2. A Swarming Approach to Optimize the One-hop Delay in Smart Driving Inter-platoon Communications

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a swarming approach and optimize the one-hop delay for interplatoon communications through adjusting the minimum contention window size of each backbone vehicle in two steps. In the first step, we first set a small enough average one-hop delay as the initial optimization goal and then propose a swarming approach to find a minimum average one-hop delay for inter-platoon communications through adjusting the minimum contention window of each backbone vehicle iteratively. In the second step, we first set the minimum average one-hop delay found in the first step as the initial optimization goal and then adopt the swarming approach again to get the one-hop delay of each backbone vehicle balance to the minimum average one-hop delay. The optimal minimum contention window sizes that get the one-hop delay of each backbone vehicle balance to the minimum average one-hop delay are obtained after the second step. The simulation results indicate that the one-hop delay is optimized and the other performance metrics including end-to-end delay, one-hop throughput and transmission probability are presented by using the optimal minimum contention window sizes., Comment: published by sensors. Abstract

Plasma fluctuations, the uncertainty of laser ablation, and bremsstrahlung limit the identification of online element analysis during laser processing and cause difficulty in achieving concentration results with sufficient accuracy and repeatability. A laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) online monitoring system with plasma spatial filtering and spectral screening is proposed to solve this problem. In this system, the high‐frequency ablation noise component of the plasma is eliminated using a specially designed optical Fourier filtering structure, and a spectral screening system based on plasma time waveform monitoring is used to suppress the influence of plasma fluctuations. Without noise filters or algorithm optimizations and based only on the basic internal standard method, the calibration curves of all nine elements in the alloy sample exhibits a Pearson's R2 value ranged from 0.91 to 0.99, with a mean of 0.94. The relative standard deviations are all in the range of 3.5%–8.4% with a mean of 5.4%. The accuracy and repeatability are comparable to those of typical LIBS systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Nd:GdVO4 has the advantages of a small thermal expansion coefficient, a large absorption bandwidth, and a large absorption and emission cross section, making it a good gain material for LED-pumping without active temperature control. In this paper, the LED-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser was first generated in the quasi-continuous-wave and the passively Q-switched regime. With the incident pump energy of 8.0 mJ, the Nd:GdVO4 laser demonstrated energy of 195 μJ at 1063 nm in the quasi-continuous-wave regime, the slope efficiency was 4.7%, and the optical conversion efficiency was 2.4%. In the passively Q-switched regime, Cr:YAG was used as a saturable absorber and the energy obtained was 6.53 μJ with a pulse duration of 806.8 ns. Abstract

Laser has controllable space-time characteristics and can be loaded on materials as a heat source in laser manufacturing, laser medical and other fields. In the thermal fatigue test of engine parts, thermal load can also be considered by laser beam. In this paper, a large aperture spatially shaped laser beam with complex and uneven intensity distribution is selected as the heat source for temperature field simulation. Using the method of key nodes selection, the temperature distribution of a few key nodes can reflect the desired temperature field of the whole nodes. Based on finite element model (FEM), through the numerical simulation of the temperature field, optimized intensity distribution of the shaped laser beam is calculated, and a diffractive optics element (DOE) is designed to achieve the shaping effect. The results show that a spatially shaped laser beam can be used for temperature field simulation.

Abstract

Multi-platooning is an important management strategy for autonomous driving technology. The backbone vehicles in a multi-platoon adopt the IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) mechanism to transmit vehicles&rsquo, kinematics information through inter-platoon communications, and then forward the information to the member vehicles through intra-platoon communications. In this case, each vehicle in a multi-platoon can acquire the kinematics information of other vehicles. The parameters of DCF, the hidden terminal problem and the number of neighbors may incur a long and unbalanced one-hop delay of inter-platoon communications, which would further prolong end-to-end delay of inter-platoon communications. In this case, some vehicles within a multi-platoon cannot acquire the emergency changes of other vehicles&rsquo, kinematics within a limited time duration and take prompt action accordingly to keep a multi-platoon formation. Unlike other related works, this paper proposes a swarming approach to optimize the one-hop delay of inter-platoon communications in a multi-platoon scenario. Specifically, the minimum contention window size of each backbone vehicle is adjusted to enable the one-hop delay of each backbone vehicle to get close to the minimum average one-hop delay. The simulation results indicate that, the one-hop delay of the proposed approach is reduced by 12% as compared to the DCF mechanism with the IEEE standard contention window size. Moreover, the end-to-end delay, one-hop throughput, end-to-end throughput and transmission probability have been significantly improved.
