A detailed analysis of the optical properties of filled tetrahedral semiconductors Li3AlN2 and Li3GaN2 has been performed, using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method within the density functional theory. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function ε( ω), the optical absorption coefficient I( ω), the reflectivity R( ω), and the electron energy loss function are calculated within the random phase approximation. The interband transitions responsible for the structures in the spectra are specified. Looking at optical matrix element, we note that the major peaks are dominated by transition from metal s, N 2 p states to N 2 p, Ga 3 d states. The theoretical calculated optical properties and electron energy loss spectrum yield a static dielectric constant of 5.34 and a plasmon energy of 19.47 eV for Li3GaN2. In the Li3AlN2 compound, the static dielectric constant decreases to 4.75 and yields a plasmon energy of 18.5 eV. The effect of spin–orbit coupling on the optical properties is also investigated and found to be quite small, especially in the low-energy region. In order to check the reliability of our calculations, analogous results obtained for Be3N2 in the same structure [space group Ia3(206)] are included in this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and acute pulmonary embolism (PE) are life-threatening conditions with similar clinical presentations. As current diagnostic tools, such as computed tomography pulmonary angiography, for distinguishing between these two conditions are time-consuming and may not be available in all settings, we tried in this study to devise a diagnostic tool based on electrocardiography to distinguish between ACS and acute PE based on T wave features. Methods Medical records of patients with diagnoses of ACS and acute PE, who were referred to three hospitals affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran, from March 2019 to March 2021, were evaluated. One expert cardiologist read patients' electrocardiograms (ECGs). All ECGs were recorded at the standard 25 mm/s and 10 mm/mV. The sum of T wave inversion or TWI (mV) in consecutive leads, including anterior leads (V1, V2, V3, and V4), inferior leads (II, III, aVF), and lateral leads (I, aVL, V5, and V6) were calculated to estimate the cut-off points used to differentiate ACS versus acute PE. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of T wave changes. The Youden index was used to calculate the optimum cut-offs for sensitivity and specificity. Results Of 151 patients with a mean age of 55.44±12.88 years, 74 were in the acute PE and 77 were in the ACS groups. The results showed that the TWI sum in anterior leads >1.2 mV (P<0.001), in lateral leads >0.9 mV (P<0.001), in anterior-to-inferior leads ratio >12 (P<0.001), and V 4 /V 1 leads ratio >4 (P<0.001) rules out acute PE. Anterior-to-lateral TWI ratio (AUC=0.807, sensitivity=70.3%, specificity=10%) was significantly distinctive among ACS and acute PE patients. Conclusion TWI sum in anterior leads >1.2 mV, in lateral leads >0.9 mV, in anterior-to-inferior leads ratio >12, and in V 4 /V 1 leads ratio >4 rules out acute PE. The anterior-to-lateral TWI ratio obtained from patients' ECG was significantly distinctive among the patients and can be used as a screening tool., Competing Interests: Human subjects: Consent was obtained or waived by all participants in this study. Background: Genetic diversity in human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles across populations is a significant risk factor for drug-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), e.g., carbamazepine (CBZ)- and lamotrigine (LTG)-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). The present study aimed to investigate the frequency of different HLA alleles in Iranian patients with CBZ- and LTG-induced SJS/TEN., Methods: A case-control study was conducted from 2011 to 2018 at various hospitals affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (Shiraz, Iran). A total of 31 patients receiving anticonvulsant drugs (CZB or LTG) were recruited and divided into two groups. The drug-induced group (n=14) included hospitalized patients due to CBZ- or LTG-induced SJS/TEN. The drug-tolerant group (n=17) included individuals receiving CBZ or LTG for at least three months with no adverse effects. In addition, 46 healthy individuals (control group) were recruited. The frequency of HLA-A, -B, and -DRB1 alleles in patients with CZB- or LTG-induced SJS/TEN was investigated. HLA typing was performed using the allele-specific polymerase chain reaction method. The Chi square test and Fisher's exact test were used to determine a potential association between SJS/TEN and HLA alleles. