The fluid transport code [trans-electric field (Er) module] under the BOUT++ framework has been used to simulate divertor heat flux width and boundary Er with all drifts and the sheath potential in the scrape-off layer. The calculated steady state radial Er in the pedestal region has been compared with that of experimental measurements from the Alcator C-Mod tokamak. The magnitude and shape of Er are similar to those of the experimental data. In order to understand the relative role of cross-field drifts vs turbulent transport in setting the heat flux width, four C-Mod enhanced Dα H-mode discharges with a lower single null divertor configuration should be simulated. BOUT++ transport simulations with cross-field drifts included yield similar heat flux width λq to that of experimental measurements (within a factor of 2) from both the probe and the surface thermocouple diagnostics and show a similar trend with plasma current to that of the Eich experimental scaling. The simulations show that both drifts and turbulent transport compete to determine the heat flux width. The magnetic drifts play a dominant role in setting the divertor heat-flux width, while the E × B drift decreases the heat flux width by 10%–25%, leading to improved agreement with the experiment relative to Goldston’s model. A turbulence diffusivity scan (χ⊥) identifies two distinct regimes: a drift dominant regime when χ⊥ is small and a turbulence dominant regime when χ⊥ is large. The Goldston heuristic drift model yields a lower limit of the width λq.

The gold-placer deposit of Pokrovsky-Verny streams is formed on the southern slope of Belaya Gora (Khabarovsk Krai), where streams drain gold formations of the same-name deposit. The gold content in the waste dumps of past years often reaches commercial concentrations, which allows to be re-processed them and some of the gold goes back into the dumps. The field formed by ore and alluvial formations is a complex volcanic structure with a concentric-zone structure underlined by faults. At the initial stage of research, the goal was to determine the content of the precious metal in gravity concentrate samples from the placers, the study of the mineralogical and technological characteristics of gold going into dumps. 135 gold grains ranging in size from 10–15 µm to 3 mm were studied using an electron scanning microscope. Six main species were distinguished by composition and morphology: high-grade in the form of isometric crystals; aggregates of gold crystals with 0–29% silver admixture; dendrites with up to 41% silver admixture; grayish gold and silver amalgams; loose weishanite (Au,Ag)3 Hg2 formations of gray color; aggregates of ore-bearing and nonmetalliferous minerals with gold, in which the precious metal is less than half the grain. All gold grains have a flattened shape, variably contain inclusions of clay minerals, quartz, hematite, ilmenite, magnetite, limonite. Grains of native metals and intermetallic compounds are isolated in mineral association with gold. The revealed features of gold show that the formation of the precious metal is associated with hypogenic and epithermal processes, as well as with fluid emanations coming through late deep faults. Effective gold recovery requires several stages mineral processing.

This study investigated the influence of thiosulfonate esters, specifically S-ethyl-4-aminobenzenethiosulfonate (ETS), S-allyl-4-aminobenzenethiosulfonate (ATS), and S-allyl-4-acetylaminobenzenethiosulfonate (AATS), at a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight on the antioxidant defense system in rat kidneys. The kidneys are essential organs involved in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and they are constantly exposed to reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress. The effectiveness of the antioxidant defense system was evaluated by measuring oxidative stress markers, including lipid peroxidation (LPO), as well as the activity of key antioxidant enzymes, such as catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GP), glutathione reductase (GR), and the level of reduced glutathione (GSH). Dysfunction of oxidant protection was observed with an oily diet, characterized by an increase in lipid hydroperoxide levels, a decrease in the SOD and catalase activity, and a decrease in the antioxidant activity of the entire glutathione chain. Administration of thiosulfonates, especially ETS and AATS, helped stabilize antioxidant protection. The beneficial antioxidant effects of thiosulfonates can be partially explained by their ability to prevent the formation of free radicals, can intercept, neutralize reactive oxygen species and other harmful substances that can damage body cells.

