Background: In order to restore the individual's health in lumbar stabilization surgeries, it is aimed to bring the sagittal alignment closer to normal values, to eliminate the findings, and thus to increase the quality of life of the individual by reducing the disability level. The aim of this study is to measure the effects of lumbar region stabilization surgeries performed in our clinic on some angular values in the spine, disability and quality of life. Preoperative (preop) and postoperative (postop) radiographs of 30 individuals over the age of 40 who applied to our clinic with various lumbar region complaints and underwent lumbar stabilization surgery between the years 2020–2022 were taken. Lumbar lordosis, pelvic tilt, sacral slope and pelvic inclination angles were measured from the images obtained. The Visual Analog Scale was used to measure the pain of individuals, the Oswestry Disability Index to measure the disability level, and the Nottingham Health Profile questionnaire to measure the quality of life. Preop and postop data were analyzed with the SPSS 23.0 program and p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The lumbar lordosis angles of individuals who underwent lumbar stabilization surgery approached normal values and the difference between preop–postop lumbar lordosis angle averages was significant (p < 0.05); It was observed that the harmony between the lumbar lordosis and pelvic inclination angles increased, the pain decreased and the difference between preop–postop pain values was significant (p < 0.05), disability levels decreased and quality of life increased. Conclusions: The decrease in the level of disability and the increase in the quality of life seen in individuals who underwent lumbar stabilization surgery were associated with the decrease in pain; The changes in angular values are considered to be clinically significant. A chronic condition is a physical or emotional wellness condition that endures over a year, causes utilitarian limitations, or requires progressing checking or treatment. The aging of the population has caused a high prevalence of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Even though individuals live longer, they often live with disabilities and constant illnesses. Quality of life (QOL) has become a critical idea and focus for examination and practice in the fields of well-being and medication. During the previous years, more examination has focused on patients' QOL, and the utilization of QOL evaluations has expanded. Health-related QOL (HRQOL) is now mandatory in assessing health outcomes. Searches were conducted using PUBMED, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Google to find the studies published in peer-reviewed journals. Key search terms included HRQOL, QOL, SF-36, MQOL, COOP chart, SIP, NHP, QWB, EQ-5D, and EuroQol Instrument. Relevant articles were chosen from the search results. This review provides researchers and clinicians with up-to-date practical and comparative information on adult generic QOL instruments to help them decide which the instrument is best suited for their study. It examines the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form (SF-36) Health Survey, the McGill QoL Questionnaire - Original (MQOL - Original), the Dartmouth Primary Care Cooperative Information Project (COOP) Charts, Sickness Impact Profile (SIP), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Quality of Well-Being (QWB) scale, and the EuroQOL 5-Dimension Instrument (EQ 5-D). This paper looks at 7 HR-QOL instruments and finds that there are no consistently "best" or "worst" instruments. The choice to use the generic QOL measure is driven by the reason for the assessment. AimSelf-rated health (SRH) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) have closely related outcomes in measuring general health status in community-based studies. The aim of this study is to determine changes in the self-perceived overall health of people and affected factors by comparing the findings of two studies conducted in the same research area.MethodsBoth studies were conducted using the same measurement tools in households determined by random sampling techniques in the same research areas. The first and second studies were conducted with 1,304 and 1,533 people residing in 501 and 801 households in 2004 and 2017, respectively. The demographic data form, the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), and a single-item SRH questionnaire were used for data collection.ResultsThe rate of good SRH increased from 56% to 70% while the average NHP score decreased from 30.87 to 20.34. The predictors of negative health perceptions were the presence of chronic diseases (OR 3.4–2.7-times higher), being female (OR.1.4–1.5 times higher), and the completion of primary education only (OR. 2.7–2.8 times higher) both 2004 and 2017. Living 500–1,000 m from the nearest healthcare facility was the main protective variable against poor SRH.ConclusionsGood SRH and HRQoL have increased significantly over time. Chronic diseases, education, and gender are the strongest predictors of poor SRH.

