Abstract: Rare meson decays are among the most sensitive probes of both heavy and light new physics. Among them, new physics searches using kaons benefit from their small total decay widths and the availability of very large datasets. On the other hand, useful complementary information is provided by hyperon decay measurements. We summarize the relevant phenomenological models and the status of the searches in a comprehensive list of kaon and hyperon decay channels. We identify new search strategies for under-explored signatures, and demonstrate that the improved sensitivities from current and next-generation experiments could lead to a qualitative leap in the exploration of light dark sectors.

Abstract: The Physics Beyond Colliders study investigates the feasibility of future projects and experiments using CERN facilities. In the scope of this study, a future operation of the NA62 experiment using the existing K12 beam line operated in beam dump mode is discussed. Such a setup allows for a search for dark sector particles, e.g. heavy neutral leptons, dark photons and axions. Production of these hypothetical particles requires the 400GeV/c proton beam extracted from the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) to be dumped on a massive dump collimator located in the first part of the K12 beam line. The decay of these dark sector particles, for example, into muons could be detected by the NA62 experimental setup. However, muons created in particle interactions with material and from in-flight decays of secondary hadrons pose a critical background for this kind of experiment. Magnetic sweeping serves as an efficient tool for reducing this background. This paper discusses the simulation studies conducted with the software framework G4beamline to reduce the expected single-muon rate for this experiment. The required beam line modifications, in particular the removal of the beryllium target and repositioning of the dump, have been implemented into this model. A comparison of simulated muon distributions and spectra available experimental data, already taken in test runs, has been made in order to validate the beam line simulation. Finally, additional beam line modifications to further suppress the muon background are elaborated upon. These studies show a potential further reduction of a factor four of the total single-muon rate relative to the nominal setup over the full momentum range, and up to a factor twenty considering only muons with momenta p > 1 5 G e V / c. Abstract: The integrated low-level trigger and data acquisition (TDAQ) system of the NA62 experiment at CERN is described. The requirements of a large and fast data reduction in a high-rate environment for a medium-scale, distributed ensemble of many different sub-detectors led to the concept of a fully digital integrated system with good scaling capabilities. The NA62 TDAQ system is rather unique in allowing full flexibility on this scale, allowing in principle any information available from the detector to be used for triggering. Abstract: Journal of high energy physics 02(2), 201 (2021). doi:10.1007/JHEP02(2021)201, The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports a study of a sample of $4 \times10^{9}$ tagged $\pi^0$ mesons from $K^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 (\gamma)$, searching for the decay of the $\pi^0$ to invisible particles. No signal is observed in excess of the expected background fluctuations. An upper limit of $4.4 \times10^{-9}$ is set on the branching ratio at 90% confidence level, improving on previous results by a factor of 60. This result can also be interpreted as a model-independent upper limit on the branching ratio for the decay $K^+ \to \pi^+ X$, where $X$ is a particle escaping detection with mass in the range 0.110-0.155 GeV$/c^2$ and rest lifetime greater than 100 ps. 6. New result on the search for the $K^+ \to \pi^+ \nu\bar\nu$ decay at the NA62 experiment at CERN

Abstract: The ultra-rare $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$ decay benefits from a precisely predicted branching ratio in the SM$BR(K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}) = (8.4\pm 1.0)\times10^{-11}$, being almost free from theoretical uncertainties, andmost importantly from a very high sensitivity to a variety ofbeyond-the-standard-model scenarios, making it one of the bestcandidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics in the flavoursector. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS, designed to measurethe branching ratio of $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$with a decay-in-flight technique, collected data in 2016-2018. Newresults from the analysis of 2018 data, the largest data set so farcollected, will be presented. The result will represent the mostaccurate measurement so far achieved of this ultra-rare decay.

