This study explored the impact of interactive e-books on the viewing behaviors of children in science demonstrations at museums. To conduct this study, an interactive e-book on a pendulum experiment was developed and integrated into a physical science demonstration at a museum. Two scientific demonstrations were conducted in this study. The first demonstration was conducted using the conventional science demonstration method, without integrating the interactive e-book into the demonstration. The second was a science demonstration with an integrated interactive e-book. The study analyzed and compared the children's learning motivation, viewing behaviors, and knowledge gained in both demonstrations. The results showed that the different science demonstrations did not significantly affect the children's current knowledge gain or learning motivation. However, the sequence analysis revealed that in the conventional science demonstration without the interactive e-book, children were more engaged in observing the science demonstration, experiment, and instrument operation and interacting with neighboring viewers. In contrast, in the science demonstration with the integration of the interactive e-book, children had more physical involvement, including pointing at the answers in the e-book, swinging their arms with the pendulum animation, and nodding when confused about the expected results. In addition, the children who joined the demonstration with the interactive e-book made more attempts to learn about procedural knowledge. These results demonstrated that both learning modes have similar learning effects on children, indicating the feasibility of the two learning modes. Furthermore, the results revealed that children's needs might differ when engaged in different modes of science demonstrations; for example, conventional modes need more support from companions, whereas e-book modes need more children's physical participation.

Abstract Physical exercise is recognized for its beneficial effects on brain health and executive function, particularly through the careful manipulation of key exercise parameters, including type, intensity, and duration. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to delineate the optimal types, intensities, and durations of exercise that improve cognitive functions in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia. A comprehensive search was conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed from their inception until December 2023. The methodological quality and publication bias of the included studies were assessed using the PEDro scale and Egger’s regression test, respectively. Separate meta-analyses were performed to assess the overall impact of exercise on cognitive assessments and to explore the effects of different exercise types (i.e., aerobic, resistance, dual-task, mind-body, and multi-component exercises) and intensities (i.e., low, moderate, and high) on executive function. Results were presented as standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). A meta-regression analysis was conducted to examine the correlation between exercise duration and mean effects. In total, 15,087 articles were retrieved from three databases, of which 35 studies were included in our final analyses. The results indicated high overall methodological quality (PEDro score = 8) but a potential for publication bias (t = 2.08, p = 0.045). Abstract We present an in‐depth analysis of dyslipidemia management strategies for patients with diabetes mellitus in Taiwan. It critically examines the disparity between established guideline recommendations and actual clinical practices, particularly in the context of evolving policies affecting statin prescriptions. The focus is on synthesizing the most recent findings concerning lipid management in patients with diabetes mellitus, with a special emphasis on establishing consensus regarding low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol treatment targets. The article culminates in providing comprehensive, evidence‐based recommendations tailored to the unique needs of those living with diabetes mellitus in Taiwan. It underscores the criticality of personalized care approaches, which incorporate multifaceted factors, and the integration of novel therapeutic options to enhance cardiovascular health outcomes.

Failure of oocyte activation, including polyspermy and defects in pronuclear (PN) formation, triggers early embryonic developmental arrest. Many studies have shown that phospholipase C zeta 1 (PLCZ1) mutations cause failure of PN formation following intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI); however, whether PLCZ1 mutation is associated with polyspermy during in vitro fertilization (IVF) remains unknown. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed to identify candidate mutations in couples with primary infertility. Sanger sequencing was used to validate the mutations. Multiple PLCZ1-mutated sperm were injected into human and mouse oocytes to explore whether PN formation was induced. Assisted oocyte activation (AOA) after ICSI was performed to overcome the failure of oocyte activation. We identified three PLCZ1 mutations in three patients who experienced polyspermy during IVF cycles, including a novel missense mutation c.1154C>T, p.R385Q. PN formation failure was observed during the ICSI cycle. However, injection of multiple PLCZ1-mutated sperm induced PN formation, suggesting that the Ca2+ oscillations induced by the sperm exceeded the necessary threshold for PN formation. AOA after ICSI enabled normal fertilization, and all patients achieved successful pregnancies. These findings expand the mutational spectrum of PLCZ1 and suggest an important role for PLCZ1 in terms of blocking polyspermy. Furthermore, this study may benefit genetic diagnoses in cases of abnormal fertilization and provide potential appropriate therapeutic measures for these patients with sperm-derived polyspermy.

The cloud platform has limited defense resources to fully protect the edge servers used to process crowd sensing data in Internet of Things. To guarantee the network's overall security, we present a network defense resource allocation with multi-armed bandits to maximize the network's overall benefit. Firstly, we propose the method for dynamic setting of node defense resource thresholds to obtain the defender (attacker) benefit function of edge servers (nodes) and distribution. Secondly, we design a defense resource sharing mechanism for neighboring nodes to obtain the defense capability of nodes. Subsequently, we use the decomposability and Lipschitz continuity of the defender's total expected utility to reduce the difference between the utility's discrete and continuous arms and analyze the difference theoretically. Finally, experimental results show that the method maximizes the defender's total expected utility and reduces the difference between the discrete and continuous arms of the utility.

