Aim: Teachers are in a good position to provide first aid to students with mental health problems. The aim of the study is to determine the attitudes of teachers towards individuals with mental health problems and the factors affecting them. Background & aim: Periodontal diseases cause adverse obstetric outcomes in pregnancy. However, pregnant women generally avoid going to the dentist. This study was conducted to assess the reliability and validity of Periodontal Diseases Assessment Index (PEDIAP) in Pregnancy for Midwives in Turkish society.Methods: This is a validation study consisted of 111 pregnant women referred to antenatal clinic of a training hospital in western Turkey in 2017. Construct validity of the index was calculated by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA), reliability by Cronbach's alpha coefficient, inter-applicant agreement with Kendal W coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and factor structure with principal components analysis and Varimax rotation using SPSS for Windows 20.0 software.Results: Results showed that the index explained 33.94% of the total variance, and the factor loading values were between 0.47 and 0.68. Based on the CFA, fit indices were found to be χ2/sd = 1.6384, RMSEA = 0.0762, and CFI = 0.9795. The regression coefficients and t values were significant (t > 1.96). The index was found to have a positive correlation with (CPITN) scores (p < .001). The Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated to be 0.774. It was found that the Kendal W coefficient ranged from 0.550-1 for each item, the ICC coefficient was 0.869, and correlation was significant (p < 0.001). The cut-off value of the index was specified as 3.5Conclusion: The results of this study show that the PEDIAP is a valid and reliable index for use in research and midwifery care.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı psikososyal ve bedensel etkileriyle özel bir süreç olan ergenlik dönemindeki iyilik hali, mutlu olma, kendini ifade etme ile sosyal medya bağımlılığının ilişkisini araştırmaktır. Gereç ve yöntem: Tanımlayıcı, kesitsel araştırmada, kartopu tekniğiyle ulaşılan 11-18 yaş arası 384 ergen, gönüllülük temelinde demografik bilgi formu, Engagement, Perseverance, Optimism, Connectedness, Happiness (EPOCH) Ölçeği, Duyguları İfade Etme Ölçeği (DİEÖ), Oxford Mutluluk Ölçeği-Kısa Formu (OMÖ-KF) ve Sosyal Medya Bağımlılığı Ölçeği-Kısa Formunu (SMBÖ-KF) yanıtlamıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların ortalama yaşları 14,6±2,2 yıl, %47,9’u erkek (n=184) ve %61,5’i (n=236) özel okul öğrencisiydi. EPOCH, DİEÖ, OMÖ-KF, SMBÖ-KF ölçeklerinin Cronbach alfa değerleri sırasıyla 0,818, 0,648, 0,770 ve 0,810 bulundu. Kendisini başarısız görenlerin (%24,7; n=95) EPOCH, OMÖ-KF, DİEÖ puanları (76,2±16,9; 21,7±5,9; 67,7±12,9) başarılı görenlerden (87,9±14,2; 25,5±5,2; 71,1±11,2) düşüktü (p=0,001; p=0,001; p=0,008). DİEÖ puanı kızlarda (72,1±11,2) erkeklerden (68,2±11,9) yüksek (p=0,002), özel okulda okuyanların OMÖ-KF puanı (25,5±5,4) devlet okulunda okuyanlardan (22,9±5,6) farklıydı (p=0,001). SMBÖ-KF puanı devlet okulunda okuyanlarda (3,2±2,9) özel okulda okuyanlardan (2,5±2,3) (p=0,033), kendini başarısız görenlerde (3,8±2,8) başarılı görenlerden (2,4±2,5) (p=0,001) ve spor yapmayanlarda (3,0±2,7) spor yapanlardan (2,4±2,5) fazlaydı (p=0,035). EPOCH puanı spor yapanlarda (87,2±15,8) spor yapmayanlardan (83,9±15,6) yüksekti (p=0,038). Katılımcıların EPOCH ile SMBÖ-KF puanı arasında negatif yönde zayıf (r=-0,199, p=0,001), OMÖ ile SMBÖ-KF puanı arasında ise negatif yönde orta düzeyde korelasyon saptandı (r=-0,260, p=0,001). Sonuç: Özel okulda okuyan ergenlerin devlet okulunda okuyanlara göre daha mutlu ve daha az sosyal medya bağımlısı olması, kendini başarılı görenlerin kendini daha iyi ifade etmesi, daha mutlu olması, kendini başarısız görenlerde, devlet okullarında okuyanlarda ve spor yapmayanlarda sosyal medya bağımlılığının daha yüksek olması dikkat çekicidir.