Gentiopicroside isolated from gentiana macrophylla Pall. belongs to iridoid glycosides. This study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of gentiopicroside against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in mice. Mice were proactively administrated with gentiopicroside by intragastric administration once a day for 3 consecutive days. On the 3rd day, gastric ulcer in mice was induced with 70% ethanol after the last intragastric administration. The stomach tissues were submitted for evaluation of the severity of gastric mucosal alterations. Gentiopicroside administrated orally ameliorated the severity of gastric mucosal alterations. Oral administration of gentiopicroside significantly increased heat shock protein-70 and glutathione levels and superoxide dismutase activity, normalized epidermal growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor levels, and decreased the levels of tumour necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and malondialdehyde, and myeloperoxidase activity in gastric tissue. These findings demonstrated that gentiopicroside has protective effect against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in mice through the improvements of antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as up-regulation of heat shock protein-70 level and normalization of epidermal growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor levels. The results presented in this study provide some evidence for the development of a novel antigastric ulcer agent.

International audience; Data aggregation is an effective traffic-saving solution in Wireless Sensor Networks. A group of aggregation functions are proposed to save traffic and network capacity, thereby extending network lifetime. While when given an application and a target accuracy, how to select an appropriate function is not well being discussed. Considering the forecasting aggregation functions, we propose classification of the functions to guild how to select the appropriate one. Using target accuracy (the accuracy requirement predefined by the application), the distribution of raw data and performance of the functions (modeled by a Markov Decision Process), we classify the functions into a map, that shows which function performs better depending on target accuracy and the characterized data distribution.

A fast response time, low limit of detection and high fluorescence quantum yield probe DTCC was designed and synthesized to detect SO 2 derivatives based on coumarin-thiophene dye which was fused with a coumarin moiety and 2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde. , Sulfur fumigation has attracted extensive attention as one of the important post-harvest processing methods for some traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) in the last decade. However, sulfur fumigation has recently emerged as a controversial topic due to its potential detrimental effects on the safety and efficacy of TCMs as some sulfur-fumigated TCMs contain numerous sulfur dioxide derivatives; moreover, high levels of sulfur dioxide derivatives can cause some diseases and dangerous environmental pollution. In this study, a DTCC probe with a fast response time, low limit of detection and a high fluorescence quantum yield was designed and synthesized to detect SO 2 derivatives based on the coumarin-thiophene dye, which was fused with a coumarin moiety and 2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde. The probe DTCC exhibited a fast response time (less than 10 s), satisfactory selectivity for SO 2 derivatives in the presence of other ROS and excellent sensitivity for SO 2 derivatives with a low limit of detection (0.23 μM) as well as a wide linear range (0\textendash 100 μM). Furthermore, the probe DTCC was successfully applied in fluorescence imaging in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells with excellent membrane permeability and stability. It was also employed in monitoring the total SO 2 derivatives in several real TCM samples. These results illustrate that the probe DTCC has an excellent capability for monitoring SO 2 derivatives in living cells and real TCM samples.

It is extremely important and necessary to develop a highly sensitive and excellent selective fluorescence probe for detection of ClO− in living systems because the excess production of ClO− was related to a series of diseases. Herein, a novel turn-on colorimetric fluorescent probe ADT-MAM based on naphthalenone scaffold was successfully designed and synthesized for highly selective and sensitive detection of ClO− with fast response time, a large Stokes shift, low limit of detection and wide pH range in applications. Meanwhile, probe ADT-MAM allowed colorimetric detection of ClO− by naked eyes. Fluorescence titration experiments showed that the probe has an excellent linear relationship (R2 = 0.9949) and a low detection limit of 0.15 μM. HOMO-LUMO energy based on density functional theory (DFT) has been calculated in order to provide a better understanding of optical property for ADT-MAM and DTC. Moreover, the probe could be applied to sense exogenous imaging of ClO− in HeLa cells and A549 cells with negligible cytotoxicity, cell membrane permeability and good biocompatibility. The success of subcellular imaging suggested that such a novel probe ADT-MAM could be applied to further reveal essential biological functions and pathological roles of ClO− in extensive biological systems.

