Abstract

High-spin states of neutron deficient Trans-Lead nucleus $^{204}$At were populated up to $\sim 8\,{\rm MeV}$ excitation through the $^{12}$C + $^{197}$Au fusion evaporation reaction. Decay of the associated levels through prompt and delayed $\gamma$-ray emissions were studied to evaluate the underlying nuclear structure. The level scheme, which was partly known, was extended further. An isomeric $16^+$ level with observed lifetime $\tau=52 \pm 5\, {\rm ns}$, was established from our measurements. Attempts were made to interpret the excited states based on multi quasiparticle and hole structures involving $2f_{5/2}$, $1h_{9/2}$, and $1i_{13/2}$ shell model states, along with moderate core excitation. Magnetic dipole band structure over the spin parity range:~$16^+ - 23^+$ was confirmed and evaluated in more detail, including the missing cross-over $E2$ transitions. Band-crossing along the shears band was observed and compared with the evidence of similar phenomena in the neighbouring neutron deficient $^{202}$Bi, $^{205}$Rn isotones and the $^{203}$At isotope. Based on comparison of the measured $B(M1)/B(E2)$ values for transitions along the band with the semiclassical model based estimates, the shears band of $^{204}$At was established along with the level scheme., Comment: This preprint has not undergone peer review or any post-submission improvements or corrections. Abstract

High-spin states in Cs124 were populated in the Ni64(Ni64,p3n) reaction and the Gammasphere detector array was used to measure γ-ray coincidences. Both positive- and negative-parity bands, including bands with chiral configurations, have been extended to higher spin, where a shape change has been observed. The configurations of the bands before and after the alignment are discussed within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. The calculations suggest that the nucleus undergoes a shape transition from triaxial to prolate around spin I≃22 of the positive-parity states. The alignment gain of 8â.,, observed in the positive-parity bands, is due to partial alignment of several valence nucleons. This indicates the absence of band crossing due to paired nucleons in the bands.

Abstract

High-spin states in Xe124 have been populated using the Se80(Ca48,4n) reaction at a beam energy of 207 MeV and high-multiplicity, γ-ray coincidence events were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Six high-spin bands with large moments of inertia, similar to those observed in neighboring nuclei, have been observed. The experimental results are compared with calculations within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. It is suggested that the configurations of the bands involve excitations of protons across the Z=50 shell gap coupled to neutrons within the N=50-82 shell or excited across the N=82 shell closure.

Abstract

The electric quadrupole transition rates for the high spin yrast states of 104 Pd have been measured by using the DSAM technique. These values decrease with the increase of angular momentum which is a signature of anti-magnetic rotation. A numerical calcula- tion based on semi-classical particle plus rotor model for anti-magnetic rotation gives a good description of the experimental routhian and the transition rates. Abstract

Using mathematical formalism borrowed from dynamical systems theory, a complete analytical investigation of the critical behaviour of the stationary flow configuration for the low angular momentum axisymmetric black hole accretion provides valuable insights about the nature of the phase trajectories corresponding to the transonic accretion in the steady state, without taking recourse to the explicit numerical solution commonly performed in the literature to study the multi-transonic black hole accretion disc and related astrophysical phenomena. Investigation of the accretion flow around a non rotating black hole under the influence of various pseudo-Schwarzschild potentials and forming different geometric configurations of the flow structure manifests that the general profile of the parameter space divisions describing the multi-critical accretion is roughly equivalent for various flow geometries. However, a mere variation of the polytropic index of the flow cannot map a critical solution from one flow geometry to the another, since the numerical domain of the parameter space responsible to produce multi-critical accretion does not undergo a continuous transformation in multi-dimensional parameter space. The stationary configuration used to demonstrate the aforementioned findings is shown to be stable under linear perturbation for all kind of flow geometries, black hole potentials, and the corresponding equations of state used to obtain the critical transonic solutions. Finally, the structure of the acoustic metric corresponding to the propagation of the linear perturbation studied are discussed for various flow geometries used., Comment: 13 pages. 5 figures

Abstract

Research in the UK suggests that multi-componential interventions focusing on language and pre-literacy skills can improve children's reading and language skills. However, simple translations of such programmes may not produce equivalent effects in diverse communities. The reasons for this are multi-faceted and include factors beyond the rationale and content of the intervention programmes themselves. Understanding these factors is critical for creating programmes that will generalise across settings. In this review, we reflect upon challenges encountered in two reading and language intervention programmes in South America to identify community and cultural contextual factors that can influence the implementation and scalability of educational programmes. We use our findings to develop an education-specific framework to guide the development and implementation of high-quality evidence-based approaches to language and literacy intervention.