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı tıp fakültesinde okuyan öğrencilerin son zamanlarda giderek artan hekime yönelik şiddet (HYŞ) olaylarını nasıl algıladıklarını ve hissettiklerini değerlendirmektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışma Meram Tıp Fakültesi’nde HYŞ ile ilgili bir toplantıya katılan öğrenci ve araştırma görevlileri ile yapılmıştır. Gönüllü olarak çalışmaya katılanlara araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan kısa sosyodemografik bilgi formu, Şiddete Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği (ŞYTÖ) ve Beck Umutsuzluk Ölçeği (BUÖ) uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Toplantıda bulunup anketi tam olarak dolduran 109 katılımcının yaş ortalaması 22,8±2,9 yıl (18-31) olup %33’ü 3. Sınıf ve %29,4’ü 6. sınıf öğrencisiydi. Hastanede çalıştıkları birimlerde veya hasta yakını iken HYŞ’e şahit olma sıklığı %74,3olarak bulundu. Çok az sayıda katılımcı şiddete uğradığını ifade etti. Çalışmaya katılan araştırma görevlilerinin yarısından fazlası, 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin yaklaşık yarısı HYŞ olayına şahit olurken, ilk 3 sınıf öğrencilerinde bu oran daha düşüktü (p=0,001). HYŞ’e şahit olan öğrencilerin %43 kadarı şiddet uygulayana karşı öfke hissettiğini ve yine aynı oranda olaydan dolayı korktuğunu ve %40 kadarı ise olay karşısında endişe duyduğunu belirtmişti. Kadın cinsiyette olanlar daha çok korku ve şiddeti kınama hissi, erkek cinsiyette olanlar ise endişe duymaktaydı. Katılımcıların %44’ü şiddetin sebebini halkın eğitimsiz olması, yaklaşık yarısı ise doktor ve hastaların karşısındakine yönelik empati eksikliği olarak belirtmişti. ŞYTÖ’den alınan puan ortalaması 18,63±6,0 puan (10-35) ve BUÖ’den alınan puan ortalaması 8,10±2,9 puan (3-17) bulundu. Şiddete şahit olanlarda ŞYTÖ puanı ve BUÖ puanı anlamlı olarak yüksekti (p=0,001). Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sonuçları şiddete şahit olan tıp fakültesi öğrencileri ve araştırma görevlilerinin şiddete yönelimlerinin arttığını ve onları gelecekten umutsuz hale getirdiğini göstermektedir. Sağlıkta şiddeti önlemeye yönelik yasal tedbirlerin, öğrencilere etkili iletişim yöntemleri eğitiminin ve çalıştıkları ortamlarda kendilerini güvende hissetmelerinin toplum sağlığı ve tıp mesleğinin geleceği açısından önemi bir kez daha ortaya konmuştur kanaatindeyiz.

Oculomotor nerve palsy secondary to a compressive lesion is typically presented with clinical findings like anisocoria and ptosis. Seldom does its atypical presentation mimic the features of other neurological diseases. Hence, considering the underlying cause is vital, as it may rarely be the first sign of a ruptured or non-ruptured aneurysm, even if the absence of pupil involvement does not suggest such compressive causes. Herein, we reported the case of a patient who presented with fluctuating ptosis and diplopia secondary to spontaneous dissecting aneurysm of the internal carotid artery.

