We explore the phenomena of prethermalization in a many-body classical system of rotors under aperiodic drives characterised by waiting time distribution (WTD), where the waiting time is defined as the time between two consecutive kicks. We consider here two types of aperiodic drives: random and quasi-periodic. We observe a short-lived pseudo-thermal regime with algebraic suppression of heating for the random drive where WTD has an infinite tail, as observed for Poisson and binomial kick sequences. On the other hand, quasi-periodic drive characterised by a WTD with a sharp cut-off, observed for Thue-Morse sequence of kick, leads to prethermal region where heating is exponentially suppressed. The kinetic energy growth is analyzed using an average surprise associated with WTD quantifying the randomness of drive. In all of the aperiodic drives we obtain the chaotic heating regime for late time, however, the diffusion constant gets renormalized by the average surprise of WTD in comparison to the periodic case., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures

In this work, for the first time, a density functional theory (DFT) based comprehensive theoretical study is performed on the surface electronic properties of Bi2Se3 nanosheet in the presence of a surface capping layer as well as mechanical strain. The study systematically introduces a biaxial compressive and tensile strain up to 5% in natural, Sb2Se3 surface capped, and SbBiSe3 surface capped Bi2Se3, and the subsequent effects on the electronic properties are assessed from the surface energy band (E-k) structure, the density of states (DOS), band edge energy and bandgap variations, surface conducting state localization, and Fermi surface spin-textures. The key findings of this work are systematically analyzed from conducting surface state hybridization through bulk in the presence of surface capping layers and applied biaxial strain. The result demonstrates that the interplay of surface capping and strain can simultaneously tune the surface electronic structure, spin-momentum locking results from change in electronic localization and interactions. In essence, this work presents an extensive theoretical and design-level insight into the surface capping and biaxial strain co-engineering in Bi2Se3, which can potentially facilitate different topological transport for modern optoelectronics, spintronics, valleytronics, bulk photovoltaics applications of engineered nanostructured topological materials in the future.

We theoretically investigate the transport signature of single and multiple Floquet Majorana end modes~(FMEMs), appearing in an experimentally feasible setup with Rashba nanowire~(NW) placed in closed proximity to a conventional $s$-wave superconductor, in the presence of an external Zeeman field. Periodic drive causes the anomalous $\pi$-modes to emerge in addition to the regular $0$-modes in the driven system where the former does not exhibit any static analog. For single $0$- and/or $\pi$-FMEM, differential conductance exhibits a quantized value of $2e^{2}/h$ while we consider the sum over all the photon sectors, supporting Floquet sum rule. We examine the stability of this summed conductance against random onsite disorder. We further investigate the summed conductance in several cases hosting multiple~(more than one) $0$- or $\pi$-modes at the end of the NW. In these cases, we obtain quantized values of $n\times 2e^{2}/h$ of summed conductance with $n$ being the number of modes~($0$ / $\pi$) located at one end of NW. We repeat our analysis for another experimentally realizable model system known as helical Shiba chain. Moreover, we corroborate our results by computing the differential conductance for FMEMs using non-equilibrium Green's function method. We consider non-Hermitian (NH) analog of a second-order topological insulator, protected by chiral symmetry, in the presence of second-nearest neighbor hopping elements to theoretically investigate the interplay between long-range and topological order away from Hermiticity. In addition to the four zero-energy corner modes present in the first nearest neighbor hopping model, we uncover that the second nearest neighbor hopping introduces another topological phase with sixteen zero-energy corner modes. Importantly, the NH effects are manifested in altering the Hermitian phase boundaries for both the models. While comparing the complex energy spectrum under open boundary conditions, and bi-orthogonalized quadrupolar winding number (QWN) in real space, we resolve the apparent anomaly in the bulk boundary correspondence of the NH system as compared to the Hermitian counterpart by incorporating the effect of non-Bloch form of momentum into the mass term. The above invariant is also capable of capturing the phase boundaries between the two different topological phases where the degeneracy of the corner modes is evident, as exclusively observed for the second nearest neighbor model., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Considering a non-Hermitian version of $p$-wave Kitaev chain in the presence of additional second nearest neighbour tunneling, we study dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT) which accounts for the vanishing Loschmidt amplitude. The locus of the Fisher's zero traces a continuous path on the complex time plane for the Hermitian case while it becomes discontinuous for non-Hermitian cases. This further leads to the half-unit jumps in the winding number characterizing a dynamical topological aspect of DQPT for non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We investigate the topological phases that appear in an orbital version of the Benalcazar-Bernevig-Hughes (BBH) model in the presence of conventional spin-singlet $s$-wave superconductivity and with the possibility of tuning an in-plane magnetic field. We chart out the phase diagram by considering different boundary conditions, with the topology of the individual phases further examined by considering both the Wannier and entanglement spectra, as well as the Majorana polarization. For weak to moderate values of magnetic field and superconducting pairing amplitude, we find a second-order topological superconductor phase with eight zero-energy corner modes. Further increasing field or pairing, half of the corner states can be turned into zero-energy edge-localized modes, thus forming a type of hybrid-order phase. Then, we find two different putative first-order topological phases, a nodal and a nodeless phase, both with zero-energy flat bands localized along mirror-symmetric open edges. For the nodal phase, the flat bands are localized between the nodes in reciprocal space, while in the nodeless phase, with its a full bulk gap, the zero-energy boundary flat band spans the whole Brillouin zone., Comment: 14+3 pages, 14 figures

We study interaction-mediated magnetism on the surface of ABC-multilayer graphene driven by its zero-energy topological flat bands. Using the random-phase approximation we treat onsite Hubbard repulsion and find multiple competing magnetic states, due to both intra- and inter-valley scattering, with the latter causing an enlarged magnetic unit cell. At half-filling and when the Hubbard repulsion is weak, we observe two different ferromagnetic orders. Once the Hubbard repulsion becomes more realistic, new ferrimagnetic orders arise with distinct incommensurate intra- or inter-valley scattering vectors depending on interaction strength and doping, leading to a multitude of competing magnetic states., Comment: Main text: 7 pages and 4 figures, Supplementary Material: 11 pages and 8 figures

