In recent years, it has been pointed out that the maximum accelerating gradient of a superconducting RF cavity can be increased by coating the inner surface of the cavity with a multilayer thin-film structure consisting of alternating insulating and superconducting layers. In this structure, the principal parameter that limits the performance of the cavity is the critical magnetic field or effective Hc1 at which vortices begin penetrating into the superconductor layer. This is predicted to depend on the combination of the film thickness. We made samples that have a NbN/SiO₂ thin-film structure on a pure Nb substrate with several layers of NbN film deposited using DC magnetron sputtering method. Here, we report the measurement results of effective Hc1 of NbN/SiO₂(30 nm)/Nb multilayer samples with thicknesses of NbN layers in the range from 50 nm to 800 nm by using the third-harmonic voltage method. S-I-S (superconductor-insulator-superconductor) multilayered structure has been proposed in order to increase the maximum acceleration gradient of SRF cavities. Nb₃Sn is the material most expected as a superconducting layer of the S-I-S multilayered structure because it offers both a large critical temperature and large predicted Hsh. Most important in fabricating Nb₃Sn thin films is the stoichiometry of the material produced, and the lack of tin leads to performance degradation. We have launched a new in-house DC magnetron sputtering apparatus for Nb₃Sn deposition. Nb and Sn layers were alternately and repeatedly deposited on Si wafer while adjusting the film thickness of each layer, so we successfully obtained Nb-Sn films having appropriate composition ratio. The as-deposited films were annealed under the temperature of 600 degree C for 1 hour to generate the Nb₃Sn phase. The characteristics of Nb-Sn films evaluated by XRD, XRF, FE-SEM, and so on. We also measured critical temperature of the annealed films. The multilayer thin film structure of the superconductor has been proposed by A. Gurevich to enhance the maximum gradient of SRF cavities. The lower critical field Hc1 at which the vortex starts penetrating the superconducting material will be improved by coating Nb with thin film superconductor such as NbN. It is expected that the enhancement of Hc1 depends on the thickness of each layer. In order to determine the optimum thickness of each layer and to compare the measurement results with the theoretical prediction proposed by T. Kubo, we developed the Hc1 measurement system using the third harmonic response of the applied AC magnetic field at KEK. For the Hc1 measurement without the influence of the edge or the shape effects, the AC magnetic field can be applied locally by the solenoid coil of 5mm diameter in our measurement system. ULVAC made the NbN-SiO2 multilayer thin film samples of various NbN thicknesses. To investigate the Hc1, we developed the Hc1 measurement system using the third harmonic response of applied AC magnetic field. The measurement system consists of helium cryostat with two of GM refrigerators, sample Cu stage, solenoid coil Cu mount, solenoid coil, temperature sensors, and liquid helium level meter. AC magnetic field is produced by a coil which is driven by function generator and power amplifier at around 1 kHz. In order to control the temperature of the sample, we installed heaters and thermal anchors which could be moved by the motor. By this temperature control the sample state can be easily transferred from Meissner state to mixed state. So that the measurement is repeated for various applied magnetic field, and the transition curve can be made. KEK has been carrying out SRF cavity developments toward higher Q-values and higher accelerating gradients. In the past nitrogen-doping was tested using the KEK furnaces, but it did not succeed. This time nitrogen infusion and nitrogen doping are tested using the J-PARC's furnace, which has an oil-free pumping system and is mainly pumped by a 10000 L/s cryopump and three 3000 L/s turbo pumps. Nitrogen pressure is controlled by a variable leak valve and an additional turbo pump. To avoid performance degradation during heat treatment, flanges of cavities are covered by Nb caps and foils. Nitrogen infusion at 120 degrees was applied to a single cell cavity and cavity performance was measured by vertical tests after HPR and assembly. Nitrogen doping at 800 degrees is also applied to another single cell cavity. After applying EP and HPR, vertical tests were carried out. Nb samples were also installed into the furnace during heat treatment. Surfaces are analyzed by SIMS and XPS. In order to increase the maximum acceleration gradient of SRF cavities, S-I-S (superconductor-insulator-superconductor) multilayered structure theory has been proposed. We focused on NbN which has a higher superconducting transition temperature than Nb. Firstly, we researched the optimal deposition condition for N2 gas reactive sputtering of NbN by using in-house inter-back type DC magnetron sputtering equipment. The critical condition for a thin film with strong crystalline orientation of NbN was identified. The superconducting transition temperature of the NbN thin film, which were coated under the best condition, was over 14 K. Secondly, we tried making S-I-S multilayered samples that was composed of NbN/SiO2/Nb substrate. The coating condition for the NbN layer was determined based on the research results in a single layer. The SiO2 layer was deposited with a film thickness of 30 nm that was theoretically expected to be effective as barrier layer. We applied O2 gas reactive AC magnetron sputtering for coating. Comprehensive cavity fabrication process from Niobium ingot was investigated. In order to purify ingots, A 600 kW electron beam furnace was introduced in ULVAC. It makes possible the stable quality of Niobium sheets and tubes. In evaluation of chemical components, mechanical properties, and RRR of our materials, all the value satisfies the ASTM Type 5 (superconducting grade) specification. In this study, we performed the trial manufacturing of welding-type and seamless-type cavities were made of our high purity Niobium ingots (RRR > 300). Accelerating gradient over 40 MV/m was shown in both cavities. We also tried to manufacture a 3-cell seamless cavity as scale up study. A seamless tube with a length of 830 mm, an inner diameter of 131 mm and a thickness of 3.5 mm was prepared. We succeed in direct forming from tube to cavity shape by using a hydroforming process. KEK has been investigating the better conditions of the heat treatment in nitrogen, which are called as nitrogen doping and nitrogen infusion. We have tried to understand the high gradient performance of the cavity from the analyses of samples which were prepared in the same conditions for the cavity. The main tools are D-SIMS for the depth profile of the elemental concentration, XPS for composition analysis and SQUID magnetometry for the critical DC magnetic field measurement. The difference in the depth profiles of the nitrogen, carbon and oxygen between the heat treatment conditions was observed in vacuum and furnace temperature of nitrogen infusion by D-SIMS and XPS. Such a difference correlates with the vortex penetration field measured by SQUID. In particular, that of nitrogen doping sample was greatly degraded, while that of nitrogen infusion sample was slightly improved. The tendency is similar to the RF high gradient test results. Although S-I-S (superconductor-insulator-superconductor) multilayered structure is expected to increase the maximum acceleration gradient of SRF cavities, in order for it to function in reality, it is necessary to develop a coating processing that can realize high purity and quality superconducting thin-films. We launched the co-sputtering system to create superconducting alloy thin-films such as Nb3Sn and to research how the characteristics of them change depending on the coating conditions. The deposition rate of two elements was optimized by adjusting each input power, so we successfully obtained an alloy thin-film having appropriate composition ratio. In addition, we developed another experimental equipment for coating on the inner surface of the 3GHz TESLA type small cavities. A cylindrical shape Nb in which some permanent magnets are inserted was adopted as the sputtering target. Glow discharge of the target was confirmed, and the inner-sputtering test was conducted. Collecting real-world information is an important task for humanitarian applications. To alleviate this cumbersome task, we have presented Choco, a low-power, end-to-end reliable collection protocol for wireless sensor networks. Sensor nodes with Choco can construct multi-hop wireless networks without awareness of network topology thanks to simultaneous flooding, which is a recently proposed flooding scheme exploiting constructive interference phenomena. In this paper, we present two field experiments of Choco in a data center, and 400 m straight road, and show the efficiency in these fields.

