We complete the classification of order $5$ nonsymplectic automorphisms on hyper-K\"ahler fourfolds deformation equivalent to the Hilbert square of a K3 surface. We then compute the topological Lefschetz number of natural automorphisms of generalized Kummer fourfolds and we describe the geometry of their fix loci.

We determine the automorphism group of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a generic projective K3 surface of any polarization. We obtain in particular new examples of Hilbert schemes of points having non-natural non-symplectic automorphisms. We study the cohomological properties of the fixed locus $X^G$ of an automorphism group $G$ of prime order $p$ acting on a variety $X$ whose integral cohomology is torsion-free. We obtain an precise relation between the mod $p$ cohomology of $X^G$ and natural invariants for the action of $G$ on the integral cohomology of $X$. We apply these results to irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of deformation type of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface: the main result of this paper is a formula relating the dimension of the mod $p$ cohomology of $X^G$ with the rank and the discriminant of the invariant lattice in the second cohomology space with integer coefficients of $X$., Comment: Some results improved. We define Enriques varieties as a higher dimensional generalization of Enriques surfaces and construct examples by using fixed point free automorphisms on generalized Kummer varieties. We present results indicating that the decomposition of a Ricci-flat manifold in its irreducible factors is reflected by the derived category of coherent sheaves. More precisely, we prove that a smooth projective variety that is derived equivalent to an abelian variety resp. an irreducible symplectic variety is of the same type. The paper also contains a proof of a conjecure of Caldararu for manifolds with trivial canonical bundle saying that the modified HKR isomorphism for Hochschild homology is compatible with the module structure., Comment: 25 pages

We calculate the cohomology spaces of the Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces with values in locally constant systems. For that purpose, we generalise I. Grojnoswki's and H. Nakajima's description of the ordinary cohomology in terms of a Fock space representation to the twisted case. We further generalise M. Lehn's work on the action of the Virasoro algebra to the twisted case. Building on work by M. Lehn and Ch. Sorger, we then give an explicit description of the cup-product in the twisted case whenever the surface has a numerically trivial canonical divisor. We formulate our results in a way that they apply to the projective and non-projective case in equal measure. As an application of our methods, we give explicit models for the cohomology rings of the generalised Kummer varieties and of a series of certain even dimensional Calabi--Yau manifolds., Comment: 16 pages

We prove a closed formula expressing any multiplicative characteristic class evaluated on the tangent bundle of the Hilbert schemes of points on a non-compact simply-connected surface. As a corollary, we deduce a closed formula for the Chern character of the tangent bundles of these Hilbert schemes. We also give a closed formula for the multiplicative characteristic classes of the tautological bundles associated to a line bundle on the surface. Let X be the quasi-projective symplectic surface that is given by the total space of the invertible sheaf O(-2) over the projective line. Let Hilb X be the family of Hilbert schemes of points on X. We give and prove a closed formula expressing any multiplicative characteristic class evaluated on the Hilb X in terms of the standard Fock space description of the cohomology of the Hilb X. As a side result, we also deduce a formula for the Chern character of the tangent bundles of the Hilb X. The results found here are another step towards a complete description of the tangent bundle of the Hilbert scheme of a general quasi-projective surface as the formulas given here yield certain coefficients in that description. In the study of the rational cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on a smooth surface, it is particularly interesting to understand the characteristic classes of the tautological bundles and the tangent bundle. In this note we pursue this study. We first collect all results appearing separately in the literature and prove some new formulas using T. Ohmoto's results on orbifold Chern classes on Hilbert schemes. We also explain the algorithmic counterpart of the topic: The cohomology space is governed by a vertex algebra that can be used to compute characteristic classes. We present an implementation of the vertex operators in the rewriting logic system {\sc Maude} and address observations and conjectures obtained after symbolic computations., Comment: 20 pages

