We present a Chandra study of surface brightness fluctuations in the diffuse intracluster medium of the Perseus Cluster. Our study utilizes deep, archival imaging of the cluster core as well as a new mosaic of 29 short 5 ks observations extending in 8 different directions out to radii of r_500 ~ 2.2r_2500. Under the assumption that the distribution of densities at a given radius is log-normally distributed, two important quantities can be derived from the width of the log-normal density distribution on a given spatial scale: the density bias, which is equal to the square root of the clumping factor C; and the one-component turbulent velocity, v_(k, 1D). We forward-model all contributions to the measured surface brightness, including astrophysical and particle background components, and account for the Poisson nature of the measured signal. Measuring the distribution of surface brightness fluctuations in 1 arcmin^2 regions, spanning the radial range 0.3-2.2 r_2500 (7.8-57.3 arcmin), we find a small to moderate average density bias of around 3% at radii below 1.6r_2500. We also infer an average turbulent velocity at these radii of v_1D, 17 pages, 11 figures. to be published in MNRAS

Both observational and theoretical studies of black-hole activity or active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback have been ongoing since the first indication of supermassive black holes powering quasar activity in the 1960s. Although several crucial astrophysical questions have been answered in the following decades, a number of open problems remain, in particular how AGN feedback operates over nearly eight orders of magnitude - from scales of $\sim 10^{-3}\,{\rm pc}$ to the galaxy-cluster scales of a few hundred kiloparsecs. We present updated cosmological constraints from measurements of the gas mass fractions ($f_{gas}$) of massive, dynamically relaxed galaxy clusters. Our new data set has greater leverage on models of dark energy, thanks to the addition of the Perseus Cluster at low redshifts, two new clusters at redshifts $z>0.97$, and significantly longer observations of four clusters at $0.6, Comment: To be published in MNRAS. The new oxygen-bridged geminal Si/P Frustrated Lewis Pair (FLP) tBu2P-O-Si(C2F5)3 (2) is able to reversibly bind carbon dioxide at ambient temperature. We compared its reactivity towards benzil, but-3-en-2-one, nitriles and phenylacetylene to that of the Al/P FLP tBu2P-O-AlBis2 (Bis = -CH(SiMe3)2) (1). When reacted with benzil, both, 1 and 2, form the 1,2-addition product, but in the Si/P FLP 2, the second carbonyl function additionally binds to the silicon atom. With but-3-en-2-one 2 forms the 1,2-addition product, while 1 binds in 1,4-position. The reaction with acetonitrile yielded an unexpected etheneimine adduct for both systems, while only 1 reacted with tert-butylnitrile. With benzonitrile and acrylonitrile, 2 showed reversible addition to the C≡N bond and 1 forms a stable adduct with benzonitrile. Solely 1 shows reactivity towards phenylacetylene affording a mixture of the CH deprotonation adduct tBu2P(H)-O-AlBis2(CCPh) and the FLP-CºC adduct under ring formation. All compounds were charac-te-rized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, XRD and elemental analysis.

Simulations results ofthe intracluster medium (ICM) in the galaxy cluster indicatethat the gas density distribution in the outskirts becomes increasing inhomogenous (i.e. ‘clumpy’). Ignoring the gas clumping will lead to significant systematic bias in the X-ray measurements of ICM properties, in particular for the outskirts. In the past decades, Chandra have accumulated 2.4 Ms ultra-deep exposure on Abell 133 , out to extremely large radii, more importantly Suzaku providesa similar coverage in the outskirts even beyond R200, making Abell 133 a unique laboratory to study the clumping of ICM. We have performed a joint analysis of Suzaku and Chandra observations towards Abell 133 cluster.We attempted to identify significant clumps based on Chandra images, mask them from Suzaku spectral analysis, and obtainclumping-corrected thermodynamic profiles. We found those identifiedclumpsare mainly background clusters or galaxies, instead of genuine inhomogeneity. The clumping-corrected entropy profilestill flattens inthe outskirts, deviating from the standard power law model.