Abstract The presence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with differing prevalence between males and females. Although G6PD deficiency is an X-linked genetic condition, its interaction with sex regarding T2DM risk among the Taiwanese population has not been fully explored. This study aimed to investigate the association between G6PD deficiency and T2DM risk in the Taiwanese population, focusing on the potential influence of sex. Abstract Background Anesthetic drugs may alter exosomal microRNA (miRNA) contents and mediate cancer progression and tumor microenvironment remodeling. Our study aims to explore how the anesthetics (sevoflurane and propofol) impact the miRNA makeup within exosomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), alongside the interconnected signaling pathways linked to the tumor immune microenvironment. Methods In this prospective study, we collected plasma exosomes from two groups of HCC patients (n = 5 each) treated with either propofol or sevoflurane, both before anesthesia and after hepatectomy. Exosomal miRNA profiles were assessed using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Furthermore, the expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas-Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (TCGA-LIHC) was used to pinpoint the differentially expressed exosomal miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) attributed to the influence of propofol or sevoflurane in the context of HCC. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and gene set variation analysis (GSVA) were used to dissect the signaling pathways and biological activities associated with the identified DEmiRNAs and their corresponding target genes. Results A total of 35 distinct DEmiRNAs were exclusively regulated by either propofol (n = 9) or sevoflurane (n = 26). Through TCGA-LIHC database analysis, 8 DEmiRNAs were associated with HCC. These included propofol-triggered miR-452-5p and let-7c-5p, as well as sevoflurane-induced miR-24-1-5p, miR-122-5p, miR-200a-3p, miR-4686, miR-214-3p, and miR-511-5p. Background Congenital absence of the pericardium (CAP) is a rare cardiac abnormality. As pericardial defects are usually asymptomatic, most cases are diagnosed during surgery or on autopsy. The patient in this case was found to have CAP during thoracoscope. Case We present the unusual case of a 69-year-old patient with CAP who experienced sudden ventricular arrhythmia and developed ventricular fibrillation during left upper lobectomy. Surgical operations, the lateral decubitus position, and other external stimuli may be important risk factors for ventricular fibrillation. The patient regained sinus rhythm soon after intrathoracic cardiac compression and pharmacological treatment, including lidocaine spray (2%, 10 ml) administered to the heart surface. The surgery was then completed without any additional instances of ventricular arrhythmia. Conclusions Patients with CAP are more susceptible to cardiac-related adverse events during thoracotomy or thoracoscopy. Treatment of ventricular arrhythmias that occur during lung resection in patients with CAP should be emphasized.

Abstract Robotic surgery may be an alternative to laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer (GC). However, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting the differences in survival between these two approaches are currently lacking. From September 2017 to January 2020, 300 patients with cT1-4a and N0/+ were enrolled and randomized to either the robotic (RDG) or laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG) group (NCT03313700). The primary endpoint was 3-year disease-free survival (DFS); secondary endpoints reported here are the 3-year overall survival (OS) and recurrence patterns. The remaining secondary outcomes include intraoperative outcomes, postoperative recovery, quality of lymphadenectomy, and cost differences, which have previously been reported. There were 283 patients in the modified intention-to-treat analysis (RDG group: n = 141; LDG group: n = 142). The trial has met pre-specified endpoints. The 3-year DFS rates were 85.8% and 73.2% in the RDG and LDG groups, respectively (p = 0.011). Multivariable Cox regression model including age, tumor size, sex, ECOG PS, lymphovascular invasion, histology, pT stage, and pN stage showed that RDG was associated with better 3-year DFS (HR: 0.541; 95% CI: 0.314-0.932). The RDG also improved the 3-year cumulative recurrence rate (RDG vs. LDG: 12.1% vs. 21.1%; HR: 0.546, 95% CI: 0.302-0.990). Compared to LDG, RDG demonstrated non-inferiority in 3-year DFS rate.

Abstract CircRNAs are covalently closed, single-stranded RNA that form continuous loops and play a crucial role in the initiation and progression of tumors. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are indispensable for cancer development; however, the regulation of cancer stem cell-like properties in gastric cancer (GC) and its specific mechanism remain poorly understood. We elucidate the specific role of Circ-0075305 in GC stem cell properties. Circ-0075305 associated with chemotherapy resistance was identified by sequencing GC cells. Subsequent confirmation in both GC tissues and cell lines revealed that patients with high expression of Circ-0075305 had significantly better overall survival (OS) rates than those with low expression, particularly when treated with postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for GC. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that overexpression of Circ-0075305 can effectively reduce stem cell-like properties and enhance the sensitivity of GC cells to Oxaliplatin compared with the control group. Circ-0075305 promotes RPRD1A expression by acting as a sponge for corresponding miRNAs. The addition of LF3 (a β-catenin/TCF4 interaction antagonist) confirmed that RPRD1A inhibited the formation of the TCF4–β-catenin transcription complex through competitive to β-catenin and suppressed the transcriptional activity of stem cell markers such as SOX9 via the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. This leads to the downregulation of stem cell-like property-related markers in GC. This study revealed the underlying mechanisms that regulate Circ-0075305 in GCSCs and suggests that its role in reducing β-catenin signaling may serve as a potential therapeutic candidate.

Abstract Background Pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs) are common gland neoplasms demonstrating distinctive transcription factors. Although the role of immune cells in PitNETs has been widely recognized, the precise immunological environment and its control over tumor cells are poorly understood. Methods The heterogeneity, spatial distribution, and clinical significance of macrophages in PitNETs were analyzed using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), bulk RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, and multiplexed quantitative immunofluorescence (QIF). Cell viability, cell apoptosis assays, and in vivo subcutaneous xenograft experiments have confirmed that INHBA-ACVR1B influences the process of tumor cell apoptosis. Results The present study evaluated scRNA-seq data from 23 PitNET samples categorized into 3 primary lineages. The objective was to explore the diversity of tumors and the composition of immune cells across these lineages. Analyzed data from scRNA-seq and 365 bulk RNA sequencing samples conducted in-house revealed the presence of three unique subtypes of tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in PitNETs. These subtypes were characterized by varying levels of immune infiltration, ranging from low to intermediate to high. In addition, the NR5A1 lineage is primarily associated with the subtype characterized by limited infiltration of immune cells. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) expressing CX3CR1 + , C1Q + , and GPNMB + showed enhanced contact with tumor cells expressing NR5A1 + , TBX19 + , and POU1F1 +, respectively. This emphasizes the distinct interaction axes between TAMs and tumor cells based on their lineage. Moreover, the connection between CX3CR1 + macrophages and tumor cells via INHBA-ACVR1B regulates tumor cell apoptosis. Conclusions In summary, the different subtypes of TIME and the interaction between TAM and tumor cells offer valuable insights into the control of TIME that affects the development of PitNET. These findings can be utilized as prospective targets for therapeutic interventions.

Abstract Background We tried to identify the risk factor associate with early chronic kidney disease (CKD) in recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients by utilizing real-world data from Taiwan Diabetes Registry. Materials and methods Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus recently diagnosed within 1 year. We divided the study participants into control group and early CKD group. Early CKD was defined as either CKD stage G1 with albuminuria, CKD stage G2 with albuminuria, or CKD stage G3a regardless of albuminuria (Urine-albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥ 3 mg/mmol). Control group was defined as CKD G1 or CKD G2 without albuminuria. Logistic regression analyses were used to compare differences in clinical characteristics between the subgroups. Linear regression models were employed to examine the factors predicting estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and UACR. Results Total 2217 patients with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus were included. 1545 patients were assigned to control group and 618 patients were assigned to the early CKD group. Age (odds ratio (OR) 1.215, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.122–1.316), systolic blood pressure (OR 1.203, 95% CI 1.117–1.296), glycated hemoglobin (OR 1.074, 95% CI 1.023–1.129) and triglyceride (OR 2.18, 95% CI 1.485–3.199) were found to be significant risk factors. Further, presence of bidirectional association between UACR and eGFR was found. Conclusions We reported factors associated with early CKD in recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Variables that associated with eGFR and UACR were identified respectively, included a mutual influence between UACR and eGFR.