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: CBZ- or LTG-induced SJS/TEN was not significantly associated with HLA alleles. However, HLA-DRB1*01 showed a significantly higher frequency in patients with CBZ-induced SJS/TEN than the CBZ-tolerant patients (30% vs. 9%, P=0.07)., Conclusion: Overall, no significant association was found between CBZ- or LTG-induced SJS/TEN and HLA alleles. Hereby, we aimed to investigate the expression of prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) and Vascular Endothelial Factor-C (VEGF-C) besides the methylation of PTGS2 in AML patients. VEGF-C and PTGS2 expression analysis were evaluated in newly diagnosed AML patients and healthy controls by quantitative Reverse Transcriptase PCR method. Also, PTGS2 methylation status was evaluated by Methylation-Sensitive High-Resolution Melting Curve Analysis (MS-HRM). While 34% of patients were female, the mean age of the patients was 43.41 ± 17.60 years suffering mostly from M4 (48.21%) type of AML. Although methylation level between patients and controls was not significantly different, none of the normal controls showed methylation in the PTGS2 promoter. PTGS2 and VEGF-C levels were elevated in AML cases and correlated with WBC, Platelet, and Hemoglobin levels. The survival of patients with overexpressed VEGF-C and PTGS2 was poorer than others. It can be concluded that PTGS2 and especially VEGF-C expression but not PTGS2 methylation can be considered as diagnostic biomarkers for AML., (© 2022. Background: The current study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the 8-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-8). For this purpose, we examined a large sample of the older adult in two different groups with and without diabetes using the YazdHealth Study (YaHS) data. Methods: Using a two-stage cluster random sampling method, 1901 older adults were recruited, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) STEPwise approach to surveillance(STEPS) guidelines. To test the scale's reliability, the internal consistency and test-retest methods were applied. The convergent validity of the entire questionnaire was evaluated by the average variance extracted (AVE) and composite reliability (CR) for each subscale. An independent samples t-test was used to assess the demographic differences between the study groups. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the subscales of SF-8 were measured to range between 0.85 and 0.79 (physical & mental health). The test-retest reliability coefficient of the physical component summary (PCS) and (0.97) and mental component summary (MCS) (0.98)indicated the appropriate reliability of the SF-8. The CFA-concerned results indicated that the the2-factor model presented a good fit to the data for the explored diabetes and non-diabetes groups, as well as the total research participants [goodness of fit index (GFI)=0.99, comparative fit index (CFI)=0.992, normed fit index (NFI)=0.99, incremental fit index (IFI)=0.992, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA)=0.056]. Values >0.5 and >0.7 for AVE and CR indicated the evidence of the convergent validity of the SF-8. Conclusion: The present study was the first attempt to confirm the traditional 2-factor structure of SF-8 among a large sample of Iranian older individuals. The obtained results suggested that the Persian version of the SF-8 is a reliable and valid tool for measuring health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among Iranian older adults (including the older adult with & without diabetes)., (© 2021 The Author(s).)

(1) Background: The older adult population of society is exposed to multiple stressors daily, such as the loss of loved ones, dysfunctional mobility, financial dependence, and suffering from numerous chronic illnesses. The present study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Anxiety about Aging Scale among older adults in Iran. (2) Methods: A sample of 703 community-dwelling older adults was recruited and screened using a standardized tool. The mean age of participants was 69.4 ± 8.1 years. The majority of participants were male (59.2%), married (66.6%), and illiterate (79.7%). A 'forward-backward' translation method was used in developing the Iranian version of the AAS for assessing the psychometric properties among older adults. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the Rasch model were used for construct validity. (3) Results: Applying CFA indicated that the model's four original factors are the best solution, representing 55% of the total variance. The result of the CFA showed that this four-factor model had a good fit for the data. The findings were also confirmed by Rasch analysis. (4) Conclusions: The Persian version of the AAS is valid and reliable for measuring aging anxiety among Iranian older adults.

