Abstract

Addressing the imperative need to eliminate hazardous lead from the widely used metal halide perovskite photovoltaics (PPVs), the search for efficient and stable lead‐free perovskite alternatives remains pivotal. Herein, a performance analysis of lead‐free, all‐inorganic cesium tin triiodide (CsSnI3)‐based PPVs with a graphene oxide hole transporting layer using solar cell capacitance simulator is presented. Various parameters to optimize the PPV performance, including CsSnI3 layer thickness, defect density, interface defect, parasitic resistances, and working temperature are explored. The optimization process yielded remarkable results, with open‐circuit voltage of 0.87 V, short‐circuit current density of 32.55 mA cm−2, fill factor of 77.59%, and power conversion efficiency of 22.15%. The proposed device structure and parameters not only contribute to the advancement of these experimental works but also offer a novel strategy for the structural optimization of lead‐free PPVs, thereby paving new avenues for future research in this area. 31. Porous titania-based composite materials and their high-throughput photocatalytic evaluation for environmental remediation

Abstract

Semiconductor-mediated photocatalysis is a promising technology for environmental remediation. Among various materials, titania is a well-known photocatalyst, yet much improvement is still required to further improve its activity. This thesis presents some approaches used to optimize the photocatalytic activity of porous titania-based materials that are physically viable for practical operations. Specifically, the effect of the addition of nitrogen during synthesis and silver nanoparticles combined with various templating methods were examined. A high-throughput testing system based on parallelization and miniaturization of methylene blue photodegradation reactions was also developed to facilitate the photocatalytic evaluation in an efficient manner. Hierarchically porous, anatase titania thin films of varied thickness were fabricated by a one-pot, soft-templating technique combined with a phase separation route. The pore structure was readily tuned by adjusting the concentration of the polymeric components added during the sol-gel synthesis. Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) altered the three dimensional pore structure, generating macroporous networks within the films. The highest photocatalytic activity under UV irradiation normalized by the accessible surface area was obtained by porous titania thin films prepared using 1:1:0 poly(ethylene glycol):PVP:F127. The addition of F127 did increase the overall photocatalytic activity, but lowered the activity per unit area because of obstructed light penetration. In order to effectively utilize the visible light, mesoporous anatase titania with nitrogen doping was prepared by a template-free, sol-gel synthesis route. The effect of calcination conditions and the type of titania precursor were investigated, highlighting their profound influence upon the adsorption and visible light activity. 32. Improving the Efficiency of Perovskite Solar Cell through the Addition of Compact Layer under TiO2 Electron Transfer Material

Abstract

In the fabrication of perovskite solar cells, the perovskite layer is typically deposited onto the TiO2 semiconductor layer. The TiO2 layer serves as an electron transport material (ETM). In order to form the perovskite layer firmly and evenly, a structured mesoporous (MS) TiO2 surface is required. A porous layer could also make the electrons move more quickly through the pores to reach the contact. However, the electron-hole recombination and electron trapping in the dead end pore are still occurred. One of the solutions to overcome this problem is to add a thin compact layer (CL)-TiO2 under MS-TiO2 layer. The CL-TiO2 is expected as to prevent recombination and attract electrons trapped in the MS-TiO2 layer. In this paper, we report the addition of a thin compact layer (CL)-TiO2 under MS-TiO2 layer in the fabrication of perovskite solar cells based on methyl ammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3). The compact layer TiO2 was grown under mesoporous TiO2 layer by dip-coating in TiCl4 solution. The time of the dip coating was varied to obtain an optimum efficiency improvement. The structure of the device is glass/FTO/CL-TiO2/MS-TiO2/ CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD/Ag/FTO/glass. It was concluded that the addition of CL-TiO2 can improve the perovskite solar cells power conversion efficiencies. The best efficiency was obtained from the 15 minutes dip-coating, which corresponded to the thinnest CL-TiO2 out of all samples. The electrical characterization performed under irradiation with an intensity of 50 mW/cm2 at 25 °C generated an open circuit voltage of 0.28 V, a short circuit current density of 0.25 mA/cm2 and a power conversion efficiency of 0.60 %.
