Introduction: Through guided and conscious deep breathing, cardiovascular biofeedback, an innovative technological tool that enables improved cardiac coherence and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which are vital for recovering and maintaining homeostasis and psycho-emotional health. Objective: To verify the effect of cardiovascular biofeedback on heart rate variability parameters in nursing professionals. Materials and Methods: This is a randomized clinical trial conducted in two groups — biofeedback and placebo — with 115 nursing professionals working in clinical and surgical inpatient units at a university hospital, who presented an overall stress level higher than 1, according to the Stress Symptom Scale. The groups participated in nine appointments over three weeks. The outcome was assessed by rMSSD parameters and cardiac coherence at the end of each appointment, which were measured using EmWave Pro Plus®, which uses photoplethysmography to quantify physiological data related to the heartbeat. The analysis was performed using generalized estimation equations, considering α = 5 %. Results: There was a significant time-group interaction in cardiac coherence parameters; the intervention group presented an increase in the mean cardiac coherence parameters at all measurement times, when compared to the control group (p < 0.001; r > 0.98). There was no significant time-group interaction in the rMSSD parameters at any of the measurement times (p = 0.432). As a mind-body therapy, cardiovascular biofeedback proved to be useful and promising. By promoting parasympathetic activation and relaxation, it is possible to prevent the deleterious effects associated with occupational stressors. Conclusion: The intervention with cardiovascular biofeedback proved to be superior to placebo in improving cardiac coherence, resulting in the recovery of the body’s homeostasis. ABSTRACT Objective: to investigate excessive daytime sleepiness prevalence among nursing technicians and the association with sleep quality and memory. Methods: a cross-sectional, inferential study, carried out in a hospital unit in the state of Goiás between December 2020 and January 2021. Assessments were carried out using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire, instruments validated for the Brazilian context. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyzes were performed. Results: the sample consisted of 189 nursing technicians with a 40.9% excessive daytime sleepiness prevalence. In multivariate models, excessive daytime sleepiness was not associated with sleep quality, however there was a significant association with overall memory failures. Conclusions: study results demonstrate a high excessive daytime sleepiness occurrence, an association with overall memory failures and the need for psychosocial interventions for nursing technicians.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze sleep duration and sleep quality in nursing professionals who work in shifts. Method: this is a cross-sectional, analytical research, carried out between September 2017 and April 2018, at a public hospital in southern Brazil, with the nursing team. A socio-occupational and health symptoms questionnaire, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were used. ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate working conditions in nursing when facing the Covid-19 pandemic, in light of aspects of precarious work. Methods: Cross-sectional study, with 131 nursing workers who worked against Covid-19 in hospitals in Alagoas State, Northeast Brazil. Data were collected online, using a workers’ health assessment questionnaire. The Chi -Square or Fisher’s Exact test and logistic regression were used. Results: among nursing workers, 71% had precarious contracts, 33.6% reported extended working hours and 23.7% were union members. In the multivariable analysis, having little hospital experience was a predictor for poor employment (OR= 2.408; 95%CI= 1.051-5.518). The predictor variables for lengthening the working day were being a nurse (OR= 3.824; 95%CI= 1.274-11.483); overtime (OR= 3.668; 95%CI= 1.009-13.333) and inadequate number of workers (OR= 10.872; 95%CI= 3.409-34.675). Being a nursing technician was a predictor of being a union member (OR= 8.967; 95%CI=2.560-31.410). Conclusions: The pandemic has accentuated the precariousness of working conditions in nursing professionals, especially among nurses.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the implications of working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic for Nursing professionals. Method: Qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study conducted in four hospitals in southern Brazil. A total of 349 records made by nurses and nursing technicians/assistants through an electronic form were selected and submitted to content analysis. Ethical aspects were respected, and the participants consented to the Free and Informed Consent Form. Results: The increase in work demands and exhaustion were evidenced; the lack of hospital institutional support in assisting infected workers and in view of the need for further testing; and the impacts of the devaluation of Nursing, expressed by feelings of vulnerability and lack of recognition. Final considerations: The pandemic increased the wear and tear of Nursing with a projection of the lack of structure for crises situations. It is suggested to invest in the emotional and managerial resources of health care teams to better cope with similar health crises in the future.