In this paper, we propose a novel stereo matching algorithm based on disparity propagation using cellular evolutionary neural networks (CEN). Most of previous works have drawbacks and advantages in accuracy, running time and scene types of image; however, our advantage is obtaining not exceedingly-high but satisfactory accuracy for various scenes with low computational cost. Our algorithm calculates initial disparities with a simple local method, and then propagates those disparities using CEN. The direction of propagation is controlled by a reliability map, which is created by checking left-right consistency of the initial disparity maps. We test our algorithm with the Middlebury stereo dataset, and experimental results show that our algorithm is able to produce more accurate disparities than common local and global methods for many types of scenes within just two seconds.

In this paper, we propose a power saving mechanism based on a simple moving average of the traffic rate in 802.3ad link aggregation. Two key components comprise the proposed mechanism: (1) a negotiation protocol for both nodes connected to an 802.3ad aggregated link and (2) an algorithm to estimate an appropriate number of active links to comprise the aggregated link in accordance with the current rate of traffic outbound on the link. We present an evaluation of the characteristics of the algorithm and its performance through simulation with real traffic trace data. Our simulations demonstrate that under certain conditions the proposed algorithm is capable of reducing the average number of active links by as much as 25.4% (6.7 W out of 26.4 W).

In this paper, we propose power saving technique based on simple moving average method for multi-channel Ethernet and evaluate its performance through simulation with real traffic data.
