Search

Discrete and mixed-variable optimization problems have appeared in several real-world applications. Most of the research on mixed-variable optimization considers a mixture of integer and continuous variables, and several integer handlings have been developed to inherit the optimization performance of the continuous optimization methods to mixed-integer optimization. In some applications, acceptable solutions are given by selecting possible points in the disjoint subspaces. This paper focuses on the optimization on sets of points and proposes an optimization method by extending the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES), termed the CMA-ES on sets of points (CMA-ES-SoP). The CMA-ES-SoP incorporates margin correction that maintains the generation probability of neighboring points to prevent premature convergence to a specific non-optimal point, which is an effective integer-handling technique for CMA-ES. In addition, because margin correction with a fixed margin value tends to increase the marginal probabilities for a portion of neighboring points more than necessary, the CMA-ES-SoP updates the target margin value adaptively to make the average of the marginal probabilities close to a predefined target probability. We explore off-policy evaluation and learning (OPE/L) in contextual combinatorial bandits (CCB), where a policy selects a subset in the action space. For example, it might choose a set of furniture pieces (a bed and a drawer) from available items (bed, drawer, chair, etc.) for interior design sales. This setting is widespread in fields such as recommender systems and healthcare, yet OPE/L of CCB remains unexplored in the relevant literature. Typical OPE/L methods such as regression and importance sampling can be applied to the CCB problem, however, they face significant challenges due to high bias or variance, exacerbated by the exponential growth in the number of available subsets. To address these challenges, we introduce a concept of factored action space, which allows us to decompose each subset into binary indicators. This formulation allows us to distinguish between the ''main effect'' derived from the main actions, and the ''residual effect'', originating from the supplemental actions, facilitating more effective OPE. Specifically, our estimator, called OPCB, leverages an importance sampling-based approach to unbiasedly estimate the main effect, while employing regression-based approach to deal with the residual effect with low variance. OPCB achieves substantial variance reduction compared to conventional importance sampling methods and bias reduction relative to regression methods under certain conditions, as illustrated in our theoretical analysis. By utilizing a multi-orbital periodic Anderson model with parameters obtained from \textit{ab initio} band structure calculations, combined with degenerate perturbation theory, we derive effective Kondo-Heisenberg and spin Hamiltonians that capture the interaction among the effective magnetic moments. This derivation encompasses fluctuations via both non-magnetic $4f^0$ and magnetic $4f^2$ virtual states, and its accuracy is confirmed through comparison with experimental data obtained from CeIn$_3$. The significant agreement observed between experimental results and theoretical predictions underscores the potential of deriving minimal models from first-principles calculations for achieving a quantitative description of $4f$ materials. Moreover, our microscopic derivation unveils the underlying origin of anisotropy in the exchange interaction between Kramers doublets, shedding light on the conditions under which this anisotropy may be weak compared to the isotropic contribution., Comment: 30 pages, 16 figures

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the zero-shot performance of Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) in 3D segmentation of abdominal organs in CT scans, leveraging its video tracking capabilities for volumetric medical imaging. Materials and Methods: Using a subset of the TotalSegmentator CT dataset (n=123) from 8 different institutions, we assessed SAM 2's ability to segment 8 abdominal organs. Segmentation was initiated from three different Z-coordinate levels (caudal, mid, and cranial levels) of each organ. Performance was measured using the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC). We also analyzed organ volumes to contextualize the results. Results: As a zero-shot approach, larger organs with clear boundaries demonstrated high segmentation performance, with mean(median) DSCs as follows: liver 0.821(0.898), left kidney 0.870(0.921), right kidney 0.862(0.935), and spleen 0.891(0.932). Smaller or less defined structures showed lower performance: gallbladder 0.531(0.590), pancreas 0.361(0.359), and adrenal glands 0.203-0.308(0.109-0.231). Significant differences in DSC were observed depending on the starting initial slice of segmentation for different organs. A moderate positive correlation was observed between volume size and DSCs (Spearman's rs = 0.731, P <.001 at caudal-level). DSCs exhibited high variability within organs, ranging from near 0 to almost 1.0, indicating substantial inconsistency in segmentation performance between scans. Conclusion: SAM 2 demonstrated promising zero-shot performance in segmenting certain abdominal organs in CT scans, particularly larger organs with clear boundaries. The model's ability to segment previously unseen targets without additional training highlights its potential for cross-domain generalization in medical imaging. We have studied the leptonic EDM and the LFV decays relating with the recent data of anomalous magnetic moment of muon, $(g-2)_{\mu}$, in the framework of the SMEFT with the Stringy Ansatz. We have adopted the successful $\Gamma_2$ modular invariant model by Meloni-Parriciatu as the flavor symmetry of leptons. Suppose the anomaly of $(g-2)_{\mu}$, $\Delta a_{\mu}$ to be evidence of New Physics (NP), we have related it with the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron $\Delta a_e$, the electron EDM $d_e$ and the $\mu\to e \gamma$ decay. We found that the NP contributions to $\Delta a_{e(\mu)}$ are proportional to the lepton masses squared likewise the naive scaling $\Delta a_\ell \propto m^2_\ell$. The experimental constraint of $|d_e|$ is much tight compared with the one from the branching ratio $\mathcal{B}(\mu \to e \gamma)$ in our framework. Supposing the phase of our model parameter $\delta_{\alpha}$ for the electron to be of order one, we have estimated the upper-bound of $\mathcal{B}(\mu \to e \gamma)$, which is at most $10^{-21}-10^{-20}$. If the model parameters $\delta_{\alpha}$, $\delta_{\beta}$ (for muon) and $\delta_{\gamma}$ (for tauon) are real, leptonic EDMs vanish since the CP phase of the modular form due to modulus $\tau$ does not contribute to the EDM. However, we can obtain $\mathcal{B}(\mu \to e \gamma)\simeq 10^{-13}$ with non-vanishing $d_e$, that is the case, only $\delta_{\alpha}$ is real while the others are complex. Then, the imaginary part of $\delta_{\beta}$ can lead to $d_e$ in the next-to-leading contribution. The predicted electron EDM is below $10^{-32}$e\,cm, while $\mathcal{B}(\mu \to e \gamma)$ is close to the experimental upper-bound. The predicted upper-bound of $|d_\mu|$ is rather large, around $10^{-23}$e\,cm and of $|d_\tau|$ is $ 10^{-22}$e\,cm. We search for predictability of lepton masses and mixing patterns of type-II seesaw scenario in a non-holomorphic modular $A_4$ symmetry recently proposed by "Qu" and "Ding". We propose three types of minimum predictive models with different assignments of modular weight, satisfying the neutrino oscillation data in Nufit 5.2. We discuss multi-$Z'$ signatures coming from decays of Higgs bosons in models with a spontaneously broken $U(1)'$ symmetry, which can be observed as "lepton jets" or multi-lepton final states depending on the mass range of new bosons. We consider anomaly-free $U(1)'$ models without introducing new fermions except for right-handed neutrinos, in which the Higgs sector is composed of an isospin doublet and a singlet fields with zero and non-zero $U(1)'$ charges, respectively. The multi-$Z'$ signatures can then be obtained via the decays of the discovered (extra) Higgs boson $h$ ($\phi$), i.e., $h\to Z'Z'$, $\phi \to Z'Z'$ and/or $h \to \phi\phi \to 4Z'$ as far as kinematically allowed. We give the upper limit on the branching ratios of $h$ into $Z'Z'$ and $4Z'$ from the current experimental data in each model. We also show the deviation in the $hhh$ coupling from the standard model prediction at one-loop level, and find that its amount is typically smaller than 1\%., Comment: 26 pages, 4 figures

