To evaluate the effect of duration of preoperative hip pain symptoms on outcomes in patients undergoing primary hip arthroscopy for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS).A systematic review of the literature was conducted with the following keywords: "hip arthroscopy," "outcomes," "femoroacetabular impingement," "duration," "symptoms," "time," "delay," "earlier," and "timing" was performed in PubMed and Cochrane in May 2022. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used for this review. When available, article information including the author, study type, study period, and follow-up, demographics, preoperative duration of symptoms, surgical outcome tools, and secondary surgeries were recorded.Six studies including 3,298 hips were included in this systematic review. Five studies had minimum 2-year follow-up and one study had minimum 5-year follow-up. Femoroacetabular impingement (including subtypes cam and pincer impingement) was a surgical indication in all six studies, and the most common indication for surgery. All six studies reported patient-reported outcome scores (PROs). All studies conducted statistical analyses comparing the duration of symptoms' effect on outcomes and found superior outcomes in patients with shorter duration of symptoms prior to hip arthroscopy. In three studies, mHHS, HOS-ADL, HOS-SS and VAS-Satisfaction ranged from 79.1-82.6, 86.3-88.4, 75-75.5. and 75.3-82.5, respectively in cohorts with2-year duration of symptoms, compared to 72-77.7, 79.6-84, 65.0-66.7, and 69.7-75.3 in2-year cohort. Similarly, in one study the2-year duration group was reported to have a conversion to total hip arthroplasty rate of 0.6% and an overall secondary surgery rate of 0.9%, while the2-year duration group had a conversion to total hip arthroplasty rate of 6.4% and an overall secondary surgery rate of 10.1%.Patients with hip pain symptoms of less than 2 years before arthroscopic treatment of FAIS have better outcomes than those patients who had a longer duration of symptoms. However, significant improvements can still be expected regardless of time between onset of symptoms and surgery.Level IV, systematic review of Level III and Level IV studies.

Novel biomarker research is vital for the progression of safe and thorough diagnostic medicine. There is now a need to improve the diagnosis of bladder cancer via a noninvasive urine test while balancing the risks of harm from investigational procedures, such as cystoscopy and radiological tests, against the likelihood of malignancy. We evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity of Uro17™ urinary biomarker for the detection of urothelial cancer in hematuria patients in a prospective blinded validation study. Uro17™ is an immunobiomarker which binds to the oncoprotein Keratin 17, which is involved in the replication cycle of malignant cells. This study compared cystoscopic and histological investigations against Uro17™ results in patients being investigated for symptoms of urothelial cancer.After receiving both local and national ethics/protocol approval, 71 patients were consented and recruited into the study. All patients were scheduled to undergo cystoscopic investigation, and following recruitment, a urine sample was collected. Urine samples were anonymized and processed as per standard cytology protocols and stained using Uro17™ immunobiomarker. The pathologists assessing the results were blinded to the patient and background history, and the results were compared to the biopsy histology.The full cohort of enrolled patients consisted of 71 participants included. There were 55 males and 16 females, with an average age of 70. Thirteen were current smokers, 42 ex-smokers, and 16 nonsmokers. The malignancies detected included both muscle-invasive (n = 6) and non-muscle-invasive tumors (n = 38), and tumors of all grades and carcinoma in situ. Uro17™ was shown to have an overall sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 92.6%, with a positive predictive value of 0.957 and negative predictive value of 1. Uro17™ investigation was positive in every case of urothelial malignancy.Our current data indicates Uro17™ is a highly sensitive noninvasive bladder cancer urine detection test that can improve the diagnosis of Bladder cancer. This can further improve diagnostic capabilities in primary care, reduce the number of referrals to Urology department, and reduce the number of unnecessary invasive procedures for new patients with a suspected urinary bladder cancer.

Background Research experience is believed to be an important component of the neurosurgery residency application process. One measure of research productivity is publication volume. The preresidency publication volume of U.S. neurosurgery interns and any potential association between applicant publication volume and the match results of top-ranked residency programs have not been well characterized. Objective In this study, we sought to characterize the preresidency publication volume of U.S. neurosurgery residents in the 2018–2019 intern class using the Scopus database. Methods For each intern, we recorded the total number of publications, total number of first or last author publications, total number of neuroscience-related publications, mean number of citations per publication, and mean impact factor of the journal per publication. Preresidency publication volumes of interns at the top-25 programs (based on a composite ranking score according to 4 different ranking metrics) were compared with those at all other programs. Results We found that 82% of neurosurgery interns included in the analysis (190 interns from 95 programs) had at least 1 publication. The average number of publications per intern among all programs was 6 ± 0.63 (mean ± standard error of the mean). We also found that interns at top-25 neurosurgery residency programs tended to have a higher number of publications (8.3 ± 1.2 vs. 4.8 ± 0.7, P = 0.0137), number of neuroscience-related publications (6.8 ± 1.1 vs. 4.1 ± 0.7, P = 0.0419), and mean number of citations per publication (9.8 ± 1.7 vs. 5.7 ± 0.8, P = 0.0267) compared with interns at all other programs. Conclusions Our results provide a general estimate of the preresidency publication volume of U.S. neurosurgery interns and suggest a potential association between publication volume and matching in the top-25 neurosurgery residency programs.