The presence of random disorder in a metallic system accounts for the localization of extended states in general. On the contrary, the presence of disorder can induce topological phases hosting metallic boundary states out of a non-topological system, giving birth to the topological Anderson insulator phase. In this context, we theoretically investigate the generation of an out of equilibrium higher-order topological Anderson phase in the presence of disorder potential in a time-periodic dynamical background. In particular, the time-dependent drive and the disorder potential concomitantly render the generation of Floquet higher-order topological Anderson insulator~(FHOTAI) phase, while the clean, undriven system is topologically trivial. We showcase the generation of FHOTAI hosting both $0$- and $\pi$-modes. Most importantly, we develop the real space topological invariant -- a winding number based on chiral symmetry to characterize the Floquet $0$ -- and $\pi$-modes distinctly. Considering the low-energy model of tilted Weyl semimetal, we study the electronic transmission through a periodically driven quantum well, oriented in the transverse direction with respect to the tilt. We adopt the formalism of Floquet scattering theory and investigate the emergence of Fano resonances as an outcome of matching between the Floquet sidebands and quasi-bound states. The Fano resonance energy changes linearly with the tilt strength suggesting the fact that tilt-mediated part of quasi-bound states energies depends on the above factor. Given a value of momentum parallel (perpendicular) to the tilt, we find that the energy gap between two Fano resonances, appearing for two adjacent values of transverse (collinear) momentum with respect to the tilt direction, is insensitive (sensitive) to the change in the tilt strength. Such a coupled (decoupled) behavior of tilt strength and the collinear (transverse) momentum can be understood from the tilt-mediated and normal parts of the quasi-bound state energies inside the potential well. We vary the other tilt parameters and chirality of the Weyl points to conclusively verify the exact form of the tilt-mediated part of the quasi-bound state energy that is the same as the tilt term in the static dispersion. The tilt orientation can significantly alter the transport in terms of evolution of Fano resoance energy with tilt momentum. We analytically find the explicit form of the bound state energy that further supports all our numerical findings. Our work paves the way to probe the tilt-mediated part of quasi-bound state energy to understand the complex interplay between the tilt and Fano resonance., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

Considering models with tilted linear and quadratic band touching dispersions, we analyze the effect of the transverse linear tilt on the transmission spectra through a harmonically driven potential well oriented longitudinally. Employing the Floquet scattering matrix formalism, we find Fano resonances as an outcome of matching between the Floquet sidebands and quasi-bound states, where the tilt renormalizes their energies and wave vectors. We find that the Fano resonance energy decreases (increases) for linear (quadratic) band touchings as the magnitude of the transverse momentum increases, indicating a distinct signature of the underlying band dispersion in the transmission profile. The sign of the product of the transverse momentum and the tilt also determines the relative shift in the Fano resonance energy with respect to the untilted case for both band dispersions, suggesting a possible tunability of the Fano resonance for tilted systems. Importantly, the tilt strength can also be directly determined by measuring the Fano resonance energy as function of the transverse momenta direction. We furthermore study the shot noise spectra and their differential property where we find an inflection region and undulation, respectively, around the Fano resonance energy. Interestingly, differential shot noise and transmission spectra both qualitatively behave in a similar fashion and might thus serve as important observables for future experiments on driven solid-state systems., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures

The symmetry-constrained topological invariant fails to explain the emergence of the special edge modes when system does not preserve discrete symmetries. The inversion or chiral symmetry broken SSH model is an example of one such system where one-sided edge state with finite energy appears at one end of the open chain. To investigate whether this special edge mode is of topological origin or not, we introduce a concept of relative phase between the components of a two-component spinor and define a winding number by the change of this relative phase over the one-dimensional Brillouin zone. The relative phase winds non-trivially (trivially) in accord with the presence (absence) of the one-sided edge mode inferring the bulk boundary correspondence. We extend this analysis to a two dimensional case where we characterize the non-trivial phase, hosting gapped one-sided edge mode, by the winding in relative phase only along a certain axis in the Brillouin zone. We demonstrate all the above findings from a generic parametric representation while topology is essentially determined by whether the underlying lower-dimensional projection includes or excludes the origin. We examine the response of the Fermi arc in the context of quasi-particle interference (QPI) with regard to a localized surface impurity on various three-dimensional Weyl semimetals (WSMs). Our study also reveals the variation of the local density of states (LDOS), obtained by Fourier transforming the QPI profile, on the two-dimensional surface. We use the $T$-matrix formalism to numerically (analytically and numerically) capture the details of the momentum space scattering in QPI (real space decay in LDOS), considering relevant tight-binding lattice and/or low-energy continuum models modeling a range of different WSMs. In particular, we consider multi-WSM (mWSM), hosting multiple Fermi arcs between two opposite chirality Weyl nodes (WNs), where we find a universal $1/r$-decay ($r$ measuring the radial distance from the impurity core) of the impurity-induced LDOS, irrespective of the topological charge. Interestingly, the inter-Fermi arc scattering is only present for triple WSMs, where we find an additional $1/r^3$-decay as compared to double and single WSMs. The untilted single (double) [triple] WSM shows a straight-line (leaf-like) [oval-shaped] QPI profile. The above QPI profiles are canted for hybrid WSMs where type-I and type-II Weyl nodes coexist, however, hybrid single WSM demonstrates strong non-uniformity, unlike the hybrid double and triple WSMs. We also show that the chirality and the positions of the Weyl nodes imprint marked signatures in the QPI profile. This allows us to distinguish between different WSMs, including the time-reversal-broken WSMs from the time-reversal-invariant WSM, even though both of the WSMs can host two pairs of Weyl nodes. Our study can thus shed light on experimentally obtainable complex QPI profiles and help differentiate different WSMs and their surface band structures., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures

We theoretically explore the Floquet generation of Majorana end modes~(MEMs) (both regular $0$- and anomalous $\pi$-modes) implementing a periodic sinusoidal modulation in chemical potential in an experimentally feasible setup based on a one-dimensional chain of magnetic impurity atoms having spin spiral configuration (out-of-plane N\'eel-type) fabricated on the surface of most common bulk $s$-wave superconductor. We obtain a rich phase diagram in the parameter space, highlighting the possibility of generating multiple $0$-/$\pi$-MEMs localized at the end of the chain. We also study the real-time evolution of these emergent MEMs, especially when they start to appear in the time domain. These MEMs are topologically characterized by employing the dynamical winding number. We observe that the existing perturbative analysis is unable to explain the numerical findings, indicating the complex mechanism behind the formation of the Floquet Shiba minigap, which is characteristically distinct from other setup e.g. Rashba nanowire model. We also discuss the possible experimental parameters in connection to our model. We investigate the interplay between the non-Hermiticity and finite temperature in the context of mixed state dynamical quantum phase transition (MSDQPT). We consider a $p$-wave superconductor model, encompassing complex hopping and non-Hermiticity that can lead to gapless phases in addition to gapped phases, to examine the MSDQPT and winding number via the intra-phase quench. We find that the MSDQPT is always present irrespective of the gap structure of the underlying phase, however, the profile of Fisher zeros changes between the above phases. Such occurrences of MSDQPT are in contrast to the zero-temperature case where DQPT does not take place for the gapped phase. Surprisingly, the half-integer jumps in winding number at zero-temperature are washed away for finite temperature in the gapless phase. We study the evolution of the minimum time required by the system to experience MSDQPT with the inverse temperature such that gapped and gapless phases can be differentiated. Time reversal and inversion symmetric materials fail to yield linear and nonlinear responses since they possess net zero Berry curvature. However, higher-order Hall response can be generated in these systems upon constraining the crystalline symmetries. Motivated by the recently discovered third-order Hall (TOH) response mediated by Berry connection polarizability, namely, the variation the Berry connection with respect to an applied electric field, here we investigate the existence of such Hall effect in the surface states of hexagonal warped topological insulator (e.g., Bi$_2$Te$_3$) under the application of electric field only. Using the semiclassical Boltzmann formalism, we investigate the effect of tilt and hexagonal warping on the Berry connection polarizability tensor and consequently, the TOH effect provided the Dirac cone remains gapless. We find that the magnitude of the response increases significantly with increasing the tilt strength and warping and therefore, they can provide the tunability of this effect. In addition, we also explore the effect of chemical doping on TOH response in this system. Interestingly, we show based on the symmetry analysis, that the TOH can be the leading-order response in this system which can directly be verified in experiments., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

We propose a practically feasible time-periodic sinusoidal drive protocol in onsite mass term to generate the two-dimensional~(2D) Floquet second-order topological superconductor, hosting both the regular $0$- and anomalous $\pi$-Majorana corner modes~(MCMs) while starting from a static 2D topological insulator/$d$-wave superconductor heterostructure setup. We theoretically study the local density spectra and the time dynamics of MCMs in the presence of such drive. The dynamical MCMs are topologically characterized by employing the average quadrupolar motion. Furthermore, we employ the Floquet perturbation theory~(FPT) in the strong driving amplitude limit to provide analytical insight into the problem. We compare our exact (numerical), and the FPT results in terms of the eigenvalue spectra and the time dynamics of the MCMs. We emphasize that the agreement between the exact numerical and the FPT results are more prominent in the higher frequency regime for close to the $0$-quasi-energy mode., Comment: This is the published version

We theoretically investigate a practically realizable Floquet topological superconductor model, based on a one-dimensional Rashba nanowire and proximity induced $s$-wave superconductivity in the presence of a Zeeman field. The driven system hosts regular $0$- and anomalous $\pi$-Majorana end modes~(MEMs). By tuning the chemical potential and the frequency of the drive, we illustrate the generation of multiple MEMs in our theoretical set up. We utilize the chiral symmetry operator to topologically characterize these MEMs via a dynamical winding number constructed out of the periodized evolution operator. Interestingly, the robustness of the $0$- and $\pi$-MEMs is established in the presence of on-site time-independent random disorder potential. We employ the twisted boundary condition to define the dynamical topological invariant for this translational-symmetry broken system. The interplay between the Floquet driving and the weak disorder can stabilize the MEMs giving rise to a quantized value of the dynamical winding number for a finite range of drive parameters. This observation might be experimentally helpful in scrutinizing the topological nature of the Floquet MEMs. We showcase another driving protocol namely, a periodic kick in the chemical potential to study the generation of Floquet MEMs in our setup. The dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs) and the associated winding numbers have been extensively studied in the context Hermitian system. We consider the non-Hermitian analogue of $p$-wave superconductor, supporting Hermitian gapless phase with complex hopping, in presence of on-site or superconducting loss term. This allows us to investigate the effect of non-Hermitian gapless phases on the DQPTs in addition to the Hermitian gapless phases. Our findings indicate that contour analysis of the underlying Hamiltonian, enclosing the origin and/or exceptional points, can predict the occurrences of DQPTs except the quench within the gapless phases. For the Hermitian case with initial and final Hamiltonians both being Hermitian, we find non-monotonic integer jump for the winding number as the hallmark signature of the gapless phase there. For the hybrid case with initial and final Hamiltonians being Hermitian and non-Hermitian respectively, winding number exhibits integer spike in addition to the non-monotonic integer jumps. For the non-Hermitian case with initial and final Hamiltonians both being non-Hermitian, the winding number show half-integer jumps for lossy superconcuctivity that does not have any Hermitian analogue. On the other hand, the integer jumps in winding number is observed for lossy chemical potential. We understand our findings by connecting them with the profile of Fisher zeros and number of exceptional points and/or origin., Comment: 12 pages, 17 figures