The circumgalactic medium (CGM) encodes signatures of the galaxy-formation process, including the interaction of galactic outflows driven by stellar and supermassive black hole (SMBH) feedback with the gaseous halo. Moving beyond spherically symmetric radial profiles, we study the \textit{angular} dependence of CGM properties around $z=0$ massive galaxies in the IllustrisTNG simulations. We characterize the angular signal of density, temperature, and metallicity of the CGM as a function of galaxy stellar mass, halo mass, distance, and SMBH mass, via stacking. TNG predicts that the CGM is anisotropic in its thermodynamical properties and chemical content over a large mass range, $M_*\sim10^{10-11.5}M_\odot$. Along the minor axis directions, gas density is diluted, whereas temperature and metallicity are enhanced. These feedback-induced anisotropies in the CGM have a magnitude of $0.1-0.3$ dex, extend out to the halo virial radius, and peak at Milky Way-like masses, $M_*\sim10^{10.8}M_\odot$. In TNG, this mass scale corresponds to the onset of efficient SMBH feedback and the production of strong outflows. By comparing the anisotropic signals predicted by TNG versus other simulations -- Illustris and EAGLE -- we find that each simulation produces distinct signatures and mass dependencies, implying that this phenomenon is sensitive to the underlying physical models. Finally, we explore X-ray emission as an observable of this CGM anistropy, finding that future X-ray observations, including the eROSITA all-sky survey, will be able to detect and characterize this signal, particularly in terms of an angular modulation of the X-ray hardness., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures + Appendix. We analysed the deep archival Chandra observations of the high-temperature galaxy cluster Abell 2319 to investigate the prominent cold front in its core. The main sharp arc of the front shows wiggles, or variations of the radius of the density jump along the arc. At the southern end of the arc is a feature that resembles a Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) eddy, beyond which the sharp front dissolves. These features suggest that KH instabilities develop at the front. Under this assumption, we can place an upper limit on the ICM viscosity that is several times below the isotropic Spitzer value. Other features include a split of the cold front at its northern edge, which may be another KH eddy. There is a small pocket of hot, less-dense gas inside the cold front, which may indicate a `hole' in the front's magnetic insulation layer that lets the heat from the outer gas to penetrate inside the front. Finally, a large concave brightness feature southwest of the cluster core can be caused by the gasdynamic instabilities. We speculate that it can also be an inner boundary of a giant AGN bubble, similar to that in Ophiuchus. If the latter interpretation is supported by better radio data, this could be a remnant of another extremely powerful AGN outburst., Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Galaxy clusters appear as extended sources in XMM-Newton images, but not all extended sources are clusters. So, their proper classification requires visual inspection with optical images, which is a slow process with biases that are almost impossible to model. We tackle this problem with a novel approach, using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), a state-of-the-art image classification tool, for automatic classification of galaxy cluster candidates. We train the networks on combined XMM-Newton X-ray observations with their optical counterparts from the all-sky Digitized Sky Survey. Our data set originates from the X-CLASS survey sample of galaxy cluster candidates, selected by a specially developed pipeline, the XAmin, tailored for extended source detection and characterisation. Our data set contains 1 707 galaxy cluster candidates classified by experts. Additionally, we create an official Zooniverse citizen science project, The Hunt for Galaxy Clusters, to probe whether citizen volunteers could help in a challenging task of galaxy cluster visual confirmation. The project contained 1 600 galaxy cluster candidates in total of which 404 overlap with the expert's sample. The networks were trained on expert and Zooniverse data separately. The CNN test sample contains 85 spectroscopically confirmed clusters and 85 non-clusters that appear in both data sets. Our custom network achieved the best performance in the binary classification of clusters and non-clusters, acquiring accuracy of 90 %, averaged after 10 runs. The results of using CNNs on combined X-ray and optical data for galaxy cluster candidate classification are encouraging and there is a lot of potential for future usage and improvements., 14 pages, 10 tables, 16 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Many massive early-type galaxies host central radio sources and hot X-ray atmospheres indicating the presence of radio-mechanical active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback. The duty cycle and detailed physics of the radio-mode AGN feedback is still a matter of debate. To address these questions, we present 1–2 GHz Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array radio observations of a sample of the 42 nearest optically and X-ray brightest early-type galaxies. We detect radio emission in 41/42 galaxies. However, the galaxy without a radio source, NGC 499, has recently been detected at lower frequencies by the Low-Frequency Array. Furthermore, 27/42 galaxies in our sample host extended radio structures and 34/42 sources show environmental interactions in the form of X-ray cavities. We find a significant correlation between the radio flux density and the largest linear size of the radio emission and between the radio power and the luminosity of the central X-ray point source. The central radio spectral indices of the galaxies span a wide range of values, with the majority of the systems having steep spectra and the rest flat spectra. These results are consistent with AGN activity, where the central radio sources are mostly switched on, thus the duty cycle is very high. Seven out of 14 galaxies with pointlike radio emission (Fanaroff–Riley Class 0; FR 0) also show X-ray cavities indicating that, despite the lack of extended radio structures at 1–2 GHz, these AGNs do launch jets capable of inflating lobes and cavities.