Abstract Background Cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) is considered as the most important endpoint for assessing the probability of having a baby in a complete in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) treatment cycle. Many previous studies have focused on the association between thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) and live birth rate after first embryo transfer cycle, however, evidence on whether the presence of TAI affects the CLBR is lacking. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of TAI on the CLBR in a complete IVF/ICSI cycle. Methods This retrospective study included 12,796 women who underwent their first IVF/ICSI treatment between January 2019 and February 2021. Based on the levels of thyroid antibodies, 2,603 women were assigned to the TAI group, and 10,193 women were assigned to the control group. Subgroup analysis was performed according to the different causes of infertility (including male factor only, ovulation disorder, tubal factor, endometriosis and unexplained infertility) and different types and titres of thyroid antibodies. The primary outcome in this study was CLBR, which included live births from the fresh embryo transfer cycle and all subsequent frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles performed before December 2021. Results There was no significant difference in the CLBR between the TAI and control groups, even after adjusting for relevant confounders including age, body mass index, cause of infertility, thyroid function, protocols of controlled ovarian stimulation, type of transfer (fresh vs. frozen), type of transferred embryo (cleavage-stage embryo vs. blastocyst), and fertilization method (IVF vs. ICSI) (cumulative live birth: 50.6% vs. 52.1%, OR 0.94, 95% CI 0.86–1.02, adjusted OR 0.97, 95%CI 0.89–1.06). Subgroup analysis showed that no significant difference was observed in CLBR between the TAI and control groups for all causes of infertility, except for infertility attributed to endometriosis. Among women with endometriosis, the CLBR was significantly lower in the TAI group than that in the control group; however, this difference was not significant after adjusting for potential confounders including age, body mass index, thyroid function, protocols of controlled ovarian stimulation, type of transfer (fresh vs. frozen), type of transferred embryo (cleavage-stage embryo vs. blastocyst), and fertilization method (IVF vs. ICSI) (cumulative live births: 43.1% vs. 51.0%, OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.53–0.99, adjusted OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.53–1.02). Another subgroup analysis demonstrated that the type and titre of thyroid antibody did not affect CLBR in women with TAI. Conclusions In our study, there was no significant difference in the CLBR between women with TAI and those without TAI, which suggests that TAI did not affect the chances of having a baby in a complete IVF/ICSI treatment cycle.

Background Checkpoint inhibitor therapy has demonstrated overall survival benefit in multiple tumor types. Tumor mutational burden (TMB) is a predictive biomarker for response to immunotherapies. This study evaluated the efficacy of nivolumab+ipilimumab in multiple tumor types based on TMB status evaluated using either tumor tissue (tTMB) or circulating tumor DNA in the blood (bTMB).Patients and methods Patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors with high (≥10 mutations per megabase) tTMB (tTMB-H) and/or bTMB (bTMB-H) who were refractory to standard therapies were randomized 2:1 to receive nivolumab+ipilimumab or nivolumab monotherapy in an open-label, phase 2 study (CheckMate 848; NCT03668119). tTMB and bTMB were determined by the Foundation Medicine FoundationOne® CDx test and bTMB Clinical Trial Assay, respectively. The dual primary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR) in patients with tTMB-H and/or bTMB-H tumors treated with nivolumab+ipilimumab.Results In total, 201 patients refractory to standard therapies were randomized: 135 had tTMB-H and 125 had bTMB-H; 82 patients had dual tTMB-H/bTMB-H. In patients with tTMB-H, ORR was 38.6% (95% CI 28.4% to 49.6%) with nivolumab+ipilimumab and 29.8% (95% CI 17.3% to 44.9%) with nivolumab monotherapy. In patients with bTMB-H, ORR was 22.5% (95% CI 13.9% to 33.2%) with nivolumab+ipilimumab and 15.6% (95% CI 6.5% to 29.5%) with nivolumab monotherapy. Early and durable responses to treatment with nivolumab+ipilimumab were seen in patients with tTMB-H or bTMB-H. The safety profile of nivolumab+ipilimumab was manageable, with no new safety signals.Conclusions Patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors with TMB-H, as determined by tissue biopsy or by blood sample when tissue biopsy is unavailable, who have no other treatment options, may benefit from nivolumab+ipilimumab.Trial registration number NCT03668119.

Background: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the predominant type of malignant B-cell lymphoma. Although various treatments have been developed, the limited efficacy calls for more and further exploration of its characteristics. Methods: Datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were used for identifying the tumor purity of DLBCL. Survival analysis was employed for analyzing the prognosis of DLBCL patients. Immunohistochemistry was conducted to detect the important factors that influenced the prognosis. Drug-sensitive prediction was performed to evaluate the value of the model. Results: VCAN, CD3G, and C1QB were identified as three key genes that impacted the outcome of DLBCL patients both in GEO datasets and samples from our center. Among them, VCAN and CD3G+ T cells were correlated with favorable prognosis, and C1QB was correlated with worse prognosis. The ratio of CD68 + macrophages and CD8 + T cells was associated with better prognosis. In addition, CD3G+T cells ratio was significantly correlated with CD68 + macrophages, CD4 + T cells, and CD8 +T cells ratio, indicating it could play an important role in the anti-tumor immunity in DLBCL. The riskScore model constructed based on the RNASeq data of VCAN, C1QB, and CD3G work well in predicting the prognosis and drug sensitivity. Conclusions: VCAN, CD3G, and C1QB were three key genes that influenced the tumor purity of DLBCL, and could also exert certain impact on drug sensitivity and prognosis of DLBCL patients. Introduction: Following the introduction of incretin-based drugs to the market, instances of acute pancreatitis have been reported, leading the FDA to mandate a warning label. Incretin-based therapy has been linked to a rare yet significant adverse event known as acute pancreatitis. However, these concerns of use of incretin therapy remained an ongoing debate.Methods: This retrospective cohort study was extracted data from the National Health Insurance (NHI) program in Taiwan focused on those having prior hospitalization history of acute pancreatitis. We identified adult patients with type 2 diabetes, all patients who received new prescriptions one year after the diagnosis of hospitalization for acute pancreatitis for DPP-4 inhibitors (index date). Study participants were divided into two groups: those taking DPP-4 inhibitors (the DPP-4 inhibitors group, n = 331) and those not taking DPP-4 inhibitors (the non- DPP-4 inhibitors group, n = 918). The outcome of interest is the recurrence of hospitalization of acute pancreatitis.Results: The incidence density (per 1000 person-years) of acute pancreatitis was 23.16 for DPP-4 inhibitors group and 19.88 for non-DPP-4 inhibitor group. The relative risk is 0.86 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.53–1.38). Results from the Cox proportional hazard model (HR) analysis, the DPP-4 inhibitor was associated with a neutral risk of acute pancreatitis HR 0.68; 95% CI: 0.42–1.09.Conclusions: In this extensive nationwide cohort study conducted in Taiwan, involving a substantial number of newly diagnosed cases, the utilization of DPP-4 inhibitors appears to show no significant correlation with an elevated risk of acute pancreatitis, even among diabetic patients deemed to be at a high risk. These results extend the safety reassurance of incretin-based therapy to individuals considered high-risk for such complications.

