariate regression analysis to identify surrogate markers for sepsis. Results: Over two years, 182 neonates admitted with Suspected Sepsis were enrolled in the study. In all clinical examination followed by laboratory investigations viz CBP (TLC, ANC, ITR, degenerative changes, platelet count), CRP and blood culture was carried out prior to treatment. A total of 64 (35.2%) were blood culture positive. On multivariable regression analysis, ITR >0.2 [OR 16.3; 95% CI (1.5-176.8), platelet count Conclusions: The study revealed that Immature to total neutrophil ratio >0.2, platelet count Key Messages: 1. Blood culture, the gold standard for diagnosing neonatal sepsis is expensive, time consuming and yields positive results in limited cases. 2. Effective surrogate markers are Immature to total neutrophil ratio (ITR), thrombocytopenia and cytotoxic degenerative changes in neutrophils. 3. Background: The application of enantioselective capillary electrophoresis approach for the assessment of the enantiomeric purity of chiral molecules is receiving increased attention. Abscisic acid is one of the chiral sesquiterpenic plant growth regulators that regulate various ecological and physiological roles in higher plants. Enantiomeric determination of ABA is of great concern because of the different biological activity of its enantiomers. Materials and Methods: In this study, we investigated the enantioseparation selectivity of ABA by incorporating native β-cyclodextrins (β-CD) and its derivatives as chiral modifiers in the background electrolyte of an enantioselective capillary zone electrophoresis system. Electrophoretic aspects that affect the enantiomeric separation, such as pH, types of β-CD and its concentration, applied voltage, injection pressure and time, were studied and optimised. Results and Discussions: An enhancement in enantioseparation was achieved in a bare fused-silica capillary (64.5 cm × 50 mm i.d.) using a background electrolyte solution consisting of (2-hydroxypropyl)- β-CD (80 mM) solubilised in 100 mM phosphate buffer adjusted to pH 5.9 with NaOH, operated under normal polarity mode (25 kV) at 25°C, and using hydrodynamic injection (75 mbar for 10s). Relative standard deviations of (intra- and inter-day) ≤ 3.23% and ≤ 1.39% for migration times and enantiomeric fractions (EF) were achieved using the proposed method. Conclusion: The proposed chiral capillary electrophoretic method offers advantages in terms of enantioselectivity and analysis times, which can serve as a reliable platform for the stereoisomeric analysis of ABA.

L-Malic acid potassium bromide MAPB, a new semi organic material was synthesized successfully by solution growth method. Single crystal x-ray diffraction analysis reveals the cell parameters of the grown crystal and it crystallized in cubic system. The molecular structure of MAPB was identified by FTIR spectral analysis. The lower cut-off wavelength (λ = 272 nm), optical energy band gap (5049 eV) and Urbach energy (0.2381 eV) of MAPB crystal was determined by using UV–Vis-NIR spectral studies. The single electronic transitional band structure of the material was identified by photoluminescence spectrum. The various morphological formations on the grown crystal were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) study. The second order nonlinear optical properties of grown MAPB were measured by Kurtz and Perry powder technique. The thermal stability of MAPB crystal was studied by differential scanning calorimetric technique. The relative dielectric property was rigorously analyzed with various temperature ranges. Vickers micro hardness test suggest that the material belongs to soft material category. Z-scan study was employed to analyze the third order non-linear optical characteristics like refractive index (n2), the absorption coefficient (β) and third order susceptibility (χ3).

Composite materials have been employed major part in current era for its light weight, good stiffness, high specific strength and flexible nature. In this research, The hybrid composites of unsaturated polyester based Coir/Napier grass hybrid fiber are prepared. The hybrid composites were prepared in the following proportion of Coir/Napier grass 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100 ratios whereas overall fibre weight ratios were maintained at 0.4Wf. Coir/Napier grass fibers are united in the same matrix (unsaturated polyester) to prepare hybrid composites and the tensile, flexural and impact properties are studied experimentally. A significant improvement in tensile, flexural and impact properties of Coir/Napier grass fiber hybrid composites is found. The morphology of coir/Napier grass fiber hybrid composite was investigated using scanning electron microscope.

