Purpose Evaluation of the efficacy of two novel formulations of arginine and theobromine in remineralizing artificial enamel defects using in vitro testing techniques- Microhardness and SEMMaterials and methods Enamel slabs measuring 3 mm by 3 mm by 1.5 mm were created using 11 healthy premolars that were excised for orthodontic treatment. Group 1 (control, treated with merely a remineralization solution), Group 2 (0.05% arginine in 10 ml distilled water), and Group 3 (2% theobromine in 10 ml distilled water) were the three groups to which the slabs were randomly allocated (n = 7 per group). The pH cycle was run for 14 days, starting with a 72-h demineralization period and ending with 11 days of remineralization in the corresponding solutions. Prior to and during remineralization, microhardness was measured, and surface features were assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Statistical analysis, including Paired T Test, one-way ANOVA, and post hoc Tukey tests, determined that the mean values were significant at the 0.05 level.Results The control group showed a mean microhardness increase from 192.09 ± 19.30 to 208.58 ± 5.76. The arginine group increased significantly from 217.20 ± 4.24 to 304.00 ± 15.96, and the theobromine group from 214.09 ± 7.67 to 283.14 ± 10.91. Background. Bonding is an important step in fixed orthodontic therapy and evaluation of bracket bond failures while using different bonding systems is required. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare bracket failure rates of a novel no primer adhesive with conventional primer-based orthodontic adhesives. Methods. This split mouth study was conducted among fifteen patients who underwent therapy with fixed orthodontic appliances using metal brackets. Total of 300 brackets were bonded and the bracket bond failure rates were assessed at the end of 3 months. The difference in bond failure rates between the two groups were assessed in different teeth. Descriptive statistics and chi-square test was performed. Results. Evaluation of bracket bond failure rates showed a higher incidence of bond failures in the group bonded with the primerless adhesive (6.3%) compared to conventional adhesive (2.3%) but there was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). No intergroup difference was found in the bracket failure rates of individual teeth (P>0.05). Conclusion. Higher incidence of bond failures were noted with brackets bonded with primerless adhesive when compared to primer-based adhesive but no significant difference was noted over a period of 3 months. Mandibular canine and premolars had a higher bracket failure rate with no significant difference between the adhesives.

Introduction: White Spot Lesions (WSLs), also known as “white opacity,” are the result of the demineralisation occurring on tooth surfaces in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. In addition to the various other factors, development of WSLs can also be influenced by the type of brackets and ligation employed. Aim: Evaluating the prevalence of WSL among patients who underwent fixed orthodontic treatment with passive self-ligation mechanotherapy. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted using photographic records of patients who received orthodontic treatment using a passive self-ligation system at Saveetha Dental College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The records of 97 patients in the age range of 10 to 30 years who received orthodontic treatment using the Damon self-ligating system regardless of gender were obtained from April 2016 to April 2021. The presence of WSL was investigated retrospectively before and after treatment. Modified Gorelick’s scale was used for scoring the lesions. Statistical analysis was carried out using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 17.0 and paired t-tests were done. Results: Data of total of 97 subjects (45 females (46.39%) and 52 males (54.63%), mean age: 17.70±5.72 years) undergoing orthodontic treatment with self-ligation brackets was included in the study. The overall prevalence percent of WSLs in the study was 71.13%. The prevalence of WSLs among females was 70.5% and in males, it was 73%. The aim of this study is to find the knowledge, attitude and awareness of biocompatibility of orthodontic materials among dental students.A survey of 13 questions was created using Google Forms. The questions on the survey cover a wide range of topics including the awareness of cytotoxicity of orthodontic materials, their corrosive potential, ways of preventing corrosion and release of subsequent substances, and various means by which these physiological actions occur. This survey was circulated among dental undergraduate students and the responses recorded were then transferred to SPSS software. Here we conducted descriptive analysis to produce a pie chart and Chi square test to determine the association and statistical significance.The results were noted and examined in the form of bar graphs. The p value for this study was found to be 0.01, which makes this study statistically significant. The awareness about the biocompatibility of orthodontic materials among dental students was found to be low. Continuing dental education programs can be conducted to constantly improve the knowledge regarding the judicious and ecofriendly use of all newly available dental materials.

The current study aimed at evaluation of the awareness of undergraduate dental students regarding the use of digital imaging that are used for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. An online survey using google forms was conducted among the undergraduate dental students as a part of this study setting. The sample size of participants was 109. The survey was composed of a set of 14 questions including demographics. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institutionalized ethical committee. SPSS software was used for data analysis and descriptive statistics. Among the entire population, 46.2% participants said that they would be using digital dental imaging during their practices and in their career and the remaining 53.8% participants said that they would not be using digital imaging due to various reasons. This study found out that undergraduate dental students have an average level of awareness regarding the use of digital dental imaging that are used for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment.