INTRODUCTION. Israel is a diverse and controversial state. Its laws, especially those of the area of family and marital law, are distinctly unique. The reason being that throughout its centuries-long history Eretz Israel (the Land of Israel) – the historical name of the country, the structure of norms of this branch of law has gone through a set of changes under different political regimens. The government ruling over this holy land at a certain time period was to some extent influencing current social order and the lives of Jewish people, including such aspect as the performance of religious rituals.Considering the specificity of traditionalistic norms of Judean legal system attempts of influence on it from the outside have always been a big challenge. Those norms had to be strictly followed as it was of utmost importance for the conservation of the Jewish communities, Jewish culture and its authenticity, which for centuries has been challenged by many in attempts to modify, discriminate and even irradicate it. Hence, in this article the authors examined the most notable periods of the existence of Jewish communities in Eretz Israel. Inter alia there is an analysis of rules and measures introduced by the ruling system under the Ottoman Empire (from year 1517 to year 1917), of decrees present under the Mandate of Palestine (1922-1948), of the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948 and of current legislation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The article isbased on the current Israeli legislation which concerns familial and marital relations, as well as on traditional religious code of rules and obligations “Halakha” which is still in action in Israel’s society. In the article Ottoman and British-Palestinian legislation is mentioned which was in force during the corresponding historical periods of time. It is also stated that the majority of the legislative acts in the area of familial and marital relations follow the principles of the International law, the rulings of the Supreme court of Israel are made according to the norms of International law and, among other things, in consideration with the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women of 1979. For the achievement of result general and specific scientific methods of research were applied, in particular historical-legal and comparative-legal methods of study. RESEARCH RESULTS. Research result consists in presentation of current Israeli familial and marital legislation and other religious traditional rules review. It is well-proven that despite the strictness of the Judean traditions, according to the clauses of the Israeli Declaration of Independence 1948, Israel being a Jewish state is also a modern and democratic one. Democratic principles of equality and humanism prevail in cases where in the proceedings regarding marital and family affairs where the rights of one of the parties are violated, every citizen of the state of Israel can appeal to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of Justice seeking a justified sentence and protection of one’s interests. Therefore, the result of the integration of the legal principles typical for democratic countries and the traditional norms of Judaism current legal system of the state of Israel was created. The mechanism of this system comes from the respect for the traditions whilst the main principles of democracy are also followed, namely those of justice, equality and humanism. This is what makes the legal system of Israel unique in every aspect, including the norms of familial and marital relations which integrate both traditional implementations and modern aspects. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. In the frames of the present research study the authors found that familial and marital law of Israel is based on norms of the Religious law, on a special code of rules and obligations called – “Halakha”. From the standpoint of the development of law and practice, a certain role was played by the procedural rules introduced in the territory of Eretz Israel during the period of Ottoman Empire. English law had a certain influence on the development of Israeli law in general during British Mandate of Palestine. Modern Israeli legislation in the field of marriage and family relations is based on and takes into account international agreements to which Israel is a party.

A biocompatible, heterogeneous, fucose-rich, sulfated polysaccharide (fucoidan) is biosynthesized in brown seaweed. In this study, fucoidan was isolated from Padina arborescens (PAC) using celluclast-assisted extraction, purified, and evaluated for its anti-inflammatory potential in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Structural analyses were performed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy. Among the purified fucoidans, fucoidan fraction 5 (F5) exhibited strong inhibitory activity against LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO) production and pro-inflammatory cytokine generation through the regulation of iNOS/COX-2, MAPK, and NF-κB signaling in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Determination of the structural characteristics indicated that purified F5 exhibited characteristics similar to those of commercial fucoidan. In addition, further analyses suggested that F5 inhibits LPS-induced toxicity, cell death, and NO generation in zebrafish models. Taken together, these findings imply that P. arborescens fucoidans have exceptional anti-inflammatory action, both in vitro and in vivo, and that they may have prospective uses in the functional food sector.

Muscle atrophy is a detrimental and injurious condition that leads to reduced skeletal muscle mass and disruption of protein metabolism. Oyster (Crassostrea nippona) is a famous and commonly consumed shellfish in East Asia and has become a popular dietary choice worldwide. The current investigation evaluated the efficacy of C. nippona against muscle atrophy, which has become a severe health issue. Mammalian skeletal muscles are primarily responsible for efficient metabolism, energy consumption, and body movements. The proteins that regulate muscle hypertrophy and atrophy are involved in muscle growth. C. nippona extracts were enzymatically hydrolyzed using alcalase (AOH), flavourzyme (FOH), and protamex (POH) to evaluate their efficacy in mitigating dexamethasone-induced muscle damage in C2C12 cells in vitro. AOH exhibited notable cell proliferative abilities, promoting dose-dependent myotube formation. These results were further solidified by protein expression analysis. Western blot and gene expression analysis via RT-qPCR demonstrated that AOH downregulated MuRF-1, Atrogin, Smad 2/3, and Foxo-3a, while upregulating myogenin, MyoD, myosin heavy chain expression, and mTOR, key components of the ubiquitin–proteasome and mTOR signaling pathways. Finally, this study suggests that AOH holds promise for alleviating dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy in C2C12 cells in vitro, offering insights for developing functional foods targeting conditions akin to sarcopenia.