As urbanization continues to evolve and accelerate, understanding the interactions between urban geography and large-scale mobility data has generated a great interest in the urban studies in recent years. In this paper, we present a method to learn embeddings of urban zones by utilizing the spatiotemporal characteristics of urban mobility. We extract the mobility signature from taxi trajectory data in Seoul, South Korea. Then, we apply Skip-gram model on the mobility signature to obtain the embeddings of the urban zones. Finally, we apply the spherical k-means clustering on the learned embeddings of zones to identify the urban functional regions. Through proposed approach, region maps of Seoul that can readily identify regions of similar socio-economic activities such as mobility patterns are provided.

Cross-sectional analysis of completed and terminated spine-related clinical trials in the ClinicalTrials.gov registry.The aim was to quantify completed and terminated spine-related clinical trials, assess reasons for termination, and determine predictors of termination by comparing characteristics of completed and terminated trials.Clinical trials are key to the advancement of products and procedures related to the spine. Unfortunately, trials may be terminated before completion. ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry and results database maintained by the National Library of Medicine that catalogs trial characteristics and tracks overall recruitment status (eg, ongoing, completed, terminated) for each study as well as reasons for termination. Reasons for trial termination have not been specifically evaluated for spine-related clinical trials.The ClinicalTrials.gov database was queried on July 20, 2021 for all completed and terminated interventional studies registered to date using all available spine-related search terms. Trial characteristics and reason for termination, were abstracted. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed determine predictors of trial termination.A total of 969 clinical trials were identified and characterized (833 completed, 136 terminated). Insufficient rate of participant accrual was the most frequently reported reason for trial termination, accounting for 33.8% of terminated trials.Multivariate analysis demonstrated increased odds of trial termination for industry-sponsorship [odds ratio (OR)=1.59] relative to sponsorship from local groups, device studies (OR=2.18) relative to investigations of drug or biological product(s), and phase II (OR=3.07) relative to phase III studies ( P0.05 for each).Spine-related clinical trials were found to be terminated 14% of the time, with insufficient accrual being the most common reason for termination. With significant resources put into clinical studies and the need to advance scientific objectives, predictors, and reasons for trial termination should be considered and optimized to increase the completion rate of trials that are initiated.

Objectives The microscopic features of urine cytology specimens are subjective and may not reliably distinguish between benign urothelial cells and low-grade urothelial carcinoma (UC). Prior studies demonstrated that keratin 17 (K17) detection in biopsies is highly sensitive for UC. The current study aimed to define K17 diagnostic test performance for initial screening and detect recurrent UC in urine specimens. Methods K17 was detected by immunocytochemistry (ICC) in consecutively collected urine specimens (2018-2019). A qualitative score for the K17 test was determined in 81 samples (discovery cohort) and validated in 98 samples (validation cohort). K17 sensitivity and specificity were analyzed in both cohorts across all grades of UC. Results Based on the discovery cohort, the presence of 5 or more K17 immunoreactive urothelial cells (area under the curve = 0.90; P < .001) was the optimal threshold to define a K17-positive test. The sensitivity of the K17 ICC test for biopsy-confirmed UC was 35 of 36 (97%) and 18 of 21 (86%) in the discovery and validation cohorts, respectively. K17 was positive in 16 of 19 (84%) specimens with biopsy-confirmed low-grade UC and in 34 of 34 (100%) of specimens with high-grade UC. Conclusions K17 ICC is a highly sensitive diagnostic test for initial screening and detection of recurrence across all grades of UC.

A series of model tests was performed to evaluate the survivability of an articulated tower-type buoy structure under harsh environmental conditions. The buoy structure consisted of three long pipes, a buoyancy module, and top equipment. The scale model was made of acrylic pipe and plastic with a scale ratio of 1/22. The experiments were carried out at the ocean engineering basin of KRISO. The performance of the buoy structure was investigated under waves only and under combined environmental conditions from sea state (SS) 5 to 7. A nonlinear time-domain numerical simulation was conducted using the mooring analysis program OrcaFlex. The survivability of the buoy was analyzed based on three factors: the pitch motion, submergence of the top structure, and anchor reaction force. The model test results were directly compared to the results of numerical simulations. The effects of the sea state and combined environment on the performance of the buoy structure were investigated.