Aucubin, an iridoid glycoside, was isolated from seeds of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver. This study was aimed to evaluate the protective effect of aucubin against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in mice.Mice were orally administrated with aucubin (20, 40 and 80mg/kg) for 3 consecutive days. On the 3rd day, the mice of gastric mucosal injury were induced with 70% ethanol after the last administration of aucubin. Gastric tissue of mice were submitted for evaluating the severity of gastric mucosal injury. The protective effect of aucubin was evaluated by the gastric ulcer index and histological examinations and determining the levels of inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress and some gastric mucosal protection factors.Prophylactic oral administration of aucubin decreased gastric ulcer indexes and histological scores. A significant decrease of myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were observed in aucubin administrated groups. In addition, mice administrated with aucubin increased glutathione (GSH) and heat shock protein-70 (HSP-70) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, as well as normalized the levels of epidermal growth factor (EGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) in gastric tissue of mice.The findings of this study demonstrated that aucubin shows protective effect against ethanol-induced acute gastric mucosal injury through its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. Furthermore, aucubin enhanced gastric mucosal protection by up-regulation of HSP-70 level and normalization of EGF, VEGF and COX-1 levels.

International audience; The Ordos Loess Plateau with its iconic fluvial incision pattern represents an uplifted but internally stable plateau crustal block on the eastern fringe of the Tibetan Plateau. The Ordos Loess Plateau deeply incised river landscapes and hence its inaccessibility helped to protect ancient China from invading nomads from the north. The Ordos Block is internally free of seismicity but its boundaries feature severe high-magnitude earthquakes. Due to the ongoing India-Asia convergence, the northeastward expansion of the Tibetan Plateau leading to the eastward lateral extrusion of fault-bounded blocks. The Ordos Loess Plateau is part of one of these blocks and is still affected by lateral eastward motion along crustal scale faults and large surface uplift from Late Miocene to present. In this study, we investigated the effect of fault activity on the morphological evolution of the Ordos Loess Plateau. To quantify the effect of uplift gradients on the drainage systems, we investigated topographic patterns and landform metrics through field surveys and topographic analysis based on digital elevation models. Field surveys show that the southern boundary of the Ordos Loess Plateau to the Weihe Graben is still tectonically active (evidence for faulting in quaternary sediments). We found that the drainage is consistently directed towards the Weihe Graben in the southeast. Fluvial channels are in a state of morphological disequilibrium, with steep channel segments towards the Weihe Graben and meandering low gradient rivers in the central Ordos Loess Plateau. Over substantial portions, the shape of the longitudinal channel profile in the Ordos Loess Plateau is straight and deviates from usual graded longitudinal channel profiles. We further found that the degree of erosion and plateau incision is pronounced in the eastern part of the Ordos Loess Plateau, while the southwestern part is less incised. The drainage network indicated that the drainage basins are tilted toward the Liupanshan Mountains overthrust in the southwest. We conclude that the far-field influence of the Cenozoic uplift of the Tibetan Plateau activated the southwestern and southern boundary faults around the Ordos Loess Plateau. The drainage systems reorganized to a principal southern flow direction and thereby progressively incised in the Ordos Loess Plateau, causing severe soil erosion.

International audience; Recently, the evolution of the Weyl point (WP) caused by the introduction of nonhermiticity into Weyl semimetals has aroused great research interest. We consider elastic flexural wave propagation in a phononic beam containing piezoelectric materials and introduce nonhermiticity through active regulation of external circuits. Considering a synthetic parameter space constituted by the one-dimensional Bloch wave vector and two geometrical parameters, we demonstrate that a double WP (DWP) arises at the band crossing. Then we study its evolution from the hermitic to nonhermitic situation under the effect of the active piezoelectric materials. We find that the DWP in the hermitic case evolves into a Weyl degenerate line and a Weyl hollow ring as concerns the real and imaginary parts of the Weyl frequencies, respectively. The formation mechanisms of the DWPs, lines, and rings are explained through the Hamiltonian of the system. Further, we observe the changes of the DWP and degenerate line in the transmission spectra of finite structures. Finally, we discuss the synthetic Fermi arc interface states through the analysis of the reflected phase vortices. In this paper, we provide insights into the high-dimensional Hermitian and non-Hermitian physics in elastic wave systems using synthetic dimensions.

