In the present work, the CuWO4poly(methyl methacrylate) nanocomposite thin film (CPTF) was effectively fabricated by an effortless, simple and cheap solution casting method and it was confirmed by various analytical techniques. The crystalline size was calculated by the Debye-Sherrer method and the average particle size of pure CuWO4 and CPTF was found to be 44 nm and 40 nm, respectively. The morphology structure of CPTF nanocomposite was revealed by SEM and TEM analysis and the structure is a cubic and spherical shape with a different magnification of the surface of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix, the average particle size is about 40–50 nm. XPS spectroscopy results confirmed the presence of C 1s, W 4 f, O 1s and Cu 2p components in CPTF nanocomposite. The CPTF was utilised as photocatalytic material for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CF) and methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation within 90 and 70 min, respectively. The higher photocatalytic degradation is mainly due to the synergistic effect between CuWO4 and PMMA, which decrease the charge carrier (electron-hole) recombination rate. Superoxide and hydroxyl radicals played a major in the reaction which was confirmed in radical trapping experiments. This CPTF photocatalyst gives a new beginning for further research studies. Polyethylene tartramide (PT) containing free hydroxyl groups was prepared by the reaction of diethyl tartrate (DT) with the diamine, 1,2-diaminoethane at room temperature without the use of any solvent or catalyst. The reaction of PT with epichlorohydrin produces polyethylene diepoxymethylene tartramide (PDT). The photocrosslinkable acrylated and methacrylated monomers namely, poly[N-aminoethyl-(di-β-hydroxy-α-acryloyl)tartramide] (APDT) and poly[N-aminoethyl-(di-β-hydroxy-α-methacryloyl)tartramide] (MAPDT) were synthesized by the ring-opening reaction of PDT with acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, respectively. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by infrared (IR), 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectra. The photocrosslinking properties of the monomers have been studied by irradiating the monomers under a medium pressure mercury vapor lamp using 1-hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone as a free radical photoinitiator at different time intervals and different initiator concentration. The rate of disappearance of the acrylate and methacrylate functional group during irradiation was observed by measuring the absorption intensity due to C[dbnd]C stretching frequency of the crosslinked polymers using FT-IR spectra. The photocrosslinking studies indicate that the methacrylated monomer exhibit higher double bond conversion than the acrylate monomer. The values of the hardness and density of the photocrosslinked polymers were measured and it was observed that the hardness and density values are higher for the polymers obtained from the methacrylated monomer than the acrylated monomer. The solubility of the photocrosslinked polymers were tested and these polymers were found to be insoluble in most of the organic solvents and the observation indicates, that all the polymers were swollen in the solvent, dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide, and methyl alcohol. The swelling studies of the photocrosslinked polymers were carried out and the results like swelling coefficient, crosslink density, molecular weight between crosslinks, and percent gel content of the crosslinked polymers were discussed. An effort to include biologically potent benzotriazole nucleus into piperidine ring is achieved through hydrazone formation. The characterization of the synthesized compounds was carried out using FT-IR, 1 H & 13 C NMR, 1 H– 1 H COSY, 1 H– 13 C COSY, NOESY spectral techniques and GC-Mass spectrum. The spectral assignments were done without ambiguity using 2D-NMR techniques. The conformational preference of the piperidine ring deduced from the spectral studies is ‘chair’. The diastereotopic nature of the methylene protons/methyl groups present in the molecules is revealed clearly in their spectral pattern observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