Background: Older adults may be more prone to death anxiety than their younger counterparts. This study explores factors affecting death anxiety based on gender differences., Methods: In this correlational study, 450 older adults referred to the health centres in the city of Bukan, Iran were recruited by using a randomised sampling method. Next, data were collected about the demographic questionnaire, anxiety about ageing, death anxiety, mental well-being, perceived social support, and quality of life questionnaire. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used to determine the correlation between variables, and the predictors of death anxiety were evaluated using quintile regression. Relationship between death anxiety and other variables was evaluated by the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The study was approved by the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences Ethics Committee (Ethics Code: IR.TBZMED.REC.1397.304)., Results: The results showed that death anxiety in men had a significant relationship with the level of literacy (P = 0.047), body self-imaging (P = 0.031), and perceived social activity (P = 0.033). Among women, death anxiety had a significant relationship with physical activity (P = 0.007) and perceived social activity (P = 0.002). Additionally, quintile regression analysis was calculated: among men, anxiety about ageing was related to death anxiety (β = 0.182, P = 0.05), while in women, only perceived social support was associated to death anxiety (β = -0.376, P = 0.05). Finally, according to SEM, a significantly different level of predictability of mental well-being was found for death anxiety among older men and women., Conclusion: Understanding the gender differences about death anxiety by the healthcare system might be useful in controlling and reducing a variety of concerns among elders who experience high levels of anxiety of death., (© 2021 Japanese Psychogeriatric Society.)

Objective: The main purpose of this study was the psychometric assessment of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale among Iranian older population., Methods: Using a standard "forward-backward" translation procedure, the original English version of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale was translated into Persian. Internal consistency of the scale was checked by the Cronbach's α coefficient. Convergent validity of the instrument was appraised by the Social Skills Scale and General Health Questionnaire. Factor structure of the Iranian version of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale and possible interplay between its subscales were checked through recruiting a convenient sample of 300 Iranian older people and performing the confirmatory factor analysis., Findings: The estimated Cronbach's α and intraclass correlation coefficients for the Iranian version of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale were in the vicinity of acceptable range, that is, 0.87 and 0.93, respectively. The output of confirmatory factor analysis revealed that a four-factor model best fitted the study data (χ 2 = 323.49; df = 129; p < 0.001; comparative fit index = 0.913; Tucker-Lewis index = 0.901; root mean square error approximation = 0.074; standardized root mean square residual = 0.078). Rasch estimates of item difficulty ranged from -1.28 (less difficult) to 1.33 (more difficult). No significant cross-gender differences were observed regarding the Iranian version of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale's items indicating its invariant psychometric properties for use in the Iranian men and women subgroups., Ethical Considertaion: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee at the Tabriz university of medical science. Informed consent, information confidentiality, and voluntary participation were guaranteed., Conclusion: The study findings were indicative of applicability of the Iranian version of Jacelon's Attributed Dignity Scale as a reliable tool in measurement of the perceived social dignity among Iranian and probably other Persian-speaking older populations.

Background: Mindfulness-based interventions have shown to be efficient in managing chronic pain. Cognitive factors play a prominent role in chronic pain complications and negative cognitive contents about pain are often the first issues targeted in cognitive-based therapies, which are known as first-line treatment of chronic pain over the past decades. Little, however, is known about the manner of thinking about pain or pain-related cognitive processing., Objectives: Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on pain-related cognitive processing and control of chronic pain in patients with primary headache., Methods: A clinical trial was conducted in 2017 - 2018 on 85 Persian language patients with one type of primary headache selected through purposive sampling in Emam Hossein Hospital in Tehran province. To measure the variables of the study, we used the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and Pain-related Cognitive Processing Questionnaire (PCPQ). All data were analyzed by independent t -test and chi-square and longitudinal data were analyzed using linear mixed model analysis., Results: Statistically significant time × group interactions were found in pain intensity (P < 0.001), pain interference (P < 0.001), as well as in three cognitive processing subscales including pain focus, pain distancing, and pain openness (P < 0.001). However, the results of pain diversion were not meaningful., Conclusions: MBCT is a potentially efficacious approach for individuals with headache pain. Background: Primary headaches are one of the most troubled chronic diseases. Headaches interfere within the various dimensions of the patient's life. Coping strategies that aim to be attention focused (e.g., mindfulness) may moderate pain-related emotional and physical interference., Objectives: This investigation examined the relationship between mindfulness and pain intensity with physical and emotional interference and the subsequent aim was to analyze the role of mindfulness and headache severity combination in the prediction of