Abstract Information from Pereskia aculeata Miller (Cactaceae) responses regarding the portion of the stem cuttings branch parental plants and the shading level need to be investigated in order to establish techniques for their producing seedlings. We aimed was to evaluate the effect of cutting types and shading levels in the production of P. aculeata seedlings. We studied three cutting types, collected from different portions of the stem cuttings branch: herbaceous, semi-hardwood, and hardwood, which were arranged under two shading levels: 0% (full sun) or 50% (shade). The selected parent plants had an adequate and vigorous phytosanitary aspect. After 90 days after the cuttings, the seedlings were evaluated regarding survival, growth indicators, biomass production and partitioning, and allometric indices. Seedlings from hardwood cuttings and produced under 0% shading showed higher survival. The largest number of sprouts occurred in seedlings of semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings. The highest leaf area values occurred in seedlings of semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings under 0% shading. Seedlings from hardwood cuttings had higher biomass allocation in the roots under 50% shading. Seedlings of herbaceous and semi-hardwood portion allocated values ≥ 70% of the biomass in the aerial part. Seedlings of species are able to adjust to different shading levels as a plasticity mechanism. For the production of P. aculeata seedlings, the hardwood portion of the stem cuttings branch under full sun cultivation is recommended. In addition, semi-hardwood cuttings grown under 50% shading can also be used for seedlings production.

Fish head byproducts derived from surimi processing contribute about 15% of the total body weight, which are beneficial to health because they contain essential nutrients. In this study, olive flounder (OF) was the target species in order to maximize the byproduct utilization. In RAW 264.7 macrophages, the seven hydrolysates from OF head byproducts were examined for their inhibitory potential against inflammation and the oxidative stress induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). The pepsin hydrolysate (OFH–PH) demonstrated strong anti-inflammatory activity via the down-regulation of NO production, with an IC50 value of 299.82 ± 4.18 µg/mL. We evaluated the inhibitory potential of pro-inflammatory cytokines and PGE2 to confirm these findings. Additionally, iNOS and COX-2 protein expressions were confirmed using western blotting. Furthermore, the results from the in vivo zebrafish model demonstrated that OFH–PH decreased the LPS-elevated heart rate, NO production, cell death, and intracellular ROS level, while increasing the survival percentage. Hence, the obtained results of this study serve as a platform for future research and provide insight into the mediation of inflammatory disorders. These results suggest that OFH–PH has the potential to be utilized as a nutraceutical and functional food ingredient.

The limited availability of treatments for many infectious diseases highlights the need for new treatments, particularly for viral infections. Natural compounds from seaweed are attracting increasing attention for the treatment of various viral diseases, and thousands of novel compounds have been isolated for the development of pharmaceutical products. Seaweed is a rich source of natural bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides. The discovery of algal polysaccharides with antiviral activity has significantly increased in the past few decades. Furthermore, unique polysaccharides isolated from seaweeds, such as carrageenan, alginates, fucoidans, galactans, laminarians, and ulvans, have been shown to act against viral infections. The antiviral mechanisms of these agents are based on their inhibition of DNA or RNA synthesis, viral entry, and viral replication. In this article, we review and provide an inclusive description of the antiviral activities of algal polysaccharides. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and opportunities for developing polysaccharide-based antiviral therapies, including issues related to drug delivery and formulation. Finally, this review highlights the need for further research for fully understanding the potential of seaweed polysaccharides as a source of antiviral agents and for developing effective treatments for viral diseases.

