Abstract

A data-driven method was applied to Au+Au collisions at sNN=200GeV made with the STAR detector at RHIC to isolate pseudorapidity distance δη-dependent and δη-independent correlations by using two- and four-particle azimuthal cumulant measurements. We identified a δη-independent component of the correlation, which is dominated by anisotropic flow and flow fluctuations. It was also found to be independent of η within the measured range of pseudorapidity |η|0.7.

3. Effect of flow fluctuations and nonflow on elliptic flow methods

Abstract

We discuss how the different estimates of elliptic flow are influenced by flow fluctuations and nonflow effects. It is explained why the event-plane method yields estimates between the two-particle correlation methods and the multiparticle correlation methods. It is argued that nonflow effects and fluctuations cannot be disentangled without other assumptions. However, we provide equations where, with reasonable assumptions about fluctuations and nonflow, all measured values of elliptic flow converge to a unique mean v_2,PP elliptic flow in the participant plane and, with a Gaussian assumption on eccentricity fluctuations, can be converted to the mean v_2,RP in the reaction plane. Thus, the 20percent spread in observed elliptic flow measurements from different analysis methods is no longer mysterious.

Abstract

Abstract: The recent study of centrality and transverse momentum ( ) dependence of inclusive charged hardron elliptic anisotropy ( ) at midrapidity ( ) in Au+Au collision at in STAR Beam Energy Scan program is presented. We show that the observed increase of inclusive is mainly due to the average increase with energy. In Au+Au 200 GeV collisions, the triangular anisotropy ( ) measurements highly depend on measurement methods; is strongly dependent on Δη. The difference between two- and four-particle cumulants and for Au+Au and Cu+Cu collision at is used to explore flow fluctuations. Abstract

We describe azimuth structure commonly associated with elliptic and directed flow in the context of 2D angular autocorrelations for the purpose of precise separation of so-called nonflow (mainly minijets) from flow. We extend the Fourier-transform description of azimuth structure to include power spectra and autocorrelations related by the Wiener–Khintchine theorem. We analyze several examples of conventional flow analysis in that context and question the relevance of reaction plane estimation to flow analysis. We introduce the 2D angular autocorrelation with examples from data analysis and describe a simulation exercise which demonstrates precise separation of flow and nonflow using the 2D autocorrelation method. We show that an alternative correlation measure based on Pearson's normalized covariance provides a more intuitive measure of azimuth structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We present STAR measurements of azimuthal anisotropy by means of the two- and four-particle cumulants v2 (v2{; ; 2}; ; and v2{; ; 4}; ; ) for Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at center-of-mass energies √sNN=62.4 and 200 GeV. The difference between v2{; ; 2}; ; 2 and v2{; ; 4}; ; 2 is related to v2 fluctuations (σv2) and nonflow (δ2). We present an upper limit to σv2/v2. Following the assumption that eccentricity fluctuations σɛ dominate v2 fluctuations σv2/v2≈σɛ/ɛ we deduce the nonflow implied for several models of eccentricity fluctuations that would be required for consistency with v2{; ; 2}; ; and v2{; ; 4}; ; . We also present results on the ratio of v2 to eccentricity.