Being motivated by intriguing phenomena such as the breakdown of conventional bulk boundary correspondence and emergence of skin modes in the context of non-Hermitian (NH) topological insulators, we here propose a NH second-order topological superconductor (SOTSC) model that hosts Majorana zero modes (MZMs). Employing the non-Bloch form of NH Hamiltonian, we topologically characterize the above modes by biorthogonal nested polarization and resolve the apparent breakdown of the bulk boundary correspondence. Unlike the Hermitian SOTSC, we notice that the MZMs inhabit only one corner out of four in the two-dimensional NH SOTSC. We extend the static MZMs into the realm of Floquet drive. We find anomalous $\pi$-mode following low-frequency mass-kick in addition to the regular $0$-mode that is usually engineered in a high-frequency regime. We further characterize the regular $0$-mode with biorthogonal Floquet nested polarization. The higher-order corner modes for quantum anomalous Hall insulators in $C_3$ symmetry broken honeycomb lattice have been engineered recently. Here we consider an extended Haldane model in presence of inversion symmetry breaking sub-lattice mass, time-reversal symmetry breaking Zeeman field and spin-orbit coupling interaction where we find that only the quantum spin Hall insulator can host the second-order dipolar phase while the remaining two first-order topological phases do not morph into the latter. Remarkably, four-fold degeneracy of zero-energy dipolar states can be reduced to two-fold under the application (withdrawn) of sub-lattice mass (Zeeman field) term when the spin-orbit coupling is already present. On the other hand, the sub-lattice mass and Zeeman field terms compete with each other to pin down the two mid-gap states at zero-energy in the absence or presence of spin-orbit coupling. Interestingly, the bulk-polarization can topologically characterize the dipolar phase irrespective of the energy of the mid-gap states as long as inversion symmetry is preserved. The effective gap criterion can qualitatively mimic the extent of SOT phase originated by the interplay between finite Zeeman exchange field, sub-lattice mass, and SOC interaction., Comment: 7 pages, and 6 figures

Much has been learned about the topological transport in real materials. We investigate the interplay between magnetism and topology in the magneto-transport of PrRhC$_2$. The four-fold degeneracy reduces to two-fold followed by non-degenerate Weyl nodes when the orientation of the magnetic quantization axis is changed from easy axis to body-diagonal through face-diagonal. This engenders chirality imbalance between positive and negative chirality Weyl nodes around the Fermi energy. We observe a significant enhancement in the chiral anomaly mediated response such as planar Hall conductivity and longitudinal magneto-conductivity, due to the emergence of chirality imbalance upon orienting the magnetic quantization axis to body-diagonal. The angular variations of the above quantities for different magnetic quantization axis clearly refer to the typical signature of planar Hall effect in Weyl semimetals. We examine the transport properties of magnetically doped topological insulator (TI) thin films subject to correlated non-magnetic disorder. For the disorder we choose a quasi-periodic potential with a random phase. We restrict the disorder to a central region, which is coupled to two leads in a clean quantum spin Hall insulator (QSHI) state and concentrate on different orientations of the quasi-periodicity in the two-dimensional central region. In the case of a diagonally oriented or purely longitudinal quasi-periodicity we find different topological Anderson insulator (TAI) phases, with a quantum anomalous Hall insulator (QAHI), a quantum spin Chern insulator (QSCI), or a QSHI phase being realized before the Anderson insulation takes over at large disorder strength. Quantized transport from extended bulk states is found for diagonal quasi-periodicity in addition to the above TAI phases that are also observed for the case of uncorrelated disorder. For a purely transverse orientation of the quasi-periodicity the emerging QSHI and QSCI phases persist to arbitrarily strong disorder potential. The quantum Hall effect in three-dimensional Weyl semimetal (WSM) receives significant attention for the emergence of the Fermi loop where the underlying two-dimensional Hall conductivity, namely, sheet Hall conductivity, shows quantized plateaus. Considering the tilted lattice models for multi Weyl semimetals (mWSMs), we systematically study the Landau levels (LLs) and magneto-Hall conductivity in the presence of parallel and perpendicular (with respect to the Weyl node's separation) magnetic field, i.e., $\mathbf{ B}\parallel z$ and $\mathbf{B}\parallel x$, to explore the impact of tilting and non-linearity in the dispersion. We make use of two (single) node low-energy models to qualitatively explain the emergence of mid-gap chiral (linear crossing of chiral) LLs on the lattice for $\mathbf{ B}\parallel z$ ($\mathbf{ B}\parallel x$). Remarkably, we find that the sheet Hall conductivity becomes quantized for $\mathbf{ B}\parallel z$ even when two Weyl nodes project onto a single Fermi point in two opposite surfaces, forming a Fermi loop with $k_z$ as the good quantum number. On the other hand, the Fermi loop, connecting two distinct Fermi points in two opposite surfaces, with $k_x$ being the good quantum number, causes the quantization in sheet Hall conductivity for $\mathbf{ B}\parallel x$. The quantization is almost lost (perfectly remained) in the type-II phase for $\mathbf{ B}\parallel x$ ($\mathbf{ B}\parallel z$). Interestingly, the jump profiles between the adjacent quantized plateaus change with the topological charge for both of the above cases. The momentum-integrated three-dimensional Hall conductivity is not quantized; however, it bears the signature of chiral LLs as resulting in the linear dependence on $\mu$ for small $\mu$. We propose and study generic multi-Weyl semimetal (mWSM) lattice Hamiltonians that break particle-hole symmetry. These models fall into two categories: model I (model II) where the gap and tilt terms are coupled (decoupled) can host type-I and type-II Weyl nodes simultaneously (separately) in a hybrid phase (type-I and type-II phases, respectively). We concentrate on the question of how anisotropy and non-linearity in the dispersions, gaps and tilt terms influence diffusive second order transport quantities namely, the circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) and the Berry curvature dipole (BCD) as well as first order Magnus Hall effect (MHE) in the ballistic limit. The signatures of topological charges are clearly imprinted in the quantized CPGE response for the hybrid mWSM phase in model I. Such a quantization is also found in the type-I WSM phase for model II, however, the frequency profiles of the CPGE in these two cases is distinctively different owing to their different band dispersion irrespective of the identical topological properties. The contributions from the vicinity of Weyl nodes and away from the WNs are clearly manifested in the BCD response, respectively, for model I model II. The Fermi surface properties for the activated momentum lead to a few hallmark features on the MHE for both the models. Furthermore, we identify distinguishing signatures of the above responses for type-I, type-II and hybrid phases to provide an experimentally viable probe to differentiate these WSMs phases., Comment: 18 pages and 9 figures