Introduction: Membranous aplasia cutis congenita (MACC) is the most common clinical subtype of aplasia cutis congenita (ACC). It is typified by a localized skin lesion devoid of hair and features a membranous surface. While most MACC individuals do not present with concurrent abnormalities, it can sometimes co-occur with additional physical anomalies and various malformation syndromes. Moreover, the underlying causes of MACC remain elusive. Case presentation: We describe a case of a 6-month-old female infant diagnosed with MACC. The patient presented with a midline skin lesion on the occipital scalp, characterized by a glistening surface and a hair collar sign. Dermoscopic examination revealed specific features, including translucency, telangiectasia, and hypertrichosis. The infant had a history of patent foramen ovale, and further examination uncovered an asymptomatic ventricular septal defect. Whole exome sequencing revealed 20 gene variants relevant to the clinical phenotype of the patient, suggesting a possible association with MACC. Conclusion: MACC is a rare and underreported condition, primarily diagnosed based on its distinctive clinical features. It is imperative to emphasize the significance of thorough evaluations in MACC patients, encompassing developmental, cardiac, neurological, and genetic assessments to facilitate early detection and the exclusion of potentially life-threatening comorbidities. Importantly, genetic characterization, as demonstrated in this case, contributes to our understanding of MACC's etiology and highlights the need for further research in this field.

The ionic liquid, as a new treatment agent, has been increasingly applied in oil fields due to its strong temperature resistance, good solubility and high surface activity. In this paper, we systematically discuss the action mechanism and application effect of ionic liquids in oilfield chemistry. Ionic liquids can inhibit shale hydration expansion and reduce fluid loss through adsorption and intercalation, inhibit the formation of natural gas hydrate through imidazole five-membered ring structure as a space barrier, reduce viscosity of heavy oil by breaking chemical bonds of heavy oil macromolecules and charge transfer, improve oil displacement efficiency by forming ions pairs with carboxyl groups in crude oil, demulsify by forming channels between dispersed water droplets, acidify the formation by reacting with water to produce acid, interacts with organic material through weak hydrogen bonds and extracts it from oilfield wastewater, desulphurize by inserting sulfide molecules into the “stack” structure and form liquid inclusion complex, inhibit corrosion by forming a protective film on the metal surface. Based on the above aspects, the development direction of ionic liquids is proposed. The application of ionic liquids in oilfield chemistry is still in its infancy. It is urgent to fully explore the application performance of ionic liquids in oilfield chemistry, which also provides theoretical and technical supports for efficient reservoir development.

Abstract Site selection for building solar farms in deserts is crucial and must consider the dune threats associated with sand flux, such as sand burial and dust contamination. Understanding changes in sand flux can optimize the site selection of desert solar farms. Here we use the ERA5-Land hourly wind data with 0.1° × 0.1° resolution to calculate the yearly sand flux from 1950 to 2022. The mean of sand flux is used to score the suitability of global deserts for building solar farms. We find that the majority of global deserts have low flux potential (≤ 40 m3 m-1 yr-1) and resultant flux potential (≤ 2.0 m3 m-1 yr-1) for the period 1950–2022. The scoring result demonstrates that global deserts have obvious patchy distribution of site suitability for building solar farms. Our study contributes to optimizing the site selection of desert solar farms, which aligns with the United Nations sustainability development goals for achieving affordable and clean energy target by 2030.

Abstract Biliary tract infection (BTI), a commonly occurring abdominal disease, despite being extensively studied for its initiation and underlying mechanisms, continues to pose a challenge in the quest for identifying specific diagnostic biomarkers. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), which emanate from diverse cell types, serve as minute biological entities that mirror unique physiological or pathological conditions. Despite their potential, there has been a relatively restricted exploration of EV-oriented methodologies for diagnosing BTI. To uncover potent protein biomarkers for BTI patients, we applied a label-free quantitative proteomic method known for its unbiased and high-throughput nature. Furthermore, 192 differentially expressed proteins surfaced within EVs isolated from individuals afflicted with BTI. Subsequent GO and KEGG analyses pinpointed Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) and Crumbs homolog 3 (CRB3) as noteworthy biomarkers. Validation via data analysis of plasma-derived EV samples confirmed their specificity to BTI. Our study leveraged an unbiased proteomic tool to unveil CEACAM1 and CRB3 as promising protein biomarkers in serum EVs, presenting potential avenues for the advancement of diagnostic systems for BTI detection.