The paper presents an analysis of the literature on the expansion of the range of processed cheeses using sunflower isolate. Four samples of processed cheese with different percentage of sunflower isolate were selected for the study: control, 1st – 3 %, 2nd – 5 % and 3rd – 7 %. Analyzing the results of organoleptic evaluation, it should be noted that the organoleptic characteristics of the control and the first samples were evaluated in the same number of points. Samples two and three as a result of tasting evaluation for taste lost to the first two by 0.2 and 0.4 points, respectively. The odor of the third sample with a percentage of sunflower isolate of 5 % was not inferior to the first sample and was estimated at 0.1 and 0.2 points higher than the control and third samples, respectively. The increase in the percentage of sunflower isolate led to a deterioration in the taste of the developed samples. Therefore, the introduction into the recipe of processed cheese sunflower isolate in the amount of 3 % allowed to obtain, according to the results of organoleptic evaluation, higher results compared to other samples. The results of studies of structural and mechanical parameters of the developed samples of processed cheese with sunflower isolate suggest that the introduction of a herbal additive in the recipe increased the structural and mechanical properties. An increase in the penetration force indicates a thickening of the consistency. Compared to the control sample, this figure increased by 1.8 kN/m2. The elastic index, which characterizes the elasticity of the cheese mass of the control sample, was lower than the first by 0.6 kN/m2. The obtained results allow us to conclude that the introduction of sunflower isolate into the formulation leads to minor structural changes within the regulatory documentation. The study found that the control sample contained 11.36 % protein, and sample 1 – 11.55 %. It should be noted that the protein content has not changed significantly. Taking into account the results of the described studies, we note that the developed processed cheese with 3 % sunflower isolate meets the requirements of regulatory documentation for organoleptic and structural-mechanical parameters. The structural and mechanical characteristics of the first sample indicate that the introduction of a herbal additive into the formulation has a positive effect on penetration efforts and elasticity. However, the introduction of three percent sunflower isolate did not affect the protein content of the product.

Ethylthiosulfanylate is alkyl ester of thiosulfoacid and belongs to the class of thiosulfonate compounds. Structurally, thiosulfonates are synthetic analogues of natural phytoncides. It is known that, natural organic sulfur-containing compounds are characterized by antioxidant and detoxification properties against heavy metals toxicity. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of ethylthiosulfanylate, as a synthetic analogue of natural phytoncides, on the state of the pro/antioxidant system in the liver of laboratory rats exposed to Cr(VI). It was found that ethylthiosulfanylate exposure at a dose 100 mg/kg body weight daily for 14 days led to a decrease in the intensity of increasing of the lipid hydroperoxides (LHP) content in the rat liver caused by Cr(VI) action. In addition, ethylthiosulfanylate pretreatment prevented depletion of reduced glutathione (GSH) pool under the action of potassium dichromate oxidative stress and performed the accumulation of cellular GSH in rat liver.

Fucoidans are sulfate-rich polysaccharides with a wide variety of beneficial biological activities. The present study aimed to highlight the anti-inflammatory activity of fucoidan from the brown seaweed Sargassum autumnale (SA) against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Among the isolated fucoidan fractions, the third fraction (SAF3) showed a superior protective effect on LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. SAF3 inhibits nitric oxide (NO) production and expression of prostaglandin E-2 (PGE2) via downregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) expression in LPS-induced RAW 26.7 cells. SAF3 treatment decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 expression in LPS-induced cells. LPS stimulation activated NF-κB and MAPK signaling cascades in RAW 264.7 cells, while treatment with SAF3 suppressed them in a concentration-dependent manner. Existing outcomes confirm that SAF3 from S. autumnale possesses potent anti-inflammatory activity and exhibits good potential for application as a functional food ingredient or for the treatment of inflammation-related disorders.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a prominent global public health issue. Anti-inflammatory medications, immunosuppressants, and biological therapies are currently used as treatments. However, they are often unsuccessful and have negative consequences on human health. Thus, there is a tremendous demand for using natural substances, such as seaweed polysaccharides, to treat IBD’s main pathologic treatment targets. The cell walls of marine algae are rich in sulfated polysaccharides, including carrageenan in red algae, ulvan in green algae, and fucoidan in brown algae. These are effective candidates for drug development and functional nutrition products. Algal polysaccharides treat IBD through therapeutic targets, including inflammatory cytokines, adhesion molecules, intestinal epithelial cells, and intestinal microflora. This study aimed to systematically review the potential therapeutic effects of algal polysaccharides on IBD while providing the theoretical basis for a nutritional preventive mechanism for IBD and the restoration of intestinal health. The results suggest that algal polysaccharides have significant potential in complementary IBD therapy and further research is needed for fully understanding their mechanisms of action and potential clinical applications.