International audience; Iron oxide (Fe2O3) is a promising substitute for other hydrogen storage materials, which can store/produce hydrogen by a reversible redox process (Fe3O4+4H2↔3Fe+4H2O). In order to evaluate the effectiveness of iron oxide for this purpose, a series of Mo-doped iron oxides (Fe2O3-5%Mo, -8%Mo and -10%Mo) were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. The catalytic effect of Mo cations in the samples on hydrogen production was investigated. The results show that the addition of Mo ion to Fe2O3 could improve hydrogen production in water decomposition at a relatively modest temperature (300-400°C) and the Fe2O3-8%Mo sample was the most effective one. A reasonable explanation for this result is that the repeated change (Mo4+↔Mo3++Mo0) of valence of Mo ion during the redox process resulted in the change of composition and microstructure of the doped samples, which suppressed sintering. The apparent activation energy of Fe2O3 and Fe2O3-8%Mo at H2 production step is about 55.53-65.30 and 36.17-45.19 kJ*mol-1, respectively. The cooperative effect of Mo ions and active Fe on water decomposition is the main reason for lowering the activation energy, which was also the one for enhancing hydrogen production.

Hibernators are a natural model of vascular ischemia–reperfusion injury; however, the protective mechanisms involved in dealing with such an injury over the torpor–arousal cycle are unclear. The present study aimed to clarify the changes in the thoracic aorta and serum in summer-active (SA), late-torpor (LT) and interbout-arousal (IBA) Daurian ground squirrels (Spermophilus dauricus). The results show that total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was unchanged, but malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) were significantly increased for the LT group, whereas the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) were significantly reduced in the LT group as compared with the SA group. Moreover, the levels of MDA and IL-1β were significantly reduced, whereas SOD and IL-10 were significantly increased in the IBA group as compared with the SA group. In addition, the lumen area of the thoracic aorta and the expression of the smooth muscle cells (SMCs) contractile marker protein 22α (SM22α) were significantly reduced, whereas the protein expression of the synthetic marker proteins osteopontin (OPN), vimentin (VIM) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) were significantly increased in the LT group as compared with the SA group. Furthermore, the smooth muscle layer of the thoracic aorta was significantly thickened, and PCNA protein expression was significantly reduced in the IBA group as compared with the SA group. The contractile marker proteins SM22α and synthetic marker protein VIM underwent significant localization changes in both LT and IBA groups, with localization of the contractile marker protein α-smooth muscle actin (αSMA) changing only in the IBA group as compared with the SA group. In tunica intima, the serum levels of heparin sulfate (HS) and syndecan-1 (Sy-1) in the LT group were significantly reduced, but the serum level of HS in the IBA group increased significantly as compared with the SA group. Protein expression and localization of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) was unchanged in the three groups. In summary, the decrease in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and pro-inflammatory factors and increase in SOD and anti-inflammatory factors during the IBA period induced controlled phenotypic switching of thoracic aortic SMCs and restoration of endothelial permeability to resist ischemic and hypoxic injury during torpor of Daurian ground squirrels.

International audience; Many insects metamorphose from antagonistic larvae into mutualistic adult pollinators, with reciprocal adaptation leading to specialized insect-plant associations. It remains unknown how such interactions are established at molecular level. Here we assemble high-quality genomes of a fig species, Ficus pumila var. pumila, and its specific pollinating wasp, Wiebesia pumilae. We combine multi-omics with validation experiments to reveal molecular mechanisms underlying this specialized interaction. In the plant, we identify the specific compound attracting pollinators and validate the function of several key genes regulating its biosynthesis. In the pollinator, we find a highly reduced number of odorant-binding protein genes and an odorant-binding protein mainly binding the attractant. During antagonistic interaction, we find similar chemical profiles and turnovers throughout the development of galled ovules and seeds, and a significant contraction of detoxification-related gene families in the pollinator. Our study identifies some key genes bridging coevolved mutualists, establishing expectations for more diffuse insect-pollinator systems.