Objective: Analyzing the impact of nursing workforce development, training and standardization on hybrid operating theatres., Methods: Thirty nurses in the mixed operating room of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2021 to December 2021 were selected as the control group to receive routine nursing management and training methods and another thirty nurses were selected as the experimental group to receive nursing team construction, training and standardized management based on conventional methods. Nurses' theoretical and operational scores, nurses' satisfaction, surgeon satisfaction with nurses, and nursing service quality scores were compared between two groups at baseline and after intervention., Results: After the intervention, nurses in both groups had a significant improvement in theoretical and operational scores than those at baseline, and nurses in the experimental group had better scores than those in the control group, The difference was statistically significant (P = .002, P = .004). Nursing quality of surgical preparation, environmental management, surgical safety, and instrument management in the intervention group were significantly better than those at baseline and better than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P = .001, P = .001, P = .001, P = .001). Satisfaction of nurses and doctors in the intervention group was significantly better than those at baseline and better than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P = .002, P = .001)., Conclusion: The effect of nursing team construction and training and standardized management of hybrid operating Room was ideal, which can improve nurses' theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and enhance the satisfaction of nurses and surgeons, providing patients with higher quality nursing services, which is worth adopting.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify care strategies developed by professionals from critically ill patients’ units in communicating BD with parents of children and adolescents. Methods: an exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative approach, carried out in two health institutions between October and December 2019, through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis took place through content analysis. Results: twenty-one professionals participated. Three care strategies were identified: actual clinical situation in suspected brain death; sensitizing families to the real clinical situation after brain death diagnosis; and time to assimilate the death information. Final Considerations: the care strategies for communicating brain death to families identified in this study present the possibility of subsidizing health managers in training and support promotion for professionals in care practice. Moreover, they can be incorporated and validated in the care practice of the studied context.

Background & Aim: Leadership style influences nursing team satisfaction, impacting organizational behavior, performance, outcomes, and quality of nursing care. This study aimed to describe the relationship between transformational leadership and nurses' satisfaction with their teams. Methods & Materials: A cross-sectional study with 95 participants enrolled by a snowball sample technique, using the Global Transformational Leadership Scale and the Group Satisfaction Scale for data collection, was developed. Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS 26, and qualitative data were analyzed through conventional content analysis assisted by QDA Miner Lite 4. Results: A statistically significant difference between the participants' length of service and Group Satisfaction and an association between Transformational Leadership and Group Satisfaction was found. Communication skills are highlighted by the participants as characteristics a leader should have. Conclusion: Health organizations should value transformational leadership, especially nowadays, where health work environments are characterized by instability. Training leaders to assume this type of leadership is needed.

Objective: to evaluate the patient safety culture in three hospital institutions, from the perspective of the nursing team. Method: quantitative and cross-sectional analytical study conducted with 303 nursing professionals from three hospitals in Minas Gerais. The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture questionnaire was applied. Descriptive and inferential bivariate statistical analyses were performed. Results: from the perspective of nursing, none of the three hospitals presented strong dimensions for the safety culture. The philanthropic hospital obtained better evaluations in four dimensions in relation to public hospitals. The dimension with greater fragility in all hospitals was “Return of information and communication about error”. Conclusion: from the perspective of nursing teams, all dimensions of the patient safety culture revealed weaknesses in the hospitals under study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the work of the nursing team in the operating room and the physical, psychological, and social damage related to occupational health. Methods: quantitative study conducted from November 2017 to January 2018 in the operating room of a university hospital. The sample consisted of 160 nursing workers who responded to the Work-Related Damage Assessment Scale. Data were analyzed using the Student’s t test, One-Way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Pearson’s chi-square test. Results: psychological and social damage were assessed by workers as low risk by 86.8% (139) and 87.4% (140), respectively. Physical damage was considered a medium risk by 57.9% (93) of the sample. Conclusions: the results direct the attention of managers and the occupational medicine service to physical damage, preventing them from getting worse and thus promoting improvements in working conditions and occupational health.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify burnout and associated factors among nursing workers working in coping with COVID-19. Methods: a cross-sectional study, developed in four hospitals in a capital in southern Brazil. Sample (n=499) composed of nurses and nursing technicians/assistants, who answered an online form containing socio-occupational characterization and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed, including multiple comparison tests. Results: burnout was identified in 60 (12%) workers, with no significant difference between hospitals, but with a difference in dimensions between them. In the emotional exhaustion dimension, a higher proportion (52.9%) was found at a moderate level. Prevalence of high level of professional achievement of 95.4% was identified. Conclusion: the presence of burnout was significantly prevalent among nurses and females. It reinforces the need to develop strategies to promote the health of nursing workers, providing improvement in health services and reduction of care and labor risks.