A muon-flux measurement behind the beam dump of the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility was performed with a compact muon detector that can be inserted into a vertical observing hole which was dug underground with 81 mm in diameter. The flux of the muons penetrating the beam dump was scanned vertically at intervals of 0.5 m, showing a wide distribution with a maximum at the beam level. The muon flux was consistent with the expectation from a Monte-Carlo simulation at more than 1 m away from the beam axis, which is expected to be used for signal-loss evaluation in the future KOTO II experiment for measuring rare kaon decays. Phonons-quantized vibrational modes in crystalline structures-govern phenomena ranging from thermal and mechanical transport to quantum mechanics. In recent years, a new class of artificial materials called phononic crystals has emerged, aiming to control phononic properties. These materials are created by introducing a superlattice structure on top of an already-existing atomic lattice. Typically, phononic crystals are described using a continuous model, in which effective elastic constants approximate potentials between atoms. This approximation, however, assumes the wavelengths of vibrations to be significantly greater than the interatomic distance. In this work, we experimentally investigate the behavior of a honeycomb silicon phononic crystal in the gigahertz range, where the continuum approximation holds, and in the terahertz range, where the phonon wavelengths are comparable to interatomic distances. Using Brillouin light scattering, we investigate the phonon dispersion of the phononic crystal in the gigahertz range, finding a close match with simulations based on the continuous model. Conversely, Raman spectroscopy reveals no difference between the phononic crystal, an unpatterned membrane, and a bulk silicon structure in the terahertz range, showing that the continuous model no longer holds at these higher frequencies., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Gas giant planets are formed by gas accretion onto planetary cores in protoplanetary disks. However, direct evidence of this process is still lacking, limiting our understanding of planetary formation processes. During mass accretion, planet-driven outflows may be launched, which could be observable by shock tracers such as sulfur monoxide (SO). We report the detection of SO gas in the protoplanetary disk around TW Hya in archival Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) observations. The $\rm SO\ J=8_7 - 7_6\ $ emission line is detected at a $6\sigma$ significance and localized to the southeast region of the disk with an arc-like morphology. The line center is red-shifted with respect to the systemic velocity by $\sim5\ \rm km\ s^{-1}$. The starting point of the SO emission is located at a planet-carved dust gap at $42$ au. We attribute this to an outflow driven by an embedded protoplanet. Indeed, the observed morphology is well reproduced by a ballistic outflow model. The outflow velocity suggests that the outflow launching source has a mass of $\sim 4 M_\oplus\ (0.012 M_{\rm Jup})$ and the mass-loss rate is $3\times10^{-8} - 1\times10^{-6}\ M_{\rm Jup}\ {\rm yr^{-1}}$. With the relation of mass-loss and mass-accretion rates established for protostars, we estimated the mass-accretion rate onto the protoplanet to be $3\times10^{-7} - 1\times10^{-5}\ M_{\rm Jup}\ {\rm yr^{-1}}$, which matches theoretical predictions for a $\sim 4 M_\oplus$ planet at this separation. We study a quasi two-zero neutrino texture based on type-II seesaw model in a modular $A_4$ symmetry to evade the cosmological bound on the sum of neutrino mass while keeping some predictability in neutrino sector. Soft robots have gained significant attention due to their flexibility and safety, particularly in human-centric applications. The co-design of structure and controller in soft robotics has presented a longstanding challenge owing to the complexity of the dynamics involved. Despite some pioneering work dealing with the co-design of soft robot structures and actuation, design freedom has been limited by stochastic design search approaches. This study proposes the simultaneous optimization of structure and controller for soft robots in locomotion tasks, integrating topology optimization-based structural design with neural network-based feedback controller design. Here, the feedback controller receives information about the surrounding terrain and outputs actuation signals that induce the expansion and contraction of the material. We formulate the simultaneous optimization problem under uncertainty in terrains and construct an optimization algorithm that utilizes automatic differentiation within topology optimization and neural networks. The chemical complexity in low-metallicity hot cores has been confirmed by observations. We investigate the effect of varying physical parameters, such as temperature, density and the cosmic ray ionisation rate (CRIR), on the molecular abundance evolution in low-metallicity hot cores using the UMIST gas phase chemical model. CRIR had the strongest effect on molecular abundance. The resultant molecular abundances were divided into three categories with different trends in time evolution. We compared our results with the observations of hot cores in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Our model fits best with the observations at a time of around $10^5$ years after the evaporation of ice and at the CRIR of $1.36 \times 10^{-16}$ s$^{-1}$. The resultant abundances of the oxygen-bearing complex organic molecules (COMs), such as CH$_3$OH, HCOOCH$_3$ and CH$_3$OCH$_3$, do not fit with observations in the same physical condition and may be located in a different physical environment. Our results suggest that investigating the CRIR value is crucial to predict the molecular evolution in LMC hot cores.