We propose a three-step periodic drive protocol to engineer two-dimensional~(2D) Floquet quadrupole superconductors and three-dimensional~(3D) Floquet octupole superconductors hosting zero-dimensional Majorana corner modes~(MCMs), based on unconventional $d$-wave superconductivity. Remarkably, the driven system conceives four phases with only $0$ MCMs, no MCMs, only anomalous $\pi$ MCMs, and both regular $0$ and anomalous $\pi$ MCMs. To circumvent the subtle issue of characterizing $0$ and $\pi$ MCMs separately, we employ the periodized evolution operator to architect the dynamical invariants, namely quadrupole and octupole motion in 2D and 3D, respectively, that can distinguish different higher order topological phases unambiguously.Our study paves the way for the realization of dynamical quadrupolar and octupolar topological superconductors., Comment: This is the published version

After extensive investigation on the Floquet second-order topological insulator (FSOTI) in two dimension (2D), here we propose two driving schemes to systematically engineer the hierarchy of Floquet first-order topological insulator, FSOTI, and Floquet third-order topological insulator in three dimension (3D). Our driving protocols allow these Floquet phases to showcase regular $0$, anomalous $\pi$, and hybrid $0$-$\pi$-modes in a unified phase diagram, obtained for both 2D and 3D systems, while staring from the lower order topological or non-topological phases. Both the step drive and the mass kick protocols exhibit the analogous structure of the evolution operator around the high symmetry points. These eventually enable us to understand the Floquet phase diagrams analytically and the Floquet higher order modes numerically based on finite size systems. The number of $0$ and $\pi$-modes can be tuned irrespective of the frequency in the step drive scheme while we observe frequency driven topological phase transitions for the mass kick protocol. After exploring much on two-dimensional higher-order topological superconductors (HOTSCs) hosting Majorana corner modes (MCMs) only, we propose a simple fermionic model based on a three-dimensional topological insulator proximized with $s$-wave superconductor to realize Majorana hinge modes (MHMs) followed by MCMs under the application of appropriate Wilson-Dirac perturbations. We interestingly find that the second-order topological superconductor, hosting MHMs, appears above a threshold value of the first type perturbation while the third-order topological superconducting phase, supporting MCMs, immediately arises incorporating infinitesimal perturbation of the second kind. Thus, a hierarchy of HOTSC phases can be realized in a single three-dimensional model. Additionally, the application of bulk magnetic field is found to be instrumental in manipulating the number of MHMs, leaving the number for MCMs unaltered. We analytically understand these above-mentioned numerical findings by resorting to the low energy model. We further characterize these topological phases with a distinct structure of the Wannier spectra. From the practical point of view, we manifest quantized transport signatures of these higher-order modes. Recently, time-reversal symmetric but inversion broken systems with non-trivial Berry curvature in the presence of a built-in electric field have been proposed to exhibit a new type of linear Hall effect in ballistic regime, namely, the Magnus Hall effect. The transverse current here is caused by the Magnus velocity that is proportional to the built-in electric field allowing us to examine the Magnus Hall conductivity and Magnus Nernst conductivity with chemical potential. Starting with two-dimensional (2D) topological systems, we find that warping induced asymmetry in both the Fermi surface and Berry curvature can in general enhance the Magnus Hall response for monolayer graphene and surface states of topological insulator. Interestingly, strain can change the Fermi surface character substantially that further results in distinct behavior of Magnus transport coefficients as we observe in bilayer graphene. Going beyond 2D systems, we also investigate the Magnus Hall and Nernst responses in three-dimensional multi-Weyl semimetals (mWSMs). Remarkably, Magnus responses can only survive for the tilted WSMs, and therefore can be measured as a tool to distinguish between the untilted and tilted WSMs in experiments. Considering a non-centrosymmetric, non-magnetic double Weyl semimetal (WSM) SrSi$_2$, we investigate the electron and hole pockets in bulk Fermi surface behavior that enables us to characterize the material as a type-I WSM. We study the structural handedness of the material and correlate it with the distinct surface Fermi surface at two opposite surfaces following an energy evolution. The Fermi arc singlet becomes doublet with the onset of spin orbit coupling that is in accordance with the topological charge of the Weyl Nodes (WNs). A finite energy separation between WNs of opposite chirality in SrSi$_2$ allows us to compute circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE). Followed by the three band formula, we show that CPGE is only quantized for Fermi level chosen in the vicinity of WN residing at higher value of energy. Surprisingly, for the other WN of opposite chirality in the lower value of energy, CPGE is not found to be quantized. Such a behavior of CPGE is in complete contrast to the time reversal breaking WSM where CPGE is quantized to two opposite plateau depending on the topological charge of the activated WN. We further analyze our finding by examining the momentum resolved CPGE. Finally we show that two band formula for CPGE is not able to capture the quantization that is apprehended by the three band formula., Comment: 11 pages and 7 figures

Having established the fact that interacting classical kicked rotor systems exhibit long-lived prethermal phase with quasi-conserved average Hamiltonian before entering into chaotic heating regime, we use spatio-temporal fluctuation correlation of kinetic energy to probe the above dynamic phases. We remarkably find the diffusive transport of fluctuation in the prethermal regime reminding us the underlying hydrodynamic picture in a generalized Gibbs ensemble with a definite temperature that depends on the driving parameter and initial conditions. On the other hand, the heating regime, characterized by a diffusive growth of kinetic energy, can sharply localize the correlation at the fluctuation center for all time. Consequently, we attribute non-diffusive and non-localize structure of correlation to the crossover regime, connecting the prethermal phase to the heating phase, where the kinetic energy displays complicated growth structure. We understand these numerical findings using the notion of relative phase matching where prethermal phase (heating regime) refers to an effectively coupled (isolated) nature of the rotors. We exploit the statistical uncorrelated nature of the angles of the rotors in the heating regime to find the analytical form of the correlator that mimics our numerical results in a convincing way., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures

We consider a time reversal symmetry (TRS) broken Kane-Mele model superimposed with Haldane model and chart out the phase diagram using spin Chern number to investigate the fate of quantum anomalous Hall insulator (QAHI) and quantum spin Hall insulator (QSHI) phases. Interestingly, in addition to QSHI and QAHI phase, the phase diagram unveils quantum anomalous spin Hall insulator (QASHI) phase where only one spin sector is topological. We also find multicritical points where three / four topological phase boundaries coalesce. These topological phases are protected by an effective TRS and a composite anti-unitary particle-hole symmetry leading to remarkable properties of edge modes. We find spin-selective, spin-polarized and spin-neutral edge transport in QASHI, QSHI and QAHI phases respectively. Our study indicates that the robustness of the topological phase mainly depends on the spin gap which does not necessarily vanish at the Dirac points across a topological phase transition. We theoretically investigate the Floquet generation of second-order topological superconducting (SOTSC) phase in the high-temperature platform both in two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D). Starting from a $d$-wave superconducting pairing gap, we periodically kick the mass term to engineer the dynamical SOTSC phase within a specific range of the strength of the drive. Under such dynamical breaking of time-reversal symmetry (TRS), we show the emergence of the \textit{weak} SOTSC phase, harboring eight corner modes \ie two zero-energy Majorana per corner, with vanishing Floquet quadrupole moment. On the other hand, our study interestingly indicates that upon the introduction of an explicit TRS breaking Zeeman field, the \textit{weak} SOTSC phase can be transformed into \textit{strong} SOTSC phase, hosting one zero-energy Majorana mode per corner, with quantized quadrupole moment. We also compute the Floquet Wannier spectra that further establishes the \textit{weak} and \textit{strong} nature of these phases. We numerically verify our protocol computing the exact Floquet operator in open boundary condition and then analytically validate our findings with the low energy effective theory (in the high-frequency limit). The above protocol is applicable for 3D as well where we find one dimensional (1D) hinge mode in the SOTSC phase. We then show that these corner modes are robust against moderate disorder and the topological invariants continue to exhibit quantized nature until disorder becomes substantially strong. Much having learned about Floquet dynamics of pseudospin-$1/2$ system namely, graphene, we here address the stroboscopic properties of a periodically kicked {three-band fermionic system such as $\alpha$-T$_3$ lattice. This particular model provides an interpolation between graphene and dice lattice via the continuous tuning of the parameter $\alpha$ from 0 to 1.} In the case of dice lattice ($\alpha=1$), we reveal that one can, in principle, engineer various types of low energy dispersions around some specific points in the Brillouin zone by tuning the kicking parameter in the Hamiltonian along a particular direction. Our analytical analysis shows that one can experience different quasienergy dispersions for example, Dirac type, semi-Dirac type, gapless line, absolute flat quasienergy bands, depending on the specific values of the kicking parameter. Moreover, we numerically study the dynamics of a wave packet in dice lattice. The quasienergy dispersion allows us to understand the instantaneous structure of wave packet at stroboscopic times. We find a situation where absolute flat quasienergy bands lead to a complete dynamical localization of the wave packet. {Aditionally, we calculate the quasienergy spectrum numerically for $\alpha$-T$_3$ lattice. A periodic kick in a perpendicular (planar) direction breaks (preserves) the particle-hole symmetry for $0<\alpha<1$. Electronic bands featuring nontrivial bulk topological invariant manifest through robust gapless modes at the boundaries, e.g., edges and surfaces. As such this bulk-boundary correspondence is also operative in driven quantum materials. For example, a suitable periodic drive can convert a trivial insulator into a Floquet topological insulator (FTI) that accommodates nondissipative dynamic gapless modes at the interfaces with vacuum. Here we theoretically demonstrate that dislocations, ubiquitous lattice defects in crystals, can probe FTIs as well as unconventional $\pi$-trivial insulator in the bulk of driven quantum systems by supporting normal and anomalous modes, localized near the defect core. Respectively, normal and anomalous dislocation modes reside at the Floquet zone center and boundaries. We exemplify these outcomes specifically for two-dimensional (2D) Floquet Chern insulator and $p_x+ip_y$ superconductor, where the dislocation modes are respectively constituted by charged and neutral Majorana fermions. We study the role of time reversal symmetry (TRS) in the circular photogalvanic (CPG) responses considering chiral Weyl semimetal (WSM) while a quantized CPG response is guaranteed by broken of both inversion symmetry (IS) and mirror symmetries. The TRS broken WSM yields one left and one right chiral Weyl nodes (WNs) while there are two left and right chiral WNs for TRS invariant WSM. We show that these features can potentially cause the quantization of CPG response at higher values compared to the topological charge of the underlying WSM. This is further supported by the fact that Berry curvature and velocity behave differently whether the system preserves or breaks the TRS. We find the CPG responses for TRS invariant type-II WSM to be quantized at two and four times the topological charge of the activated WNs while the chemical potential are respectively chosen in the vicinity of energies associated with left and right chiral WNs. By contrast, irrespective of the above choice of the chemical potential, the quantization in CPG response is directly given by the topological charge of the activated WNs for TRS broken case. Interestingly, we notice non-quantized peak in CPG response when energies of WNs associated with opposite chiralities are close to each other as it is the case for TRS invariant type-I WSM considered here. Moreover, we show that the tilt can significantly modify the CPG response as velocity in the tilt direction changes which enters into the CPG tensor through the Fermi distribution function. Given these exciting outcomes, the second order CPG response emerges as a useful indicator to characterize the system under consideration. We theoretically investigate the Floquet generation of second-order topological superconducting (SOTSC) phase, hosting Majorana corner modes (MCMs), considering a quantum spin Hall insulator (QSHI) with proximity induced superconducting $s$-wave pairing in it. Our dynamical prescription consists of the periodic kick in time-reversal symmetry breaking in-plane magnetic field and four-fold rotational symmetry breaking mass term while these Floquet MCMs are preserved by anti-unitary particle-hole symmetry. The first driving protocol always leads to four zero energy MCMs (i.e. one Majorana per corner) as a sign of a {\it{strong}} SOTSC phase. Interestingly, the second protocol can result in a {\it{weak}} SOTSC phase, harbouring eight zero energy MCMs (two Majorana states per corner), in addition to the {\it{strong}} SOTSC phase. We characterize the topological nature of these phases by Floquet quadrupolar moment and Floquet Wannier spectrum. Following a general protocol of periodically driving static first-order topological phases (supporting surface states) with suitable discrete symmetry breaking Wilson-Dirac masses, here we construct a hierarchy of higher-order Floquet topological phases in three dimensions. In particular, we demonstrate realizations of both second-order and third-order Floquet topological states, respectively supporting dynamic hinge and corner modes at zero quasienergy, by periodically driving their static first-order parent states with one and two discrete symmetry breaking Wilson-Dirac mass(es). While the static surface states are characterized by codimension $d_c=1$, the resulting dynamic hinge (corner) modes, protected by \emph{antiunitary} spectral or particle-hole symmetries, live on the boundaries with $d_c=2$ $(3)$. We discuss the circularly polarized light (of amplitude $A_0$ and frequency $\omega$) driven thermo-electric transport properties of type-I and type-II multi-Weyl semimetals (mWSMs) in the high frequency limit. Considering the low energy model, we employ the Floquet-Kubo formalism to compute the thermal Hall and Nernst conductivities for both types of mWSMs. We show that the anisotropic nature of the dispersion for arbitrary integer monopole charge $n>1$ plays an important role in determining the effective Fermi surface behavior; interestingly, one can observe momentum dependent corrections in Floquet mWSMs in addition to momentum independent contribution as observed for Floquet single WSMs. Apart from the non-trivial tuning of the Weyl node position $\pm Q \to \pm Q- A_0^{2n}/\omega$, our study reveals that the momentum independent terms result in leading order contribution in the conductivity tensor. This has the form of $n$ times the single WSMs results with effective chemical potential $\mu \to \mu -A_0^{2n}/\omega$. On the other hand, momentum dependent corrections lead to sub-leading order terms which are algebraic function of $\mu$ and are present for $n>1$. Remarkably, this analysis further allows us to distinguish type-I mWSMs from their type-II counterparts. For type-II mWSMs, we find that the transport coefficients for $n\geq 2$ exhibit algebraic dependence on the momentum cutoff in addition to the weak logarithmic dependence as noticed for $n=1$ WSMs. We demonstrate the variation and qualitative differences of transport coefficients between type-I and type-II mWSM as a function of external driving parameter $\omega$., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

