Cancer, a multifaceted and diverse ailment, presents formidable obstacles to traditional treatment modalities. Nanotechnology presents novel prospects for surmounting these challenges through its capacity to facilitate meticulous and regulated administration of therapeutic agents to malignant cells while concurrently modulating the immune system to combat neoplasms. Bacteria and their derivatives have emerged as highly versatile and multifunctional platforms for cancer nanotherapy within the realm of nanomaterials. This comprehensive review delves into the multifaceted and groundbreaking implementations of bacterial nanotechnology within cancer therapy. This review encompasses four primary facets: the utilization of bacteria as living conveyors of medicinal substances, the employment of bacterial components as agents that stimulate the immune system, the deployment of bacterial vectors as tools for delivering genetic material, and the development of bacteria-derived nano-drugs as intelligent nano-medications. Furthermore, we elucidate the merits and modalities of operation pertaining to these bacterial nano-systems, along with their capacity to synergize with other cutting-edge nanotechnologies, such as CRISPR-Cas systems. Additionally, we offer insightful viewpoints regarding the forthcoming trajectories and prospects within this expanding domain. Neuroinflammation is characterized by the elevation of cytokines and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which in turn activates microglia. These immunoregulatory molecules typically form gradients in vivo, which significantly influence microglial behaviors such as increasing calcium signaling, migration, phagocytosis, and cytokine secretion. Quantifying microglial calcium signaling in the context of inflammation holds the potential for developing precise therapeutic strategies for neurological diseases. However, the current calcium imaging systems are technically challenging to operate, necessitate large volumes of expensive reagents and cells, and model immunoregulatory molecules as uniform concentrations, failing to accurately replicate the in vivo microenvironment. In this study, we introduce a novel calcium monitoring micro-total analysis system (CAM-μTAS) designed to quantify calcium dynamics in microglia (BV2 cells) within defined cytokine gradients. Leveraging programmable pneumatically actuated lifting gate microvalve arrays and a Quake valve, CAM-μTAS delivers cytokine gradients to microglia, mimicking neuroinflammation. Our device automates sample handling and cell culture, enabling rapid media changes in just 1.5 s, thus streamlining the experimental workflow. By analyzing BV2 calcium transient latency to peak, we demonstrate location-dependent microglial activation patterns based on cytokine and ATP gradients, offering insights contrasting those of non-gradient-based perfusion systems. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been identified as promising biomarkers for the noninvasive diagnosis of various diseases. However, challenges in separating EVs from soluble proteins have resulted in variable EV recovery rates and low purities. Here, we report a high-yield ( > 90%) and rapid ( < 10 min) EV isolation method called FLocculation via Orbital Acoustic Trapping (FLOAT). The FLOAT approach utilizes an acoustofluidic droplet centrifuge to rotate and controllably heat liquid droplets. By adding a thermoresponsive polymer flocculant, nanoparticles as small as 20 nm can be rapidly and selectively concentrated at the center of the droplet. We demonstrate the ability of FLOAT to separate urinary EVs from the highly abundant Tamm-Horsfall protein, addressing a significant obstacle in the development of EV-based liquid biopsies. The development of 3D spiral microfluidics has opened new avenues for leveraging inertial focusing to analyze small fluid volumes, thereby advancing research across chemical, physical, and biological disciplines. While traditional straight microchannels rely solely on inertial lift forces, the novel spiral geometry generates Dean drag forces, eliminating the necessity for external fields in fluid manipulation. Nevertheless, fabricating 3D spiral microfluidics remains a labor-intensive and costly endeavor, hindering its widespread adoption. Moreover, conventional lithographic methods primarily yield 2D planar devices, thereby limiting the selection of materials and geometrical configurations. To address these challenges, this work introduces a streamlined fabrication method for 3D spiral microfluidic devices, employing rotational force within a miniaturized thermal drawing process, termed as mini-rTDP. This innovation allows for rapid prototyping of twisted fiber-based microfluidics featuring versatility in material selection and heightened geometric intricacy. To validate the performance of these devices, we combined computational modeling with microtomographic particle image velocimetry ( μ TPIV) to comprehensively characterize the 3D flow dynamics. Our results corroborate the presence of a steady secondary flow, underscoring the effectiveness of our approach. The addition of surface acoustic wave (SAW) technologies to microfluidics has greatly advanced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes, including high-precision manipulation, versatility, integrability, biocompatibility, contactless nature, and rapid actuation. However, the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and vacuum-based processing. To simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions, we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet printing. We successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of varying materials, including silver nanowires, graphene, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts, the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler vibrometry. Finally, to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications, we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration experiments. Flexible fiber-shaped strain sensors show tremendous potential in wearable health monitoring and human‒machine interactions due to their compatibility with everyday clothing. However, the conductive and sensitive materials generated by traditional manufacturing methods to fabricate fiber-shaped strain sensors, including sequential coating and solution extrusion, exhibit limited stretchability, resulting in a limited stretch range and potential interface delamination. To address this issue, we fabricate a fiber-shaped flexible capacitive strain sensor (FSFCSS) by direct ink writing technology. Through this technology, we print parallel helical Ag electrodes on the surface of TPU tube fibers and encapsulate them with a high dielectric material BTO@Ecoflex, endowing FSFCSS with excellent dual-mode sensing performance. The FSFCSS can sense dual-model strain, namely, axial tensile strain and radial expansion strain. For axial tensile strain sensing, FSFCSS exhibits a wide detection range of 178%, a significant sensitivity of 0.924, a low detection limit of 0.6%, a low hysteresis coefficient of 1.44%, and outstanding mechanical stability. For radial expansion strain sensing, FSFCSS demonstrates a sensitivity of 0.00086 mmHg -1 and exhibits excellent responsiveness to static and dynamic expansion strain. Furthermore, FSFCSS was combined with a portable data acquisition circuit board for the acquisition of physiological signals and human‒machine interaction in a wearable wireless sensing system. To measure blood pressure and heart rate, FSFCSS was combined with a printed RF coil in series to fabricate a wireless hemodynamic sensor. The aim of this study was to present a model for in-service teacher training in nanoscience and technology, based on the findings of the nanoscience and technology in-service teacher training programs in the United States of America, Australia, Taiwan, and material - human resources in Iran. It was a descriptive-analytic research. The results showed that in-service training model adopted in the tested samples has been influenced not only from the educated knowledge, the education process, changing attitudes and mentality of teachers, but also from the human-resources, the extent of the teacher community, the period of training program and educational policies. It was also found that although there has been a mutual relationship between the learning approaches and learning models, however, blended learning approach is the one which has a good fluidity and flexibility both for teachers (as opposed to two very important variables of time and location of courses) and for training course planners of in-service teacher training (as opposed to the variables of distribution of material and human resources). Based on the results, a two-stage model including introductory and advanced training for in-service teacher training of nanoscience and technology has been proposed. Within these stages, considering the role of ICT, knowledge-based models have been ICT-TPCK and ICTeTD models. Also, in both stages, considering the knowledge-based model, blended learning approach as the best approach has been adopted.
