Abstract

We have measured the 7Li(n, ?)8Li reaction at Accurate Neutron-Nucleus Reaction Measurement Instrument (ANNRI) installed at the Material and Life science experimental Facility in the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC / MLF) . In this experiment, we used intense pulsed neutron beam provided by J-PARC / MLF and high performance Ge spectrometer, which is one of the main detectors of the ANNRI. We clearly detected ? rays from the 7Li(n, ?)8Li reaction with sufficient signal-to-noise ratio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report an analysis of the mean-square-displacement of single particle motions in single-layered, multi-layered, and 3-dimensional (3D) colloidal crystals by digital video microscopy. The essential feature of the time evolution of the mean-square-displacement for thin-layered colloidal crystals is the logarithmic divergence in the large delay-time region. With an increase in the number of layers, such divergence diminishes and the long delay-time behavior gradually approaches the convergence seen for a 3D crystal. Abstract

We analyzed the particle motion in colloidal crystals by digital video microscopy, and obtained the dispersion relation of amplitude and relaxation time for the normal cooperative relaxation mode of particle dynamics. These results were found to be differ from the prediction of simple overdamped bead-spring lattice (OBS) model which predicts relaxation time to be proportional to |q|-2 for small q region. These discrepancies are believed to be the results of hydrodynamic coupling between particles. We found that relaxation mode in which large number of particles move to the same direction, i.e. small q, has much shorter relaxation time compared to the simple theory. So we introduce a simple power law dependence to dispersion relation of the q-dependent viscous drag coefficient and lattice factor. 49. Light-scattering study of depolymerization kinetics of sickle hemoglobin polymers inside single erythrocytes.

Abstract

The time course of intracellular depolymerization of hemoglobin S aggregates is directly observed by using microscope laser light-scattering spectroscopy in single sickle erythrocytes upon slow reoxygenation. From the correlation functions of the light intensity scattered from a single cell, we determine the average diffusion coefficient as well as the fraction of hemoglobin aggregates that have intracellular mobility. The oxygen saturation of the hemoglobin of the same cell is measured by single-cell absorption spectrophotometry. Combining the results obtained with these techniques and information on the cellular morphology, we propose a model for the depolymerization process of hemoglobin inside single erythrocytes as they transform from the fully sickled to the normal biconcave shape upon reoxygenation.

Abstract

A 66-year-old female had ischemic heart disease due to left main lesion complicated with calcified ascending aorta, right pelvic carcinoma and liver cirrhosis. The combined operations with coronary artery bypass by left internal thoracic artery under the hypothermic ventricular fibrillation with cardiopulmonary bypass and right nephrectomy were performed successfully. Postoperatively Treadmill exercise test and scintigram revealed no ischemihc change. She is doing well. The aortocoronary bypass to left anterior descending artery using a left internal thoracic artery under hypothermic ventricular fibrillation with cardiopulmonary bypass might be one of surgical options for high risk patient.