Recent observations suggest that planets formation starts early, in protostellar disks of $\le10^5$ yrs, which are characterized by strong interactions with the environment, e.g., through accretion streamers and molecular outflows. To investigate the impact of such phenomena on disk physical and chemical properties it is key to understand what chemistry planets inherit from their natal environment. In the context of the ALMA Large Program Fifty AU STudy of the chemistry in the disk/envelope system of Solar-like protostars (FAUST), we present observations on scales from ~1500 au to ~60 au of H$_2$CO, HDCO, and D$_2$CO towards the young planet-forming disk IRS~63. H$_2$CO probes the gas in the disk as well as in a large scale streamer (~1500 au) impacting onto the South-East (SE) disk side. We detect for the first time deuterated formaldehyde, HDCO and D$_2$CO, in a planet-forming disk, and HDCO in the streamer that is feeding it. This allows us to estimate the deuterium fractionation of H$_2$CO in the disk: [HDCO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1-0.3$ and [D$_2$CO]/[H$_2$CO]$\sim0.1$. Interestingly, while HDCO follows the H$_2$CO distribution in the disk and in the streamer, the distribution of D$_2$CO is highly asymmetric, with a peak of the emission (and [D]/[H] ratio) in the SE disk side, where the streamer crashes onto the disk. In addition, D$_2$CO is detected in two spots along the blue- and red-shifted outflow. This suggests that: (i) in the disk, HDCO formation is dominated by gas-phase reactions similarly to H$_2$CO, while (ii) D$_2$CO was mainly formed on the grain mantles during the prestellar phase and/or in the disk itself, and is at present released in the gas-phase in the shocks driven by the streamer and the outflow. Although the sequential tsunami scenario detection framework was validated in our previous work, several tasks remain to be resolved from a practical point of view. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the previous tsunami scenario detection framework using a diverse database consisting of complex fault rupture patterns with heterogeneous slip distributions. Specifically, we compare the effectiveness of scenario superposition to that of the previous most likely scenario detection method. Additionally, how the length of the observation time window influences the accuracy of both methods is analyzed. We utilize an existing database comprising 1771 tsunami scenarios targeting the city Westport (WA, U.S.), which includes synthetic wave height records and inundation distributions as the result of fault rupture in the Cascadia subduction zone. The heterogeneous patterns of slips used in the database increase the diversity of the scenarios and thus make it a proper database for evaluating the performance of scenario superposition. To assess the performance, we consider various observation time windows shorter than 15 minutes and divide the database into five testing and learning sets. The evaluation accuracy of the maximum offshore wave, inundation depth, and its distribution is analyzed to examine the advantages of the scenario superposition method over the previous method. The covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES) is a stochastic search algorithm using a multivariate normal distribution for continuous black-box optimization. In addition to strong empirical results, part of the CMA-ES can be described by a stochastic natural gradient method and can be derived from information geometric optimization (IGO) framework. However, there are some components of the CMA-ES, such as the rank-one update, for which the theoretical understanding is limited. While the rank-one update makes the covariance matrix to increase the likelihood of generating a solution in the direction of the evolution path, this idea has been difficult to formulate and interpret as a natural gradient method unlike the rank-$\mu$ update. In this work, we provide a new interpretation of the rank-one update in the CMA-ES from the perspective of the natural gradient with prior distribution. First, we propose maximum a posteriori IGO (MAP-IGO), which is the IGO framework extended to incorporate a prior distribution. Then, we derive the rank-one update from the MAP-IGO by setting the prior distribution based on the idea that the promising mean vector should exist in the direction of the evolution path. Moreover, the newly derived rank-one update is extensible, where an additional term appears in the update for the mean vector. High electric fields can significantly alter catalytic environments and the resultant chemical processes. Such fields arise naturally in biological systems but can also be artificially induced through localized excitations at nanoscale. Recently, strong field excitation of dielectric nanoparticles has emerged as an avenue for studying catalysis in highly ionized environments producing extreme electric fields. While the dynamics of surface ion emission driven by ultrafast laser ionization has been heavily explored, understanding the molecular dynamics leading to fragmentation has remained elusive. To address this, we employed a multiscale approach utilizing non-adiabatic quantum molecular dynamics (NAQMD) simulations on hydrogenated silica surfaces in both bare and wetted environments under field conditions mimicking those of an ionized nanoparticle. Our findings indicate that hole localization drives fragmentation dynamics, leading to surface silanol dissociation within 50 fs and charge transfer-induced water splitting in wetted environments within 150 fs. Further insight into such ultrafast mechanisms is critical for advancement of catalysis on the surface of charged nanosystems.