Reconstruction of nasal defects secondary to Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) presents particular challenges related to the complex topography, skin quality, tissue laxity, and functional and aesthetic concerns of the region. Factors affecting outcomes resulting from second intent healing (SIH) on the nose have not been well described. The purpose of the study was to identify factors impacting outcomes of SIH for nasal tumors following MMS. Retrospective analysis was performed of all nasal lesions treated with MMS followed by SIH from a single surgical center over a 1.5-year period. Ninety-six cases were included. Chart review was performed, and data were collected including age, gender, nasal site, tumor type, defect size, depth, and number of MMS stages. Pre- and post-operative follow-up photographs were available for all cases. All five authors evaluated the photographs using the modified Manchester scar scale. Analysis was then conducted to identify features associated with good outcomes. Of the 96 tumors, 39 lesions (40.6%) were located on the nasal tip (including supratip), 32 (33.3%) on the ala/alar groove, 17 (17.7%) on the sidewall, and 8 (8.3%) on the dorsum. The average defect size was 0.83 cm

Background: Interventional pain management is essential for patients with cancer who experience medically uncontrollable chest wall pain to help control their symptoms and improve their quality of life. However, there is a lack of data on this topic, so there is an urgent need for further research. Objectives: To identify the effects of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the thoracic nerve roots on pain outcomes in patients with cancer and intractable chest wall pain. Study Design: Retrospective, observational cohort study. Setting: National Cancer Center in Korea. Methods: The medical records of patients with cancer who were referred to the pain clinic at our National Cancer Center for intractable chest wall pain and who underwent thoracic nerve root RFA between Jan. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2015 were analyzed. The primary outcome was the change in Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) scores between pre-procedure and one week, one month, and 6 months post-procedure. The secondary outcomes were the change in morphine equivalent daily dose (MEDD) between pre-procedure and one week, one month, and 6 months post-procedure, and whether the primary cancer type (lung vs. non-lung) or radiotherapy to the chest within one month affected the outcomes of RFA. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare RFA data between pre and post-procedure and P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: One hundred patients were included in the final analysis. The median NRS score in patients who underwent RFA decreased from 7 (range 3–10) pre-procedure to 4 (0–9) at one week and one-month post-procedure (both P < 0.001) and 4 (1–8) at 6 months post-procedure (P < 0.001). The median MEDD value decreased from 200 (range 30–1800) mg pre-procedure to 180 (10–1600) mg at one week post-procedure (P < 0.001), but there was no statistically significant change at one month (P = 0.699) or 6 months (P = 0.151) post-procedure. There was no difference in RFA outcome according to type of primary cancer or radiotherapy to the chest within one month. Limitations: Retrospective design. Conclusion: Radiofrequency thermocoagulation of the thoracic nerve roots achieved effective short-term pain control in patients with cancer and intractable chest wall pain. The fringe tree, Chionanthus retusus (Oleaceae) has been used as a natural remedy that helps a paralytic stroke, dementia, phlegm and malaria. This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant and anti-aging activities of water extracts obtained from the flesh of C. retusus by reflux extraction at room temperature and 80°C, and pressure heating extraction at 110°C, for an increment of their practical use. The highest extraction yield from the flesh of C. retusus was 67.94% extract by pressure heating extraction at 110°C. The content of total polyphenol compounds was the highest by 72.71 mg/g in 80°C extract by reflux extraction. The highest content of total flavonoid compounds was 7.60 mg/g at 110°C extract. The results of soluble protein and reducing sugar contents showed the highest content of 4.93 mg/g and 46.77 mg/g in 110°C extract, respectively. In the analysis of DPPH radical scavenging activity, all extracts showed an excellent effect of 92% in 1.0 mg/mL concentration. The highest effect of ABTS radical scavenging activity was 88.67% at 110°C extraction in 1.0 mg/mL concentration. Nitrite scavenging ability was the highest as 66.16% at 110°C extract at pH 1.2 and 1.0 mg/mL concentration. The results of SOD-like activity and xanthine oxidase inhibition activities showed the highest effect of 14.95% and 59.45% at 110°C extract in 1.0 mg/mL, respectively. Tyrosinase inhibition activity for whitening effect was the highest of 35.31% at 85°C in 1.0 mg/mL. In the analysis of anti-aging effect, collagenase and elastase inhibition activity showed the highest effects of 37.78% at 110°C and 20.39% at 80°C, respectively. All results of antioxidant activities and anti-aging effects increased along with the concentration increases. These results indicated that the extracts extracted from the flesh of C. retusus at 80°C and 110°C have a large amount of useful ingredients, an excellent antioxidant activity, like as DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity, and anti-aging effects to develop functional products than those of 25°C.