Abstract: NA62 is a fixed target kaon experiment at the CERN SPS which aims at measuring the branching ratio of the $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ decay with 10% precision. This ultra-rare kaon decay is theoretically extremely clean and an ideal place to look for physics beyond the Standard Model. The NA62 experiment has been running in 2016-2018 and has accumulated a large amount of kaon decays. The final result of the $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ analysis using the 2016 dataset is discussed as well as prospects for the analysis of the 2017 dataset. NA62 also has sensitivity to various other rare and forbidden kaon decays, as well as some hidden sector models. Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN was designed to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare $(K^+\rightarrow \pi ^+\nu \bar {\nu })$ decay with a decay-in-flight technique. The Standard Model prediction for this branching ratio is very precise and this process is an ideal candidate for the indirect search of New Physics at high-mass scale. NA62 took physics data from 2016 to 2018: the results of the $(K^+\rightarrow \pi ^+\nu \bar {\nu })$ analysis in the 2016+2017 data sets are presented. Moreover, the high-intensity setup, the flexibility of its trigger system, and the hermetic coverage of the experiment make NA62 a useful tool for the search of exotic particles in the MeV–GeV range weakly coupled to the Standard Model, such as heavy neutral leptons and dark photons. The status of these analyses will be reviewed, along with other New Physics studies carried out at NA62, such as the search for lepton flavour and lepton number violating K + decays.

Abstract: The search for an invisible vector boson from $\pi^0$ decays at the NA62 experiment at CERN Super Proton Syncrotron (SPS) is discussed. Within the proposed models for physics beyond the SM, hidden sectors consisting of new, light, weakly-coupled particles are a particularly compelling possibility. Thanks to the high beam intensity, the extremely good performance of the photon detection systems, particle identification system and the detectors timing, NA62 is suited to search for these new particles. Here the search for a dark photon from $\pi^0$ decays using the $k^{+}\rightarrow \pi^+\pi ^0$, $\pi^0\rightarrow A^1\gamma$ decay chain is illustrated. The result from the analysis of a sub-sample of 2016 data is reported, corresponding to 1% of the full statistics collected in 2016-2018. A new upper limit on the $\pi^0\rightarrow A^1\gamma$ branching ratio has been set as a function of the dark photon mass, thus producing a new upper limit on the dark photon coupling parameter.

The Small Angle Calorimeter aims to provide an efficient veto for photons flying at angles down to zero with respect to the kaon flight direction. Abstract: The New CHOD is a scintillation hodoscope with a pad structure featuring a total of 148 counters. The signal from each pad is read out using wavelength-shifting fibers and two or four SensL SiPMs with a sensitive area of 3 × 3 mm2. This photodetector has 4774 pixels 35 × 35 μm2 in size. The key parameters (photon detection efficiency, dark current, crosstalk, and gain) were measured for 500 SiPMs.

Abstract: The decay $ {K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }v\bar v $, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than 10−10 in the Standard Model framework, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of such decay with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. The main goal of NA62 is to measure such Branching Ratio of $ {K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }v\bar v $ with an accuracy better than 20%. This will be achieved by collecting up to 100 $ {K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }v\bar v $ events with a background contamination at the level of 10%. The NA62 detector was commissioned in 2014 and 2015 and the experiment took physics data from 2015 to 2018. NA62 has already published the result of the 2016 data analysis. The 2017 data analysis is in progress, the single event sensitivity reached and the evaluation of the main backgrounds will be shown in this contribution.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN Super Proton Synchrotron was designed to measure BR(K+ → π+νv¯) with an in-fight technique, never used before for this measurement. This decay is characterised by a very precise prediction in the Standard Model. Its branching ratio, which is expected to be less than 10−10, is one of the best candidates to indicate indirect effects of new physics beyond SM at the highest mass scales. NA62 result on K+ → π+νv¯ from the full 2016 data set is described.Also a search for an invisible dark photon A′ has been performed, exploiting the efficient photon-veto capability and high resolution tracking of the NA62. The signal stems from the chain K+ → π+π0 followed by π0 → A′γ. No significant statistical excess has been identified. Upper limits on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass have been set, improving on the previous limits over the mass range 60 - 110 MeV/c2.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ with a decay-in-flight technique and took data in 2016–2018. The statistics collected in 2017 allows NA62 to achieve the best up–to–date single event sensitivity for K + → π + ν ν ¯ corresponding to more than 2 Standard Model K + → π + ν ν ¯ expected events. The analysis of the 2017 data has revealed 2 candidate K + → π + ν ν ¯ events, while 1.5 background were expected. Together with the candidate found on the 2016 data, this result leads to 1.85 × 10−10 as preliminary upper limit at 90% C.L. on the branching ratio of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ decay. The 2017 data also allow NA62 to achieve the best up–to–date sensitivity on the search for the π 0 → invisible decay.