Difficult-to-machine materials like composites, super alloys and ceramics are cut by Abrasive water jet cutting (AWJC). However, the failure of the jet to cut through the work piece is a major issue particularly in thicker materials. The jet’s inability to produce longer smooth cut surface, minimum surface roughness and minimum kerf taper are the major challenges the researchers are trying to find solutions. This paper addresses the three issues in cutting of aluminum 7075 hybrid metal matrix composites. The hybrid composite is developed by incorporating two reinforcements (B4C and TiC) into Aluminum matrix. Cutting experiments were carried out on Pure AL7075, AL7075 + (2.5%B4C + 2.5%TiC), AL7075 + (5%B4C + 5%TiC)AL7075 + (7.5%B4C + 7.5%TiC). The surface generated, smooth cut region and kerf taper were analyzed on the all composite machined using AWJC machine.

In particular, The farm residues have been considered as valid raw material to manufacture sound absorbing panels with low cost. These materials have no harmful effect to human health, and are available in plentiful as waste product in agriculture farming cycle. Considering the Review of literature of previous studies carried out by many authors on acoustic performance of naturally available farm residues, this paper reports the acoustical performance of the some farm residues as Lobia shell, Coconut leaf, Urad dhal Leaf, Sugarcane Leaf and Maize. The Sound absorption coefficient for different samples with varying thickness have been measured. This study reveals that the Acoustic performance of the farm residues as absorption panel are appreciable in the mid-range of frequency spectrum considered for study. The Scanning electron Microscope images are also analyzed to understand the structure of the farm residues considered in this study.

Treatment success rates for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remain low globally. Availability of newer drugs has given scope to develop regimens that can be patient-friendly, less toxic, with improved outcomes. We proposed to determine the effectiveness of an entirely oral, short-course regimen with Bedaquiline and Delamanid in treating MDR-TB with additional resistance to fluoroquinolones (MDR-TBFQ+) or second-line injectable (MDR-TBSLI+).We prospectively determined the effectiveness and safety of combining two new drugs with two repurposed drugs - Bedaquiline, Delamanid, Linezolid, and Clofazimine for 24-36 weeks in adults with pulmonary MDR-TBFQ+ or/and MDR-TBSLI+. The primary outcome was a favorable response at end of treatment, defined as two consecutive negative cultures taken four weeks apart. The unfavorable outcomes included bacteriologic or clinical failure during treatment period.Of the 165 participants enrolled, 158 had MDR-TBFQ+. At the end of treatment, after excluding 12 patients due to baseline drug susceptibility and culture negatives, 139 of 153 patients (91%) had a favorable outcome. Fourteen patients (9%) had unfavorable outcomes: four deaths, seven treatment changes, two bacteriological failures, and one withdrawal. During treatment, 85 patients (52%) developed myelosuppression, 69 (42%) reported peripheral neuropathy, and none had QTc(F) prolongation500msec. At 48 weeks of follow-up, 131 patients showed sustained treatment success with the resolution of adverse events in the majority.After 24-36 weeks of treatment, this regimen resulted in a satisfactory favorable outcome in pulmonary MDR-TB patients with additional drug resistance. Cardiotoxicity was minimal, and myelosuppression, while common, was detected early and treated successfully.

This work presents the machinability study of copper alloys using Electro-chemical Micro-Machining (EMM) for conicity and material removal rate (MRR). Applied voltage (AV), duty cycle (DC) and electrolyte concentration (EC) is chosen as the control parameters. Experiments trails were investigated based on L9 Orthogonal Array (OA). The mathematical equation for conicity and MRR are developed using MINITAB software. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is performed for finding the most significant factor. Based on ANOVA, contribution for parameters A, B, and C on MRR are found to be 60.88%, 14.40%, and 13.30% respectively. The significant factor on MRR is AV which is found to be 60.88%. For conicity, contributions of factors A, B, and C were found to be 65.54%, 18.63%, and 03.37% respectively. The significant factor on concity is AV which is found to be 65.54%.