This study considers the wave impact loads on the semi-submersible structure. To evaluate wave impact loads on the semi-submersible structure, a series of experiments are conducted in a 2D wave flume. In the experimental test, the semi-submersible half model is used, and 11 uniaxial force sensors are installed in deck side, column side, and deck bottom. Wave probes are, also, attached in the test model to measure the relative wave elevation. To generate horizontal and bottom wave impact on the test model, focusing wave is applied. The test model is fixed without any motion during each test, while the trim angle of the test model is changed to examine the effect of trim angle on wave impact load. Through this, the characteristics of the wave impact force at each position were investigated.

We previously reported that inducing gamma oscillations with a non-invasive light flicker (gamma entrainment using sensory stimulus or GENUS) impacted pathology in the visual cortex of Alzheimer's disease mouse models. Here, we designed auditory tone stimulation that drove gamma frequency neural activity in auditory cortex (AC) and hippocampal CA1. Seven days of auditory GENUS improved spatial and recognition memory and reduced amyloid in AC and hippocampus of 5XFAD mice. Changes in activation responses were evident in microglia, astrocytes, and vasculature. Auditory GENUS also reduced phosphorylated tau in the P301S tauopathy model. Furthermore, combined auditory and visual GENUS, but not either alone, produced microglial-clustering responses, and decreased amyloid in medial prefrontal cortex. Whole brain analysis using SHIELD revealed widespread reduction of amyloid plaques throughout neocortex after multi-sensory GENUS. Thus, GENUS can be achieved through multiple sensory modalities with wide-ranging effects across multiple brain areas to improve cognitive function. Auditory stimulation combined with light-induced gamma oscillations in the hippocampus CA1 and auditory cortex regions of the brain reduces amyloid levels and improves memory in animal models of Alzheimer's disease.

Neuronal and synaptic loss is characteristic in many neurodegenerative diseases, such as frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Recently, we showed that inducing gamma oscillations with visual stimulation (gamma entrainment using sensory stimuli, or GENUS) reduced amyloid plaques and phosphorylated tau in multiple mouse models. Whether GENUS can affect neurodegeneration or cognitive performance remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that GENUS can entrain gamma oscillations in the visual cortex, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex in Tau P301S and CK-p25 mouse models of neurodegeneration. Tau P301S and CK-p25 mice subjected to chronic, daily GENUS from the early stages of neurodegeneration showed a preservation of neuronal and synaptic density across multiple brain areas and modified cognitive performance. Our transcriptomic and phosphoproteomic data suggest that chronic GENUS shifts neurons to a less degenerative state, improving synaptic function, enhancing neuroprotective factors, and reducing DNA damage in neurons while also reducing inflammatory response in microglia.

Microstructural examination of the Nb-Si-B alloys at Nb-rich compositions is performed. The Nb-rich corner of the Nb-Si-B system is favorable in that the constituent phases are Nb (ductile and tough phase with high melting temperature) and T2 phase (very hard intermetallic compound with favorable oxidation resistance) which are good combination for high temperature structural materials. The samples containing compositions near Nb-rich corner of the Nb- Si-B ternary system are prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process using T2 and Nb powders. T2 bulk phase is made in arc furnace by melting the Nb slug and the Si-B powder compact. The T2 bulk phase was subsequently ballmilled to powders. SPS is performed at 1300oC and 1400oC, depending on the composition, under 30 MPa for 600s, to produce disc-shaped specimen with 15 mm in diameter and 3 mm high. Hardness tests (Rockwell A-scale and micro Vickers) are carried out to estimate the mechanical property.

직경 2~3 nm 크기를 갖는 이산화티탄 나노입자가 산성 용액에서 titanium tetraisopropoxide(TTIP)의 가수분해 반응을 조절함에 의해 합성되었다. 생성된 이산화티탄 나노입자를 졸-겔법에 의해 3-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane(GPTMS)과 반응시킴에 의해 유-무기 혼성 코팅 용액이 제조되었다. 그 후 코팅 용액을 기재인 polycarbonate(PC) 시트 위에 스핀코팅시키고, 120 oC에서 열경화 시켜 고굴절률 하드코팅 도막이 제조되었다. 코팅 도막은 가시광선 영역에서 90%의 높은 광학적 투과율을 보였으며 2H의 연필경도를 나타내었다. 또한 코팅 용액 내의 이산화티탄 나노입자의 함량이 4%에서 25%로 증가됨에 따라 코팅 필름의 굴절률은 633 nm 파장에서 1.502로부터 1.584로 향상되었다.