Abstract With the increase of aging population and prevalence of obesity, the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer has also presented an increasing tendency. These two different diseases, which share some common risk factors. Relevant studies in the field of reversing Cardio-Oncology have shown that the phenotype of CVD has a significant adverse effect on tumor prognosis, which is mainly manifested by a positive correlation between CVD and malignant progression of concomitant tumors. This distal crosstalk and the link between different diseases makes us aware of the importance of diagnosis, prediction, management and personalized treatment of systemic diseases. The circulatory system bridges the interaction between CVD and cancer, which suggests that we need to fully consider the systemic and holistic characteristics of these two diseases in the process of clinical treatment. The circulating exosome-miRNAs has been intrinsically associated with CVD -related regulation, which has become one of the focuses on clinical and basic research (as biomarker). The changes in the expression profiles of cardiovascular disease-associated miRNAs (Cardio-miRNAs) may adversely affect concomitant tumors. In this article, we sorted and screened CVD and tumor-related miRNA data based on literature, then summarized their commonalities and characteristics (several important pathways), and further discussed the conclusions of Cardio-Oncology related experimental studies. We take a holistic approach to considering CVD as a risk factor for tumor malignancy, which provides an in-depth analysis of the various regulatory mechanisms or pathways involved in the dual attribute miRNAs (Cardio-/Onco-miRNAs). These mechanisms will be key to revealing the systemic effects of CVD on tumors and highlight the holistic nature of different diseases. Therefore, the Cardio-miRNAs should be given great attention from researchers in the field of CVD and tumors, which might become new targets for tumor treatment. Meanwhile, based on the principles of precision medicine (such as the predictive preventive personalized medicine, 3PM) and reverse Cardio-oncology to better improve individual outcomes, we should consider developing personalized medicine and systemic therapy for cancer from the perspective of protecting cardiovascular function.

Abstract Background Patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) have a high restenosis rate, which increases the risk of stroke, and there is still a lack of effective treatment for restenosis. The cause of stenosis is related to local inflammatory reactions. Some basic studies have shown that the inflammatory response causing arterial stenosis is closely related to the nerve axons distributed in its outer membrane, and that removal of the nerve is effective in reducing the inflammatory response to prevent arterial stenosis. Therefore, we propose to design a randomized controlled trial to study whether disconnecting the carotid sinus nerve during a CEA operation can reduce carotid arterial restenosis. Method/design This study is a randomized, double-blind, single-center study. We will recruit 276 patients, who will be randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. Based on the standard CEA operation, the operator will search for the carotid sinus nerve on the surface of the internal carotid artery and will entirely transect it in the experimental group. Both groups will be guided with the same postoperative treatment and will be followed up every 3 months for 3 years after the operation. The main indices observed will be the carotid restenosis rate, incidence and nature of carotid plaque, and carotid blood flow velocity. Other indices will be arrhythmia, blood pressure variability, and biomarkers of atherosclerosis, such as blood lipids, hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), homocysteine, and total bilirubin. Discussion It is expected that carotid sinus nerve transection will significantly reduce the occurrence of restenosis after CEA, decrease the incidence of ischemic stroke, and realize the effective primary prevention of stroke. BackgroundIn 2022, the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) launched a consensus on the diagnostic methods for sarcopenic obesity (SO). The study aimed to identify the prevalence and diagnostic agreement of SO using different diagnostic methods in a cohort of subjects from West China aged at least 50 years old.MethodsA large multi-ethnic sample of 4,155 participants from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study was analyzed. SO was defined according to the newly published consensus of the ESPEN/EASO. Furthermore, SO was diagnosed as a combination of sarcopenia and obesity. The criteria established by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS2019) were used to define sarcopenia. Obesity was defined by four widely used indicators: percent of body fat (PBF), visceral fat area (VFA), waist circumference (WC), and body mass index (BMI). Cohen’s kappa was used to analyze the diagnostic agreement of the above five diagnostic methods.ResultsA total of 4,155 participants were part of the study, including 1,499 men (63.76 ± 8.23 years) and 2,656 women (61.61 ± 8.20 years). The prevalence of SO was 0.63–7.22% with different diagnostic methods. The diagnosis agreement of five diagnostic methods was poor-to-good (κ: 0.06–0.67). The consensus by the ESPEN/EASO had the poorest agreement with other methods (κ: 0.06–0.32). AWGS+VFA had the best agreement with AWGS+WC (κ = 0.67), and consensus by the ESPEN/EASO had the best agreement with AWGS+ PBF (κ = 0.32).ConclusionThe prevalence and diagnostic agreement of SO varies considerably between different diagnostic methods. AWGS+WC has the highest diagnostic rate in the diagnosis of SO, whereas AWGS+BMI has the lowest. AWGS+VFA has a relatively good diagnostic agreement with other diagnostic methods, while the consensus of the ESPEN/EASO has a poor diagnostic agreement. AWGS+PBF may be suitable for the alternative diagnosis of the 2022 ESPEN/EASO.

Background: The mouse orthotopic single lung transplant (LTx) model is an important scientific tool to explore LTx immunology. C57BL/10J (B10, H-2b) to C57BL/6J (B6, H-2b) minor alloantigen-mismatched LTx exhibits mild acute rejection and chronic fibrosis, mimicking human LTx, where acute rejection is dampened by immunosuppressants and chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) develops over time. However, we have observed variations in allograft histology across experiments, which were not explained by animal vendor or experimental conditions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate those variations objectively. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of B10-to-B6 LTx performed in our laboratory 2012-2019. Only LTx without experimental interventions (eg, immunomodulatory agents or genetic modifications) examined at day 28 was eligible for this study. Mice from each surgeon were selected and divided into 3 groups to represent early, middle, and late timepoints in their mouse LTx experience (143 LTx from 5 surgeons). Histology from these LTx was graded in a randomized and blinded manner. Pathological variations and trajectories were graphed; logistic regression analyses were performed for statistical assessment. Results: Distribution and trajectories of pathological outcomes were significantly different across surgeons. In multivariable logistic regression analyses, surgeon was associated with pathological outcomes whereas case number was not. Longer warm ischemia time was associated with more severe pleural fibrosis. Conclusions: The B10 to B6 single LTx model can be a powerful tool to recapitulate CLAD-like histology. However, this is a challenging operation and surgeon-dependent variability in histopathological findings needs to be taken into account when designing experimental protocols.