The versatile and flexible coordination modes of phenoxo groups from salicylic hydrazide prove to be a key factor in the assembly of corresponding structures depending upon the reaction conditions. It is noteworthy that ligands HL2- act as a long-distance link and further connect the Dy-2 fragments into an infinite 1D chain due to the conformational flexibility resulting from the rotatable C-C bond in 5. Furthermore, the magnetic measurements were performed on all complexes. The dc magnetic susceptibility data evidence distinct magnetic coupling interactions in the dinuclear complexes 2 (antiferromagnetic) and 3 (ferromagnetic) despite their similar structures, and only complex 3 shows slow relaxation behavior of magnetization. Ab initio calculations and electrostatic potential analysis on complexes 2, 3, and three other complexes (6, 7, 8) incorporating different kinds of ligands reveal the important inter-relationship of magnetic anisotropy, magnetic coupling interactions and SMM properties.

International audience; The amount of protein thiols play a crucial role in maintaining the cellular redox homeostasis and have significant implications to indicate a series of diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an ideal probe for protein thiol detection in a simple and readily implementable method. Consequently, a water-soluble and incubate-free fluorescent environment-sensitive probe DMTs-OCC was synthesized using 7-diethylamincoumarin as the fluorophore and 4-(5-Methanesulfonyl- [1,2,3,4]tetrazol-1-yl)-phenol (MSTP) as a thiol receptor reagent. The blue-shift emission spectra of probe DMTs-OCC was observed by ultrafast binding to protein sulfhydryl groups from the excited intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) to the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) conversion process in aqueous solution. The experimental results showed that probe DMTs-OCC exhibited an excellent selectivity to protein thiols and biocompatibility in aqueous solution, as well as terrific cell membrane permeability which enabled the successful visualization of BSA protein thiol in living cells. Moreover, no excess probe was cleaned and no incubation time was needed in cell experiments. Therefore, it could provide a new method to the construction of fluorescent probes for protein thiols labelling and visualization.

International audience; The tetralone and tetralone derivatives, as crucial structural scaffolds of potential novel drugs targeted at multiple biological end-points, are normally found in several natural compounds and also, it can be used as parental scaffold and/or intermediate for the synthesis of a series of pharmacologically active compounds with a broad-spectrum of bioactivities including antibacterial, antitumor, CNS effect and so on. Meanwhile, SAR information of its analogues has drawn attentions among medicinal chemists, which could contribute to the further research related to tetralone derivatives aimed at multiple targets. This review encompasses pharmacological activities, SAR analysis and docking study of tetralone and its derivatives, expecting to provide a general retrospect and prospect on tetralone derivatives.

International audience; Many populations suffer from thrombotic disorders such as stroke, myocardial infarction, unstable angina and thromboembolic disease. Thrombus is one of the major threatening factors to human health and the prevalence of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases induced by thrombus is growing worldwide, even some persons got rare and severe blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine unexpectedly. In terms of mechanism of thrombosis, antithrombotic drugs have been divided into three categories including anticoagulants, platelet inhibitors and fibrinolytics. Nowadays, a large number of new compounds possessing antithrombotic activities are emerging in an effort to remove the inevitable drawbacks of previously approved drugs such as the high risk of bleeding, a slow onset of action and a narrow therapeutic window. In this review, we describe the causes and mechanisms of thrombus formation firstly, and then summarize these reported active compounds as potential antithrombotic candidates based on their respective mechanism, hoping to promote the development of more effective bioactive molecules for treating thrombotic disorders.

International audience; A novel turn-on fluorescent probe with barbituric acid as a unique recognition group has been rationally designed and synthesized using a facile method for detecting hydrazine. The 5-((7-(dimethylamino)-4,5-dihydronaphtho [1,2-b] thiophen-2-yl)methylene)pyrimidine-2,4,6 (1H,3H,5H)-trione (DPT) probe displays a large emission signal ratio variation (more than a 40-fold enhancement) in the presence of hydrazine under neutral conditions. Interestingly, a novel recognition mechanism based on a hydrazine-triggered addition-cyclisation-retro aldol was proposed and confirmed. Additionally, the DPT probe exhibits a low detection limit (5 × 10-8 M), applicable to the physiological pH range (3-12), a broad linear response range for hydrazine concentrations between 0 and 34 μM and a large Stokes shift (147 nm) for hydrazine detection in aqueous solution. Moreover, the DPT probe was successfully implemented for hydrazine imaging in vivo.

