Maleimides, due to their unsaturated cycle, represent a starting point in obtaining the synthetic compounds in the organic and macromolecular chemistry. The applications of the compounds based on mono- and bismaleimides are varied in different fields. Montelukast is an antagonist of CysLT1 leukotrienes receptors. It was tested the effect of montelukast on pathological changes produced by experimental diabetes in liver and pancreas of rats. The experiment was done on three groups of adult male Wistar rats weighing 240-260g. First group was control group and received saline solution 1.5ml/kg ip in unique dose. Diabetes was induced in IInd and IIIrd group of rats by streptozotocin 70mg/kg ip in unique dose. Third group received also daily montelukast 5mg/kg/day 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, all animals were anesthetized and sacrificed. Liver and pancreas were examined using optical microscopy. The intensity of various types of lesions in each organ was quantified using a score between 0 and three. Results were interpreted by ANOVA test. Obtained data showed that control group had no liver and pancreatic lesions. In diabetes group, montelukast significantly reduced the frequency of injuries both in the liver and the pancreas. Conclusion is that the cysleukotriens are involved in diabetes induced pathological changes in liver and pancreas and the montelukast has a partial protective action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Satisfying the accommodation needs of the world's urban population requires high-rise buildings. Accommodating some of 3.5 billion urban population in complex apartments has created challenges including the human scale understanding of complex 3D property rights, and engineering and architectural features relating to building interiors. Technological developments have brought about the prevalence of inexpensive systems such as gaming consoles and smartphones. This paper explores the use of Kinect for Windows (a consumer grade technology that was originally designed for computer gaming purposes) to survey indoors in 3D. This paper presents the result of an investigation into the utility of this widespread and economical technology for 3D surveying of interiors of buildings in relation to Surveying (Cadastral Survey) Regulation 2005, Victoria, Australia. Building on the results of the investigation, the paper argues that such a technology has the potential to be used in other application domains and crowdsourcing 3D indoor information. Experimental and clinical data sustain the connection between diabetes mellitus and altered female reproductive function. Our animal research tested the influence of magnesium and zinc instreptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes mellitus in non-pregnant female rats. The study was performed on four groups, each one consisting of eight non-pregnant adult Wistar female rats, raised in usually laboratory conditions. The first group of female rats was the control group and did not receive any substance, the second group received STZ 60mg/kg i.p, (unique dose), the next group received STZ+ daily MgCl2 1 mmol/kg/day i.p. for 8 weeks and the last group received STZ+ZnCl20.05mmol/kg/day daily i.p. for 8 weeks. There were determined blood glucose level, total plasma Mg concentration, the animals total antioxidant capacity(TAS), before the STZ administration and after 8 weeks, At the end of the experiment, the animals were anesthetized and sacrificed. The obtained results were statistically interpreted by ANOVA test. Our experiment revealed that both magnesium and zinc decreased the number of atretic follicles and improved the endometrium thickness but only magnesium significantly increased the number of primordial follicles. The purpose of this study was to determine whether chronic periodontitis can stand behind the modifications observed in the salivary and blood concentration of some bivalent cations (Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Copper). The investigations were performed on an experimental group of 30 patients with clinically-onset chronic periodontitis, and on a control one, including 30 periodontitis-free patients. Total saliva samples were obtained as "first time in the morning" then weighed and processed. Cations were read on an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (Calcium, Copper and Zinc) and also by Ion Chromatography (Magnesium). The same patients were required to undergo laboratory blood tests for Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc. The obtained data were normalised, then statistically interpreted using two-tailed heteroscedastic t-Student tests. The results obtained showed a clear connection of blood magnesium, and also of salivary calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper, to chronic periodontitis. Salivary cations are therefore related to the local inflammatory status and associated pathological processes. Blood magnesium could be affected by chronic inflammation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Platelets pathology often refers to reduce the number or impaired platelet function as two separate things. The aim of our study was to investigate if, into a lot of healthy people, there is any correlation between morphology and platelet function. No correlations were found between morphological and functional platelet parameters; some strong correlation have been emphasized separately from some morphological parameters and separate from all functional parameters too. Bivalent cations have multiple actions in the oro-maxillary region. In patients with oro-maxillary area suppurations, our data revealed significant increase in the salivary magnesium concentration and a decrease in the serum zinc concentration. In maxillary sinusitis, there are no changes in the calcium and magnesium concentrations, whereas the plasmatic zinc level is decreased. Abstract: We screened 14 novel antagonists of the LTB4 and LTD4 receptors (also inhibitors of LTB4 synthesis) for their vasoactive properties in the isolated rat aorta. The compounds belong to three classes, e.g. quinoline (Q), phenetylamido (P), and resatophenone (R) derivatives. They are effectiveless in resting conditions and generally display a weak relaxing ability against contraction by either high K+ or α1 adrenoceptor activation, either in the presence or absence of a functional endothelium. There is little overlap with the generally lower concentration range where their anti-LT properties are already manifested. We could not find any correlation between any of the anti-LT properties and the vasorelaxant effects. Concerning the non-specific vasoactive properties, choice compounds of the examined groups could be further tested regarding the mechanisms of their relaxing effects. Given the many uncertainties concerning LT and vascular physiology, it may be worthy to proceed with this line of investigation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