Abstract: The decay $K^+$ $\rightarrow$ $\pi^+$ $\nu\overline{\nu}$ with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than $10^{-10}$ is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^+$ $\rightarrow$ $\pi^+$ $\nu\overline{\nu}$. In 2016, the first data set good for physics has been collected. The preliminary result on BR($K^+$ $\rightarrow$ $\pi^+$ $\nu\overline{\nu}$) from the full 2016 data set is presented here. Due to the high beam energy and hermetic detector coverage, NA62 has also the opportunity to directly search for a multitude of long-lived beyond- Standard-Model particles, such as dark photons, dark scalars, axion-like particles, and heavy neutral leptons. An overview of the broader NA62 physics program with status and prospects will be illustrated.

Abstract: The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a key element of particle identification in the NA62 experimental strategy. The detector fulfills different conditions: to distinguish pions from muons with a muon rejection factor of O(10 2 ) in the NA62 momentum range of operation, between 15 and 35 GeV/c; to measure particle arrival time in the decay region with a precision better than 100 ps; to provide fast signals and reference time to the NA62 trigger system. The main design aspects and functional characteristics, as well as the performance of the detector measured with the data taken in the first NA62 physics runs, will be summarized in this paper.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to conduct precision tests of the Standard Model by studying rare decays of charged kaons. NA62 took data in 2016-2018 and collected a large sample of charged kaon decays into final states with multiple charged particles. The sensitivity to a range of lepton flavour and lepton number violating kaon decays provided by this data set is improved over the previously reported measurements. Results from the searches of $K^+→ π^-l^+l^+$ decays with a partial NA62 data sample are presented.

Abstract: The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at CERN SPS was commissioned in 2014, but the optimal performance was achieved in 2016 after the precise mirror alignment with reconstructed tracks. The measurement and monitoring of basic performance parameters is discussed: ring radius resolution, ring centre resolution, single hit resolution and mean number of hits per ring. The performance is measured with 2016 data on the positron sample. Different contributions to the resolutions are calculated.

Abstract: The RICH detector of the NA62 experiment is one of the key detectors to achieve the muon rejection needed in the search for the K + → π + ν ν ¯ decay, performed by NA62. Since BR(K + → µ + ν) is higher than BR( K + → π + ν ν ¯ ) by more than 9 orders of magnitude, it represents one of the most relevant background contributions. Its rejection is performed with kinematic reconstruction of the event and identification of the charged particles in the final state (π + against µ +). The pion identification efficiency using the RICH detector is measured to be 83% in the momentum range between 15 and 35 GeV/c, with a misidentification probability for muons of 0.2%, while the track crossing time is measured with a resolution of 70 ps. The RICH detector is also exploited to provide trigger for charged particles with an efficiency greater than 99%.

Abstract: Precise measurements of the branching ratios for the flavor-changing neutral current decays $K\to\pi\nu\bar{\nu}$ can provide unique constraints on CKM unitarity and, potentially, evidence for new physics. It is important to measure both decay modes, $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ and $K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$, since different new physics models affect the rates for each channel differently. The goal of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is to measure the BR for the charged channel to within 10%. For the neutral channel, the BR has never been measured. KOTO, an experiment at J-PARC, should have enough data for the first observation of the decay by about 2021. We are designing the KLEVER experiment to measure BR($K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$) to $\sim$20% using a high-energy neutral beam at the CERN SPS starting in Run 4. The boost from the high-energy beam facilitates the rejection of background channels such as $K_L\to\pi^0\pi^0$ by detection of the additional photons in the final state. On the other hand, the layout poses particular challenges for the design of the small-angle vetoes, which must reject photons from $K_L$ decays escaping through the beam pipe amidst an intense background from soft photons and neutrons in the beam. Background from $\Lambda \to n\pi^0$ decays in the beam must also be kept under control. We present findings from our design studies, with an emphasis on the challenges faced and the potential sensitivity for the measurement of BR($K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$).