Recent experiments in pentalayer rhombohedral graphene moir\'e superlattice have observed the quantum anomalous Hall effect at the moir\'e filling factor $\nu=1$ and various fractions. These effects result from a flat Chern band induced by electron-electron interactions. In this Letter, we show that the many-body effects at $\nu=2$ give rise to the quantum spin Hall and quantum valley Hall states, even without spin-orbit couplings or valley-dependent potentials, in addition to the quantum anomalous Hall state. These three topological states can be selectively induced by applying and tilting a magnetic field. Furthermore, we demonstrate that at $\nu=3$ and $4$, a combination of the Wigner-like crystal state and topological states can be the ground state. Consequently, the relation between states at the filling factor $\nu$ and its particle-hole counterpart $4-\nu$ breaks down, which contrasts with the conventional quantum Hall effect in graphene., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

We investigate collective excitations in magnetic topological insulators (TIs) and their impact on particle axion detection. In the three-dimensional TI model with the Hubbard term, the effective action of magnons and amplitude modes is formulated by dynamical susceptibility under the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states. One of the amplitude modes is identified as ``axionic'' quasi-particle and its effective coupling to the electromagnetic fields turns out to be enhanced by about four orders of magnitude larger than the previous estimate, which may drastically change the sensitivity of the particle axion search using ``axion'' in magnetic TIs., Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures

Efficiently exciting and controlling phonons in diamond nanoresonators represents a fundamental challenge for quantum applications. Here, we theoretically demonstrate the possibility to excite mechanical modes within a double-hybrid-cavity (DHC), formed by adjoining to a diamond cavity a second cavity, made of aluminum nitride. The latter is piezoelectric and serves as a microwave-to-phonon transducer, activating mechanical modes in the entire DHC. We show the process to match the cavities phononic properties, making them work coordinately in the DHC and obtaining a well confined mode. In the diamond part of the cavity, this mode replicates the fundamental mode of the individual diamond cavity, showing that the piezoelectric transducer doesn't alter the diamond individual fundamental mode. In the piezoelectric part, the strong confinement of stress and electric field results in a high piezoelectric coupling rate, demonstrating the effectiveness of a phononic cavity as a transducer. The study is contextualized in the framework of a quantum networking application, where the DHC serves as a spin qubit, exploiting the spin-mechanical coupling within diamond color centers., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

The low-energy nuclear structure and two-neutrino double-$\beta$ ($2\nu\beta\beta$) decay are studied within the interacting boson model (IBM) that is based on the nuclear energy density functional (EDF). The IBM Hamiltonian describing the initial and final even-even nuclei, and the interacting boson fermion-fermion Hamiltonian producing the intermediate states of the neighboring odd-odd nuclei are determined by the microscopic inputs provided by the self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) calculations employing a relativistic EDF and a separable pairing force. Sensitivities of the low-lying structure and $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay properties to the pairing strength are specifically analyzed. It is shown that the SCMF calculations with decreased and increased pairing strengths lead to quadrupole-quadrupole interaction strengths in the IBM that are, respectively, significantly enhanced and reduced in magnitude. When the increased pairing is adopted, in particular, the energy levels of the excited $0^+$ states are lowered, and the predicted $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) increase in magnitude systematically. The mapped IBM employing the increased pairing force generates effective NMEs and half-lives that are in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data for the $^{76}$Ge$\to^{76}$Se, $^{82}$Se$\to^{82}$Kr, and $^{100}$Mo$\to^{100}$Ru decays in particular, whereas the calculation with the standard pairing strength is adequate to provide an overall good description of the effective NMEs in agreement with data., Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures, 8 tables

Recent high-resolution and sensitivity ALMA observations have unveiled the carbon isotope ratios ($^{12}$C/$^{13}$C) of Complex Organic Molecules (COMs) in a low-mass protostellar source. To understand the $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios of COMs, we investigated the carbon isotope fractionation of COMs from prestellar cores to protostellar cores with a gas-grain chemical network model. We confirmed that the $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios of small molecules are bimodal in the prestellar phase: CO and species formed from CO (e.g., CH$_{3}$OH) are slightly enriched in $^{13}$C compared to the local ISM (by $\sim$ 10 $\%$), while those from C and C$^{+}$ are depleted in $^{13}$C owing to isotope exchange reactions. COMs are mainly formed on the grain surface and in the hot gas ($>$ 100 K) in the protostellar phase. The $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios of COMs depend on which molecules the COMs are formed from. In our base model, some COMs in the hot gas are depleted in $^{13}$C compared to the observations. Thus, We additionally incorporate reactions between gaseous atomic C and H$_{2}$O ice or CO ice on the grain surface to form H$_2$CO ice or \ce{C2O} ice, as suggested by recent laboratory studies. The direct C-atom addition reactions open pathways to form \ce{^13C}-enriched COMs from atomic C and CO ice. We find that these direct C-atom addition reactions mitigate $^{13}$C-depletion of COMs, and the model with the direct C-atom addition reactions better reproduces the observations than our base model. We also discuss the impact of the cosmic ray ionization rate on the $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratio of COMs.