pain-related interference., Methods: This correlational study was conducted during years 2017 to 2018 at Imam Hossein Hospital of Tehran province. Eighty-five patients (56 females and 29 males), who had one type of primary headache were selected through purposive sampling after the diagnosis by a neurologist. The data were collected through the brief pain inventory (BPI) and the mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS). All data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Bivariate correlation matrix and hierarchical stepwise linear regression statistics were used., Results: The correlational analysis of the results indicated significant association between mindfulness (MAAS) and pain severity (BPI) (P < 0.01) as well as the findings of the study point to the significant relationship between mindfulness and both physical and emotional pain-related interference (P < 0.01). The results of stepwise linear regression indicated that pain severity explains only 1% of the total score in emotional pain-related interference (P = 0.003 and ΔF (1 and 83) = 9.22, ΔR 2 = 0.11). Adding mindfulness to the model led to a 43% increase of the explained variance (R 2 Change = 0.34). In physical interference, although pain severity was able to predict pain interference (P = 0.01 and ΔF (1 and 83) = 7.09, ΔR 2 = 0.07), a combination model justifies 10% of the interference variance that was not statistically meaningful (P = 0.08, ΔR 2 = 0.103)., Conclusions: This result is a further support that Mindful Awareness contributed to emotional pain-related interference prediction. Background: Primary headaches are the most common cause of absence from work and school and one of the most common reasons for referring to the neurologists., Objectives: The present study was designed to investigate the relationship of cognitive processing style and mindfulness with pain intensity and the ultimate aim was to provide the role of pain-related cognitive processes and mindfulness in the prediction of headache intensity., Methods: The study was conducted descriptively by using the correlation method. The statistical population of this study was composed of 85 patients (56 females and 29 males) with one type of primary headache, which were selected through purposive sampling after the diagnosis of a headache by a neurologist at Imam Hossein Hospital in Tehran province. To measure the variables of the study, the numeric pain rating scale (NRS) and the pain-related cognitive processes questionnaire (PCPQ) were used. All data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentages). Bivariate correlation matrix and hierarchical stepwise linear regression statistics were used., Results: The results showed that there was a significant and negative association between pain intensity (NRS) and mindfulness (P < 0.01) and all pain-related cognitive processes, except pain focus (P < 0.01). The results of stepwise linear regression indicated that mindfulness only explains 39% of total score changes in pain intensity (P < 0.05 and ΔF (1 and 83) = 53.63, ΔR = 0.385). Adding cognitive processing styles to the model led to an 18% increase of the explained variance (R 2 change = 0.179). In total, the present research model justifies 54% of the severity of headache variance (P < 0.01, ΔR = 0.54)., Conclusions: The results suggest that pain-related cognitive processes and mindfulness are effective on pain intensity prediction. In other words, this result can explain the role of mindfulness and adaptive cognitive processing in primary headache pain management.

Introduction: The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) is a self-administered questionnaire to screen and detect individuals with a diagnosable psychiatric disorder. This study was designed to validate the Persian translated version of the short 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) for use with the Iranian elder population., Method: A forward-backward translation method was performed to ensure the quality of the English to Persian translation. A sample of 300 Iranian elder (60 years and over) people was selected from locations known to be frequented by older adults residing in three cities in Iran. Factor of the GHQ-12 was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were measured by estimating the Cronbach's alpha and Spearman correlation coefficients, respectively., Results: The study participants included 157 (52.3%) men and 143(47.7%) women with an average age of 66.5 years (SD = 5.5). Cronbach's alpha for Social dysfunction, psychological distress and overall score were 0.80, 0.78 and 0.82, respectively. The test-retest correlation coefficients among two sub-scales of the GHQ-12 as well as the overall scores ranged from 0.84 to 0.93. CFA revealed a good fit for a modified 12-item two-factor structure., Conclusion: The Persian version of the 12-item General Health Questionnaire was found to be valid and reliable for measuring general health of Persian speaking elderly populations.

Background: Worldwide, hepatitis A is a common infection during childhood especially in developing countries. It can cause severe complications in adults and patients with underlying diseases., Objectives: This study was performed to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis A in 1 - 15 year-old children of Kashan., Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 666 one to fifteen year-old children from health-care centers in Kashan city during 2012. Total antibodies against hepatitis A were measured in sera by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)., Results: Totally, 3.9% of children were seropositive. Mean number of family members was 3.92 ± 0.89. There was no difference in seroprevalence of hepatitis A relative to sex, family size, mean age and age groups., Conclusions: In this city, a great proportion of children are susceptible to hepatitis A and it's complications at an older age. This decrease in seropositivity may be caused by elevated hygien level. According to our results hepatitis A vaccination is recommended at early childhood such as that of other regions where low prevalence of hepatitis A infection is found.