Abstract: The results of a search for π decays to a photon and an invisible massive dark photon at the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS are reported. From a total of 4.12 × 10 tagged π mesons, no signal is observed. Assuming a kinetic-mixing interaction, limits are set on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass, improving on previous searches in the mass range 60–110 MeV/c. The present results are interpreted in terms of an upper limit of the branching ratio of the electro-weak decay π→ γνν¯ , improving the current limit by more than three orders of magnitude.

Abstract: The fixed target experiment NA62 at CERN aims at measuring the ultra-rare decay K+→π+νν¯, whose branching ratio is of the order of 10−11. The main challenges faced by the experiment to achieve a 10% precision measurement are the required beam intensity and background rejection factor. The differential Cherenkov detector KTAG must be able to tag charged kaons in an unseparated hadron beam with an average particle rate of 750 MHz, of which 45 MHz are kaons, with a time precision of at least 100 ps and an efficiency higher than 95%. Abstract: The decay K + → π + v v ¯ , with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than 10−10, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the K + → π + v v ¯ with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allows NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for K + → π + v v ¯ , entering the domain of 10−10 single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The analysis data is reviewed and the preliminary result from the 2016 data set presented.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment is a fixed-target experiment at CERN SPS. The main goal of the experiment is to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare kaon decay $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\nu\bar\nu$. The NA62 detector allows also to study other rare kaon decays and to search for very weakly coupled particles of MeV-GeV mass-scale. The new ANTI-0 hodoscope is proposed and designed to veto events with charged halo particles entering the decay volume. It is now being assembled at CERN. The detector design, the performance simulation and the results of measurements with cosmic rays and test beams for the individual elements are presented. Abstract: The Gigatracker is the NA62 beam tracker. It is made of three 63 . 1 m m × 29 . 3 m m stations of 300 μ m × 300 μ m hybrid silicon pixel detectors installed in vacuum ( ∼ 1 0 − 6 m b a r ). The beam particles, flowing at 750 M H z , are traced in 4-dimensions by mean of time-stamping pixels with a design resolution of 200 p s . This performance has to be maintained despite the beam irradiation amounting to a yearly fluence of 2 × 1 0 14 1 MeV n eq ∕ cm 2 . The detector material minimization is paramount, as the detector faces the full beam. The station material budget is reduced to 0 . 5 % X 0 by using (HEP world first) micro-channels cooling. We will describe the detector design and performances during the NA62 runs.

Abstract: The decay $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than $10^{-10}$, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$ with a decay-in-flight technique. NA62 took data so far in 2016-2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allowed NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} v \overline{v}$, entering the domain of $10^{-10}$ single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. Thanks to the statistics collected in 2017, NA62 surpasses the present best sensitivity. The analysis strategy is reviewed and the preliminary result from the 2017 data set is presented.The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays into final states with multiple charged particles in 2016-2018. The sensitivity to a range of lepton flavour and lepton number violating kaon decays provided by this data set improves over the previously reported measurements. Results from the searches for these processes with a partial NA62 data sample are presented.

Abstract: The RICH detector of the NA62 experiment is one of the key detectors to achieve the muon rejection needed in the search for the ${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ decay, performed by NA62. Since $BR({K^ + } \to {\mu ^ + }\nu )$ is higher than $BR({K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu )$ by more than 9 orders of magnitude, it represents one of the most relevant background contributions. Its rejection is performed with kinematic reconstruction of the event and identification of the charged particles in the final state (pions against muons). The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector (RICH) gives a muon rejection higher than a factor 100 in the momentum range 15-35 GeV/c, and measures the track crossing time with a resolution better than 100 ps. It is also exploited to provide trigger for charged particles. In this contribution the RICH detector will be described, together with its basic performance, the mirrors alignment procedure and its usage in ${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ search.