BackgroundA jaundice-predominant presentation of Kawasaki disease (KD) is atypical.MethodsA total of 12 children with KD with a predominant manifestation of jaundice at MacKay Children's Hospital were reviewed, along with 42 cases reported in the literature since 1990.ResultsThe median age of the 12 patients was 1.85 years (range: 3 months–4 years), and 66.6% were male. All of the patients had elevated liver function at presentation, 50% had hydrops of the gallbladder, and almost 60% had gastrointestinal symptoms and signs. Complete KD was evident in 11 of the 12 patients (91.7%), and two patients (16.7%) had recurrent episodes. All of the patients received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG); however, one-third were refractory to treatment. Corticosteroids were used in five (41.7%) of the patients. Three (25%) of the patients had shock, and seven (58.3%) had coronary artery abnormalities, of whom one (8.3%) had persistent coronary artery aneurysm and the others recovered. A review of the 42 cases in the literature showed that the children with a jaundice-predominant presentation of KD had high rates of IVIG-refractory disease (25%), coronary artery abnormalities (25%), shock (13.2%), and corticosteroid treatment (24.2%).ConclusionsChildren with KD presenting with a jaundice-predominant manifestation are at a higher risk of IVIG-refractory disease, coronary artery abnormalities, and more recurrent episodes. Physicians should be aware of the risk of shock in this population.

These characteristics are related to differential breakpoints and various types of chromosomal abnormalities. To investigate the effects of X chromosome translocation on clinical phenotype, a retrospective analysis of clinical data for patients with X chromosome translocation was conducted. Karyotype analysis plus endocrine evaluation was utilized for all the patients. Additional semen analysis and Y chromosome microdeletions were assessed in male patients. Background and purpose: Pneumonia and bronchopneumonia are the most common infectious diseases in children. This study aimed to analyze changes in causative pathogens and antibiotic use for bronchopneumonia or pneumonia after the introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in children. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from 2009 to 2019. Hospitalized children aged 6 months–3 years with a discharge diagnosis of bronchopneumonia or pneumonia were included to analyze changes in the potential mismatch between the diagnosed pathogen and antibiotic use. Abstract Background Tarlov’s cyst is often underdiagnosed since it is difficult to identify without imaging assistance. Herein, we report the case of a young girl who presented with an 8-year history of chronic osteomyelitis of bilateral proximal phalanges and metatarsal bones caused by a Tarlov’s cyst that did not contain a nerve root. The chronic wound in the forefoot is an unusual presentation and resulted from the Tarlov’s cyst accompanied with tethered conus syndrome. Case presentation A 10-year-old Asian girl presented with an 8-year history of chronic osteomyelitis of bilateral proximal phalanges and metatarsal bones. She received sequestrectomy five times, however the immune function tests were all normal. A neurological examination revealed diminished sensation and a slapping gait pattern. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a lobulated cyst at the right aspect of the sacrum (S) 1 to sacrum (S) 3 canal near the dorsal root ganglion. Tethered conus syndrome was highly suspected. She received laminectomy of lumbar (L) 5 and S1–S2, which led to the diagnosis of a right S1–S3 epidural cyst. The final diagnosis from the histopathological examination was a right sacral Tarlov’s cyst. The clinical conditions of diminished sensation and slapping gait pattern greatly improved after successful surgical treatment. Conclusion In children who present with a recalcitrant chronic wound in the forefoot accompanied with a slapping gait pattern and foot hypoesthesia to pain, aggressive imaging examinations such as spine MRI should be arranged for further evaluation, especially in immunocompetent children.

Abstract Hyperglycemia-induced aberrant glucose metabolism is a causative factor of neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK)–lactic acid axis is regarded as a critical link between metabolic reprogramming and the pathogenic process of neurological disorders. However, its role in diabetic neuropathy remains unclear. Here, we found that PDK1 and phosphorylation of pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) were obviously increased in high glucose (HG)-stimulated primary neurons and Neuro-2a cell line. Acetyl-coA, a central metabolic intermediate, might enhance PDK1 expression via histone H3K9 acetylation modification in HG condition. The epigenetic regulation of PDK1 expression provided an available negative feedback pattern in response to HG environment-triggered mitochondrial metabolic overload. However, neuronal PDK1 was decreased in the hippocampus of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. Our data showed that the expression of PDK1 also depended on the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) transcriptional activation under the HG condition. However, HIF-1 was significantly reduced in the hippocampus of diabetic mice, which might explain the opposite expression of PDK1 in vivo. Importantly, overexpression of PDK1 reduced HG-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and neuronal apoptosis. Enhancing PDK1 expression in the hippocampus ameliorated STZ-induced cognitive impairment and neuronal degeneration in mice. Together, our study demonstrated that both acetyl-coA-induced histone acetylation and HIF-1 are necessary to direct PDK1 expression, and enhancing PDK1 may have a protective effect on cognitive recovery in diabetic mice. Abstract Background Endometriosis is a common and complex syndrome characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Chinese medicine has been recently found to show good efficacy in treating endometriosis. Our previous results revealed that Maqian fruit essential oil (MQEO) could inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of ectopic endometrial stromal cells (EESCs), but the mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we aim to explore the molecular mechanism of MQEO’s specific effects in EESCs. Methods We conducted a quantitative proteomics analysis by iTRAQ on EESCs treated with MQEO or DMSO. Then deep analysis was performed based on differentially expressed proteins, including Gene Ontology enrichment analysis, pathway enrichment analysis and protein interaction analysis. Candidate protein targets were subsequently verified by western blotting. Results Among 6575 identified proteins, 435 proteins exhibited altered expression levels in MQEO-treated EESCs. Of these proteins, most were distributed in signal transduction as well as immune system and the most significantly altered pathway was complement and coagulation cascades. Moreover, two differentially expressed proteins (Heme oxygenase 1 and Acyl-CoA 6-desaturase) were verified and they can be potential biomarkers for endometriosis treatment. Conclusions Our proteomic analysis revealed distinct protein expression patterns induced by MQEO treatment in EESCs, highlighting the potential of MQEO for endometriosis treatment and biomarker discovery.

