Background: This case illustrates the importance of prompt assessment and treatment of orbital cellulitis. In fact the ocular signs and symptoms may be associated with systemic complications which should be investigated and identified as soon as possible to avoid a poor prognosis.Case Presentation: A 46-year-old white woman presented to our emergency room with proptosis, ophthalmoplegia, and conjunctival chemosis of her left eye. An ophthalmologist, having diagnosed orbital cellulitis in her left eye, suspected a cavernous sinus thrombosis. Hematochemical and radiological examinations confirmed the cavernous sinus thrombosis and also showed septic pulmonary embolism. A blood culture indicated Streptococcus constellatus, which is a member of the Peptostreptococcus family, a saprophyte of the oral mucosa that can be pathogenic in immunocompromised persons. The odontogenic origin was then confirmed by dental radiography which showed a maxillary abscess. Her eye signs regressed after antibiotic and anticoagulant therapy.Conclusions: This complex case shows the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for the management of orbital cellulitis, for the prompt diagnosis and treatment of eye injuries and possible complications, so as to avoid serious and permanent sequelae. Abstract We have newly developed a Hybrid Photo-Detector (HPD) with 2-inch diameter. It consists of a bialkali photocathode and a 3 mm x 3 mm Multi-Pixel-Photon Counter (MPPC) sealed in a glass tube. The electric field inside the tube is designed so that photoelectrons emitted from the photocathode are collected in the MPPC, where photoelectrons are amplified. For conventional HPDs with an avalanche diode, extremely high voltage such as -8kV has to be provided to achieve gain sufficient for single photon detection. However, our HPD with MPPC has single photon sensitivity only with lower voltage like PMTs due to high gain of MPPC. In addition, this device can cover larger area with only one MPPC. These features enable us to easily handle high performance HPD in various applications, such as high energy physics, biomedical field etc. This test sample was produced in 2016, and we have checked its basic characteristics. The peak photocathode quantum efficiency was found to be very high of 37% at the wavelength of 340 nm. We have confirmed that HPD with MPPC has capability of single photon detection in low operation voltage less than -2 kV. This report will present detailed performance studies of this sample. The VSiPMT (Vacuum Silicon PhotoMultiplier Tube) is an original design for an innovative light detector we proposed with the aim to create new scientific instrumentation for future missions of exploration and observation of the universe. The idea behind this device is to replace the classical dynode chain of a photomultiplier tube with a silicon photomultiplier, the latter acting as an electron detector and amplifier. In this way we obtain a large area photodetector with an excellent photon counting, proper of the SiPMs, but with the dark noise of only one SiPM (1-inch is equivalent to  ∼ 54 SiPM 3 × 3 mm 2 ). From this point of view, the VSiPMT offers very attractive features and unprecedented performance in large area detection, such as: negligible power consumption, excellent SPE resolution, easy low-voltage-based stabilization and very good time performance. Abstract: This paper reports the latest developments for the photogrammetric open‐source tool called GRAPHOS (inteGRAted PHOtogrammetric Suite). GRAPHOS includes some recent innovations in the image‐based 3D reconstruction pipeline, from automatic feature detection/description and network orientation to dense image matching and quality control. GRAPHOS also has a strong educational component beyond its automated processing functions, reinforced with tutorials and didactic explanations about algorithms and performance. The paper highlights recent developments carried out at different levels: graphical user interface (GUI), didactic simulators for image processing, photogrammetric processing with weight parameters, dataset creation and system evaluation. The magnetic ground states in highly ordered double perovskites LaSr1−xCaxNiReO6 (x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0) are studied in view of the Goodenough-Kanamori rules of superexchange interactions in this paper. In LaSrNiReO6, Ni and Re sublattices are found to exhibit curious magnetic states separately, but no long range magnetic ordering is achieved. The magnetic transition at ~255 K is identified with the independent Re sublattice magnetic ordering. Interestingly, the sublattice interactions are tuned by modifying the Ni-O-Re bond angles through Ca doping. Upon Ca doping, the Ni and Re sublattices start to display a ferrimagnetically ordered state at low temperature. The neutron powder diffraction data reveals long range ferrimagnetic ordering of the Ni and Re magnetic sublattices along the crystallographic b-axis. The transition temperature of the ferrimagnetic phase increases monotonically with increasing Ca concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