Abstract: Fixed-target experiments present a complementary tool for studies of the beyond Standard Model physics in either direct searches for weakly coupled states in $\mathcal{O}(10^{7})$ − $\mathcal{O}(10^{9}) eV/ c^{2}$ mass scale or indirect searches for deviations in known processes induced by physics of much higher energy scales. The NA62 experiment dedicated to study of ultra-rare kaon decays is competitive on both these fronts thanks to its immense sensitivity and possibility of data-taking inbeam-dump mode,in which statistics of $\mathcal{O}(10^{16})\mathrm{POT}$ has been collected and another $\mathcal{O}(10^{18})\mathrm{POT}$ will follow in 2021-2023 run. This proceedings will present the published results, discuss the current status and show the future prospects of searches for exotic particles at NA62, specifically heavy neutral leptons, dark photons and axion-like particles.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN reports a search for the lepton number violating decays K+ -> pi(-)e(+)e(+) and K+ -> pi(-)mu(+)mu(+) using a data sample collected in 2017. No signals are observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions of these decays of 2.2 x 10(-10) and 4.2 x 10(-11) are obtained, respectively, at 90% confidence level. These upper limits improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively., It is a pleasure to express our appreciation to the staff of the CERN laboratory and the technical staffs of the participating laboratories and universities for their efforts in the operation of the experiment and data processing. Abstract: International audience; The GigaTracKer (GTK) is the beam spectrometer of the CERN NA62 experiment. The detector features challenging design specifications, in particular a peak particle flux reaching up to 2.0 MHz/mm$^2$, a single hit time resolution smaller than 200 ps and, a material budget of 0.5% X$_0$ per tracking plane. To fulfill these specifications, novel technologies were especially employed in the domain of silicon hybrid time-stamping pixel technology and micro-channel cooling. This article describes the detector design and reports on the achieved performance.

Abstract: Fixed target experiments are a useful tool in the search for very weakly coupled particles in the MeV-GeV range, which are of interest, e.g. as potential dark-matter mediators. The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is currently taking data for rare kaon decay measurements. Due to the high beam energy and hermetic detector coverage, NA62 also has the opportunity to directly search for a multitude of long-lived beyond-Standard-Model particles, such as dark photons, dark scalars, axion-like particles, and heavy neutral leptons. We review the status of these searches and give prospects for future data taking at NA62.

Abstract: The decay $K^+\to \pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than $10^{-10}$, is one of the best candidates to reveal indirect effects of new physics at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^+\to \pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allows NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity for $K^+\to \pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$, entering the domain of $10^{-10}$ single event sensitivity and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The data analysis is reviewed and the preliminary result from the 2016 data set presented.

Abstract: In this paper we present the results of the search for heavy neutral lepton (HNL) production in charged kaon decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015. Upper limits at the $10^{-7}$–$10^{-6}$ level are established on the elements $|U_{e4}|$ and $|U_{\mu 4}|$ of the extended neutrino mixing matrix for HNL masses in the range 170–448 $\text {MeV/c}^2$ and 250–376 $\text {MeV/c}^2$, respectively.

Abstract: The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a key element of particle identification in the NA62 experimental strategy. According to the NA62 requirements, the RICH identifies π + and μ + in the momentum range between 15 and 35 GeV/c with a muon rejection factor of O(10 2 ), measures the arrival time of charged particles with a precision better than 100 ps and is one of the main components of the NA62 trigger system. After the commissioning in 2014–2015, the RICH detector has been successfully operated during the 2016, 2017 and 2018 data taking periods of NA62. The main design aspects and operational characteristics of the NA62 RICH are described and results on its performance, directly measured with data, are presented.