ABSTRACT Objective: Identify the nursing staff's perception of their relationship with families of newborns and children who are in the process of death and dying. Methods: Qualitative research, carried out in the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of a public maternity hospital in Rio Grande do Norte, with 17 nursing professionals, through a semi-structured interview. After being transcribed, the data were subjected to Bardin's content analysis and interpreted in the light of the theory of Interpersonal Relations proposed by Travelbee. Results: Four categories emerged from the analysis: "Caring and welcoming people, feelings and stories"; "Reactions in the midst of pain: moving between acceptance and suffering"; "Communication of bad news: challenges and strategies"; "The weight of caring and suffering". Final considerations: Family assistance can be established using Travelbee's principles, as they offer timely theoretical support for nursing actions in the context of the process of death and dying.

ABSTRACT Objective: To relate self-reported health symptoms and the impacts of work in terms of physical, social, and psychological illness in nursing professionals. Method: Cross-sectional, correlational study carried out in a public hospital in the southern region of Brazil. A sample of nursing professionals who worked in direct care participated in the study. A social-occupational questionnaire of self-reported health symptoms and the Work-Related Damage Assessment Scale were used. The analysis was descriptive and analytical. Chi-square test and Spearman’s correlation coefficient were used, with a significance level of 5%. Results: A total of 308 professionals participated, with a prevalence of physical illness and higher means for pain in the body, legs and back. Significant relations were identified among the social-occupational variables, health symptoms, and physical, social or psychological illness. High and moderate correlations among the factors investigated were evidenced. Conclusion: The impact of work on nursing professionals’ health is evidenced by the association between self-reported health symptoms and illness, especially the physical or social one, and reinforces the need for professional awareness over situations that are harmful to health.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the occupational injuries and psychological support received by nurses and to investigate the relationship between the two. Method: This was a nation-wide cross-sectional study of nurses working across 1858 hospitals in China. Data were collected using an online structured, self-administered questionnaire between 2016 and 2017. Results: Nearly half of respondents had experienced aggressive behavior from patients or their attendants; 13.4% respondents had experienced aggressive behavior on more than three occasions. 78.96% respondents had experienced needle-stick injuries and 51.22% had experienced psychological trauma. 20.5% respondents believed that hospitals do not pay any attention to occupational safety. 86.1% respondents expressed the need for little or moderate psychological support. Nurses who had experienced aggressive behavior expressed a greater need for psychological support. Nurses working at hospitals that adequately addressed the occupational safety issues expressed the lowest need for psychological support. Conclusion: We found a high prevalence of psychological stress and occupational injuries among nurses. Nursing managers need to address this issue and implement interventions to prevent and reduce injuries.