We discuss neutrino sector in models with two Higgs doublet and one singlet scalar fields under local $U(1)_{L_\alpha- L_\beta}$ symmetry. A neutrino mass matrix is formulated for these models where the matrix is generated via type-I seesaw mechanism introducing right-handed neutrinos. The neutrino mass matrix has more degrees of freedom compared to minimal scenarios which have only one new scalar field, but its structure is still restricted by the symmetry. Then it is find that sum of neutrino mass can be lower than minimal scenarios and it is easier to satisfy observed constraints. In addition, we can fit neutrino data for $U(1)_{L_e - L_{\mu(\tau)}}$ cases which are disfavored in minimal models. The current article presents an extension of the classical scotogenic neutrino mass paradigm, where the three issues in particle physics: dark matter, smallness of neutrino mass, and stability of the proton are interconnected. The scenario encompasses the neutrino mass as well as the proton decay as a consequence of an existence of the dark matter. The study successfully achieves the correlation between the naturally small neutrino masses and naturally long proton lifetime in the present paradigm. Furthermore, all relevant cosmological, collider, and flavor physics constraints are incorporated in the detailed analysis. The scotogenic fermionic dark matter with the mass in the range from $100$ GeV to $10$ TeV successfully satisfies all relevant constraints. The valid range of $2.51\times 10^{-5} < \lambda < 2\times 10^{-3}$ is obtained for the 2HDM $\lambda$ coupling. We discuss degenerate vector dark matter and dark photon that are induced from hidden $SU(2)_H$ gauge sector where it is spontaneously broken by vacuum expectation value of $SU(2)_H$ doublet. Kinetic mixing between $SU(2)_H$ and $U(1)_Y$ gauge fields can be generated by introducing dimension six operator realizing dark photon interactions. In estimating relic density we focus on the process in which dark matter annihilates into dark photons, and search for the region of dark matter mass and gauge coupling realizing observed relic density. We then discuss constraints from dark photon physics, thermalization of dark sector and direct detection of dark matter. It is then found that constraints from direct detection experiments give us the strongest upper limits on the dark photon interactions., Comment: 14 pages,2 figures

Black hole complementarity posits that the interior of a black hole is not independent from its Hawking radiation. This leads to an apparent violation of causality: the interior can be acausally affected by operators acting solely on the radiation. We argue that this perspective is misleading and that the black hole interior must be viewed as existing in the causal past of the Hawking radiation, despite the fact that they are spacelike separated in the semiclassical description. Consequently, no operation on the Hawking radiation -- no matter how complex -- can affect the experience of an infalling observer. The black hole interior and the radiation only appear spacelike separated in the semiclassical description because an infalling observer's ability to access complex information is limited; the chaotic dynamics on the horizon, as viewed from the exterior, then converts any effect caused by such an observer to information in the Hawking radiation which cannot be accessed at the semiclassical level. We arrive at the picture described above by considering a unitary exterior description in which the flow of information is strictly causal, which we extend to apply throughout the entire history of black hole evolution, including its formation. This description uses the stretched event horizon as an inner edge of spacetime, on which the information inside is holographically encoded. We argue that the global spacetime picture arises from coarse-graining over black hole microstates, and discuss its relationship with the exterior description., Comment: 37 pages, 12 figures

We study a relic density of the flavino dark matter in modified Altarelli and Feruglio $A_4$ model which is respecting the $SU(2)_L\times A_4\times Z_3\times U(1)_R$ symmetry. We calculate the Lagrangian from the superpotential in the model. In estimating relic density, we consider the relevant interactions from the Lagrangian that realize the vacuum expectation value alignments and charged lepton masses where we assume that the supersymmetry breaking effects are small for flavon sector. As a result, we find the degenerate masses between the lightest ``flavon'' and ``flavino'', and only two parameters in the potential determines the relic density. Then allowed parameter space of these parameters are estimated from relic density calculation taking a constraint from lepton flavor violation into account. The exploration of outflows in protobinary systems presents a challenging yet crucial endeavour, offering valuable insights into the dynamic interplay between protostars and their evolution. In this study, we examine the morphology and dynamics of jets and outflows within the IRAS\,4A protobinary system. This analysis is based on ALMA observations of SiO(5--4), H$_2$CO(3$_{0,3}$--2$_{0,3}$), and HDCO(4$_{1,4}$--3$_{1,3}$) with a spatial resolution of $\sim$150\,au. Leveraging an astrochemical approach involving the use of diverse tracers beyond traditional ones has enabled the identification of novel features and a comprehensive understanding of the broader outflow dynamics. Our analysis reveals the presence of two jets in the redshifted emission, emanating from IRAS\,4A1 and IRAS\,4A2, respectively. Furthermore, we identify four distinct outflows in the region for the first time, with each protostar, 4A1 and 4A2, contributing to two of them. We characterise the morphology and orientation of each outflow, challenging previous suggestions of bends in their trajectories. The outflow cavities of IRAS\,4A1 exhibit extensions of 10$''$ and 13$''$ with position angles (PA) of 0$^{\circ}$ and -12$^{\circ}$, respectively, while those of IRAS\,4A2 are more extended, spanning 18$''$ and 25$''$ with PAs of 29$^{\circ}$ and 26$^{\circ}$. We propose that the misalignment of the cavities is due to a jet precession in each protostar, a notion supported by the observation that the more extended cavities of the same source exhibit lower velocities, indicating they may stem from older ejection events.

