This paper describes and develops a general flexible methodology for the analytical design of dual-stator type Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators which are used in vertical axis wind turbines. The aim of this methodology is to have a validated tool for making fast designs without the need of using high time-consuming finite element simulations. However, the validation process is done through comparisons with the finite element software JMAG-Designer 12.0. The algorithm solution presented in this paper is suitable for the design of new topologies of AF - PMSG’ s.

This paper proposes and describes the main steps for developing a flexible methodology for the analytical design of Transverse-Flux Generators. The aim of this methodology is to have a validated tool for implementing new topologies of TF-PMSG's for their use in wind turbines located in regions with higher wind potential. The higher specific torque and power densities is the main advantage of TF-PMSG technology against other topologies of PMSG machines and conventional machines. The methodology is well described in the form of an algorithmic solution. Finally, the proposed methodology is validated with JMAG-Designer 12.0.

This paper describes the steps for carrying out automated Hardware-In-the-Loop tests to protective relays with the real-time power system simulator RTDS. The main features with such tests are the performance verification of new protective relays, before their commissioning within the electrical substations, and the improvement of the power system reliability. A brief description of the software, hardware and applications of the RTDS simulator is made. A digital simulation model of a power network is proposed, as a benchmark case, to perform the Hardware-In-the-Loop tests with the distance relay SEL-421. Finally, a report is made to analyze the performance of the distance relay.

The aim of this paper is to describe a general procedure for incorporating new realistic models of power system components in modern EMTP-based real-time simulators. For doing this, a comprehensive description of the frequency-dependent transmission line model FD-Line is first presented. Then, it is described the implementation of this line model in Simulink environment for running off-line simulations of electromagnetic transients. This implementation allows the interaction with the Power System Blockset library and also, the real-time simulations in the PC-based real-time simulator eMEGAsim. Finally, several simulation cases of power systems are presented to test the real-time performance of this line model.

A Taylor-Series expansion method is proposed in this paper for the accurate and efficient calculation of the earth return impedance in buried cables. To reach this solution, it is used the Wedepohl and Wilcox's transformation for reducing the complexity of Pollaczek's integral. To validate the accuracy of the obtained results, a comparison has been made with the numerical integration method `Gauss/Lobatto' for a broad range of applications. Finally, the criterion of percent relative error is used with contour maps to analyze the convergence and stability for the proposed series expansion method.

An industrial vision system must perform a specific and unambiguous inspection. The examination result is crucial to determine if the analyzed item can keep on its transformation process into the production line. So, these systems are strategically installed after those process stations that could have generated a defect in the product. To lower production costs, it is always desirable to detect all failures and get the incorrect pieces out of the line. Implementing this kind of systems is not always simple. Occasionally, special failure features make the use of one single camera insufficient. The solution for multi-camera applications may involve the use and synchronization of several algorithms being executed in different cameras. Also, to fulfill the time constraints, a distributed way for image acquisition and processing is necessary. A Decision and Communication Management Methodology (D&CM-Cam) is presented in this paper. The methodology is designed for embedded Multi-smart Camera systems and consists on a sequence of tasks to assure correct communication among the system elements for a correct and fast decision making. The methodology resides on the smart cameras as algorithms, managing the communication and making the final decision by means of dynamic analysis and classifiers. The technique is described by two diagrams: Static and Dynamic. D&CM-Cam is applied to a case study in lamps production by means of a transparent glass tubs inspection system. Here D&CM-Cam is set for 4 parallel smart cameras to find out 2 different failures at about 17 parts per minute.