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare the nursing workload using the Nursing Activities Score (NAS), Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System-28 (TISS-28) and Nine Equivalents of Nursing Manpower Use Score (NEMS) instruments in children admitted to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in a university hospital. Method: A prospective cohort study performed in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, with a sample formed of all children hospitalized during the study period. Nursing workload was evaluated using the TISS-28, NEMS and NAS instruments, and further divided into two groups: Group 1 forming a category of basic activities items and Group 2 forming a category of other support and intervention activities. Results: The sample consisted of 490 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit admissions, totaling 4617 observations. NAS presented the best estimate of total working hours. TISS-28 and NEMS showed better agreement and the results showed strong correlations between NAS and TISS-28 and between NEMS and TISS-28. In Group 1 (basic activities), NAS(1) and TISS-28(1) showed moderate correlation, in Group 2 (specialized activities) the three instruments showed strong correlations. Conclusion: NAS stood out in the evaluation of nursing workload and showed good correlation and agreement with the TISS-28.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the relationship between exposure to workloads and presenteeism among nursing workers in the socio-environmental context of university hospitals. Method: this is a quantitative, cross-sectional and analytical study with 355 nursing workers from two university hospitals in southern Brazil. Data were collected from November 2019 to February 2020. The Workload Scale in Nursing Activities and the Work Limitations Questionnaire were used. Descriptive statistics, variance analysis and Pearson’s correlation test were used. Results: there was a significant correlation between chemical loads and time management; biological loads and time management, physical demand and productivity loss; physiological loads and mental and interpersonal demand, production demand and loss of productivity; psychological loads and production demand. Conclusions: there is a relationship between workloads and nursing presenteeism, verified by limitations and loss of productivity.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to verify the compliance rate of the use of gloves by the nursing team in a hospital environment. Methods: a descriptive study, carried out in a hospital in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, between August and October 2019, through the observation of the nursing team in carrying out a total of 396 procedures. All ethical aspects were considered. Results: 32 different types of procedures were observed. The compliance rate with the use of gloves occurred only in one observation (0.25%). Excluding hand hygiene, it was 60.1% (238). In other 158 (39.9%) opportunities, incorrect use varied between reuse (18.43%), unnecessary use (8.33%) and non-use when necessary (13.13%). Hands were cleaned before using gloves in 1.76% of the observations and in 4.54% immediately after their removal. Conclusions: non-conformities were identified in the use of gloves when observing the performance of procedures by the nursing team.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the nursing team’s adherence to patient safety actions in neonatal units using a validated instrument. Methods: a cross-sectional study, carried out through direct observation of the nursing team and descriptive analysis of 182 records of the “Checklist for patient safety in nursing care during hospitalization in Neonatal Intensive Care Units” in a hospital in the municipality of Belo Horizonte. Results: there was evidence of adherence greater than 90.0% in the units concerning the use of the identification wristband and guidance of the companions. It was identified 79.0% of absence on the checking of wristband identification and 59.0% of the absence of an evaluation of the crib wheels’ locks. Three of the 21 items included in the checklist did not show non-conformities. Conclusions: partial adherence to patient safety actions was observed, especially regarding the target of patient identification and prevention of falls, which exposes newborns to preventable adverse events.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the potential and the limits of the actions of the nursing team in the Primary Health Care for the Health of the Indigenous. Methods: This is a quantitative study guided by the Theory of Practical Intervention of Nursing and Collective Health. 230 nursing professionals participated, responding to an instrument about the frequency of the actions carried out in assistance, management, teaching, and research. Results: 168 nursing technicians and 62 nurses participated. As strengths, 80% participated in the assistance most of the time. Stand out: 90.3% and 71% of nurses carried out nursing consultations and house visits, respectively. As a limitation, the involvement in education and research is small. Only 2% of the interviewees carried out scientific researches, reflecting the need to broaden and qualify care and improve the use of traditional practices, overcoming the biomedical model. Final considerations: Nursing assistance is essential in the modification and monitoring of the epidemiological profile of indigenous populations, and its results allow for the planning of quality actions.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify workloads in nursing work and its association with nursing worker burnout. Method: a cross-sectional study, including 211 nursing workers from a university hospital, between July and August 2016. For the analysis, the descriptive statistics, Chi-Square Test, Fisher’s Exact Test and Mann Whitney U-Test were used. Results: the most evidenced loads were biological. A significant association was found between workloads and workers’ occupation, as well as a significant association between workloads and worker burnout. Burnout caused upper limb pain, neck and lumbar pain, lower limb pain, muscle spasm, lower limb edema, mental fatigue, headache, nervousness, and forgetfulness. Conclusion: workloads identification is a subsidy for the promotion of interventions that minimize the burnout generated to the health of the nursing worker.