Abstract: At CERN, the Detector Technologies (DT) group of the Experimental Physics (EP) department is actively investigating a number of innovative solutions for heat management and detector module assembly in HEP experiments. Among these, recent research carried out at EP-DT has focused on the development of microfluidic devices to cool silicon pixel detectors. In this respect, continuous advances in microengineering have opened the door to smaller and more efficient cooling devices capable of handling increasing power densities with a minimum mass penalty. In 2014, the NA62 experiment has pioneered the use of a silicon microfluidic system with single-phase liquid C 6F14 for the thermal management of its GigaTracKer (GTK) pixel detectors. Following the NA62 success, LHCb became the first LHC experiment to adopt a similar solution. The future upgrade of the LHCb Vertex Locator (VELO) will combine multiple silicon plates with embedded microchannels with an evaporative CO2 system to cool fifty-two pixel detector modules dissipating a total of about 2 kW. This paper will present the implementation of this novel approach for the construction and thermal management of the NA62 GTK and LHCb VELO pixel detectors. Future developments such as 3D-printed microfluidics and microchannels embedded on monolithic pixel detectors will also be discussed.

The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$ with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 has taken data firstly in 2016 with the aim to reach the SM sensitivity. It has then collected 10 times more statistics in 2017 and a similar amount of data is expected from the 2018 run. The preliminary result on the full 2016 data set and the prospects for future developments are presented here.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS was designed to measure the $BR(K^{+}\rightarrow \pi ^{+}\nu \bar \nu )$ with a decay-in-flight technique. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Statistics collected in 2016 allowed NA62 to reach the Standard Model sensitivity and to show the proof of principle of the experiment. The preliminary result from the 2016 data set is presented.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a fixed target experiment designed to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare Kaon decay K + → π + ν ν . The experiment uses an high-momentum K + decay in-flight technique to increase the rejection power of the main background: K + → π + π 0 . The Gigatracker is a hybrid silicon pixel detector, exposed to a 750 MHz high-energy charged hadron beam, built to give an accurate measurement of K + momentum and direction together with an high precision measurement of the beam particle arrival time (115 ps RMS resolution per plane). It comprises three stations placed right before the K + decay region and inserted around two achromats. The detector works in vacuum ( ∼ 1 0 − 6 mbar ) at about − 10 ° C . Each station is made of a 200 μ m thick silicon sensor readout by 10 TDCPix, custom 100 μ m thick ASICs, and cooled by an innovative double circuit silicon micro-channel cooling system. All these parts are designed to minimize the total material budget which, in the final detector, amounts to less than 1.5% X 0 for the three stations. In order to sustain the high rate of incoming particles, each TDCPix, operating in a self triggered mode, is equipped with four 3.2 Gb/s serializers sending data to the detector DAQ system based on a read-out card per TDCPix chip sending trigger-matched hits to 6 PC servers. I will describe the whole detector and present some of the results from data collected during the 2016 NA62 runs.

Abstract: A search for heavy neutral lepton production in $K^+$ decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015 is reported. Upper limits at the $10^{-7}$ to $10^{-6}$ level are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix $|U_{\ell 4}|^2$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) for heavy neutral lepton mass in the range $170-448~{\rm MeV}/c^2$. Abstract: Display Omitted Micro-channels cooling in silicon applied to particle detectors.Single phase cooling in micro-channels of pixel detector at CERN.Micro-fabrication technique and device pressure resistance.Kovar minimized fluidic connectors soldered on silicon.Mechanical precision jigs to assembly a micro-channels cooled detector at CERN. Silicon micro-channel cooling is being studied for efficient thermal management in application fields such as high power computing and 3D electronic integration. This concept has been introduced in 2010 for the thermal management of silicon pixel detectors in high energy physics experiments.Combining the versatility of standard micro-fabrication processes with the high thermal efficiency typical of micro-fluidics, it is possible to produce effective thermal management devices that are well adapted to different detector configurations. The production of very thin cooling devices in silicon enables a minimization of material of the tracking sensors and eliminates mechanical stresses due to the mismatch of the coefficient of thermal expansion between detectors and cooling systems.The NA62 experiment at CERN will be the first high particle physics experiment that will install a micro-cooling system to perform the thermal management of the three detection planes of its Gigatracker pixel detector.

Abstract: The design of the prototype detector produced for the NA62 experiment by the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is described. This detector is based on thin-walled drift tubes (straws) and is intended for operation in vacuum. The resolution and efficiency of the drift tubes for this prototype detector have been measured on the CERN SPS beams with different front-end electronic systems, gas mixtures, and beam rates. Recommendations for the full-scale detector design are formulated.