This survey aimed at evaluating the knowledge and awareness regarding the various retention protocols used in orthodontic practice. A survey has been conducted among the dental students by circulating 15 close-ended questions online to analyze the data collected on the protocols and trends in orthodontic retention. The male and female distribution among the study population was evaluated, and the retention protocols used were computed; statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Ninety-four percent accepted that Hawley retainers are predominantly used compared to fixed retainers. Eighty-seven percent agreed that they aim at a more stable dentition by the completion of orthodontic treatment. The Chi-square test on the knowledge of respondents on the permanent retention to be followed after orthodontic treatment to close generalized spacing is statistically not significant, P = 0.056. Within the considered limitations, it is clear that there is awareness among the dentists regarding the use of a retention appliance to ensure stability at the finish of orthodontic treatment. But the protocol for the same remains variable. Further studies can be performed to identify the effectiveness of each of the different retention protocols and their indications in various cases.

The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the use of composites for orthodontic purposes among dental students. The questionnaire was designed to evaluate knowledge, attitude, and awareness. Google Forms was used for the distribution of questions. This is a questionnaire survey based on knowledge, attitude, and awareness regarding the use of composites for orthodontic purposes among dental students; 86% of them had awareness regarding the use of composites for orthodontic purposes, wherein the remaining 14% were not aware. Considering the limitations of the study groups, we can conclude that the knowledge, attitude, and awareness regarding the use of composites for orthodontic purposes among dental students were good. However, there is still a lack of knowledge in few perspectives which can be overcome with continuous dental education programs and lectures

The current study's objective is to learn more about how patients, depending on their gender, perceive, feel, and know about orthodontic therapy.There was a cross-sectional survey among 100 patients to evaluate their knowledge and attitude toward orthodontic treatment. The questionnaire was prepared and circulated among patients using online google forms. The online responses were collected and tabulation of the data was done in excel sheets. Data was analysed using statistical software. Chi square test to compare the association of gender and patients knowledge regarding orthodontic treatment. In the current study 53% of the study population had visited an orthodontist. 79.6% of the patients are conscious that their teeth can be aligned properly by an orthodontist. 73.5% think that teeth should be properly positioned for a better facial appearance. According to the findings in the present study, it is evident that there is awareness and understanding regarding the orthodontic treatment among patients.

The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of usage of various removable appliances among undergraduate dental students in private dental colleges. Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, India. A dental record of patients was investigated. Data evaluation was completed and entered into Microsoft Excel. Gender distribution among the cohorts was assessed. The most commonly used appliance is Hawley's appliance (61), followed by Essix retainer (25), Begg's wrap-around retainer (23), Hawley's appliance with tongue crib (16), cantilever spring (7), splint (7), and T spring (1), respectively. The majority of the females (36) took Hawley's appliance. The difference was not statistically significant between both the arches and between the male and female population. Hawley's appliance is the most commonly used removable appliance among dental graduates.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge and awareness regarding the use of three-dimensional (3D)-printed appliances used in orthodontics among students pursuing dentistry. The distribution of the questionnaire was done using an online Google Forms link to about 100 dental students. The questionnaire compromised questions that were designed for assessing the various findings and knowledge of update, and finally, questions related to facts on various 3D-printing appliances. Among the total population, 58% of the population are aware of 3D printing used for various dental applications, whereas 42% of the population are not aware of the same. Inside the limits of the review, it very well may be inferred that 3D-printed machines have a rising use in the majority of the dental fields and understudies chasing after dentistry know about it. The knowledge about the basic and fundamental working and the usage of such appliances is developing among undergraduate students. Further continuing education programs can be provided to improve the same.

Introduction: Trajectories of force determines the trabecular pattern of bone. In transverse malocclusions, force trajectories are altered which can affect the trabecular pattern. Hence, it is important to study the trabecular pattern associated with transverse malocclusions. Aim: Assessment of trabecular pattern changes on Intraoral Periapical Radiographs (IOPA) in subjects with dental crossbites using fractal analysis. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Orthodontics at Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Science, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from October 2021 to December 2021. The study involved 30 IOPAs in 15 patients with unilateral first mandibular molar teeth in crossbite. The sample was divided into two groups. Group A has 15 IOPAs of mandibular molars in crossbite side, group B has 15 IOPAs of mandibular molars not in crossbite. A Region of Interest (ROI) of 256×256 pixels were selected between the roots of the premolar and mandibular molars and converted into an 8-bit image with image J software. Fractal dimensional analysis with box counting was used to assess trabecular perimeter and the trabecular number. Normality of the data was assessed by Shapiro-Wilk test and an Independent t-test was carried out to find intergroup differences. Results: The IOPAs of 15 subjects (9 males and 6 females) were included in the study with mean age of 27±8 years with unilateral mandibular first molar in crossbite. Shapiro-Wilk tests p-values was not significant (p-value >0.05) for both groups ensuring normality of data. The mean fractal dimensions measured were 0.867 (group A) and 1.213 (group B). The mean trabecular perimeter in group A was 86.37±29.31 whereas in group B it was 194.62±43.26 and the intergroup difference was significant (p-value