Behaviour towards colleagues within the nursing team that undermines teamwork and conflicts with standards and policies can be described as problematic. It is important that nurse managers understand and investigate potential problematic behaviour towards colleagues, particularly in today's healthcare environment where team cohesion and morale are constantly under threat. In this article, the author highlights the challenges for nurse managers and describes the sensitive and respectful exploratory process they need to undertake. Nurses' behaviours are underpinned by beliefs, values and attitudes so investigating potential problematic behaviour warrants an exploration of these aspects with individual nurses and with the nursing team. Objective: to examine the nursing team's view of the repercussions of moving patients (admissions, transfers and discharges) on the organization of work and the delivery of care., Method: this is a qualitative study using the focus group technique, conducted with 23 professionals - 12 nurses, eight nurse technicians and three nurse assistants working in three inpatient units at a teaching hospital in the countryside of Sao Paulo. Four meetings took place between November 2021 and March 2022. The reports were analyzed thematically using MAXQDA software., Results: two thematic categories emerged: the influence of structural factors and work organization on the intra-hospital moving of patients; it demands time, generates work overload and interferes with the delivery of care., Conclusion: the volume of moving patient associated with unforeseen demands, care complexity and insufficient staff and resources have a negative impact on the delivery of care, with clinical risks and work overload. Background: The Children's Oncology Group (COG) is the only National Cancer Institute-supported clinical trials organization focused exclusively on childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG Nursing Discipline Committee has embedded the tenets of evidence-based practice (EBP) into clinical trials nursing in order to standardize the nursing care delivered to children enrolled on these trials. The COG nursing EBP initiative is aimed at developing evidence-based clinical resources and tools to provide guidance to clinicians regarding topics relevant to the provision of cancer treatment for patients enrolled on COG clinical trials from diagnosis through survivorship. A rigorous, evidence-based process designed to guide development of the evidence-based clinical tools and resources within the COG nursing discipline was developed and was implemented with the first nurse expert team beginning in 2012. Method: The standardized process included (a) selecting EBP projects and nursing expert teams (NETs), (b) providing leadership, mentoring, and championship for NETs; (c) approving clinical content developed through the NETs; and (d) providing guidance and oversight over planned dissemination of the COG EBP projects. Results: The COG Nursing EBP Subcommittee has developed 15 publications to date that include 90 authors. Eleven of these authors contributed to multiple publications. Objective: To identify whether safety huddle implementation enabled a change in patient safety culture., Method: Quasi-experimental research that assessed patient safety culture before and after safety huddle implementation., Results.: The study revealed that 53.98% completed the two safety culture assessments, with 60.1% adherence from the nursing team, with a statistically significant difference in the second assessment regarding perception of patient safety and adverse events notified (p < 0.00). Regarding good practice indicators, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.00) was observed in item 43 and improvement in almost all dimensions in the second safety culture assessment. The huddles totaled 105 days, with 100% adherence from the nursing team. Regarding checklist items, all presented satisfactory responses (above 50%)., Conclusion: Safety huddles proved to be an effective tool for communication between healthcare professionals and managers, demonstrating positive impacts on good practice indicators and most safety culture dimensions.

