With the help of dental implants, an oral rehabilitation can be performed not only very complex, but also very complete of various types of edentulous spaces. After insertion of the dental implants, they can be subsequently prosthetically restored through a wide range of implant-supported prosthetic restorations. In this material, we tried to highlight some particular aspects from the point of view of the laboratory stages of dental technique, which intervene in the technological flow of making implant-supported prosthetic restorations from ceramic masses on Zirconia structure.

Professionals from different fields are exposed to myo-arto-kinetic disorders, among them those in the medical field with dental profile, respectively dentists, dental assistants and dental technicians. Given that specialists in the field of dentistry are exposed to musculoskeletal risk factors with cervical location, the purpose of this study is to provide data to contribute to an effective kinetic intervention strategy for professionals working in the field of dentistry.

Post and core devices are elements that contribute to the complete restoration of the coronary abutment, over which the final prosthetic restoration will be created. Their role is to retain the coronary portion of the restoration and to protect the remaining coronary structures. The retention function is dictated by the major indication of the method, massive coronary destruction that does not provide conditions for coronary aggregation of the restoration. Thus, this material is approaching two unique methods of making post and core devices totally metallic and/or hybrid (metal + totally ceramic component), using both classical technology, modern technologies, but also combinations of them.

Sedentary behavior, both professional, occupational, leisure and recreational, is one of the major risk factors for cardio-metabolic health and premature mortality. But, this type of sedentary behavior can be found in many of the existing professional activities in 2021, among them being the professional activities with a medical profile in the field of dentistry: specific activities in the dentist’s office (and here we discuss about dentists and dental nurses) and activities specific in the dental laboratory (in this case, we are talking about dental technicians).

Introduction. Peri-implantitis is a non-specific inflammation, induced or maintained in the host tissues. Peri-implantitis usually presents a succession of specific symptoms, such as: bleeding on palpation, mobility of the dental implant, pain, increased depth of the pockets located around dental implants. Purpose. Thus, in this material we wanted to carry out a review of the main notions, both theoretical and practical, which characterize the diseases of surrounding tissues of dental implant called peri-implantitis. Material and method. For this study, we used 31 practitioners from Bucharest who frequently perform implant-prosthetic rehabilitation treatments, based on a questionnaire consisting of 6 questions. Results and discussions. The doctors included in the study showed that they have a thorough training in the field of implant-prosthetic restorations and of course in the diagnosis and treatment of peri-implantitis. Conclusions. In-depth knowledge of the notions related to peri-implantitis leads to an early diagnosis, favoring the rapid application of a treatment that prevents the occurrence of subsequent complications.

Introduction. Atherosclerosis represents the process of stiffening of the arterial wall and includes arterial changes secondary to atherosclerosis, as well as physiological changes, reducing vascular elasticity in the elderly. However, the importance of knowing the pathology of atherosclerosis is mandatory among dentists, given the high frequency of patients with atherosclerotic lesions. Purpose. Through this study we tried to familiarize dentists on the therapeutic behavior towards patients with atherosclerosis but also the risks arising from it. Material and method. 87 practitioners from Romania helped to carry out this study between September and November 2018. Results and discussions. A clear picture emerged regarding the changes and manifestations in patients with atherosclerosis by dental practitioners as well as the attitude to be adopted in the case of treatments for such patients. Conclusions. Knowing the pathology of patients at cardiovascular risk as well as the therapy to be applied for them, is a must for dentists given the growing number of patients and the pathology with different stages of evolution.

The restoration of a proximal wall depends on several factors, the conformation system playing one of the most important parts of the working protocol. The vertical, transversal and sagittal adaptation of the matrix band implies the use of one or two wedges and of a sectional matrix device (usually with a ring shape) with tines. The size, configuration and the material the tines are made of determine most of the quality of the adaption and stabilization of the matrix band. Even if these standardized tines have various designs and variable flexibility, a truly efficient tine should have a customized configuration which can be obtained after taking the impression of the initial proximal wall. The clinical situations that allow the customization of the standard tines imply proximal caries that have not interrupted the proximal wall or that have interrupted it less than one third of the transversal distance.

Several methods and materials are used in modern restorative dentistry for anterior dental lesions treatment. The desired aesthetic outcome can be obtained only with the correct treatment method correlated to case particularities. Sometimes, subjective and unrealistic approaches lead immediately or in time to undesirable dental restorations. The aim of the present paper is to evaluate the statistic distribution of aesthetic anterior dysfunctions detected on 425 patients from both genders that had restorative treatment during a period of 10 years. For each patient, there has been conducted an initial clinical examination and a photographic documentation was made. Also, each patient was asked to submit a questionnaire regarding his dental history. The results of the study represented the foundation for the discussions regarding the causes that led to aesthetic dysfunctions. The conclusions indicated that all errors that conducted to an initial failure of treatment are only connected with the medical decisions made by the dentist.