Airborne particulate matter (PM) originating from industrial processes is a major threat to the environment and health in East Asia. PM can cause asthma, collateral lung tissue damage, oxidative stress, allergic reactions, and inflammation. The present study was conducted to evaluate the protective effect of eckmaxol, a phlorotannin isolated from Ecklonia maxima, against PM-induced inflammation in MH-S macrophage cells. It was found that PM induced inflammation in MH-S lung macrophages, which was inhibited by eckmaxol treatment in a dose-dependent manner (21.0–84.12 µM). Eckmaxol attenuated the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in PM-induced lung macrophages. Subsequently, nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E-2 (PGE-2), and pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) were downregulated. PM stimulated inflammation in MH-S lung macrophages by activating Toll-like receptors (TLRs), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. Eckmaxol exhibited anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing the activation of TLRs, downstream signaling of NF-κB (p50 and p65), and MAPK pathways, including c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38. These findings suggest that eckmaxol may offer substantial therapeutic potential in the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

A global health concern has emerged as a response to the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The identification and inhibition of drug targets of SARS-CoV-2 is a decisive obligation of scientists. In addition to the cell entry mechanism, SARS-CoV-2 expresses a complicated replication mechanism that provides excellent drug targets. Papain-like protease (PLpro) and 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro) play a vital role in polyprotein processing, producing functional non-structural proteins essential for viral replication and survival in the host cell. Moreover, PLpro is employed by SARS-CoV-2 for reversing host immune responses. Therefore, if some particular compound has the potential to interfere with the proteolytic activities of 3CLpro and PLpro of SARS-CoV-2, it may be effective as a treatment or prophylaxis for COVID-19, reducing viral load, and reinstating innate immune responses. Thus, the present study aims to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 through 3CLpro and PLpro using marine natural products isolated from marine algae that contain numerous beneficial biological activities. Molecular docking analysis was utilized in the present study for the initial screening of selected natural products depending on their 3CLpro and PLpro structures. Based on this approach, Ishophloroglucin A (IPA), Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and Diphlorethohydroxycarmalol (DPHC) were isolated and used to perform in vitro evaluations. IPA presented remarkable inhibitory activity against interesting drug targets. Moreover, Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and DPHC also expressed significant potential as inhibitors. Finally, the results of the present study confirm the potential of IPA, Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and DPHC as inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that assesses the use of marine natural products as a multifactorial approach against 3CLpro and PLpro of SARS-CoV-2.

The increasing airborne particulate matter (PM) consisting of environmental contaminants such as dust, aerosols, and fibers has become a global concern by causing oxidative stress that leads to apoptosis and skin damage. The current study evaluated the protective effect of Caulerpa racemosa (CR) against PM-induced skin damage using human keratinocytes and a zebrafish model. The clionasterol-rich hexane fraction (CRHF2) of CR exhibited superior protective activity through downregulating intracellular reactive oxygen species levels and mitochondrial ROS levels, as well as the PM-induced increase in apoptotic body formation and upregulation of apoptotic signaling pathway proteins, along with sub-G1 cell accumulation dose-dependently. Furthermore, in vivo results showed that CRHF2 potentially downregulates PM-induced cell death, ROS, and NO production in the zebrafish model. Hence, the results evidenced that the protective effect of CRHF2 is caused by inhibiting oxidative stress and mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis in cells. Therefore, C. racemosa has the potential to be used in the development of pharmaceuticals to attenuate PM-induced skin diseases.

The foreign experience of regulatory reform implementation is considered. Particular attention is paid to the experience gained and the results of the use of “regulatory guillotine” as one of the kinds of regulatory reforms. The authors analyze the main preconditions and results of regulatory reforms and their impact on improved governance, creation of favorable conditions for business development, creating a positive investment climate. A certain degree of regulatory reform has become the standard for developed markets and for developing countries and are trying to take their place on stage one of the most developed countries. Study abroad experience in regulatory reforms in different countries of the world leads to the conclusion that the foundation for regulatory reform is a special system development and adoption of a special kind of legal acts - regulations. Unlike most legal acts, regulations, at the stage of the project should be accompanied by assessment or regulatory impact analysis, which provides comprehensive information about the possible positive or negative effects of the introduction of state regulation. Such adjustment shall be taken only when the overall benefits of regulation dominate the total cost of its implementation. The authors provide recommendations on the use of foreign experience in Ukraine

In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for the exponential stability of a class of nonlinear time-varying differential equations. We use the Lyapunov method with functions that are not necessarily differentiable; hence we extend previous results. We also provide an application to exponential stability for nonlinear time-varying control systems.