ABSTRACT Objective: to know the structure of social representations of nursing team with regard to homeless persons. Method a qualitative research based on the structural approach of social representations. A total of 96 professionals from the nursing team working in the Psychosocial Care Network units of a Health District of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, who answered the test of free association of words and a questionnaire with socio-demographic data. The data obtained were processed in softwares that allowed the organization of the frame of four houses and maximum similarity tree. Results: poverty, hunger, abandonment and unemployment are central elements of the image of homeless persons, living in a context permeated by drugs, dirt, neglect and vulnerability. Final considerations The social representation structure of homeless persons is anchored in stereotypes that can interfere both in the provision of care and in the access of the people to health services.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the interactions between nursing and hospitalized high-risk pregnant women regarding the possibilities and limits of providing care guided by the principle of comprehensiveness. Method: A qualitative study based on the conceptual framework of comprehensiveness and developed from the precepts of thematic content analysis. Data were collected through open interviews and observation of the care scenario of twelve nursing professionals with hospitalized high-risk pregnant women. Results: Twelve (12) nursing professionals participated in the study. Nursing practices are portrayed from two thematic categories: “Embracement: emotional and informational support” and “Assessing and monitoring gestational risk”. The findings revealed intentions to embrace women, providing informal and emotional support, but under weaknesses in intersubjective relationships. There is an emphasis on “technical success”, not always sufficiently articulated with “practical success” in care actions, with harm to achieving comprehensiveness. Conclusion: The findings revealed that an emphasis on the biomedical management of obstetric risk and structural and organizational limitations of work end up hindering incorporating into daily care the concerns and knowledge necessary for constructing its comprehensiveness.

Objective: identify the associations between the sociodemographic, and work variables, health conditions and lifestyles, and the risks of illness of nursing workers in a psychiatric hospital. Method: analytical cross-sectional study. The sample of 74 workers answered a questionnaire for sociodemographic, work, health conditions and lifestyles survey characterization. The Work Context Assessment Scale and the Human Cost at Work Scale were used to evaluate the perception of the risks of illness in the interviewee’s opinion. A descriptive and bivariate analysis was performed, with significance of 5%. Results: the factors associated with the risk of illness were: insomnia complaints, night work and workday. Conclusion: the associations between the work variables, health conditions and life habits can harm the health of the nursing staff of a psychiatric hospital.

ABSTRACT Objective: In this hospital-based study, we aimed to determine occupational accident perceptions and occupational accident reasons in sample of Turkish nurses. Method: In the study, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, the Workload Scale and a Study Questionnaire Form including the employment characteristics of the nurses, their socio demographic characteristics, and the occupational accidents they encountered. Results: 108 nurses (90 females, 18 males; mean age, 26.42±5.5 years) participated in the study. 68.5% of nurses have undergone at least once a occupational accident. Most of the participants were found to have experienced occupational accidents with approximately half evaluating their occupational accidents risk as high. Most of the nurses worked overtime and in shifts. The mean total scores for the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Workload Scale were respectively 9.09±3.33 and 36.94±6.42. Objective: to analyze the perceptions of nursing professionals about the use of the Infusion Pump in their daily lives in Intensive Care. Method: descriptive-exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, conducted with 15 nursing professionals working in the Intensive Care Unit for Adults of a public teaching hospital in Paraná. Data collection took place in June/2017, through recorded semi-structured interviews, based on the guiding question: could tell me about the use of the infusion pump in your daily work? As for the transcribed data, Content Analysis was employed. Results: positive and negative aspects were highlighted regarding the use of the infusion pump, besides general suggestions for its purpose. Final considerations: although the interviewees perceive the Infusion Pump as a viable way for the assertiveness in volemic infusion, there are disadvantages related to the drop and alarm sensor. Background: An individual's eating habits directly impact on their health conditions, nutritional status, in addition to influencing their daily activities, including work and studies. Objective: To evaluate the diet quality of a nursing professionals. Method: Behavioral and feeding variables were collected through a questionnaire based on the VIGITEL - Surveillance of Risk and Protection Factors for Chronic Diseases. The Diet Quality Index was developed from the diet reported by professionals, assigning points to each food/practice according to frequency of consumption/achievement. Associations between outcome and exposures were evaluated through T Test and ANOVA. Results: Among the 272 subjects, high consumption of legumes, vegetables and fruits was observed, and consumption reduced of chicken and milk, and that the participants did not present the habit of exchange the lunch for snack. There was also a high consumption of soft drinks, artificial juices and sweets. The mean of the diet was 16.8 out of a total of 30 points and higher scores were associated with older individuals, who reported practicing physical activity and who did not consume alcoholic beverages, nursing assistants and those who did not have any other professional activity. Conclusion: The poor quality of the diet of the professionals evidenced the need for clarification about healthy habits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the influence of Accreditation on the professional satisfaction of nursing workers. Method: multicentric, cross-sectional research, outlined by the sequential explanatory mixed method. In the first preponderant, quantitative step, the validated Brazilian version of the Index of Work Satisfaction was applied to a sample (n = 226) representative of nursing professionals from three hospitals. One hospital was private and certified by Accreditation; another hospital was private and non-certified; and another was public and non-certified. By connection, the second step (qualitative) complemented the quantitative analysis. In this step, interviews (n = 39) were carried out and summarized through the method of Discourse of the Collective Subject. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were applied to the quantitative data connected to the qualitative support, as well as a joint presentation of part of the information in a joint display. Results: workers of the certified hospital had a better overall job satisfaction score. There were more statistical associations among workers in private hospitals. The comparison of the three groups investigated in the two steps of the mixed study confirmed Accreditation as a positive factor for professional satisfaction. The public hospital excelled in relation to the certified hospital in terms of salary, job requirements and interaction. Conclusion: Accreditation positively influenced the professional satisfaction of the nursing teams investigated.