Introduction:In this study, we aimed to evaluate the awareness of pregnant women about routine applied screening tests and supportive treatments in a university hospital and the factors affecting this.Methods:This observational, descriptive study was carried out between 15th April and 30th November 2018. Four hundred and ninety-three volunteer pregnant women who applied to the Necmettin Erbakan University Meram Faculty of Medicine outpatient clinic for the first time or were being followed up formed the study cohort. In order to determine sociodemographic characteristics, awareness of screening tests, and supportive therapies, and the factors affecting this, a questionnaire consisting of 36 multiple-choice, open-ended questions was applied through face-to-face interviews.Results:The median age of the participants was 27. More than half (57.4%) were graduated from primary school or did not receive education, and 89.0% were unemployed. The majority of the participants stated that they knew screening tests (92.1%) and supportive treatments (93.9%). Forty-eight point one percent and 44.0% of screening tests and supportive treatments were learned from obstetricians, respectively. The reason stated by 57.6% of the participants who did not want to have screening tests was, “I find it unnecessary because I do not want to end my pregnancy”. Amaç: Bu çalışma Gebelikte Sağlıklı Yaşam Davranışları Ölçeği’nin geliştirilmesi, geçerlik ve güvenirliğinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma 12 Mart-12 Eylül 2018 tarihleri arasında, Karabük Üniversitesi Eğitim Araştırma Hastanesi’nde uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, anılan hastanenin gebe izlem polikliniğine başvuran ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 718 gebe oluşturmuştur.Bulgular: Geliştirilmeye çalışılan “çok bileşenli ayrık yapıya” sahip ölçeğin; gebelik sorumluluğu, beslenme, hijyen, fiziksel aktivite, seyahat ve gebeliği kabullenme olmak üzere 6 (altı) alt ölçekten oluştuğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca Cronbach alfa katsayıları; ölçek toplamı için 0.83, gebelik sorumluluğu alt boyutu için 0.71, hijyen alt boyutu için 0.64, beslenme alt boyutu için 0.72, fiziksel aktivite için 0.69, seyahat alt boyutu için 0.80 ve gebeliği kabullenme alt boyutu için 0.63 olup, test-tekrar test sonucunda Sınıf İçi Korelasyon katsayıları (SKK) 0.70-0.91 arasındadır. Sonuç: Bu sonuçlar Gebelerde Sağlıklı Yaşam Davranışları Ölçeği’nin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu ve çalışmalarda kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı kadınların kendi kendine meme muayenesi konusunda farkındalıkları ve etkileyen faktörleri değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Analitik ve tanımlayıcı katılmaya katılmayı kabul eden, yapılan bu çalışma, Karabük Üniversitesi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi’nde 15 Ekim-15 Şubat 2016 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın örneklemini, çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü, anlama ve konuşma problemi bulunmayan, meme kanseri teşhisi ya da tedavisi almamış, herhangi bir meme cerrahisi geçirmemiş 483 kadın oluşturmuştur.Bulgular: Araştırmada katılımcıların %63.8’inin kendi kendine meme muayenesini bilmesine rağmen, sadece %8.5’i düzenli ve %50.9’u bazen meme muayenesi yaptığı belirlendi. Kendi kendine muayene yapma durumu ile değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelendiğinde, yaş, eğitim düzeyi, çalışma durumu, medeni durum, aile/aarkadaşlarda meme kanseri öyküsü açısından anlamlı bir fark gözlendi. Çalışmada yaşı genç, eğitim seviyesi yüksek, çocuk sayısı daha düşük ve çalışan kadınların kendi kendine meme muayenesini daha fazla bildiği ve uyguladığı, kendi kendine meme muayenesi yapmayan kadınların çoğunluğunun meme kanserine yakalanabileceği endişesine sahip olduğu ve memesindeki kitleyi bulamayacağını düşündüğü belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Bu bulgular bize, konu hakkında toplum tabanlı yaygın eğitimler yapılmasını ve bu eğitimlerde öncelikli hedef kitlenin ileri yaşta, eğitim seviyesi düşük, çocuk sayısı fazla, herhangi bir işte çalışmayan kadınlar olması gerektiğini düşündürmektedir.