The link between disturbed sleep and the extended lockdown period resulting from COVID-19 is well established. Data from an online survey of 2341 of university students (n = 1972, 84.2%) and staff were reported. Overall (n = 1710, 73.1%) were female and the mean age for the sample was 29.26 (SD = 12.86). 1799 (76.8%) provided self-reported data from the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) Sleep Subscale that allowed sleep to be compared prior to the lockdown period and during the lockdown period. Sociodemographic data which included, gender, age, whether an individual was a student or member of the university staff, ethnicity, caring responsibilities, and highest educational level were collected. Other data included, the NHP Sleep Sub-scale, change in alcohol consumption during the lockdown period, routine behaviours during the lockdown period, self-efficacy and health and wellbeing. There was a significant deterioration in NHP Sleep scores (p < 0.001) and all areas of sleep that were assessed significantly deteriorated during the lockdown period. These included indicators of sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep disturbance and increased use of sleep medication. Following a multinomial logit regression with change of NHP sleep scores entered as the dependent variable there were several significant predictors. Women had greater sleep dysfunction than men. Increased alcohol consumption, lower educational status and a deterioration in health and well-being scores were associated with greater sleep dysfunction. Not having a designated area to work in and not putting on clothes and make-up were both associated with greater sleep dysfunction during the lockdown period. Background: The Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) is a generic measure of perceived distress that has been used widely as an outcome measure in clinical practice and trials. The availability of two Brazilian datasets provided the opportunity to assess the psychometric performance of the NHP in different populations - adult growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and pulmonary hypertension (PH). The purpose of the study was to see how valuable the NHP could be in assessing outcomes in diseases where no disease-specific measures are available. Methods: Secondary analyses were performed with NHP data. Patients diagnosed with adult GHD or PH were administered the NHP during clinic visits on two occasions, two weeks apart. A disease-specific measure of quality of life (QoL) was also administered to the relevant sample of patients on each occasion. Results: The psychometric properties of the NHP were good for both disease groups. As expected, both samples reported high scores on energy level, the PH sample scored high on physical functioning and the GHD sample on emotional reactions. For both samples, most of the NHP sections were able to distinguish between groups of respondents with different ratings of perceived general health. While most sections of the NHP were relatively highly correlated with the QoL measures, pain and sleep did not seem to be important predictors of QoL in either of the samples. Conclusions: The use of the NHP in adult GHD and PH populations in Brazil is not recommended as there are high-quality disease-specific measures available for each disease. However, where no disease-specific measures are available, the NHP can provide good descriptive information of the impact of disease on different patient populations.

Objectives: In this present study, we aimed to perform the reliability and validity analyses of the Turkish Form of Short Form-12 version 2 (SF-12v2) in different groups of patients. Patients and methods: After the permission for the validation study of the Turkish Form, Optum provided the authors the validly translated Turkish Form of SF-12v2. The study was carried out in rheumatological, psychiatric, and surgical wards of Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Training and Research Center between September 2019 and June 2020. Taking possible dropouts into consideration, a total of 136 patients (67 males, 69 females; mean age: 43.5±14.4 years; range 19 to 82 years) constituted the study group. In addition to SF-12v2, for concurrent validity, Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) was used as the comparator instrument. Results: In internal consistency, for the physical component summary score, the Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.80, and item-total score correlation coefficients were between 0.32 and 0.73. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the mental component summary score was found to be 0.88 where the item-total correlation coefficients varied between 0.60 and 0.78. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a two-factor solution, representing mental and physical components. For criterion validity, convergent and discriminant validity analyses were performed using NHP with SF-12v2, and domains of SF-12v2 correlated well with the domains of NHP accordingly. In criterion validity, the psychiatric group had the lowest mean score in mental health, vitality, social functioning and role difficulties due to emotional problems, whereas the surgical group had the lowest mean score in bodily pain, role difficulties due to physical problems, and physical functioning. Conclusion: Our study results show that the Turkish form of SF-12v2 is valid and reliable both in clinical practice and clinical trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The second purpose was to analyze the correlation between the domain values of NHP and the demographic and clinical parameters, functional efficiency, and mood. Patients and methods: The studies involved 212 patients with RA, divided into two groups: group I – 126 persons treated using csDMARDs, group II – 86 patients