External pressure and associated changes in lattice structures are key to realizing exotic quantum phases such as high-$T_{\rm c}$ superconductivity. While applying external pressure is a standard method to induce novel lattice structures, its impact on organic molecular crystals has been less explored. Here we report a unique structural phase transition in (DMET-TTF)$_2$AuBr$_2$ under pressure. By combining advanced high-pressure techniques and $ab$ $initio$ calculations, we elucidate that (DMET-TTF)$_2$AuBr$_2$ undergoes a transition from a quasi-one-dimensional lattice to a nearly perfect rectangular lattice at 0.9 GPa. This transition leads to the realization of an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator with $T_{\rm N}=66$ K, the highest $T_{\rm N}$ in low-dimensional molecular crystal solids to date. Upon increasing the pressure, the antiferromagnetic ordering is suppressed, and a superconducting phase with $T_{\rm c}=4.8$ K emerges around 6 GPa. Our study reveals the significant impact of external pressure on lattice structures of organic molecular crystals and highlights the intricate relationship between geometrical frustration and superconductivity. In several real-world applications in medical and control engineering, there are unsafe solutions whose evaluations involve inherent risk. This optimization setting is known as safe optimization and formulated as a specialized type of constrained optimization problem with constraints for safety functions. Safe optimization requires performing efficient optimization without evaluating unsafe solutions. A few studies have proposed the optimization methods for safe optimization based on Bayesian optimization and the evolutionary algorithm. However, Bayesian optimization-based methods often struggle to achieve superior solutions, and the evolutionary algorithm-based method fails to effectively reduce unsafe evaluations. This study focuses on CMA-ES as an efficient evolutionary algorithm and proposes an optimization method termed safe CMA-ES. The safe CMA-ES is designed to achieve both safety and efficiency in safe optimization. The safe CMA-ES estimates the Lipschitz constants of safety functions transformed with the distribution parameters using the maximum norm of the gradient in Gaussian process regression. Subsequently, the safe CMA-ES projects the samples to the nearest point in the safe region constructed with the estimated Lipschitz constants. The numerical simulation using the benchmark functions shows that the safe CMA-ES successfully performs optimization, suppressing the unsafe evaluations, while the existing methods struggle to significantly reduce the unsafe evaluations., Comment: This paper has been accepted as a full paper at GECCO2024