Background: Quality Always' Clinical Assessment and Accreditation Scheme (CAAS), which consists of a process of assessments, reviews and accreditation in community healthcare services, was established in 2014 to drive improvements in the quality of patient care. The authors set out to understand whether the methodologies put in place to establish quality patient care were effective within the community nursing setting., Aims: To understand whether a quality and safe care champions network would support frontline community staff to embed evidence-based practice and affect the quality of care received by patients in the community setting., Method: A study was undertaken on data from the CAAS, as well as patient safety and experience data, to identify whether there was any correlation between quality and safe care champions and the quality of patient care., Findings: The authors identified data and practical examples to demonstrate a correlation between the engagement of champions in a community nursing team and improvement in quality standards for patients, including the most effective methods of engaging the community nursing quality and safe care champions., Conclusion: The authors conducted a benefits realisation exercise using elements of the East London NHS Foundation Trust's framework. This provided useful information for the community trust as a proof of concept regarding supporting a network of Quality and safe care champions in the community setting and understanding their impact on safe patient care.

Objective: To analyze the perception of the nursing team regarding patient safety in hemodialysis clinics., Method: Descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted with 37 professionals from the nursing team of five hemodialysis clinics, located in the cities of Sobral and Fortaleza, in Ceará, Brazil. Data were collected from October to December 2021, through semi-structured interviews recorded and analyzed by Descending Hierarchical Classification., Results: Four classes emerged: operation of hemodialysis clinics; role of companions and patients in their safety in hemodialysis clinics; role of the nursing team in the safe care of patients undergoing hemodialysis; international patient safety goals in hemodialysis clinics., Conclusion: The participants recognize the existence of shortcomings in international patient safety goals, mainly errors in patient identification and medication administration.