Introduction. Most patients over 40 years old who present for specific treatments in the dental offices have at least one general condition. Specialized research has shown that atherosclerosis is more common in patients with periodontal disease, which suggests that periodontal and cardiovascular disease may have similar causes. Purpose. Given the close connection between the two conditions, we have tried to draw the attention of patients to the importance of the prophylactic maneuvers performed by him or by specialized personnel and we also want to emphasize the importance of the dental hygienist in this process. Material and method. In order to carry out this study, a questionnaire with predetermined answers was used, applied to 57 patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy and who presented for specialized treatments in dental offices. Results and discussions. The answers really reflect how the patients understood the connection between the two conditions and how they perform the oral and dental hygiene. Conclusions. Given that many of the respondents do not perform the hygiene procedures correctly or incompletely, there is a need for a medical staff to discuss with patients to educate them on the importance and the way of hygiene and to perform the oral and dental hygiene procedures, in short the dental hygienist.

Introduction. Any new class of materials almost always brings with it a new processing technology, regardless of the field in which it is operated. If this technology is not fully respected, all the benefits and performance of the material can be compromised. Purpose. In this material we tried not only a familiarization of the dental technicians, but rather their awareness regarding the polymerization processes, which intervene in various technologies for creating prosthetic restorations of any kind. Material and method. For this study, 53 dental technicians, who have completed various forms of schooling, answered 10 questions related to the different forms of polymerization used in the dental technology. Results and discussions. The answers obtained give us an image regarding the knowledge of the practitioners in this field, but also the way in which the theoretical knowledge is verified in practice by the daily experience of the respondents. Conclusion. There is a variation in the accumulated knowledge, a variation that can be based both on the studies followed by each participant in the study and on how they use the materials discussed in this article in daily practice.

Objective. The purpose of this study is to draw attention of dental medicine specialist’s team on risks they are exposed to, by modifying treatment plans in order to fit medical tourism programs. Material and method. In this study a questionnaire was applied to a number of 173 dentists with different specializations, regarding the adaption of treatment options for patients from medical tourism programs and risks posed by changes they had applied. Results. The analysis of results shows that the treatment approach for medical tourists is mostly based on a multidisciplinary team. In terms of quality of the treatment it is distinguished the use of specialists focused on specific fields of dentistry, but we must not neglect the fact that the therapeutical act is adapted to a reduced treatment time. Conclusions. For most of professionals of dental tourism, the financial aspect comes first and not the ethical aspect of medical care.

Due to its considerable systemic impact, several local and general methods to control surgical ( intra/perioperative) bleeding have been developed, with particular characteristics adapted to each type of surgery. In orthopaedic procedures, elective or urgent, bleeding is to be seriously considered , since usually both bones and soft tissues are injured or cut, so adapted haemostatic means have to be used. This issue is of particular importance especially when very small vessels are involved, and especially on large surfaces, since ligation or cauterization are useless in these situations. An effective tool in these circumstances is the group of fibrin sealants, which can stop diffuse bleeding on surfaces when produced by very small vessels. The authors present their clinical experience with fibrin sealants, underlining the indications and the limits of the method.

Treating chronic bone infection is challenging, requiring complete excision of the affected areas and antimicrobial therapy. Acquiring active concentrations of antibiotics is difficult, as well as filling up bone defects resulting from sequestrectomy, and very few methods of treatment address both issues simultaneously. The authors describe the clinical results after using Collatamp G, a collagen-based, antibiotic filled sponge with two actions: local delivery of high antibiotic doses without systemic side effects and enhancement of healing due to collagen, thus covering the bone defect without any further osteoplastic surgery. This paper thus identifies Collatamp G as a biomaterial able to solve the above mentioned problems in treating bone infections.Keywords: bone infections, collagen matrix, gentamicine, antibiotic delivery

Due to increasing number of arthroplasties and osteosynthesis, foreign body reaction to implants is a major problem for orthopedic surgeons, since it is considered to be responsible for severe complications impairing the outcome of the treatment and requiring multiple surgery. Different mechanisms have been described as being involved, and research is focused on finding biomaterials with increased biocompatibility in order to minimize these complications. The clinical aspect of this reaction is usually dominated by chronic pain, with mild functional deficits, and the diagnosis results from excluding other causes of chronic pain, such as infection, osteoarthritis, peripheral neuropathies or angiopaties. The authors present a case with unusual clinical aspect, that of acute cellulitis, when early proper treatment, represented by implant removal, allowed healing without the onset of infection or other complications; histological evaluation confirmed the reaction to implant, thus concluding that surgical treatment when intolerance to implant is suspected is the only method to prevent future negative events.