Black-box optimization problems often require simultaneously optimizing different types of variables, such as continuous, integer, and categorical variables. Unlike integer variables, categorical variables do not necessarily have a meaningful order, and the discretization approach of continuous variables does not work well. Although several Bayesian optimization methods can deal with mixed-category black-box optimization (MC-BBO), they suffer from a lack of scalability to high-dimensional problems and internal computational cost. This paper proposes CatCMA, a stochastic optimization method for MC-BBO problems, which employs the joint probability distribution of multivariate Gaussian and categorical distributions as the search distribution. CatCMA updates the parameters of the joint probability distribution in the natural gradient direction. CatCMA also incorporates the acceleration techniques used in the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES) and the stochastic natural gradient method, such as step-size adaptation and learning rate adaptation. In addition, we restrict the ranges of the categorical distribution parameters by margin to prevent premature convergence and analytically derive a promising margin setting. Photon number-resolving detectors (PNRDs) are the ultimate optical sensors. Superconducting-nanostrip photon detectors (SNSPDs), traditionally known as ON-OFF detectors, have recently been found to have photon number resolving capability without multiplexing. This discovery positions them to become true PNRDs. However, their practical use is limited by the need to precisely detect tiny signal differences with low signal-to-noise ratios within sub-nanosecond time frames. We overcome this challenge using optical sampling with a dual-output Mach Zehnder modulator (DO-MZM) and ultra-short pulsed laser. By adjusting the DO-MZM's bias voltage to nearly balance the outputs, this method enables sensitive detection of picosecond-order signal differences, achieving a temporal resolution of 1.9 ps and facilitating real-time photon number resolution. We applied this method to produce various non-classical quantum states, enhancing their non-classicality through photon number resolution. Multi-photon Fock states have diverse applications such as optical quantum information processing. For the implementation of quantum information processing, it is desirable that Fock states be generated within the telecommunication wavelength band, particularly in the C-band (1530-1565 nm). This is because mature optical communication technologies can be leveraged for the transmission, manipulation, and detection. Additionally, to achieve high-speed quantum information processing, it is desirable for Fock states to be generated in short optical pulses, as this allows embedding lots of information in the time domain. In this paper, we report the first generation of picosecond pulsed multi-photon Fock states (single-photon and two-photon states) in the C-band with Wigner negativities, which are verified by pulsed homodyne tomography. In our experimental setup, we utilize a single-pixel superconducting nanostrip photon-number-resolving detector (SNSPD), which is expected to facilitate the high-rate generation of various quantum states. This capability stems from the high temporal resolution of SNSPDs (50 ps in our case) allowing us to increase the repetition frequency of pulsed light from the conventional MHz range to the GHz range, although in this experiment the repetition frequency is limited to 10 MHz due to the bandwidth of the homodyne detector. Consequently, our experimental setup is anticipated to serve as a prototype of a high-speed optical quantum state generator for ultrafast quantum information processing at telecommunication wavelength., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We propose hardware-oriented models of intrinsic plasticity (IP) and synaptic plasticity (SP) for spiking randomly connected recursive neural network (RNN). Although the potential of RNNs for temporal data processing has been demonstrated, randomness of the network architecture often causes performance degradation. Self-organization mechanism using IP and SP can mitigate the degradation, therefore, we compile these functions in a spiking neuronal model. To implement the function of IP, a variable firing threshold is introduced to each excitatory neuron in the RNN that changes stepwise in accordance with its activity. We also define other thresholds for SP that synchronize with the firing threshold, which determine the direction of stepwise synaptic update that is executed on receiving a pre-synaptic spike. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our model through simulations of temporal data learning and anomaly detection with a spiking RNN using publicly available electrocardiograms. Considering hardware implementation, we employ discretized thresholds and synaptic weights and show that these parameters can be reduced to binary if the RNN architecture is appropriately designed. There has been a growing interest in off-policy evaluation in the literature such as recommender systems and personalized medicine. We have so far seen significant progress in developing estimators aimed at accurately estimating the effectiveness of counterfactual policies based on biased logged data. However, there are many cases where those estimators are used not only to evaluate the value of decision making policies but also to search for the best hyperparameters from a large candidate space. This work explores the latter hyperparameter optimization (HPO) task for off-policy learning. We empirically show that naively applying an unbiased estimator of the generalization performance as a surrogate objective in HPO can cause an unexpected failure, merely pursuing hyperparameters whose generalization performance is greatly overestimated. We then propose simple and computationally efficient corrections to the typical HPO procedure to deal with the aforementioned issues simultaneously. We investigate parameter dependence of the calculated $\beta$-decay properties, as well as low-lying states for the neutron-rich Zr isotopes within the neutron-proton interacting boson model (IBM-2) and interacting boson-fermion-fermion model (IBFFM-2). It is shown that the calculated $\log_{10}ft$ values for the transitions of the $0^+_1$ ground states of the parent even-even nuclei $^{96-102}$Zr into the $1^+_1$ states of the daughter odd-odd nuclei $^{96-102}$Nb consistently exhibit a strong dependence on those parameters associated with the quadrupole-quadrupole boson interaction, and with the residual interaction between an unpaired neutron and an unpaired proton in the IBFFM-2 Hamiltonian for the odd-odd Nb nuclei. By the reduction in magnitude of the quadrupole-quadrupole interaction strength by approximately a factor of 2, the calculated $\log_{10}ft$ values for the Zr$(0^+_1)\to$Nb$(1^+_1)$ transitions increase and agree with the experimental values. This points to a significant improvement over the previous study performed in the same mass region, that consists of the mapping from a relativistic energy density functional calculation onto the IBM-2 Hamiltonian., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables

In the past decade, ALMA observations of protoplanetary disks revealed various substructures including gaps and rings. Their origin may be probed through statistical studies on the physical properties of the substructures. We present the analyses of archival ALMA Band 6 continuum data of 43 disks (39 Class II and 4 Herbig Ae) in the Taurus-Auriga region. We employ a novel 2D super-resolution imaging technique based on sparse modeling to obtain images with high fidelity and spatial resolution. As a result, we have obtained images with spatial resolutions comparable to a few au ($0''.02 - 0''.1$), which is two to three times better than conventional CLEAN methods. All dust disks are spatially resolved, with the radii ranging from 8 to 238 au with a median radius of 45 au. Half of the disks harbor clear gap structures, whose radial locations show a bimodal distribution with peaks at $\lesssim20$ au and $\gtrsim30$ au. We also see structures indicating weak gaps at all the radii in the disk. We find that the widths of these gaps increase with their depths, which is consistent with the model of planet-disk interactions. The inferred planet mass-orbital radius distribution indicates that the planet distribution is analogous to our Solar System. Two typical fixed-length random number generation problems in information theory are considered for general sources. One is the source resolvability problem and the other is the intrinsic randomness problem. In each of these problems, the optimum achievable rate with respect to the given approximation measure is one of our main concerns and has been characterized using two different information quantities: the information spectrum and the smooth R\'enyi entropy. Recently, optimum achievable rates with respect to $f$-divergences have been characterized using the information spectrum quantity. The $f$-divergence is a general non-negative measure between two probability distributions on the basis of a convex function $f$. The class of f-divergences includes several important measures such as the variational distance, the KL divergence, the Hellinger distance and so on. Hence, it is meaningful to consider the random number generation problems with respect to $f$-divergences. However, optimum achievable rates with respect to $f$-divergences using the smooth R\'enyi entropy have not been clarified yet in both of two problems. In this paper we try to analyze the optimum achievable rates using the smooth R\'enyi entropy and to extend the class of $f$-divergence. To do so, we first derive general formulas of the first-order optimum achievable rates with respect to $f$-divergences in both problems under the same conditions as imposed by previous studies. Next, we relax the conditions on $f$-divergence and generalize the obtained general formulas. Then, we particularize our general formulas to several specified functions $f$. As a result, we reveal that it is easy to derive optimum achievable rates for several important measures from our general formulas. Furthermore, a kind of duality between the resolvability and the intrinsic randomness is revealed in terms of the smooth R\'enyi entropy.