We analyze radio continuum emission of early-type galaxies with dynamical measurements of central super-massive black hole (SMBH) masses, and well-characterized large-scale environments, but regardless on the exact level of the nuclear activity. The 1.4 GHz radio fluxes collected with $\sim$arcmin resolution for 62 nearby targets (distances $\lesssim$ 153 Mpc), correspond to low and very low monochromatic luminosities $L_{\rm r} \sim 10^{35} - 10^{41}$ erg s$^{-1}$. We quantify possible correlations between the radio properties with the main parameters of supermassive black holes, host galaxies, and hot gaseous halos, finding a general bimodality in the radio luminosity distribution, with the borderline between ``radio-bright'' and ``radio-dim'' populations $\log L_{\rm r} / L_{\rm Edd} \simeq -8.5$. We analyze the far-infrared data for the targets, finding that all radio-bright sources, and over a half of radio-dim ones, are over-luminous in radio with respect to the far-infrared--radio correlation. High-resolution radio maps reveal that the overwhelming majority of radio-dim sources are unresolved on arcsecond scale, while the bulk of radio-bright sources display extended jets and lobes of low- and intermediate-power radio galaxies; those jets dominate radio emission of radio-bright objects. Regarding the origin of the radio emission of radio-dim sources, we discuss the two main possibilities. One is the ADAF model, in which the radio and the nuclear X-ray radiative outputs at very low accretion rates, are both dominated by unresolved jets. The other possibility is that the radio-dim sources, unlike the radio-bright ones, are characterized by low values of SMBH spins, so that their radio emission is not related to the jets, but instead is due to a combination of starforming processes and past nuclear outbursts., Comment: revised version accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal

Die vorliegende Forschungsarbeit besch��ftigt sich mit der Auswirkung des Rotorlagegeber-Systems, als Schnittstelle zwischen den Einzelkomponenten, auf das E-Motor-System. Diese Sensorik ist in aktuellen Drehstromantriebssystemen integriert und stellt der Leistungselektronik die Information zur Rotorlage bereit. Zun��chst werden verschiedene physikalische Messprinzipien vorgestellt. Anschlie��end wird anhand der Systemanforderungen ein Rotorlagegeber ausgew��hlt. Im Betrieb eines E-Motor-Systems treten Winkelfehler auf, die vom Bauraum, der Montage und vom Gebersystem selbst beeinflusst werden. Um auftretende Fehlerquellen zu identifizieren, wird ein Modell f��r den Rotorlagegeber vorgestellt. Dieses wird zun��chst analytisch aufgebaut und um ein Permeanz-Kapazit��ts-Modell erweitert. Durch eine Finite-Elemente Simulation k��nnen die vorgestellten Modelle nachgesch��rft und sowohl mechanische als auch elektrische Fehlerf��lle simuliert werden. Die Ergebnisse dieser Simulation werden durch Messungen an einem Komponentenpr��fstand validiert. Anschlie��end wird die Signalerfassung, Vorfilterung und Verarbeitung beleuchtet sowie die Auswirkungen auf den Winkelfehler untersucht. Nach der Identifikation von Einflussgr����en wird der Umgang mit Signalfehlern und deren Kompensation aufgezeigt. Der Einfluss des daraus resultierenden Drehmomentfehlers auf das E-Motor-System wird in einem abschlie��enden Kapitel dargestellt. Hierf��r werden ein G��tekriterium formuliert und die Ergebnisse der Systemsimulation vorgestellt.

We present a near-UV space telescope on a ~70kg micro-satellite with a moderately fast repointing capability and a near real-time alert communication system that has been proposed in response to a call for an ambitious Czech national mission. The mission, which has recently been approved for Phase 0, A, and B1 study shall measure the brightness evolution of kilonovae, resulting from mergers of neutron stars in the near-UV band and thus it shall distinguish between different explosion scenarios. Between the observations of transient sources, the satellite shall perform observations of other targets of interest, a large part of which will be chosen in open competition., Comment: SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation

We present new Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA, 1.5 GHz) radio data for the giant elliptical galaxy IC 4296, supported by archival radio, X-ray (Chandra, XMM-Newton) and optical (SOAR, HST) observations. The galaxy hosts powerful radio jets piercing through the inner hot X-ray emitting atmosphere, depositing most of the energy into the ambient intra-cluster medium (ICM). Whereas the radio surface brightness of the A configuration image is consistent with a Fanaroff-Riley Class I (FR I) system, the D configuration image shows two bright, relative to the central region, large (~160 kpc diameter), well-defined lobes, previously reported by Killeen et al., at a projected distance r~>230 kpc. The XMM-Newton image reveals an X-ray cavity associated with one of the radio lobes. The total enthalpy of the radio lobes is ~7x10^59 erg and the mechanical power output of the jets is ~10^44 erg/s. The jets are mildly curved and possibly re-brightened by the relative motion of the galaxy and the ICM. The lobes display sharp edges, suggesting the presence of bow shocks, which would indicate that they are expanding supersonically. The central entropy and cooling time of the X-ray gas are unusually low and the nucleus hosts a warm H\alpha+[NII] nebula and a cold molecular CO disk. Because most of the energy of the jets is deposited far from the nucleus, the atmosphere of the galaxy continues to cool, apparently feeding the central supermassive black hole and powering the jet activity., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We are designing a fleet of nanosatellites to perform accurate position determinations of short-duration gamma-ray bursts by measuring arrival time differences. To achieve sufficient photon statistics to measure the arrival times precisely under the severe limitations of size, mass and power consumption, we propose the use of large-area CsI(Tl) scintillators which provide a high light output and the use of a small-sized multipixel photon counters (MPPC), a kind of SiPM, that have low power consumption. We plan to use one of the latest-model MPPCs provided by Hamamatsu Photonics, namely, S13360-6050CS, which has an active area of 6 x 6 mm(2). We have compared the performance of two scintillators of different sizes (150x75x5 mm(3) and 100x75x5 mm(3)); the bigger one is the maximum size that can be mounted on a three-unit satellite, according to CubeSat standards. We have found that the light yield of the bigger scintillator is lower than that of the smaller one, but the difference is only approximately 13%, and each has an energy threshold of similar to 10 keV at 25 degrees C. We have tested one-and two-MPPC readout and confirmed the same energy thresholds. The light yield for the two-MPPC readout is 1.4 times as high as that for the one-MPPC readout. We have also examined the position dependence of the light yield by using radiation from a Am-241 (59.5 keV) source, and confirmed that uniformity was improved, and energy resolution got better by similar to 7% for two-MPPC readout.

In recent years the number of CubeSats (U-class spacecrafts) launched into space has increased exponentially marking the dawn of the nanosatellite technology. In general these satellites have a much smaller mass budget compared to conventional scientific satellites which limits shielding of scientific instruments against direct and indirect radiation in space. In this paper we present a simulation framework to quantify the signal in large field-of-view gamma-ray scintillation detectors of satellites induced by X-ray/gamma-ray transients, by taking into account the response of the detector. Furthermore, we quantify the signal induced by X-ray and particle background sources at a Low-Earth Orbit outside South Atlantic Anomaly and polar regions. Finally, we calculate the signal-to-noise ratio taking into account different energy threshold levels. Our simulation can be used to optimize material composition and predict detectability of various astrophysical sources by CubeSats. We apply the developed simulation to a satellite belonging to a planned CAMELOT CubeSat constellation. This project mainly aims to detect short and long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and as a secondary science objective, to detect soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) and terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs). The simulation includes a detailed computer-aided design (CAD) model of the satellite to take into account the interaction of particles with the material of the satellite as accurately as possible. Results of our simulations predict that CubeSats can complement the large space observatories in high-energy astrophysics for observations of GRBs, SGRs and TGFs. For the detectors planned to be on board of the CAMELOT CubeSats the simulations show that detections with signal-to-noise ratio of at least 9 for median GRB and SGR fluxes are achievable., 86 pages, 30 figures, 8 tables, accepted for publication in Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems

HERMES-TP/SP (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites Technologic and Scientific Pathfinder) is a constellation of six 3U nano-satellites hosting simple but innovative X-ray detectors, characterized by a large energy band and excellent temporal resolution, and thus optimized for the monitoring of Cosmic High Energy transients such as Gamma Ray Bursts and the electromagnetic counterparts of Gravitational Wave Events, and for the determination of their positions. The projects are funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and by the Italian Space Agency, and by the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under Grant Agreement No. 821896. HERMES-TP/SP is an in-orbit demonstration, that should be tested starting from 2022. Previous X-ray studies of the Perseus Cluster, consisting of 85 Suzaku pointings along eight azimuthal directions, revealed a particularly steep decrease in the projected temperature profile near the virial radius (~r200) towards the northwest (NW). To further explore this shock candidate, another 4 Suzaku observations on the NW edge of the Perseus Cluster have been obtained. These deeper data were designed to provide the best possible control of systematic uncertainties in the spectral analysis. Using the combined Suzaku observations, we have carefully investigated this interesting region by analyzing the spectra of various annuli and extracting projected thermodynamic profiles. We find that the projected temperature profile shows a break near r200, indicating a shock with M = 1.9+-0.3. Corresponding discontinuities are also found in the projected emission measure and the density profiles at the same location. This evidence of a shock front so far away from the cluster center is unprecedented, and may provide a first insight into the properties of large-scale virial shocks which shape the process of galaxy cluster growth., 12 pages, 6 figures, accepted by A&A

The timing-based localization, which utilize the triangulation principle with the different arrival time of gamma-ray photons, with a fleet of Cubesats is a unique and powerful solution for the future all-sky gamma-ray observation, which is a key for identification of the electromagnetic counterpart of the gravitational wave sources. The Cubesats Applied for MEasuring and Localising Transients (CAMELOT) mission is now being promoted by the Hungarian and Japanese collaboration with a basic concept of the nine Cubesats constellations in low earth orbit. The simulation framework for estimation of the localization capability has been developed including orbital parameters, an algorithm to estimate the expected observed profile of gamma-ray photons, finding the peak of the cross-correlation function, and a statistical method to find a best-fit position and its uncertainty. It is revealed that a degree-scale localization uncertainty can be achieved by the CAMELOT mission concept for bright short gamma-ray bursts, which could be covered by future large field of view ground-based telescopes. The new approach utilizing machine-learning approach is also investigated to make the procedure automated for the future large scale constellations. The trained neural network with 10$^6$ simulated light curves generated by the artificial short burst templates successfully predicts the time-delay of the real light curve and achieves a comparable performance to the cross-correlation algorithm with full automated procedures., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of SPIE "Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation" 2020

The HERMES-TP/SP (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites -- Technologic and Scientific Pathfinder) is an in-orbit demonstration of the so-called distributed astronomy concept. Conceived as a mini-constellation of six 3U nano-satellites hosting a new miniaturized detector, HERMES-TP/SP aims at the detection and accurate localisation of bright high-energy transients such as Gamma-Ray Bursts. The large energy band, the excellent temporal resolution and the wide field of view that characterize the detectors of the constellation represent the key features for the next generation high-energy all-sky monitor with good localisation capabilities that will play a pivotal role in the future of Multi-messenger Astronomy. In this work, we will describe in detail the temporal techniques that allow the localisation of bright transient events taking advantage of their almost simultaneous observation by spatially spaced detectors. A software toolkit for the simulation of activation background for high energy detectors onboard satellites is presented on behalf of the HERMES-SP collaboration. The framework employs direct Monte Carlo and analytical calculations allowing computations two orders of magnitude faster and more precise than a direct Monte Carlo simulation. The framework was developed in a way that the model of the satellite can be replaced easily. Therefore the framework can be used for different satellite missions. GRBAlpha is a 1U CubeSat mission with an expected launch date in the first half of 2021. It carries a 75 × 75 × 5 mm CsI(Tl) scintillator, read out by a dual-channel multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) setup, to detect gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The GRB detector is an in-orbit demonstration for the detector system on the Cubesats Applied for MEasuring and LOcalising Transients (CAMELOT) mission. While GRBAlpha provides 1/8th of the expected effective area of CAMELOT, the comparison of the observed light curves with other existing GRB monitoring satellites will allow us to validate the core idea of CAMELOT, i.e. the feasibility of timing-based localization