Introduction: Cytology and cystoscopy have limited sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of urothelial carcinoma (UC), due to inflammatory atypia, sampling errors, and other clinicopathologic factors that may obscure test results. Therefore, there remains a clinical need to identify biomarkers to improve the diagnostic accuracy to detect UC. Keratin 17 (K17) is an embryologic cytokeratin that functions as an oncoprotein to promote the degradation of tumor suppressors that drive tumorigenesis. Published work from our group established that K17 is highly expressed in UC and confirmed specificity for UC by immunohistochemical localization of K17 in tissue biopsies of both low-grade and high-grade UCs (Babu et al., Mod Pathol, 2018). Objective: The objective of the current study was to develop an immunocytochemical (ICC) assay to determine K17 is a sensitive and specific biomarker to enhance diagnostic accuracy for UC in urine cytology. Methods: 80 ThinPrep CytoLyt-fixed urine specimens, collected at Stony Brook Medicine in 2018, including 39 with a clinicopathologic diagnosis of UC based on current cytologic diagnosis, and/or a history of biopsy confirmed UC within one year (+/-) of urine cytology specimen collection. K17 ICC was performed by indirect immunoperoxidase methods and K17 test results were scored based on the detection of immunoreactive urothelial cells and not on an assessment of cytologic atypia. The sensitivity and specificity of urine K17 ICC for detection of urothelial neoplasia was calculated by comparison of ICC test results with the cytologic diagnosis and/or the histologic diagnosis of positive cystoscopic biopsy specimens (papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential [PUNLMP, n=1] or greater). Samples that had no history of abnormal urine cytologic or biopsy diagnosis were categorized as negative for urothelial neoplasia. Results: Relative to the final clinicopathologic diagnosis of UC (n=38) or PUNLMP (n=1), K17 ICC had a sensitivity of 100% (95% CI: 91-100%) and specificity of 90% (95% CI: 77-96%). The positive predictive value was 90% (95% Cl: 78-96%) and the negative predictive value was 100% (95% Cl: 90-100%). Comparing ICC test results to cytologic and biopsy diagnoses, K17 ICC was positive in 9/23 (39%) cases with negative urine cytology. Of these 9 cases, 4 cases had biopsy confirmed UC. K17 ICC was positive in 4/11 (36%) of cases with inflammatory/reactive changes. Of these 4 cases, 3 had biopsy-confirmed UC. K17 ICC was positive in 14/30 (46%) of cases with mild atypia. Of these 14 cases, 12 had biopsy-confirmed UC and 1 had PUNLMP. K17 ICC was positive in 16/16 (100%) of cases with moderate atypia (n=8), severe atypia (n=3), or UC (n=5), all with biopsy-confirmed UC. Conclusions: K17 ICC is a novel and highly sensitive and specific diagnostic test for underlying biopsy-confirmed UC among samples with inflammatory/reactive changes, cytologic atypia, or positive urine cytology. There is a clinical need to identify novel biomarkers to improve diagnostic accuracy for the detection of urothelial tumors. The current study aimed to evaluate keratin 17 (K17), an oncoprotein that drives cell cycle progression in cancers of multiple anatomic sites, as a diagnostic biomarker of urothelial neoplasia in bladder biopsies and in urine cytology specimens. We evaluated K17 expression by immunohistochemistry in formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue specimens of non-papillary invasive urothelial carcinoma (UC) (classical histological cases), high grade papillary UC (PUC-LG), low grade papillary UC (PUC-HG), papillary urothelial neoplasia of low malignant potential (PUNLMP), and normal bladder mucosa. A threshold was established to dichotomize K17 status in tissue specimens as positive vs. negative, based on the proportion of cells that showed strong staining. In addition, K17 immunocytochemistry was performed on urine cytology slides, scoring positive test results based on the detection of K17 in any urothelial cells. Mann–Whitney and receiver operating characteristic analyses were used to compare K17 expression between histologic diagnostic categories. The median proportion of K17 positive tumor cells was 70% (range 20–90%) in PUNLMP, 30% (range 5–100%) in PUC-LG, 20% (range 1–100%), in PUC-HG, 35% (range 5–100%) in UC but staining was rarely detected (range 0–10%) in normal urothelial mucosa. Defining cases in which K17 was detected in ≥10% of cells were considered positive, the sensitivity of K17 in biopsies was 89% (95% CI: 80–96%) and the specificity was 88% (95% CI: 70–95%) to distinguish malignant lesions (PUC-LG, PUC-HG, and UC) from normal urothelial mucosa. Furthermore, K17 immunocytochemistry had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 96% for urothelial carcinoma in 112 selected urine specimens. Thus, K17 is a sensitive and specific biomarker of urothelial neoplasia in tissue specimens and should be further explored as a novel biomarker for the cytologic diagnosis of urine specimens.