Evolution and coexistence of shape and the related collective states of even-even Te isotopes are investigated within the quadrupole collective model that is based on the nuclear density functional theory. By means of the constrained self-consistent mean-field calculations performed within the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov method with a choice of an energy density functional and a pairing force, parameters of the triaxial quadrupole collective Hamiltonian are completely determines. The collective model produces for the near mid-shell nuclei, e.g., $^{116}$Te and $^{118}$Te, low-energy and low-spin excited states, including the $0^+_2$ state, that can be interpreted as the intruder states associated with the strongly deformed prolate minimum in the potential energy surface, along with the $0^+_1$ ground state that is attributed to the normal state based on a weakly oblate deformed global minimum. The collective model calculation suggests the lowering of the $0^+_2$ energy level toward neutron mid-shell, as observed experimentally. The sensitivity of the mean-field and spectroscopic results to the choice of the pairing strength is also analyzed, and it is shown that by increasing the pairing strength description of the low-lying states of the near mid-shell nuclei is improved., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, 1 table

Carbon isotope fractionation of CO has been reported in the disk around TW Hya,where elemental carbon is more abundant than elemental oxygen ([C/O]$_{\rm elem}$> 1). We investigated the effects of the [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratio on carbon fractionation using astrochemical models that incorporate isotope-selective photodissociation and isotope-exchange reactions. The $^{12}$CO/$^{13}$CO ratio could be lower than the elemental carbon isotope ratio due to isotope exchange reactions when the [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratio exceeds unity. The observed $^{12}$CO/$^{13}$CO and H$^{12}$CN/H$^{13}$CN ratios around TW Hya could be reproduced when the [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratio is 2~5. In the vicinity of the lower boundary of the warm molecular layer, the formation of ices leads to the gas phase [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratio approaching unity, irrespective of the total (gas + ice) [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratio. This phenomenon reduces the variation in the $^{12}$CO/$^{13}$CO ratio across different [C/O]$_{\rm elem}$ ratios., Comment: Accepted in ApJ

This paper proposes a level set-based method for optimizing shell structures with large design changes in shape and topology. Conventional shell optimization methods, whether parametric or nonparametric, often only allow limited design changes in shape. In the proposed method, the shell structure is defined as the isosurface of a level set function. The level set function is iteratively updated based on the shape sensitivity on the surface mesh. Therefore, the proposed method can represent an arbitrary manifold surface while dealing with topological changes, for example, from a spherical surface to a toroidal surface. We applied the proposed method to the mean compliance minimization problems of 3D shell structural designs for dome, bending plate and cantilever beam examples to demonstrate its efficacy of the proposed method., Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures

The origin of the chemical diversity observed around low-mass protostars probably resides in the earliest history of these systems. We aim to investigate the impact of protostellar feedback on the chemistry and grain growth in the circumstellar medium of multiple stellar systems. In the context of the ALMA Large Program FAUST, we present high-resolution (50 au) observations of CH$_3$OH, H$_2$CO, and SiO and continuum emission at 1.3 mm and 3 mm towards the Corona Australis star cluster. Methanol emission reveals an arc-like structure at $\sim$1800 au from the protostellar system IRS7B along the direction perpendicular to the major axis of the disc. The arc is located at the edge of two elongated continuum structures that define a cone emerging from IRS7B. The region inside the cone is probed by H$_2$CO, while the eastern wall of the arc shows bright emission in SiO, a typical shock tracer. Taking into account the association with a previously detected radio jet imaged with JVLA at 6 cm, the molecular arc reveals for the first time a bow shock driven by IRS7B and a two-sided dust cavity opened by the mass-loss process. For each cavity wall, we derive an average H$_2$ column density of $\sim$7$\times$10$^{21}$ cm$^{-2}$, a mass of $\sim$9$\times$10$^{-3}$ M$_\odot$, and a lower limit on the dust spectral index of $1.4$. These observations provide the first evidence of a shock and a conical dust cavity opened by the jet driven by IRS7B, with important implications for the chemical enrichment and grain growth in the envelope of Solar System analogues., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables. A Majorana mass term of singlet fermion is forbidden by the $U(1)$ symmetry and it is generated at one-loop level by introducing relevant particle contents to get loop diagram, inducing inverse seesaw mechanism. The same particle contents also contribute to lepton magnetic(electric) dipole moment and lepton flavor violating decays without chiral suppression. We can then obtain sizable muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment that accommodate with deviation from the standard model prediction. The constraints from lepton flavor violating decays and electron magnetic(electric) dipole moment are also discussed to explore testability of the model., Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures

In this study, we derive the heat flux formula for the Allegro model, one of machine-learning interatomic potentials using the equivariant deep neural network, to calculate lattice thermal conductivity using the homogeneous non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (HNEMD) method based on the Green-Kubo formula. Allegro can construct more advanced atomic descriptors than conventional ones, and can be applied to multicomponent and large-scale systems, providing a significant advantage in estimating the thermal conductivity of anharmonic materials, such as thermoelectric materials. In addition, the spectral heat current (SHC) method, recently developed for the HNEMD framework (HNEMD-SHC), allows the calculation of not only the total thermal conductivity but also its frequency components. The verification of the heat flux and the demonstration of HNEMD-SHC method are performed for the extremely anharmonic low-temperature phase of Ag$_2$Se.