Let $A$ be an algebra over an operad in a cocomplete closed symmetric monoidal category. We study the category of $A$-modules. We define certain symmetric product functors of such modules generalising the tensor product of modules over commutative algebras, which we use to define the notion of a jet module. This in turn generalises the notion of a jet module over a module over a classical commutative algebra. We are able to define Atiyah classes (i.e. obstructions to the existence of connections) in this generalised context. We use certain model structures on the category of $A$-modules to study the properties of these Atiyah classes. The purpose of the paper is not to present any really deep theorem. It is more about the right concepts when dealing with modules over an algebra that is defined over an arbitrary operad, i.e. the aim is to show how to generalise various classical constructions, including modules of jets, the Atiyah class and the curvature, to the operadic context. This article can be seen as a sequel to the first author's article ``Chern classes of the tangent bundle on the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane'', where he calculates the total Chern class of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane by proving a result on the existence of certain universal formulas expressing characteristic classes on the Hilbert schemes in term of Nakajima's creation operators. The purpose of this work is (at least) two-fold. First of all, we clarify the notion of ``universality'' of certain formulas about the cohomology of the Hilbert schemes by defining a universal algebra of creation operators. This helps us to reformulate and extend a lot of the first author's previous results in a very precise manner. Secondly, we are able to extend the previously found results by showing how to calculate any characteristic class of the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane in terms of the creation operators. In particular, we have included the calculation of the total Segre class and the square root of the Todd class. Using this methods, we have also found a way to calculate any characteristic class of any tautological sheaf on the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane. This in fact gives another complete description of the ring structure of the cohomology spaces of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane., Comment: 24 pages

Borisov and Libgober recently proved a conjecture of Dijkgraaf, Moore, Verlinde, and Verlinde on the elliptic genus of a Hilbert scheme of points on a surface. We show how their result can be used together with our work on complex genera of generalised Kummer varieties to deduce a formula for the elliptic genus of a generalised Kummer variety.

Let $A^{[[n]]}$ denote the $2(n - 1)$-dimensional generalised Kummer variety constructed from the abelian surface $A$. Further, let $X$ be an arbitrary smooth projective surface with $\int_X c_1(X)^2 \neq 0$, and $X^{[k]}$ the Hilbert scheme of zero-dimensional subschemes of $X$ of length $k$. We give a formula which expresses the value of any complex genus on $A^{[[n]]}$ in terms of Chern numbers of the varieties $X^{[k]}$. It is shown by Ellingsrud and Stroemme how to use Bott's residue formula to effectively calculate the Chern numbers of the Hilbert schemes $(\IP^2)^{[k]}$ of points on the projective plane. Since $\int_{\IP^2} c_1(\IP^2)^2 = 9 \neq 0$ we can use these numbers and our formula to calculate the Chern numbers of the generalised Kummer varieties. A table with all Chern numbers of the generalised Kummer varieties $A^{[[n]]}$ for $n \leq 8$ is included., Comment: 9 pages

In this article we investigate Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formulae for line bundles on irreducible symplectic K\"ahler manifolds. As Huybrechts has shown, for every irreducible complex K\"ahler manifold $X$ of dimension $2n$, there are numbers $a_0, a_2, ..., a_{2n}$ such that $\chi(L) = \sum_{k = 0}^n a_{2k}/(2k)! q_X(c_1(L))^k$ for the Euler characteristic of a line bundle $L$, where $q_X: H^2(X, \mathbbm C) \to \mathbbm C$ is the Beauville-Bogomolov quadratic form of $X$. Using Rozansky-Witten classes similar to Hitchin and Sawon, we obtain a formula expressing the $a_{2k}$ in terms of Chern numbers of $X$. Furthermore, for the $n$-th generalized Kummer variety $\KA n$, we prove $\chi(L) = (n + 1) \binom{q(c_1(L)) / 2 + n} n$ by purely algebro-geometric methods, where $q$ is the form $q_X$ up to a positive rational constant. A similar formula is already known for the Hilbert scheme of zero-dimensional subschemes of length $n$ on a K3-surface. Using our results, we are able to calculate all Chern numbers of the generalized Kummer varieties $\KA n$ for $n \leq 5$.