We drive periodically a two-dimensional diamond-octagon lattice model by switching between two Hamiltonian corresponding two different magnetic flux piercing through diamond plaquette to investigate the generation of topological flat bands. We show that in this way, the flatness and topological nature of all the bands of the model can be tuned and Floquet quasi-sates can be made topologically flat while its static counterpart does not support the existence of topology and flatness together. By redefining the flatness accordingly in the context of non-equilibrium dynamics and correctly justifying it using the Floquet joint density of states, one indeed obtains a better control of the desired result when the input parameter space composed of temporal window associated with the step Hamiltonian and flux becomes larger than the static parameter space consisting of magnetic flux only. Interestingly, we find the generation of flux current. We systematically analyse the work done and flux current in the asymptotic limit as a function of input parameters to show that topology and flatness both share a close connection to the flux current and work done, respectively. We finally extend our investigation to the aperiodic array of step Hamiltonian, where we find that the heating up problem can be significantly reduced if the initial state is substantially flat as initial the large degeneracy of states prevents the system from absorbing energy easily from the aperiodic driving. We additionally show that the heating can be reduced if the values of the magnetic flux in the step Hamiltonian are small, the duration of these flux are unequal and on the initial flatness of the band. We develop a real space renormalization group (RSRG) scheme by appropriately inserting the long range hopping $t\sim r^{-\alpha}$ with nearest neighbour interaction to study the entanglement entropy and maximum block size for many-body localization (MBL) transition. We show that for $\alpha<2$ there exists a localization transition with renormalized disorder that depends logarithmically on the finite size of the system. The transition observed for $\alpha>2$ does not need a rescaling in disorder strength. Most importantly, we find that even though the MBL transition for $\alpha >2$ falls in the same universality class as that of the short-range models, while transition for $\alpha<2$ belongs to a different universality class. {Due to the intrinsic nature of the RSRG flow towards delocalization, MBL phase for $\alpha>2$ might suffer an instability in the thermodynamic limit while the underlying systems support algebraic localization. Moreover, we verify these findings by inserting microscopic details to the RSRG scheme where we additionally find a more appropriate rescaling function for disorder strength; we indeed uncover a power law scaling with a logarithmic correction and a distinctly different stretched exponential scaling for $\alpha<2$ and $\alpha>2$, respectively, by analyzing system with finite size. This finding further suggests that microscopic RSRG scheme is able to give a hint of instability of the MBL phase for $\alpha>2$ even considering systems of finite size., Comment: 13 pages and 9 figures

Higher-order topological~(HOT) states,~hosting topologically protected modes on lower-dimensional boundaries,~such as hinges and corners, have recently extended the realm of the static topological phases.~Here we demonstrate the possibility of realizing a two-dimensional \emph{Floquet} second-order topological insulator, featuring corner-localized zero quasienergy modes and characterized by quantized Floquet qudrupolar moment $Q^{\rm Flq}_{xy}=0.5$, by periodically kicking a quantum spin Hall insulator (QSHI) with a discrete fourfold ($C_4$) and time-reversal (${\mathcal T}$) symmetry breaking Dirac mass perturbation.~Furthermore, we show that $Q^{\rm Flq}_{xy}$ becomes independent of the choice of origin as the system approaches the thermodynamic limit.~We also analyze the dynamics of a corner mode after a sudden quench, when the $C_4$ and ${\mathcal T}$ symmetry breaking perturbation is switched off, and find that the corresponding survival probability displays periodic appearances of complete, partial and no revival for long time, encoding the signature of corner modes in a QSHI.~Our protocol is sufficiently general to explore the territory of dynamical HOT phases in insulators and gapless systems., Comment: 5.5 Pages, 5 Figures: Published version