Abstract Dementia, as an advanced diabetes-associated cognitive dysfunction (DACD), has become the second leading cause of death among diabetes patients. Given that little guidance is currently available to address the DACD process, it is imperative to understand the underlying mechanisms and screen out specific therapeutic targets. The excessive endogenous fructose produced under high glucose conditions can lead to metabolic syndrome and peripheral organ damage. Although generated by the brain, the role of endogenous fructose in the exacerbation of cognitive dysfunction is still unclear. Here, we performed a comprehensive study on leptin receptor-deficient T2DM mice and their littermate m/m mice and revealed that 24-week-old db/db mice had cognitive dysfunction and excessive endogenous fructose metabolism in the hippocampus by multiomics analysis and further experimental validation. We found that the rate-limiting enzyme of fructose metabolism, ketohexokinase, is primarily localized in microglia. It is upregulated in the hippocampus of db/db mice, which enhances mitochondrial damage and reactive oxygen species production by promoting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase 4 (NOX4) expression and mitochondrial translocation. Inhibiting fructose metabolism via ketohexokinase depletion reduces microglial activation, leading to the restoration of mitochondrial homeostasis, recovery of structural synaptic plasticity, improvement of CA1 pyramidal neuron electrophysiology and alleviation of cognitive dysfunction. Our findings demonstrated that enhanced endogenous fructose metabolism in microglia plays a dominant role in diabetes-associated cognitive dysfunction and could become a potential target for DACD.

Abstract Background To investigate the diagnostic value of conventional white light endoscopy (WLE), narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopy, and Lugol's iodine staining under WLE (endoscopic iodine staining) in the screening and early diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Patients with nasopharyngeal lesions requiring biopsy attending the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in our hospital between January 2021 and April 2023 were included in this study. Before biopsy, all subjects underwent conventional WLE, NBI endoscopy, and endoscopic iodine staining. On WLE, according to nasopharyngeal lesion morphology and color, patients were diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma ( +) or chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis (-). On NBI endoscopy, according to nasopharyngeal lesion vascular morphology, patients with type V manifestations (nasopharyngeal carcinoma) were categorized as NBI ( +) and patients with type I-IV manifestations (chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis) were categorized as NBI (-). Endoscopic iodine staining (1.6% Lugol's iodine solution) was positive ( +) if the mucosal surface was brown with no white patches, or negative (-) if there was no or light brown staining of the mucosal surface. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on histopathological diagnosis: nasopharyngeal carcinoma or chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis. Endoscopic diagnoses were compared with histopathological findings. The diagnostic performance of WLE, NBI endoscopy and endoscopic iodine staining for nasopharyngeal carcinoma were determined. Results This study included 159 patients. On histopathology, 29 patients were diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and 130 patients were diagnosed with chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis. There were no significant differences in the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), accuracy, and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of conventional WLE, NBI endoscopy or endoscopic iodine staining for differentiating nasopharyngeal carcinoma and chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis. The diagnostic performance of the combination of conventional WLE, NBI endoscopy and endoscopic iodine staining was significantly improved compared to any procedure alone. Conclusions Conventional WLE, NBI endoscopy or endoscopic iodine staining had good diagnostic performance for differentiating nasopharyngeal carcinoma and chronic hyperplastic nasopharyngitis. In particular, NBI endoscopy and endoscopic iodine staining alone or combined had clinical utility for identifying patients with nasopharyngeal lesions that are eligible for a watch-and-wait strategy.

Abstract Background Chemoresistance is a major clinical challenge that leads to tumor metastasis and poor clinical outcome. The mechanisms underlying gastric cancer resistance to chemotherapy are still unclear. Methods We conducted bioinformatics analyses of publicly available patient datasets to establish an apoptotic phenotype and determine the key pathways and clinical significance. In vitro cell models, in vivo mouse models, and numerous molecular assays, including western blotting, qRT-PCR, immunohistochemical staining, and coimmunoprecipitation assays were used to clarify the role of factors related to apoptosis in gastric cancer in this study. Differences between datasets were analyzed using the Student’s t-test and two-way ANOVA; survival rates were estimated based on Kaplan–Meier analysis; and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate prognostic factors. Results Bulk transcriptomic analysis of gastric cancer samples established an apoptotic phenotype. Proapoptotic tumors were enriched for DNA repair and immune inflammatory signaling and associated with improved prognosis and chemotherapeutic benefits. Functionally, cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) promoted apoptosis of gastric cancer cells and sensitized cells and mice to oxaliplatin. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that CDK5 stabilizes DP1 through direct binding to DP1 and subsequent activation of E2F1 signaling. Clinicopathological analysis indicated that CDK5 depletion correlated with poor prognosis and chemoresistance in human gastric tumors. Conclusion Our findings reveal that CDK5 promotes cell apoptosis by stabilizing DP1 and activating E2F1 signaling, suggesting its potential role in the prognosis and therapeutic decisions for patients with gastric cancer.

Abstract Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging-guided lymphadenectomy has been demonstrated to be effective in increasing the number of lymph nodes (LNs) retrieved in laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer (GC). Previously, we reported the primary outcomes and short-term secondary outcomes of a phase 3, open-label, randomized clinical trial (NCT03050879) investigating the use of ICG for image-guided lymphadenectomy in patients with potentially resectable GC. Patients were randomly (1:1 ratio) assigned to either the ICG or non-ICG group. The primary outcome was the number of LNs retrieved and has been reported. Here, we report the primary outcome and long-term secondary outcomes including three-year overall survival (OS), three-year disease-free survival (DFS), and recurrence patterns. The per-protocol analysis set population is used for all analyses (258 patients, ICG [n = 129] vs. non-ICG group [n = 129]). AbstractScutellaria franchetiana H.Lév. 1911 is an important medicinal plant distributed on hillside wetlands at an altitude of 830-2300 m. The total length of complete chloroplast genome of S. franchetiana 151,852 bp of 38.37% GC content. It is a typical quadratic structure with four subregions consisting of a large single-copy region (83,894 bp), a small single-copy region (17,520 bp), and a pair of inverted repeats (25,219 bp). In the chloroplast genome of S. franchetiana, 130 genes were detected, comprising 86 protein-encoding genes, eight ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 36 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. The comparative analysis of complete chloroplast genome sequences including 68 common genes of 27 plants indicates that S. franchetiana has a close relative relationship with Scutellaria orthocalyx and Scutellaria meehanioides. This work reported the first chloroplast genome of S. franchetiana, which provided a potential reference for studying phylogenetic relationships of the Scutellaria genus.