Abstract: The GigaTracker is a hybrid silicon pixel detector built for the NA62 experiment aiming at measuring the branching fraction of the ultra-rare kaon decay K+→π+νν¯ at the CERN SPS. The detector has to track particles in a beam with a flux reaching 1.3 MHz/mm2 and provide single-hit timing with 200 ps RMS resolution for a total material budget of less than 0.5% X0 per station. The tracker comprises three 60.8 mm×27 mm stations installed in vacuum (∼10$^{−6}$mbar) and cooled with liquid C6F14 circulating through micro-channels etched inside a few hundred micron thick silicon plates. Each station is composed of a 200 μm thick silicon sensor read out by 2×5 custom 100 μm thick ASICs, called TDCPix. Each chip contains 40×45 asynchronous pixels, 300 μm×300 μm each and is instrumented with 100 ps bin time-to-digital converters. In order to cope with the high rate, the TDCPix is equipped with four 3.2 Gb/s serialisers sending out the data. We will describe the detector and the results from the 2014 and 2015 NA62 runs.

Abstract: Microscope investigations of new-type thin-wall tubes (straws) produced for NA62 drift chambers revealed that they are semitransparent and allow anode wires to be observed under illumination by visible light. In this work it is shown that positions of wires in straws and thus the anode spacing in the drift chambers can be directly determined with a high accuracy (~5–10 µm) using a microscope mounted on a high-precision optical bench. These data are important for decreasing errors during reconstruction of charged particle track coordinates in the drift chambers. The proposed technique is much simpler than the X-ray or radioactive source methods.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment is designed to measure the ultra-rare decay $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$ branching ratio with a precision of $\sim 10\%$ at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). The trigger system of NA62 consists in three different levels designed to select events of physics interest in a high beam rate environment. The L0 Trigger Processor (L0TP) is the lowest level system of the trigger chain. It is hardware implemented using programmable logic. The architecture of the NA62 L0TP system is a new approach compared to existing systems used in high-energy physics experiments. It is fully digital, based on a standard gigabit Ethernet communication between detectors and the L0TP Board. The L0TP Board is a commercial development board, mounting a programmable logic device (FPGA). The primitives generated by sub-detectors are sent asynchronously using the UDP protocol to the L0TP during the entire beam spill period. The L0TP realigns in time the primitives coming from seven different sources and performs a data selection based on the characteristics of the event such as energy, multiplicity and topology of hits in the sub-detectors. It guarantees a maximum latency of 1 ms. The maximum input rate is about 10 MHz for each sub-detector, while the design maximum output trigger rate is 1 MHz. The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays in flight with a minimum bias trigger in 2007. Upper limits on the rate of the charged kaon decay into a muon and a heavy neutrino obtained from this data are reported for a range of heavy neutrino masses. Prospects for similar searches using data collected in 2015 are also reported.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is currently taking data to measure the ultra-rare decay K + &rarr, &pi, + &nu, &nu, &macr, This decay, whose Branching Ratio (BR) is predicted with high precision within the Standard Model (SM), is one of the best candidates to reveal the indirect effects of New Physics (NP) at the highest mass scales. The NA62 experiment is designed to measure BR ( K + &rarr, ) with a decay-in-flight technique, novel for this channel. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018, statistics collected in 2016 allows NA62 to reach the SM sensitivity for this decay, reaching the single event sensitivity (SES) and showing the proof of principle of the experiment. The preliminary result on BR ( K + &rarr, ) from the analysis of the 2016 data set is described.

Abstract: $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$ is one of the theoretically cleanest meson decay where to look for indirect effects of new physics complementary to LHC searches. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of the $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$ decay with 10\% precision. NA62 took data in 2015 and 2016 reaching the Standard Model sensitivity. The experiment will be reviewed, and recent results and prospects will be presented, also on heavy neutrinos limits.

Abstract: Search for heavy neutral lepton (HNL) production in charged kaon decays using the data collected by kaon experiments NA48/2 and NA62 at CERN are reported. Upper limits are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix for heavy neutral lepton mass in the range 130–450 MeV, improving on the results from previous HNL production search.