Air transportation stands out as a rapidly developing area and is essentially a projection of globalization. In this study, the World and Turkey in terms of the development of the air transport of passengers and amount of cargo have been examined. Accordingly, air transportation has been significantly affected by the post-1990 globalization events. Turkey, especially after the rise after the 2000s progressed up to 4th place among European countries. The technical and economic transport performance indicators were taken into account. In the study, the number of passengers and the amount of cargo were determined as an indicator of development. Basic data are World Bank air traffic statistics, TUIK and the State Airports Administration statistics. In addition, Development Plans, Ministry of Transport and DHMİ Plans were examined. At the end of study, it has been determined that there are parallels between the developments in globalization and the developments in airway transportation.

Amaç: Günümüzde yaşlılık dönemi sadece kronolojik yaş olarak kabul edilmekle kalmayıp, aynı zamanda yaşlılık çağında sağlıklı yaşlanmanın ve yaşam kalitesinin önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Çalışmada, bir kamu hastanesine başvuran 65 yaş ve üzeri kişilerin sağlıkla ilgili yaşam kalitesi durumu ve yaşam kalitesini etkileyebilecek faktörlerin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma, Konya’da bir kamu hastanesine başvuran ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 65 yaş ve üstü bireylerle yapıldı. Veri toplanmasında, sosyodemografik özellikleri ve hekim tanılı kronik hastalıklarının varlığını sorgulayan bir anket ile Yaşam Kalitesi Kısa Form-36 ölçeği kullanıldı. Veriler, uygun istatistiksel testlerle analiz edildi.Bulgular: Katılımcıların % 78,3’ü 65-74 yaş grubunda olup; % 54,0’ının kronik hastalığı, %7,2’sinin engeli vardı. Yaşlılıkla ilgili mutsuz eden bir olay varlığını belirten % 27,0 katılımcı olurken; katılımcıların % 42,2’sinin uyku problemi vardı. Çalışma grubunun sosyal fonksiyonellik alt boyut puan ortalaması 48,52 ± 20,48, mental-ruh sağlığı 47,15 ± 15,33, genel sağlık alanındaki ortalama puanı 46,56 ± 18,06 idi. Ağrı skoru, yaşlılık ile ilgili üzüntü yaşayanlarda p=0,04 ve uyku problemleri olanlarda p = 0,001 diğerlerinden yüksekti. Sonuç: Yaşam kalitesi alt boyutlarına ait puan ortalamaları düşüktür. Yaşlılıkla ilgili, yaşlıları mutsuz edici davranışlar vardır. Yaşlılarda kronik hastalıklar, uyku sorunları ve psikososyal sorunlar birlikte düşünüldüğünde, yaşlı bireylerde izleme ve koruyucu hizmetlere yönelik çalışmaların önemine bir kez daha dikkat çekilmesi gerektiği düşüncesindeyiz

INTRODUCTION[|]This study was conducted to investigate traditional beliefs and practices of women regarding care of the mother and the infant during pregnancy, in childbirth, and in the postpartum period.[¤]METHODS[|]This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted at a public hospital in Istanbul. The data collected consisted of socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics, and responses to questions about some traditional customs regarding pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period.[¤]RESULTS[|]In our research, some non-harmful cultural practices were found, such as the belief that to have a clever and beautiful baby the mother should eat fruit; that to have a healthy and peaceful pregnancy, the mother should not look upon ugly things; the mother should indulge her food cravings; and to have an easy birth, the mother should walk and focus on prayers. On the other hand, we also found beliefs that could be harmful, such as wiping the mouth of a baby with a date before breastfeeding, and practices believed to be protective that could cause harm, such as putting a knife under the baby's bed, fastening a safety pin to the baby's clothes, and for the mother and child to remain at home for 40 days.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]While non-harmful and beneficial practices related to maternal and infant health should be accepted and supported as a part of our cultural richness, practices that could be harmful should be prevented in pregnancy classes or with training upon hospital discharge.[¤]