Textile industry outlet Waste water contain a several mixture of polluting substances involving solvents, detergents and dyes. Textile manufacturers are in a situation to sort out this issue by adopting a suitable treatment technology for textile effluent. Notably the application of ceramic Nano Filtration (NF) plays a significant role in recycling the specific waste in the textile industry thereby paving way to waste recycling instead of being disposed of in land whereas it seems to be impossible for most of the conventional technologies in treating this textile effluents. The Initial performances of commercial NF membranes have been studied thoroughly pertaining to Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) rejection. The outcome showed that maximum separation of dye and salts where achieved by some of the commercial membranes while some achieved higher flux owing to the inconsistent parameters of textile waste water and NF membranes chosen. These work forefronts and studied the problem associated with textile waste water and waste water recycling using the ceramic nano filtration membrane.

Various fields of engineering such as automobile, aerospace and construction industries are employs Aluminum alloys and its composites due to its high strength to weight ratio. But they possess poor wear resistance due to low hardness. In this research, shot peening treatment is used to enhance the wear resistance ability of the composites. Micro hardness and surface roughness of AL7075 Hybrid metal matrix composites are examined after shot peening treatment. For this, the aluminum alloy specimens are subjected to shot peening for 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 s time. The results reveal that the shot peening treatment increases micro -hardness and surface roughness up to 90 s. The specimen after 120 s peening demonstrates the marginal improvement in micro hardness and slight reduction in surface roughness.

Human–robot interaction has been a challenging task, and it involves various criteria to be considered including robot operator’s caliber and his/her safety. Here in this project, we bring speech recognition to the rescue of robot operator, which has become a popular interface for human–computer interaction to recognize the speech of robot operator, to command and control the industrial robot. In this project, the five degree of freedom robotic arm is controlled through speech-based interfaces in Indic Languages, namely English (Indian accent), Hindi and Tamil. Python speech recognition API along with PocketSphinx is used for converting robot operator’s speech commands to text form, and the command is translated and fed to the sophisticated servo controller for the actuation of robotic arm. A mobile application was also developed that can control the robot arm using HC-05 Bluetooth technology through speech-based interfaces.

The nanoparticles are incorporated into the composite to mark their unique properties. This work investigates the hybrid epoxy nanocomposite and the impact of nanographite reinforcement. The composite was prepared by using a mechanical stirring technique. The amount of nanographite was added in different volumes, i.e., 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 wt.%. Results of mechanical and dynamic loading properties were analyzed in accordance to the quantity of nano-G. The fiber and matrix interfacial bonding enrichments were evident in high-resolution SEM images-tensile fracture surface. Finally, the optimum content of nanoparticle which impacts the sample greatly was found to be 1.5 wt.%.

Adsorption-based cooling system is a cost-effective method of heat conversion. It has the potential to dramatically enhance energy efficiency while also lowering pollutant levels. For this purpose, a solar-powered vapor adsorption refrigeration system (VAdRS) using activated carbon–methanol and zeolite–water as the working pair has been designed and experimentally evaluated. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the coefficient of performance (COP) and specific cooling power (SCP) of a solar cooling unit by utilizing the optimum minimum and maximum mass concentration ratios. The novel solar-assisted adsorption refrigeration system optimization technique is used in this research to evaluate the optimal performance of the solar-powered VAdRS under various operating scenarios. The experiment was conducted at the optimum minimum and maximum mass concentration ratios of 0.1 and 0.2, respectively. The experimental results show that the activated carbon–methanol adsorption system produces a higher COP value than the zeolite–water adsorption system of 0.49–0.64 and 0.64–0.67 at constant evaporator and condenser temperature, respectively. It also showed that the higher SCP value was revealed in the zeolite–water-based adsorption cooling system as 207.5–217.4 kJ/kg. It was revealed that AC–methanol could be used to operate better in low-generating-temperature conditions. On the other hand, the zeolite–water adsorption system can be used at higher generating temperatures.