Abstract Objective: To know the main care procedures of the nursing team in the second stage of the Kangaroo Care Method that contribute to the hospital discharge of the newborn and the continuation of home care, and to prepare an explanatory brochure to guide professionals in the management of hospital discharge. Method: Qualitative, convergent care study, carried out with 17 nursing professionals from a reference maternity hospital. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups and analyzed through content analysis. Results: There were relevant concerns about the use of kangaroo position, about the skin-to-skin care and hygiene of the newborn, and about respiratory changes as a warning sign for intervention. A brochure was developed to showcase the essential care provided by the nursing professionals - its goal is the proper continuation of health care of premature or underweight babies. Conclusion and implications for the practice: Nursing teams can contribute to the clinical stability of the newborn in the second stage of the Kangaroo-Mother Care Method and elaborate educational interventions that guarantee the continuation of care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To conduct a benchmarking comparison of the composites of patient safety culture based on the evaluation of Brazilian and Portuguese nurses working in university hospitals. Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional, comparative survey. Data collected between April and December 2014, in two teaching hospitals, applying the instrument Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture, in the versions translated and adapted to the countries. Results: 762 nurses distributed in four services participated in the study, 195 Brazilians and 567 Portuguese. Seven of the 12 composites of safety culture showed significant differences between hospitals. The highlights were those related to: “management support for patient safety” (±17); “handoffs and transitions” (±15); “teamwork across units” (±14); and “overall perceptions of patient safety” (±10). Conclusion: The dimension that had the highest significant difference between the studied institutions was “management support for patient safety”. These data may support the managers of the study hospitals, enabling continuous improvements and advancements.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the - possible - interference of Accreditation in the work environment of the nursing team. Method: Mixed explanatory sequential method study. The first (preponderant) quantitative phase of the research was the application of the Brazilian version of Nursing Work Index Revised (B-NWI-R) to a representative sample (n = 226) of nursing workers from three hospitals, one of them being certificate of excellence by national Accreditation and two unsealed hospitals. After descriptive analysis of the data, it was possible to connect the information, which culminated in the data collection, through interviews (n = 39), of the second (qualitative) stage of the mixed research. The final analysis included the application of inferential statistics and qualitative analysis by the Collective Subject Discourse (DSC), connected in the B-NWI-R dimensions. Results: There was no statistically significant association in the comparisons. However, the results presented better in the certified hospital, ratifying the DSC of this institution. Conclusion: Accreditation did not significantly interfere with nursing staff perception of the work environment.

Introduction: The evaluation of Burnout syndrome among nursing professionals becomes fundamental given its influence on the outcomes for patients, professionals and institutions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of Burnout among nursing professionals in three public hospitals. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 452 nursing professionals from the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A personal and professional information form and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (Human Services Survey) were used. Results: Most participants showed low levels of emotional exhaustion (38.94%), depersonalization (45.80%) and reduced personal accomplishment (39.16%). The variables age (p = 0.010), hospital (p < 0.001), professional bond type (p < 0.001), time spent in hospital (p = 0.010) and in the department (p = 0.017) were related to emotional exhaustion. Gender (p = 0.013) and time spent in hospital (p =0,007) and the department (p = 0,020) were related to depersonalization. Personal accomplishment was better among professionals working on a certified hospital (p<0.001), during the day shift (p = 0.049), who had a fixed position (p<0.001) and who were older (p = 0.023). Discussion: Emotional exhaustion was characterized as fundamental for Burnout to arise among nursing professionals and depersonalization frequently coincide with emotional exhaustion. The exact definition of the participation of each individual in the outcome of care is difficult to delimit as it might influence the perception of professionals regarding personal accomplishment in work. Conclusions: Personal and professional characteristics were associated with Burnout among nursing professionals. RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a efetividade do uso da aromaterapia com óleos essenciais de lavanda (Lavandula angustifolia) e gerânio (Pelargonium graveolens) associado à massagem para alívio do estresse de uma equipe de Enfermagem do centro cirúrgico por meio da avaliação de parâmetros biofisiológicos e psicológicos. Método Estudo-piloto do tipo ensaio clínico controlado e randomizado, realizado com a equipe de enfermagem de um centro cirúrgico de um hospital escola do interior do estado de São Paulo. A intervenção foi composta de seis massagens com aromaterapia com os óleos essenciais diluídos em creme neutro na concentração de 1% cada. A frequência cardíaca e a pressão arterial foram verificadas antes e após cada massagem e a Escala de Estresse no Trabalho e a Lista de Sintomas de Stress foram aplicadas antes e ao final da intervenção. ABSTRACT On-shift napping can benefit night workers regarding sleep loss, synchronization of circadian rhythms, and alertness. However, few studies on napping can be found in the literature focused on possible health benefits. This cross-sectional study has investigated the role of on-shift napping on the association between night work and BMI in 409 night-shift nursing professionals. The number of working nights and the years of exposure to night work were significantly associated with increased BMI levels among non-nappers, but not among nappers. Results suggest a benefit of napping for weight gain, thus subsidizing occupational health policies on the regulation of on-shift napping among nursing workers.
