Different studies suggest a strong association between childhood abuse and alcohol use disorders (AUDs). The modulation of the startle response has been used to assess emotional processing in AUDs. The main objective of the study was to investigate the startle reflex responses to different stimuli in young adults with varying types of childhood abuse in comparison with a control group according to their current alcohol consumption and the presence of a parent with alcohol dependence or not. A clinical sample of 606 adolescents, divided into five groups: no abuse, physical neglect, emotional neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse, were assessed on their pattern of alcohol consumption and their family history of alcoholism. The proportion of participants with at least one alcohol-dependent parent was higher in all types of abuse. The proportion of heavy drinkers and alcohol-dependent participants was higher in the groups with physical neglect and sexual abuse. Heavy drinkers and alcohol dependents showed a lower startle reflex response to emotional pictures, especially alcohol-related ones. Adolescents exposed to physical and sexual abuse during childhood showed a mitigated startle response to appetitive and alcohol-related pictures. The results of this exploratory study reveal that childhood maltreatment modulates emotional processing to alcohol-related stimuli during adolescence. The evaluation of these patients’ startle response could be considered a prognostic biomarker for establishing personalized preventive strategies during the adolescent stage to avoid, to a large extent, future problems derived from alcohol consumption.

Artículo derivado de la Tesis Doctoral de María Dolores Chávez Vera titulada "Estructuras psicológicas tempranas, impulsividad, adicciones a sustancias y comportamentales en adolescentes y jóvenes de Ecuador", defendida en el año 2018 con la calificación de Sobresaliente Cum Laude y dirigida por Itziar Iruarrizaga. Se realizó un estudio epidemiológico en el que se recogieron datos de una muy amplia cantidad de variables., El objetivo de la presente investigación es estudiar las relaciones entre la adicción al sexo, las dificultades en su regulación emocional (DRE), los esquemas inadaptados tempranos (EIT) y la dependencia emocional (DE). Se lleva a cabo un estudio de diseño no experimental, correlacional de corte transversal, en una muestra de 1.519 adolescentes escolarizados, 54% hombres (n = 820) y 46% mujeres (n = 699), con edades comprendidas entre 14 y 18 años (M = 15.77, DT = 1.22). Los instrumentos de evaluación empleados han sido: MULTICAGE CAD 4 (Pedrero Pérez et al., 2007), Escala de dificultades en la regulación emocional -DRES (Gratz y Romer, 2004; adaptación española realizada por Gómez-Simón, Penelo y de la Osa, 2014), Cuestionario de esquemas, forma reducida, -SQ-SF (Young y Brown, 1994; adaptación española realizada por Cid y Torrubia, 2002) y la Escala de dependencia emocional en el noviazgo de jóvenes y adolescentes –DEN (Urbiola, Estévez e Iraurgi, 2014). Los resultados ponen de manifiesto las relaciones significativas entre DRE, EIT y DE. Se han encontrado diferencias entre hombres y mujeres. Los resultados de este estudio aportan evidencias sobre las relaciones existentes entre las dificultades en la regulación emocional, los esquemas inadaptados tempranos, la dependencia emocional y la inexistente, posible, muy probable o segura adicción al sexo. The results of this study provide evidence of the relationships between difficulties in emotional regulation, early maladaptive schemas, emotional dependence and non-existent, possible, highly probable or safe sex addiction. En la actualidad, el avance tecnológico ha aumentado a una velocidad vertiginosa, de manera que han sido diversos los campos beneficiados, entre ellos la ingeniería y la arquitectura, por consiguiente, el desarrollo de técnicas y herramientas que facilitan y aceleran el análisis, diagnóstico, planificación y propuesta sobre el territorio urbano o rural sobre el cual se pretende realizar cualquier tipo de intervención técnica. Los vehículos aéreos no tripulado (UAV), comúnmente conocidos como drones, se presentan como una alternativa interesante para llevar a cabo diversas actividades de campo como, por ejemplo, el levantamiento topográfico a través de la técnica fotogramétrica. El objetivo de la presente investigación procura describir las principales actividades necesarias para desarrollar un Modelo Digital de Terreno (MDT) del río Tahuando, localizado en la ciudad de Ibarra, provincia de Imbabura, como parte del proyecto externo de Vinculación con la Comunidad, planificado por la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad UTE, denominado como “Proceso de planificación del Parque Lineal del río Tahuando”. Para este modelo digital se utilizó un dron de última generación, posteriormente fue necesario un procesamiento de datos para obtener una ortofoto georreferenciada, un modelo digital y curvas de nivel del terreno. El trabajo cumple con los parámetros de calidad de fotogrametría, se concluye que las nuevas técnicas y software permiten obtener curvas de nivel a cualquier intervalo y cota. Una vez finalizado el ejercicio de investigación se identificó que la metodología propuesta es perfectamente aplicable a procesos de planificación territorial y diseño urbano., Currently, technological advancement has increased at a dizzying pace, benefiting various fields, including engineering and architecture. Consequently, the development of techniques and tools that facilitate and expedite analysis, diagnosis, planning, and proposals regarding urban or rural territories for any type of technical intervention has emerged. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, present an interesting alternative for carrying out various field activities, such as topographic surveys using photogrammetric techniques. The objective of this research is to describe the main activities necessary to develop a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) of the Tahuando River, located in the city of Ibarra, Imbabura province, as part of an external community engagement project planned by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at UTE University. This project is known as "PROCESS OF PLANNING THE TAHUANDO RIVER LINEAR PARK." For this digital model, a state-of-the-art drone, in conjunction with a total station, was used. Subsequently, data processing was required to obtain a georeferenced orthophoto, a digital model, and contour lines of the terrain. The work meets the quality parameters of photogrammetry, and it can be concluded that the new techniques and software allow obtaining contour lines at any interval and elevation. Once the research exercise was completed, it was identified that the proposed methodology is perfectly applicable to territorial planning processes and urban design.
