MEXT-Supported Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities (2014-2018), Forming a Social Well-being Research Consortium in Asia, This paper explains the background and procedure of the International Comparative Survey on Lifestyle and Value, conducted in Korea by the funding of the Center for Social Well-being Studies, Institute for the Development of Social Intelligence, Senshu University. As the survey was conducted through a web survey, this paper has reviewed the history and methods, and strength and weakness of web survey. Korean survey was conducted using web panel, and was supplemented by integrating telephone survey for the elderly. After explaining detailed procedures for the survey and sampling method, authors compare the attributes of the data with other national data, such as Korean Census, Labor Panel survey, and Income Panel survey. The Korean survey was very successful in terms of implementation, and the overall sample characteristics reflect the reality of Korean Society. The data collected will contribute to the understanding of the nature of social well-being and the mechanisms of their operation within a Korean context, as well as supporting comparative study of social well-being in an Asian context.

MEXT-Supported Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities (2014-2018), Forming a Social Well-being Research Consortium in Asia, This paper constructs a social well-being indicator and empirically examines how social well-being is distributed across the population in Korea. We also investigate which factors are likely to contribute to higher social well-being. After reviewing previous research, we figure out that social well-being consists of three dimensions; personal, relational, and societal, and a balance between individual resources and life events or challenges people face can impact the level of social well-being. We emphasize conditional factors of social quality, such as social cohesion, socio-economic security, social inclusion, and empowerment, play critical role in the perception of social well-being. The results confirm that life experiences in the social environment contribute to the level of social well-being. Trust gap, risk experiences, and discrimination experiences, which reflect low level of social cohesion, socio-economic security, and social inclusion respectively, reduce social well-being significantly. On the other hand, experiences of community participation, which show high level of social empowerment, raise well-being level substantially. What is noticeable is that those stressful life experiences are heavily concentrated on those who don't have enough resources to cope with. The vulnerable in terms of social well-being are those who are deprived in multiple ways. They have lack of money, lack of education, no job, and lack of social network. Therefore, policy intervention needs to target those vulnerable individuals preferentially and to enhance their social well-being by maximizing their psychological and social resources as well as economic resources.

Journal of Applied Botany and Food Quality; 87; 24-29, Variation in content of organic acids and soluble sugars, and in physical characteristics was evaluated in apricot (P. armeniaca L. cv. Harcot), plumcot (plum-apricot hybrid, P. salicina ? P. armeniaca L. cv. Harmony), plum (P. salicina Lindl. cv. Formosa), and peach (P. persica L. Batsch cv. Jinmi). The content of organic acids and sugars, as well as parameters of fruit quality (weight, dimensions, firmness, total soluble solids, and total acidity) in Prunus fruits during fruit development were determined. Organic acids, including oxalic acid, quinic acid, malic acid, shikimic acid, citric acid, and quinic acid, sugars, including sucrose, fructose, glucose, and sugar alcohol (sorbitol), were identified and quantified using HPLC. Organic acid mostly increased during the early stages of fruit growth (30 - 60 days after full bloom) and decreased until fruits were fully ripened. In general, plum was the highest in most organic acids compared with the other fruits, while apricot contained the lowest acid content except for citric acid. Sucrose, fructose, and glucose content increased with fruit development, unlike content of sorbitol. Plumcot contained the highest fructose, and peach showed the maximum content of sucrose at full maturation stages. Total soluble solids averaged 17.5, 14.8, 11.9, and 10.6 Brix in apricot, plumcot, plum, and peach, respectively, whereas total acidity was 0.9, 1.4, 0.5, and 0.3% in four Prunus cultivars at ripened stages. Shikimic acid was significantly correlated with oxalic acid in apricot, plumcot, and plum, but not in peach. Fructose and glucose were highly correlated in plumcot, plum, and peach.