We present an archival analysis of Chandra X-ray observations for twelve nearby early-type galaxies hosting radio sources with radio power $>10^{23} \, \rm{W}~\rm{Hz}^{-1}$ at 1.4 GHz, similar to the radio power of the radio source in NGC 4261. Previously, in a similar analysis of eight nearby X-ray and optically-bright elliptical galaxies, Werner et al. 2012, found that NGC 4261 exhibited unusually low central gas entropy compared to the full sample. In the central 0.3 kpc of NGC 4261, the ratio of cooling time to freefall time ($t_{\rm{cool}}/t_{\rm ff}$) is less than $10$, indicating that cold clouds may be precipitating out of the hot ambient medium and providing fuel for accretion in the central region. NGC 4261 also hosts the most powerful radio source in the original sample. Because NGC 4261 may represent an important phase during which powerful feedback from a central active galactic nucleus (AGN) is fueled by multiphase condensation in the central kpc, we searched the Chandra archive for analogs to NGC 4261. We present entropy profiles of those galaxies as well as profiles of $t_{\rm{cool}}/t_{\rm ff}$. We find that one of them, IC 4296, exhibits properties similar to NGC 4261, including the presence of only single phase gas outside of $r \sim 2$ kpc and a similar central velocity dispersion. We compare the properties of NGC 4261 and IC 4296 to hydrodynamic simulations of AGN feedback fueled by precipitation. We present the results of deep Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray imaging and spatially-resolved spectroscopy of Abell 2256, a nearby (z=0.058) galaxy cluster experiencing multiple mergers and displaying a rich radio morphology dominated by a large relic. The X-ray data reveals three subclusters: (i) the `main cluster'; (ii) the remnant of an older merger in the east of the cluster with a ~ 600 kpc long tail; (iii) a bright, bullet-like, low-entropy infalling system, with a large line-of-sight velocity component. The low-entropy system displays a 250 kpc long cold front with a break and an intriguing surface brightness decrement. Interestingly, the infalling gas is not co-spatial with bright galaxies and the radio loud brightest cluster galaxy of the infalling group appears dissociated from the low entropy plasma by 50 kpc in projection, to the south of the eastern edge of the cold front. Assuming that the dark matter follows the galaxy distribution, we predict that it is also significantly offset from the low-entropy gas. Part of the low frequency radio emission near the cold front might be revived by magnetic field amplification due to differential gas motions. Using analytical models and numerical simulations, we investigate the possibility that the supersonic infall of the subcluster generates a large scale shock along our line-of-sight, which can be detected in the X-ray temperature map but is not associated with any clear features in the surface brightness distribution., Accepted for publication in MNRAS. X-ray substructures in clusters of galaxies provide indirect clues about the microphysical properties of the intracluster medium (ICM), which are still not very well known. In order to investigate X-ray substructures in detail, we studied archival $\sim$1~Msec Chandra data of the core of the Perseus cluster, focusing on the substructures associated with the sloshing cold front. In the east half of the cold front, we found a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) layer candidate. The measured width-to-azimuthal extension ratio and the thermodynamic properties are all consistent with it being a KHI layer currently developing along the sloshing cold front. We found a thermal pressure deficit of the order of 10$^{-2}~\mathrm{keV~cm^{-3}}$ at the KHI layer. Assuming that turbulent pressure fully supports the pressure deficit, we estimated the turbulent strength at several hundred km~s$^{-1}$, which translates into the turbulent heating rate of $Q_\mathrm{turb}\sim 10^{-26}~\mathrm{erg~cm^{-3}~s^{-1}}$. This value agrees within an order of magnitude with the previous estimation derived from the surface brightness fluctuations, and can balance the radiative cooling at this radius. In the west half of the cold front, we found feather-like structures which are similar to the structures observed in recent numerical simulations of the gas sloshing of magnetized plasma. Their thermodynamic properties are consistent with one of the feathers being a projected gas depletion layer induced by the amplified magnetic field whose strength is $B\sim$30$~\mathrm{\mu G}$., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

The relative importance of the physical processes shaping the thermodynamics of the hot gas permeating rotating, massive early-type galaxies is expected to be different from that in non-rotating systems. Here, we report the results of the analysis of XMM-Newton data for the massive, lenticular galaxy NGC 7049. The galaxy harbours a dusty disc of cool gas and is surrounded by an extended hot X-ray emitting gaseous atmosphere with unusually high central entropy. The hot gas in the plane of rotation of the cool dusty disc has a multi-temperature structure, consistent with ongoing cooling. We conclude that the rotational support of the hot gas is likely capable of altering the multiphase condensation regardless of the $t_{\rm cool}/t_{\rm ff}$ ratio, which is here relatively high, $\sim 40$. However, the measured ratio of cooling time and eddy turnover time around unity ($C$-ratio $\approx 1$) implies significant condensation, and at the same time, the constrained ratio of rotational velocity and the velocity dispersion (turbulent Taylor number) ${\rm Ta_t} > 1$ indicates that the condensing gas should follow non-radial orbits forming a disc instead of filaments.