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous and aggressive type of breast cancer with a poor prognosis and a high recurrence rate. Chemotherapy is still the mainstay of treatment for cancer patients without a genetic BRCA mutation, despite the approval of Olaparib, an inhibitor of the poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) enzyme. Tripartite motif containing-21 (TRIM21) is one of the TRIM family members that has been investigated in various types of cancer. Here, we found that a low TRIM21 expression level was correlated with poor overall survival of TNBC patients. Knockout of TRIM21 promoted the proliferation of TNBC cells in vivo and in vitro, as well as migratory and invasive capabilities in vitro. Importantly, breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1) was identified as a ubiquitination substrate of TRIM21. It was confirmed that BRCA1 was upregulated after Olaparib treatment, which may explain the relative resistance of BRCA1-proficient TNBC cells to Olaparib. Moreover, Sorafenib, a standard treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma, increased the sensitivity of TNBC cells to Olaparib by promoting TRIM21-mediated ubiquitination degradation of BRCA1. Thus, a synergic effect of Olaparib and Sorafenib was found in vitro and in vivo. This combined treatment also aggravated DNA damage, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis of TNBC cells. Abstract Background Arterial stiffness contributes to additional cardiovascular risks in diabetic patients by triggering the loss of vascular and myocardial compliance and promoting endothelial dysfunction. Thus, prevention of arterial stiffness is a public health priority, and the identification of potential biomarkers may provide benefits for early prevention. This study investigates the relationships between serum laboratory tests and pulse wave velocity (PWV) tests. We also investigated the associations between PWV and all‐cause mortality. Methods We examined a panel of 33 blood biomarkers among diabetic populations in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study. The carotid‐femoral (cfPWV) and femoral‐ankle PWV (faPWV) were measured using an automated cardiovascular screening device. The aortic‐femoral arterial stiffness gradient (afSG) was calculated as faPWV divided by cfPWV. Biomarker levels were log‐transformed and correlated with PWV. Cox proportional hazard models were employed for survival analysis. Results Among 1079 diabetic patients, biomarkers including high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, glycated hemoglobin, high‐sensitivity troponin T, cystatin C, creatinine, and albuminuria were significantly correlated with afSG (R = 0.078, −0.193, −0.155, −0.153, −0.116, and −0.137, respectively) and cfPWV (R = −0.068, 0.175, 0.128, 0.066, 0.202, and 0.062, respectively). Compared with the lowest tertile of afSG, the risk of all‐cause mortality was lower in the highest tertile (hazard ratio 0.543; 95% confidence interval 0.328–0.900). Conclusion Certain biomarkers related to blood glucose monitoring, myocardial injury, and renal function significantly correlated with PWV, suggesting that these putative risk factors are likely to be important atherosclerosis mechanisms in diabetic patients. AfSG may be an independent predictor of mortality among diabetic populations.

Crack generation and propagation are critical aspects of grinding processes for hard and brittle materials. Despite extensive research, the impact of residual cracks from coarse grinding on the cracks generated during fine grinding remains unexplored. This study aims to bridge this gap by examining the propagation law of existing cracks under indentation using the extended finite element method. The results reveal that prefabricated cracks with depths less than the crack depth produced on an undamaged surface tend to extend further without surpassing the latter. Conversely, deeper prefabricated cracks do not exhibit significant expansion. A novel method combining indentation and prefabricated cracks with fracture strength tests is proposed to determine crack propagation. Silicon wafers with varying damaged surfaces are analyzed, and changes in fracture strength, measured by the ball-on-ring method, are utilized to determine crack propagation. The experimental results confirm the proposed crack evolution law, validated by damage assessments across different grinding processes, which is suitable for crack damage. The findings demonstrate that residual cracks from coarse grinding are negligible in predicting the maximum crack depth during fine grinding. This research provides a crucial foundation for optimizing the wafer thinning process in 3D stacked chip manufacturing, establishing that changes in fracture strength are a reliable indicator of crack propagation feasibility.

Medium-nickel cobalt-free cathode materials have attracted much attention in recent years for their low cost and high energy density. However, the structural stability of nickel-based cathode materials becomes compromised when accompanied by the increasing of voltage, leading to poor cycling performance and, thus, hindering their widespread industrial application. In this work, we investigated the optimal charge cut-off voltage for the nickel-based cathode material LiNi0.6Mn0.4O2 (NM64). Within the voltage range of 3.0 to 4.5 V, the electrode energy density reached 784.08 Wh/kg, with an initial Coulombic efficiency of 84.49%. The reversible specific capacity at 0.1 C reached 197.84 mAh/g, and it still maintained a high reversible specific capacity of nearly 150 mAh/g, with a capacity retention rate of 86% after 150 cycles at 1 C. Furthermore, NM64 exhibited an intact morphological structure without noticeable cracking after 150 cycles, indicating excellent structural stability. This study emphasizes the relationship between the stability of NM64 cathodes and different operating voltage ranges, thereby promoting the development of high-voltage layered nickel-based cathode materials.

Background Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric problems, affecting approximately 1 in 12 children and 1 in 4 adolescents. Understanding the incidence, burden and correlated risks of anxiety disorders among children and adolescents can help identify areas of success, stagnation and emerging threats, thereby facilitating effective improvement strategies.Aims To estimate the incidence and burden trends of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents from 1990 to 2019 in 204 countries and compare the incidence and disease burden in different countries. To examine the association between anxiety disorders and social indicators (healthcare access and quality of life).Methods Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. The age-standardised incidence rates (ASIRs) and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were reported to assess the burden of anxiety disorders, and the estimated annual percentage change was calculated to quantify the temporal trends. Pearson’s correlation was used to investigate country-level risk factors for incidence and DALYs.Results Globally, there were 932 million incident cases of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, 739.29 per 100 000 ASIRs and 380.62 million DALYs in 2019. From 1990 to 2019, the estimated annual percentage change of incidence of anxiety disorders decreased by 2.2%. Significant variations were observed in the age-standardised burden rate and the changing trend of anxiety disorders among countries. Portugal reported the highest ASIR of anxiety disorders, while Mexico had the largest increase rate of ASIR. In 2019, Portugal reported the highest number of DALYs (1001.71 million), and India (212.09 million) reported the lowest number of DALYs. The burden of anxiety disorders was positively correlated with the average number of psychiatrists, psychologists and nurses in the mental health sector (per 100 000), and quality of life and the correlation coefficients were 0.58, 0.67, 0.43 and 0.53, respectively.Conclusions The incidence and global burden of anxiety disorders in adolescents have continued to decrease over the past 30 years. However, the incidence and disease burden in developed countries are still increasing steadily. Policymakers should design and implement mental health strategies for adolescents based on their specific developmental status, as well as the cultural and regional characteristics of each country.