using csDMARDs in combination with bDMARDs. A diagnostic survey was used applying NHP for HRQoL, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ). The 28-Joint Disease Activity Score (DAS-28) was calculated. Results: The patients with RA in both studied groups did not differ significantly in terms of all the NHP domains, values of HAQ and BDI. The DAS-28 value, the number of swollen joints, and the duration of morning stiffness were significantly smaller among patients from group II. However, in both groups, the majority of the analyzed components of NHP demonstrated significant correlations with values of HAQ and BDI and some of the domains of NHP – with DAS-28. Conclusion: The level of HRQoL, functional efficiency, and mood are comparable in patients treated conventionally and in combination with biological drugs. The HRQoL level shows correlation with the occurrence of depression symptoms, and the energy level, the sensation of pain, and physical abilities are covariates with daily activities. The intensity of the activity of RA as well as experiencing pain and the duration of morning stiffness is smaller among patients applying csDMARDs plus bDMARDs compared with patients treated only conventionally. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the level of central sensitization (CS) and its relationship with health profile, including neuropathic pain and sleep quality in Behcet's disease (BD). Method: Eighty-eight patients with BD and 60 healthy controls (HCs) were included in the study between May 2018 and February 2019. Nottingham health profile (NHP), pain DETECT, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) questionnaires and the central sensitization inventory (CSI) were administered to all participants. To evaluate the correlations of the NHP, PSQI, and PDQ scores with the CSI score, the CSI was modified for each questionnaire. The activity of BD was determined by the Behcet's disease current activity form (BDCAF). Results: CSI scores were significantly higher in patients with BD than HCs (BD: 41.2 ±21.1 vs HCs: 20.4 ±16.9, p < .001). Clinical CS was detected in 69.3% of patients with BD and 28.3% of HCs (p < .001). Severe or extreme CS (CSI score ≥ 50) was present in 37.5% of patients with BD and 5.0% of HCs (p < .001). There were high correlations between the modified CSI scores and the NHP, PDQ and PSQI scores in patients with BD (R = 0.804; p < .001, Rho = 0.698; p < .001, and Rho = 0.734; p < .001, respectively). There was significant correlation between CSI and BDCAF scores (Rho= 0.470, p < .001). Conclusion: CS is more frequent and more severe in patients with BD than in HCs. Abstract Aim of the work To evaluate the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in primary knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients and to determine its relationships with clinical and radiological measures. Patients and methods This study included 50 primary KOA patients and 25 matched healthy controls. All were assessed by NHP-HRQoL, visual analog scale (VAS) for pain in rest and activity, 15-m walk test for physical performance and knee joint range of motion (ROM). Radiographic grading of KOA was scored using Kellgren–Lawrence (K-L) score. Results The 50 KOA patients were 33 (66%) females and 17 (34%) males with mean age of 43.3 ± 8.6 years and BMI of 32.2 ± 3.7. The VAS at rest was 2.6 ± 2.1, during motion was 6.2 ± 2.1, the 15-m test 22.6 ± 3.6 s, ROM active flexion 122.9 ± 10.8 and in passive flexion 132.1 ± 11.1. All NPH subscales (physical mobility, pain, energy level, sleep and emotional reaction) except social isolation showed significantly higher scores in KOA patients compared to controls and tended to be higher in females. There were significant correlations between NHP subscales with age, VAS-rest, VAS-activity, knee flexion and degree of incomplete extension, walk test, also with K-L score. Conclusion The NPH-HRQoL is affected in Egyptian patients with primary KOA and may be used as a measure to reflect pain, physical performance and radiographic severity. Physical mobility, pain, sleep, energy, and emotional reactions items were obviously reported except social isolation domain attributed to different cultures and morals of eastern communities. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate whether items in the Turkish version of the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) function differently according to age, sex, and duration of pain using the Mixed Rasch Model (MRM). Patients and methods: The NHP data of patients with low back pain from a previous study was analyzed. To analyze differential item functioning (DIF) within the items of the NHP, the MRM was used. Age, sex, and duration of pain were considered factors which could cause DIF. The most powerful factor to define latent classes derived from the MRM was estimated using the Rasch tree method. Results: The two-class mixture version of the nominal response model was identified as the best fitting model for the physical mobility, sleep, and social isolation sections. For the physical mobility dimension, some items showed DIF by age and for the social isolation dimension some items showed DIF by sex. For the sleep dimension, latent classes were unable to be explained by age, sex, and duration of pain. Items in other dimensions of the NHP were DIF-free and no items showed DIF according to age, sex, and duration of pain. Conclusion: The results of this study may shed light on explaining the different response behavior of patients on the items of the NHP. Age and sex were found to be variables affecting item responses of NHP. Contrary to expectations, duration of pain did not cause DIF for any item. From the perspective of DIF, it can be concluded that NHP scale is a robust scale in terms of validity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
