Abstract

The article discusses the result of a study which investigated the role of vitamin D deficiency and calcium-sensing receptor polymorphisms in persistent vertebral fractures and secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in kidney transplantation. It was found that low 25-vitamin D is involved in the pathogenesis of SHPT and it is a common feature after kidney transplantation. The study also suggests that high parathyroid hormone level is associated with an increased risk for vertebral fractures.