This study consists of an experimental investigation of the reduction of the second-order roll motion of a semi-submersible platform in head sea conditions by adding hull damping. The second-order heave drift force and roll drift moment are known to be the main triggers that induce the list angle (Hong et al., 2010). Hong et al. (2013) used numerical calculations to show the possibility of reducing the list angle by changing the pontoon shape and adding a damping device on the hull. One of their findings was that the reduction in the list angle due to the increase in pontoon surface damping was significant. A series of model tests were carried out with a 1:50 scaled model of semi-submersible at the KRISO wave basin. The experiments indicated that adding damping on the hull surface effectively suppressed the list angle.

To evaluate the effects of prostaglandin analogs (PGAs) on cell viability and apoptosis in cultured astrocytes obtained from the lamina cribrosa (LC) of the human optic nerve head (ONH).Astrocytes were cultured from LC samples obtained from human donor ONH and treated with three kinds of acid form of PGAs: latanoprost (LAT-A), tafluprost (TAF-A), and bimatoprost (BIM-A) (0.1, 1, 10, 50 and 100 ug/mL). Cell viability was assessed using the WST-1 assay. Cell apoptosis was measured using the deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling (TUNEL) assay. Apoptotic protein expression was evaluated using western blot analysis.ONH astrocytes expressed FP receptor in western blot analysis. In the presence of 0.1 ug/mL of LAT-A, BIM-A, and TAF-A, the cell viability was 85%, 85% and 82%, respectively. WST-1 assay revealed about 50% of cell viability following treatment with 50 ug/mL of all PGAs. After exposing astrocytes to 10 ug/mL of each PGA for 24 hours, apoptotic cells were stained in TUNEL assay. Western blot analysis revealed that the PGAs up-regulated Bax (pro-apoptotic protein) and down-regulated Bcl-xL (anti-apoptotic protein) in the astrocytes.PGAs affected cell viability in cultured astrocytes obtained from human ONH LC. PGA treatment may induce apoptosis in ONH astrocytes.

The autofocus system is automatically to drive the focus. It is very important to computer vision system. In the case of a compact camera, the actuator technology is used for auto-focus in mass production. the position sensor is required, the circuit configuration and easy method is widely used in VCM, compared to the stability of the drive size and the noise is a big stepping motor type, size has a piezo system having a humidity problem and the small leaded vulnerability. In addition, there is a liquid lens system, the advantages of low power in a compact structure but also a structure with proven quality and reliability and features required pressure. In this paper, we implement two control systems that can control the actuator as a liquid range of VCM using a sharpness of the image acquired by the image sensor automatically initiates 5Mpixel class was the implementation verification of focusing.

A porous Mg2(dondc) framework (H4dondc = 1,5-dioxido-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) with open metal sites was prepared and functionalized with primary or secondary diamines (en = ethylenediamine, mmen = N,N′-dimethylethylenediamine, or ppz = piperazine). The CO2 adsorption was substantial under post-combustion flue gas conditions as compared to other reported metal–organic frameworks. Interestingly, the IR spectroscopic measurements demonstrated that the CO2 adsorption mechanism is based on the combination of physisorption and chemisorption. The CO2 adsorption capacity of 1-mmen was greater than that of 1-en and 1-ppz, which can likely be attributed to the basicity of the free amine groups tethered to the open coordination sites. Ultrahigh selectivity and superior dynamic separation of CO2 over N2 were evident in 1-ppz. Such exceptional CO2 uptake and CO2/N2 selectivity of diamine-functionalized materials hold potential promise for post-combustion CO2 capture applications.