International audience; Respiration rate sensing plays a critical role in elderly care and patient monitoring. The latest research has explored the possibility of employing Wi-Fi signals for respiration sensing without attaching a device to the target. A critical issue with these solutions includes that good monitoring performance could only be achieved at certain locations within the sensing range, while the performance could be quite poor at other "dead zones." In addition, due to the contactless nature, it is challenging to monitor multiple targets simultaneously as the reflected signals are often mixed together. In this work, we present our system, named LungTrack, hosted on commodity RFID devices for respiration monitoring. Our system retrieves subtle signal fluctuations at the receiver caused by chest displacement during respiration without need for attaching any devices to the target. It addresses the dead-zone issue and enables simultaneous monitoring of two human targets by employing one RFID reader and carefully positioned multiple RFID tags, using an optimization technique. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that LungTrack can achieve a respiration monitoring accuracy of greater than 98% for a single target at all sensing locations (within 1 st − 5 th Fresnel zones) using just one RFID reader and five tags, when the target's orientation is known a priori. For the challenging scenario involve two human targets, LungTrack is able to achieve greater than 93% accuracy when the targets are separated by at least 10 cm.

TMCA (3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamic acid) ester and amide are privileged structural scaffolds in drug discovery which are widely distributed in natural products and consequently produced diverse therapeutically relevant pharmacological functions. Owing to the potential of TMCA ester and amide analogues as therapeutic agents, researches on chemical syntheses and modifications have been carried out to drug-like candidates with broad range of medicinal properties such as antitumor, antiviral, CNS (central nervous system) agents, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and hematologic agents for a long time. At the same time, SAR (structure-activity relationship) studies have draw greater attention among medicinal chemists, and many of the lead compounds were derived for various disease targets. However, there is an urgent need for the medicinal chemists to further exploit the precursor in developing chemical entities with promising bioactivity and druggability. This review concisely summarizes the synthesis and biological activity for TMCA ester and amide analogues. The total synthesis of putative penasulfate A was effectively achieved by a convergent strategy with a longest linear sequence of 14 steps and overall yield of 8.6%. The highlights of our strategy involved an E-selective olefin cross-metathesis, Suzuki cross-coupling, and a copper(I)-catalyzed coupling reaction.

Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) is a major constituent of the herb Glycyrrhiza glabra, and many of its derivatives demonstrate a broad spectrum of antiviral activities. In the current study, 18 water-soluble β-cyclodextrin (CD)-GA conjugates, in which GA was covalently coupled to the primary face of β-CD using 1,2,3-triazole moiety along with varying lengths of linker, were synthesized via copper-catalyzed azide-alkyl cycloaddition reaction. Benefited from the attached β-CD moiety, all these conjugates showed lower hydrophobicity (AlogP) compared with their parent compound GA. With the exception of per-O-methylated β-CD-GA conjugate (35), all other conjugates showed no significant cytotoxicity to MDCK cells, and these conjugates were then screened against A/WSN/33 (H1N1) virus using the cytopathic effect assay. The preliminary results indicated that six conjugates showed promising antiviral activity, and the C-3 and C-30 of GA could tolerate some modifications. It is urgently necessary to develop more effective anti-influenza agents due to the continuous emergence of drug-resistant strains of influenza virus. Our earlier studies have identified that certain pentacyclic triterpene derivatives are effective inhibitors of influenza virus infection. In the present study, a series of C-28 modified pentacyclic triterpene derivatives via conjugation with a series of polyphenols were synthesized, and their antiviral activities against influenza A/WSN/33 (H1N1) virus in MDCK (Madin-Darby canine kidney) cells were evaluated. Four compounds 23m, 23o, 23q and 23s displayed robust anti-influenza potency with averaged IC50 values at the low-micromole level, surpassing the potency of oseltamivir. In addition, the in vitro cytotoxic activity of the four conjugates against MDCK cells showed no toxicity at 100 μM. Further mechanism studies of compound 23s, one of the best representative conjugates with IC50 value of 5.80 μM and a selective index (SI) value of over 17.2, by hemagglutination inhibition (HI), surface plasmon resonance and molecular modeling indicated that this conjugate bound tightly to the viral envelope hemagglutinin (KD = 15.6 μM), thus blocking the invasion of influenza viruses into host cells.