Background: The relationship between students and instructors is of crucial importance for the development of a positive learning climate. Learning climate is a multifaceted concept, and its measurement is a complicated process. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine medical students’ perceptions about the clinical learning climate and to investigate differences in their perceptions in terms of various variables. Methods: Medical students studying at six medical schools in Turkey were recruited for the study. All students who completed clinical rotations, which lasted for 3 or more weeks, were included in the study (n=3,097). Data were collected using the Clinical Learning Climate Scale (CLCS). The CLCS (36 items) includes three subscales: clinical environment, emotion, and motivation. Each item is scored using a 5-point Likert scale (1: strongly disagree to 5: strongly agree). Results: The response rate for the trainees was 69.67% (n=1,519), and for the interns it was 51.47% (n=917). The mean total CLCS score was 117.20±17.19. The rotation during which the clinical learning climate was perceived most favorably was the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation rotation (mean score: 137.77). The most negatively perceived rotation was the General Internal Medicine rotation (mean score: 104.31). There were significant differences between mean total scores in terms of trainee/intern characteristics, internal medicine/surgical medicine rotations, and perception of success. Conclusion: The results of this study drew attention to certain aspects of the clinical learning climate in medical schools. Clinical teacher/instructor/supervisor, clinical training programs, students’ interactions in clinical settings, self-realization, mood, students’ intrinsic motivation, and institutional commitment are important components of the clinical learning climate. For this reason, the aforementioned components should be taken into consideration in studies aiming to improve clinical learning climate.

Introduction: It is stated that students cannot carry their knowledge on basic medical sciences that they gained with classical education to clinical classes and clinical practice and problem based learning (PBL) can compensate this drawback. It was aimed to evaluate the effect of PBL scenario written on this topic on level of knowledge about childhood poisoning of third class students who completed the most of theoretical pharmacology education.Materials and Method: A questionnaire form prepared by researchers was applied to randomly chosen PBL groups without writing names and on the basis of voluntariness before and after a case of childhood poisoning which was applied as the second PBL scenario in the second midterm of 2009-2010 academic years. Numbers, percentages, chi-square and student’s t-test were used for evaluation of the questionnaire form comprised of demographic data, open-closed ended questions for measuring attitudes and level of knowledge against case of poisoning and statements as making a priority ranking.Results: In the study group, 89 students took part in pre-test and 96 students took part in post-test. The (1E, 2E)-(4-bromophenyl)(hydroxyimino)acetaldehyde oxime complexes, [ML2], M = Co(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, FT-IR spectra, and thermal analysis techniques. The optical band gap of this ligand and its complexes were determined by UV-vis spectrophotometer in the wavelength range 300–800 nm. A decrease in the energy band gap of the [CoL2], [NiL2], and [CuL2] complexes has been observed compared with LH ligand. Temperature-dependent conductivity measurements showed that all samples behave like semiconductor. Activation energies calculated from Arrhenius plots showed that the conduction occurs via both intramolecular and the intermolecular processes.

Liquid-liquid extraction of various alkalis (Li+, Na+, K+, and Cs+), transition metals (Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Hg2+), and Pb2+ cations with phenylglyoxime (L1), p-tolylglyoxime (L2), N′-(4′-Benzo[15-crown-5])phenylaminoglyoxime (L3), and N′-(4′-Benzo[15-crown-5])-p-tolylaminoglyoxime (L4) from the aqueous phase into the organic phase was carried out. For comparison, the corresponding two glyoximes and their macrocyclic glyoxime ether derivatives were also examined. Crown ether groups having ligands (L3, L4) carry especially Na+ cation from aqueous phase to organic phase. The extraction equilibrium constants (Kex) for complexes of ligands with Cu2+ and Hg2+ metal picrates between dichloromethane and water have been determined at 25°C. The values of the extraction constants (logKex) were determined to be 12.27, 13.37, 12.94, and 12.39 for Cu2+ and 10.29, 10.62, 11.53, and 11.97 for Hg2+ with L1–L4, respectively.