Pain caused by pancreatic cancer (PC) is difficult to control. Celiac plexus neurolysis (CPN) can effectively control the pain and reduce the use of opioids. However, the effect of CPN on survival for patients with unresectable PC remains controversial.To determine if CPN is associated with survival benefits for these patients.Retrospective, observational cohort study.National Cancer Center in Korea.The CPN group included patients who were diagnosed with unresectable PC and underwent fluoroscopically guided bilateral CPN (10 mL dehydrated alcohol each side) once between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2013. Patients with PC who did not undergo CPN were in the control group; for the final control group, 1:1 propensity score (PS) matching was conducted with the CPN group. The main outcome was median survival (PC diagnosis to death) after PS matching, assessed using Kaplan-Meier curves.For the primary overall survival analysis, the CPN and control groups included 110 and 258 patients, respectively. The median survival period was not significantly different between the CPN and control groups (278 vs. 203 days, P = 0.246), even after PS matching (278 vs. 180 days, P = 0.127), or based on time to CPN from diagnosis (≤ 6 vs.6 months; 255 vs. 310 days, P = 0.147).Retrospective design, small sample size, and inconsistent timing of CPN after the diagnosis date.CPN did not affect survival for patients with unresectable PC. This study was performed in order to investigate the antioxidant properties of hot water extract from the root and aerial part of the Syneilesis palmata in respect to its potential use as food, cosmetics material, or medicinal resource. The results showed that the S. palmata root hot water extract (RHW) possessed a higher content of total flavonoid compounds (4.58 mg/g) and total polyphenol compounds (59.11 mg/g). The SOD-like activities of the RHW and APHW were 23.74% and 21.61%, respectively, at a concentration 2,000 ug/mL. In the nitrite scavenging ability of a 2,000 μg/mL concentration, the RHW showed 63.06% (pH 1.2) and 47.16% (pH 3.0). The IC50 values of the nitrite scavenging abilities were 99.93 μg/mL (ascorbic acid), 1,150.85 μg/mL (RHW), and 1,610.25 μg/mL (APHW). The IC50 values of DPPH free radical scavenging abilities were 99.87 μg/mL (RHW) and 118.29 μg/mL (APHW). The inhibition values (IC50) of xanthine oxidase were 139.62 μg/mL (RHW) and 111.11 μg/mL (APHW). In all of the experiments, the S. palmata root hot water extracts have higher activities than the aerial hot water extract, except for the xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity. These results suggest that the S. palmata is a potentially useful antioxidant source for the development of functional nutraceuticals, cosmetics and medicine.

In this paper, we proposed on the azimuth correction method for a line-of-sight data-link tracking antenna system. Tracking antenna system is essential to maintain line-of-sight between moving object and data-link equipment. In order to calculate the azimuth and elevation between the moving object and antenna system, we used GPS data. also to match the each coordinate systems, we used geomagnetic sensor or beacon. However, the geomagnetic disturbance-prone terrain in places difficult to correct calibration. The first step, finds the location of the strongest RF signal, we should remember the difference between the reference point and the detected position of the antenna. The second step, we could communicate each other. And the azimuth angle is calculated by GPS values. Despite the geomagnetic interference, we can correct the azimuth angle quickly and easily.

A genetic variation of Lepista nuda and two genus Lepista species (L. irina and L. sordida) were analyzed by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence analysis. In the resulting RAPD analysis, 22 out of 40 random primers amplified polymorphic RAPD fragment patterns, the amplified bands were 355, and DNA fragment sizes were 200-400bp. Intraspecific genetic dissimilarity of the 10 L. nuda strains were calculated to range from 0% to 21.60%, L. sordida from 16.93% to 24.82%, L. irina were 20.62% to 25.54%, and intraspecific genetic dissimilarity of L. sordida and L. irina was 23.49%. The 673 base pairs were sequenced during the analysis of the ITS I and II region; six L. nuda strains intraspecific genetic dissimilarities ranged from 1.58% to 11.47%, L. nuda and L. sordida from 3.83% to 12.88%, L. nuda and L. irina from 7.11% to 15.61%, and intraspecific genetic variation between L. sordida and L. irina was 4.79%. The findings showed that RAPD and ITS sequencing could be used for developing molecular genetic markers and screening of unidentified genus Lepista species.

In the present study, the proximate composition, sugar, minerals, total phenolic and flavonoid compounds, and amino acids in Calystegia japonica (C. japonica) were measured to determine if it can be used as a nutritional and functional material for the development of valuable foods. The mean crude protein, fat, and ash contents of the leaves were 5.75, 2.46, and 7.77%, respectively. The soluble-protein contents of the leaves and roots were 146.78 and 33.67 mg%, respectively. The reducing-sugar and free-sugar contents of the leaves were 682.70 and 166.00 mg%, respectively, and those of the roots were 2,934.89 and 37.70 mg%. The mineral content of the leaves was 3,122.13 mg%, and that of the roots was 1,540.85 mg%. The three elements Ca, K, and Mg were very rich in all their parts, with minerals accounting for 96-99% of their total mineral contents. The total phenolic compound of the leaves was 3,028.89 mg%, and the total flavonoid compound was 382.67 mg%. The phenolic and flavonoid compounds in the leaves were more than 7.6 times those in the roots. The free-amino acid levels in the leaves and roots were 2,467.15 and 1,334.81 mg%, respectively. The results of the comparison of the leaves and roots of C. japonica showed that the leaves had a rich proximate composition consisting of minerals, total phenolic and flavonoid compounds, and amino acid. This suggests that C. japonica leaves are potentially useful sources of functional and favorite foods and nutraceuticals.

