Abstract

Microgrids (MGs) are developing owing to the rapidly growing distributed power generation systems. The MG controls the flexibility of the network to ensure the requirements of reliability and power quality are satisfied. A typical MG normally consists of dispersed generation resources, which are connected by power electronic inverters, storages, and non-linear loads. This study deals with a compensation control method of a photovoltaic grid-connected inverter using unity power factor (UPF) strategy in MG. In this case, the proposed control method can provide output currents without distortion and with the UPF. Further, it is able to increase the inverter output current to approximately 19 times of the value obtained conventionally. The proposed control method can be applied to three-phase grid interfaced converters such as DG inverters and can also be easily integrated into the conventional control scheme without installation of extra hardware. A theoretical analysis is presented and the performance of the proposed control method for a grid-connected inverter in a MG is evaluated through simulation results.

Abstract

This paper novel multi-criteria designing framework of a grid-connected hybrid photovoltaic (PV)/wind turbine (WT) sustainable and clean energy system with battery (BA) storage (HPV/WT/BA) considering cost, reliability and emission costs are presented dependent on actual irradiance and wind speed patterns to include an annual load. The designing objective is optimal sizing of the HPV/WT/BA system to minimize the total net present cost (TNPC) as well as the loss of load and CO2 emission cost with satisfying reliability constraint as energy not supplied probability (ENSP) considering stand-alone and grid-connected modes. The results showed that purchasing the power from network reduced the TNPC and also improved the hybrid system reliability and the reliability constraint is in the allowable range. The results also showed the superiority of the moth flame optimizer than the well-known particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm in achieving to lower TNPC and better reliability. Abstract

Direct current (DC)-link voltage ripple analysis is essential for determining harmonic noise and for DC-link capacitor design and selection in single-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverters. This paper provides an extensive theoretical analysis of DC-link voltage ripple for full-bridge (H-bridge) inverters, with simulation and experimental verifications, considering a DC source impedance (non-ideal DC voltage source). The DC voltage ripple amplitude is theoretically estimated as a function of the output current, both amplitude and phase angle, and the modulation index. It consists of a switching frequency component and a double-fundamental frequency component (i.e., 100 Hz), thereby both components are considered in the analysis. In particular, the peak-to-peak distribution, maximum amplitude, and root mean square (RMS) values of the voltage switching ripple over the fundamental period are obtained. Based on the DC voltage requirements, simple and effective guidelines for designing DC-link capacitors are obtained.