The Longmenshan Thrust Belt in Eastern Tibet resulted from a Mesozoic orogeny and Cenozoic reworking. It is generally believed that the Cenozoic tectonics along the Longmenshan Thrust Belt are mostly inherited from the Mesozoic. Reconstructing the Mesozoic tectonics of the Longmenshan Thrust Belt is therefore important for understanding its evolutionary history. On the basis of detailed structural analysis, we recognized a Main Central Boundary that divides the Longmenshan Thrust Belt into a Southeastern Zone and a Northwestern Zone. Both zones underwent a main D1 event characterized by D1E top-to-the-SE thrusting in the Southeastern Zone and D1W top-to-the-NW/N thrusting in the Northwestern Zone. In the Southeastern Zone, a D2 top-to-the-NW/N normal faulting that cuts the D1E structures is developed along the NW boundary of the basement complexes. Newly obtained and previous geochronological data indicate that the D1E and D1W events occurred synchronously at ca. 224–219 Ma, and the D2 top-to-the-NW/N normal faulting was episodically activated at ca. 166–160 Ma, 141–120 Ma, 81–47 Ma, and 27–25 Ma. Episodic and synchronously activated top-to-the-NW normal faulting and top-to-the-SE thrusting along the northwestern and southeastern boundaries of the basement complexes, respectively, leads us to propose that the basement slices were episodically imbricated to the SE during the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous and Late Cretaceous–earliest Paleocene. The D1 amphibolite facies metamorphic rocks above the basement complexes recorded fast exhumation during the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous. We propose that the early Mesozoic northwestward basement underthrusting along a crustal “weak zone” was responsible for the D1 double-vergent thrusting and amphibolite facies metamorphism. Subsequent basement-slice imbrications reworked the Longmenshan Thrust Belt and exhumed the amphibolite facies rocks. Our results highlight the importance of basement underthrusting and imbrication in the formation and reworking of the intracontinental Longmenshan Thrust Belt in Eastern Tibet.

International audience; The South China Block is situated in the Eastern Asian margin. Since the Neoproterozoic, its tectonic evolution was constrained by successive consumption-closure processes of the Paleo-South China, Proto-Tethys, Paleo-Tethys, and Paleo-Pacific oceans. Studies suggest that this block was initially formed by the Neoproterozoic assembly of the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks following the subduction-accretion of the Paleo-South China Ocean. Then after, it experienced three tectonic-magmatic events in the Phanerozoic. Among these events, the Late Mesozoic tectonism-magmatism was linked with the consumption of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean, while the Silurian and Early to Middle Triassic events took place in intracontinental settings that were related to far-field effects of the closure of the remote Proto-Tethys and Paleo-Tethys oceans, respectively. The subduction-accretion of the Paleo-South China Ocean, and collision at 980–820 Ma between the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks formed the Jiangnan Orogenic Belt and the Proto-South China Continent, followed by a rifting tectonics and bimodal volcanism at 810–760 Ma. From 760 Ma to 460 Ma, the South China Block was situated under shore, shallow sea to slope depositional environments. During Late Ordovician to Early Devonian (460–400 Ma), an intracontinental orogeny occurred mainly in the Cathaysia Block as a response to the closure of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. Shortly afterwards, this block underwent a stable carbonate deposition during Early Devonian- Middle Triassic (400–230 Ma) and was thus under a shore or shallow sea environment. In the Middle-Late Triassic (240–220 Ma), the South China Block was affected by the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean, intracontinental deformation and S-type granitic magmatism. During the Cretaceous, a multi-stage basin-and-range framework occurred in the western shore of the Paleo-Pacific Plate.