In this study, we assessed the free radical scavenging and xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities of extracts isolated from the dried roots and stems (including leaves) of Angelica dahurica. The irritation response from these extracts was also assessed to determine potential cosmetic use. Both sources of A. dahurica extracts exhibited radical scavenging properties to different extents. The free radical scavenging potency (EC 50 ) of the stems (including leaves) of A. dahurica was 243.33 ㎍/mL, which is significantly lower (p＜0.01) than that observed of the roots (1,161.79 ㎍/mL). The inhibition values (EC 50 ) of xanthine oxidase were as follows: 435.19 ㎍/mL (roots) and 434.66 ㎍/mL (stems). We noted no significant differences between the two plant parts with regard to ability to inhibit xanthine oxidase activity. After the application of A. dahurica extracts to rabbits for skin and eye irritation tests, no negative effects were observed; therefore, the extracts are considered to be non-irritating to the skin and eye.

Three bark extracts of Albizia julibrissin were prepared using water (AW), 70% (v/v) ethanol (AE), and hot water (AHW). Organic solvent fractions were analyzed for total flavonoids and polyphenols, antioxidant activities, and inhibitory activities against xanthine oxidase. Total flavonoid and polyphenol contents of the AHW extract were 8.57 mg/g and 108.67 mg/g, respectively. The SOD-like activities of all extracts, assayed at 1.0 mg/mL, were 10.46-16.73%. The nitrite-scavenging ability of the AHW extract, assayed at pH 1.2, was 60.82%, and the value was /mL. The electron-donating ability of the AHW extract, at 0.3 mg/mL, was 92.30%; the values of the AW and AHW extracts were /mL and /mL, respectively; thus higher than that of ascorbic acid (/mL). Xanthine oxidase inhibition by the AHW extract, at 1.0 mg/mL, was 94.05%. These results indicate that the AHW of A. julibrissin has potential as a natural antioxidant, for addition to foods and nutraceuticals.

The ethanol extract of aerial parts showed the highest content of flavonoid compounds (31.72 mg/g), and the ethanol extract of roots has the highest content of total polyphenol compounds (68.11 mg/g). The water extract of S. palmata roots showed the highest xanthine oxidase inhibition of 99.29% and the ethanol extract of aerial parts showed 98.48% at 1.0 mg/mL. The ethanol extract of roots showed the highest value of nitrite scavenging ability of 70.89% at pH 1.2, SOD-like activity of 13.06% and electron donating ability of 98.58% at 1.0 mg/mL concentration. The effect of tyrosinase inhibition was found at only the ethanol extracts of roots (9.33%). We found that root extracts contain abundance polyphenol compounds and their antioxidant activities were greater than those of the extracts of aerial part.Key words: Syneilesis palmata, antioxidant activity, flavonoid, polyphenol, xanthine oxidase inhibition

This study was conducted to analyze components of the fruit and stem of Vitex rotundifolia as part of a study on the nutritional and functional materials, and the development of a functional food. General components of V. rotundifolia fruit are moisture 12.92%, carbohydrate 78.67%, crude protein 3.22%, crude fat 1.73% and 3.46% crude ash. V. rotundifolia stem was moisture 11.30%, carbohydrate 80.87%, crude protein 4.78%, crude fat 0.64 % and 2.41% crude ash. The content of V. rotundifolia reducing sugar was 646.07 mg% (fruit) and 1,547.97 mg% (stem). The total amount of free sugar was fruit 5.66 mg% and stem 90.79 mg%. The content of soluble protein was 3,268.12 mg% in fruit and 4,927.55 mg% in stem. The polyphenol compound content was 608.06 mg% and 808.06 mg%, respectively. Total amount of hydrolyzed amino acid of V. rotundifolia fruit and stem were 3,095.75 mg% and 2,135.84 mg%, while that of free amino acid of fruit and stem were 79.99 mg%, 81.20 mg%, among which cysteine (2,010.82 mg%) was the highest in the V. rotundifolia fruit. In the results of mineral analysis, the content of K was the highest in fruit (2,184.00 mg%) and stem (1,469.20 mg%).
