Drug resistance in infectious diseases developed by bacteria and fungi is an important issue since it is necessary to further develop novel compounds with biological activity that counteract this problem. In addition, new pharmaceutical compounds with lower secondary effects to treat cancer are needed. Coordination compounds appear to be accessible and promising alternatives aiming to overcome these problems. In this review, we summarize the recent literature on coordination compounds based on nitrobenzoic acid (NBA) as a ligand, its derivatives, and other nitro-containing ligands, which are widely employed owing to their versatility. Additionally, an analysis of crystallographic data is presented, unraveling the coordination preferences and the most effective crystallization methods to grow crystals of good quality. This underscores the significance of elucidating crystalline structures and utilizing computational calculations to deepen the comprehension of the electronic properties of coordination complexes. This paper presents an application for a molybdenum disulfide nanomaterial with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MoS2@MWCNT/E) in a modified electrode substrate for the detection of uric acid (UA). The modified electrode generates a substantial three-fold increase in the anodic peak current for UA compared to the unmodified MWCNT electrode (MWCNT/E). The MoS2@MWCNT/E surface was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The achieved detection limit stood at 0.04 µmol/L, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 2.0% (n = 10). A new sensor was developed using a screen-printed carbon electrode modified with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and Prussian blue (PB) coated with chitosan. The modified electrode allowed the oxidation and reduction of rutin at 0.25 and 0.096 V, respectively, with a [DELTA]E of 0.154 V. Furthermore, the peak currents increase nearly 100% compared with the electrode without modification. The process was more reversible compared with the electrode modified with only SWCNTs or PB. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the modified electrode surface. The quantification of rutin was more sensitive with adsorptive stripping voltammetry than with anodic stripping voltammetry. Adsorption potential, adsorption time and pH were optimized based on the oxidation of rutin: [E.sub.ads] = -0.10 V, [t.sub.ads] = 60 s, pH 3.0. The detection limit (3[sigma]/b) was 0.01 [micro]M and the relative standard derivation was 3%. The new sensor was used in the quantification of rutin in black tea, coffee and synthetic drink of tea with satisfactory results. This paper presents a new application for a screen‐printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with chitosan (Cs) and manganese oxide (II). This new electrode (Cs‐MnOX/SPCE) was applied in the detection of tartrazine (TZ) by linear scan voltammetry (LSV). The anodic peak current for TZ increased by nearly 500 % compared with Cs/SPCE and unmodified SPCE. The surface of the electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry. The detection limit was 0.06 μmol/L. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) were between 1.0 and 6.0 % (n=15).