Much have been learned about universal properties of entanglement entropy (EE) and participation ration (PR) for Anderson localization. We find a new sub-extensive scaling with system size of the above measures for algebraic localization as noticed in one-dimensional long-range hopping models in the presence of uncorrelated disorder. While the scaling exponent of EE seems to vary universally with the long distance localization exponent of single particle states (SPSs), PR does not show such university as it also depends on the short range correlations of SPSs. On the other hand, in presence of correlated disorder, an admixture of two species of SPSs (ergodic delocalized and non-ergodic multifractal or localized) are observed, which leads to extensive (sub-extensive) scaling of EE (PR). Considering typical many-body eigenstates, we obtain above results that are further corroborated with the asymptotic dynamics. Additionally, a finite time secondary slow growth in EE is witnessed only for correlated case while for uncorrelated case there exists only primary growth followed by the saturation. Having the chiral anomaly induced magneto-transport phenomena extensively studied in single Weyl semimetal (WSM) as characterized by topological charge $n=1$, we here address the transport properties in the context of multi-Weyl semimetals (m-WSMs) where $n>1$. Using semiclassical Boltzmann transport formalism with the relaxation time approximation, we investigate several intriguing transport properties such as longitudinal magneto-conductivity (LMC), planar Hall conductivity (PHC), thermo-electric coefficients (TECs) and planar Nernst coefficient (PNC) for m-WSMs in the co-planar setups with external magnetic field, electric field and temperature gradient. Starting from the low-energy model, we show analytically that at zero temperature both LMC and PHC vary cubically with topological charge as $n^3$ while the finite temperature ($T \neq 0$) correction is proportional to $(n+n^2)T^2$. Interestingly, we find that both the longitudinal and transverse TECs vary quadratically with topological charge as $n^2$ and the PNC is found to vary non-monotonically as a function of $n$. Our study hence clearly suggests that the inherent properties of m-WSMs indeed show up distinctly through the chiral anomaly and the chiral magnetic effect induced transport coefficients in two different setups. We study the non-equilibrium evolution of concurrence of a Bell pair constituted of two qubits, through the measurement of Loschmidt echo (LE) under the scope of generalized central spin model. Having detected the Griffiths phase via derivative of LE in equilibrium, we show that in the non-equilibrium situation, the spin chain requires a temporal window to realize the effect of disorder. We show that within this timescale, LE falls off exponentially and this decay is maximally controlled by the initial states and coupling strength. Our detail investigation suggests that there actually exist three types of exponential decay, a Gaussian decay in ultra short time scale followed by two exponential decay in the intermediate time with two different decay exponents. The effect of the disorder starts appearing in the late time power law fall of LE where the power law exponent is strongly dependent on disorder strength and the final state but almost independent of initial states and coupling strength. This feature allows us to indicate the presence of Griffiths phase. To be precise, continuously varying critical exponent and wide distribution of relaxation time imprint their effect in LE in the late time limit where the power law fall is absent for quenching to a Griffiths phase. Here, LE vanishes following the fast exponential fall. Interestingly, for off-critical quenching LE attains a higher saturation value for increasing disorder strength, otherwise vanishes for a clean spin chain, referring to the fact that disorder prohibits the rapid decay of entanglement in long time limit. Moreover, we show that disorder is also able to destroy the light cone like nature of post quench quasi-particles as LE does not sense the singular time scales appearing for clean spin chain with qubits coupled at symmetric positions., Comment: 12 pages and 9 figures

In particular, using graphene irradiated by an intense bi-circular pulse laser as a prototypical and experimental viable example, we theoretically investigate how to selectively generate a coherent oscillation of electronic order such as charge density waves (CDW). The key is to use tailored fields that match the crystalline symmetry broken by the target order. After the pump, a macroscopic number of electrons start oscillating and coherence is built up through a transition. The resulting physics is detectable as a coherent light emission at the synchronization frequency and may be used as a purely electronic way of realizing Floquet states respecting exotic space time crystalline symmetries. In the process, we also explore possible flipping of existing static CDW orders and generation of higher harmonics. We investigate the effect of a time-reversal breaking impurity term on both the equilibrium and non-equilibrium critical properties of entanglement entropy (EE) in a three-spin interacting transverse Ising model which can be mapped to a one-dimensional p-wave superconductor with next-nearest-neighbor hopping. Due to the presence of next-nearest-neighbor hopping, a new topological phase with two zero-energy Majorana modes at each end of an open chain appears in the phase diagram. We show that the derivative of EE with respect to one of the parameters of the Hamiltonian can detect the quantum phase transitions by exhibiting cusp like structure at those points; impurity strength ($\la_d$) can substantially modify the peak/dip height associated with the cusp. Importantly, we find that the logarithmic scaling of the EE with block size remains unaffected by the application of the impurity term, although, the coefficient (i.e., central charge) varies logarithmically with the impurity strength for a lower range of $\la_d$ and eventually saturates with an exponential damping factor ($\sim \exp(-\la_d)$) for the phase boundaries shared with the phase containing two Majorana edge modes. On the other hand, it receives a linear correction in term of $\la_d$ for an another phase boundary. Finally, we focus to study the effect of the impurity in the time evolution of the EE for the critical quenching case where impurity term is applied only to the final Hamiltonian. Interestingly, it has been shown that for all the phase boundaries in contrary to the equilibrium case, the saturation value of the EE increases logarithmically with the strength of impurity in a certain region of $\la_d$ and finally, for higher values of $\la_d$, it increases very slowly which is dictated by an exponential damping factor., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

We investigate the dynamics of a one-dimensional $p$-wave superconductor with next-nearest-neighbor hopping and superconducting interaction derived from a three-spin interacting Ising model in transverse field by mapping to Majorana fermions. The next-nearest-neighbor hopping term leads a new topological phase containing two zero-energy Majorana modes at each end of an open chain, compared to a nearest-neighbor $p$-wave superconducting chain. We study the Majorana survival probability (MSP) of a particular Majorana edge state when the initial Hamiltonian ($H_i$) is changed to the quantum critical as well as off-critical final Hamiltonian ($H_f$) which additionally contains an impurity term ($H_{imp}$) that breaks the time-reversal invariance. For the off-critical quenching inside the new topological phase with $H_f= H_i +H_{imp}$, and small impurity strength ($\lambda_d$), we observe a perfect oscillation of the MSP as a function of time with a single frequency (determined by the impurity strength $\lambda_d$) that can be analyzed from an equivalent two-level problem. On the other hand, the MSP shows a beating like structure with time for quenching to the phase boundary separating the topological phase (with two edge Majoranas at each edge) and the non-topological phase where the additional frequency is given by inverse of the system size. We attribute this behavior of the MSP to the modification of the energy levels of the final Hamiltonian due to the application of the impurity term., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures
