14. Inclusive production of $W$ in pp Collisions in a range of center-of-mass energy from 7 to 100 TeV

Abstract

The proton-proton collision energy at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been 7, 8 and 13 TeV recently with the goal of reaching to 14 TeV which is the maximum capacity of the LHC. However, there is still more physics yet to be explored and tested beyond the energy regime of the LHC to reach new discoveries. Therefore, a new collider bigger than the LHC machine, which will be able to collide protons at 100 TeV center-of-mass energy, is under consideration by the high-energy physics community. To provide an insight to the transition from LHC to 100 TeV collider, some properties of W processes are investigated in a range of collision energy from 7 to 100 TeV using HERAPDF2.0, MMHT2014, NNPDF3.1 and CT14 NNLO PDF models at NNLO QCD. The considered properties are the production rates of W, the change of uncertainties (PDF, renormalization and factorization scales, strong coupling constant, model and parameterization), and W boson lepton charge asymmetry., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The primary interactions of polypropylene (PP), poly(vinyl acetate) (PVA), ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polychloroprene (CR) and polyurethane (PUR) polymers preferred in the nuclear industry with gamma and neutron radiations, secondary radiations formed after neutron interactions and damages given to polymers by these ionizing radiations are investigated. The gamma interaction parameters Were determined in the photon energy range of 0.03‐20 MeV using WinXCOM, GEANT4 and FLUKA methods. Also, energy absorption and exposure buildup factors and Kerma parameters are calculated at different photon energies. To investigate the interactions of the studied polymers with neutron, the effective removal cross‐section for fast neutrons with theoretical and the partial neutron rates passing through the studied polymer at 4.5 MeV, 100 eV and 0.025 eV energies are determined with simulation codes. The numbers of secondary gamma‐rays and neutrons Were obtained with GEANT4. The Total Ionizing Dose and Displacements per Atom parameters are studied with the help of FLUKA simulation. It is observed that the interaction of PVC polymer with gamma radiation and PP polymer with neutron particles is higher than the others. The secondary radiation from PVC and CR is less. The PP, PVA, and EVA exhibit superior resistance to radiation damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background/aim: WW domain-containing oxidoreductase (WWOX) loss frequently occurs in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). WWOX loss enhances cisplatin resistance in TNBC patients. Although WWOX loss has an effect on the selection of a DNA repair pathway that contributes to enhanced mutagenesis, the downstream expression changes in resistant cancer cells have not been fully explored. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the regulation of cisplatin resistance in WWOXdeficient TNBC cells. Materials and methods: Transient transfections were performed to overexpress WWOX in MDA-MB-231 cells. WWOX-overexpressing MDA-MB-231 cells were determined by western blot. Expression profiling of the miRNA was assessed via real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: miRNA expression profiling of WWOX-deficient and -sufficient MDA-MB-231 cells revealed that miR-182 upregulation and miR-214 downregulation were markedly positively associated with cisplatin resistance of WWOX-deficient MDA-MB-231 cells. An elevated expression of miR-182 and decreased expression of miR-214 may contribute to cisplatin resistance in WWOX-absent MDAMB-231 cells by signaling pathway dysregulation of DNA repair/apoptosis/protein kinase B (AKT). Conclusion: The results emphasize that WWOX deficiency promotes resistance to cisplatin in TNBC cells and the possible predicting biomarker of WWOX for resistance to cisplatin. 22. High order QCD predictions for inclusive production of $W$ bosons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$$=13$ TeV

Abstract

Predictions of fiducial cross sections, differential cross sections and lepton charge asymmetry are presented for the production of $W^{\pm}$ bosons with leptonic decay up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. Differential cross sections of $W^{\pm}$ bosons and W boson lepton charge asymmetry are computed as a function of lepton pseudorapidity for a defined fiducial region in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. Numerical results of fiducial $W^{\pm}$ cross section predictions are presented with the latest modern PDF models at next-to-leading order (NLO) and NNLO. It is found that the CT14 and NNPDF 3.0 predictions with NNLO QCD corrections are about 4$\%$ higher than the NLO CT14 and NNPDF 3.0 predictions while MMHT 2014 predictions with NLO QCD corrections are smaller than its NNLO QCD predictions by approximately 6$\%$. In addition, the NNLO QCD corrections reduce the scale variation uncertainty on the cross section by a factor of 3.5. Abstract

Measurement of the muon charge asymmetry in inclusive $pp$$\rightarrow$$W(\mu\nu)$ + X at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.8 $fb^{-1}$ recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. With a sample of more than a hundred million $W$$\rightarrow$$\mu$$\nu$ events, the statistical precision is greatly improved in comparison to previous measurements. This new result can provide additional constraints on the parton distribution functions of the proton. This measurement is used together with the cross sections for inclusive deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA in a next-to-leading-order QCD analysis. Abstract

Enerjide sürekliliği sağlayabilmek ve dışa bağımlılığı en aza indirebilmek için ülkelerin birden çok enerji kaynağını kurulu sistemler halinde yönetebilmesi gerekmektedir. Nükleer enerji düşük karbon salımlı bir enerji kaynağı olması sebebiyle çağımızın iklim değişikliği sorunuyla mücadelede kilit rol oynama potansiyeline sahip bir enerji türü olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Nükleer santraller kullandığı yakıt kütlesine oranla yüksek miktarda enerji açığa çıkarabilmesi, hava olaylarından etkilenmeden devamlı olarak enerji üretebilmesi ve elektrik üretim maliyetleri konusundaki öngörülebilirliği gibi kendine özgü özellikleri ile ülkeler tarafından tercih edilmektedir. Türkiye, Japonya ve Güney Kore nükleer güç santrali teknolojilerine sahip olabilmek için erken bir dönemde ve yaklaşık olarak aynı zaman diliminde adımlar atmaya başlayan ülkelerdendir. Japonya ve Güney Kore günümüzde kurulu birçok nükleer santrali ve geliştirmekte olduğu kendi tasarımlarıyla çeşitli alanlarda ulusal ve uluslararası projeler yürütmekte olan iki ülke konumundadır. Türkiye’de başlatılan girişimler için süreç aynı şekilde ilerlememiş ve yapılması planlanan ilk santralin inşaatına 2010’lu yıllarda başlanabilmiştir. Bu çalışmada nükleer güç santrali teknolojilerini elde etme süreçleri birbirine yakın zamanlarda başlamış olan bu üç ülkenin faaliyet süreçleri kronolojik bir düzende ele alınmış ve zaman içerisinde atılan adımlar karşılaştırılmıştır. Türkiye için mevcut durum değerlendirilerek geleceğe yönelik önerilere yer verilmiştir., Countries should be able to manage multiple energy sources in order to ensure continuity in energy and to minimize foreign dependency. Nuclear energy has the potential to play a key role in dealing with the climate change problem of our age since it is a low-carbon energy source. Nuclear power plants are preferred by countries due to their unique features such as being able to release a high amount of energy compared to the fuel they use, producing energy continuously without being affected by weather events, and predictability in electricity production costs. Turkey, Japan and South Korea are among the countries that have started to take steps in an early period and approximately at the same time to acquire nuclear power plant technologies. Today, Japan and South Korea are two countries that carry out national and international nuclear power projects with many nuclear power plants already installed and their own designs that they are developing. The process in Turkey did not progress in parallel with these countries and the construction of the first power plant in Turkey was started in the 2010s. In this study, the nuclear development processes of these three countries which started around the same time, are discussed in a chronological order and the steps taken over time are compared. The current situation for Turkey has been evaluated and suggestions for the future have been given.

Abstract

Finding similarities and differences between metagenomic samples within large repositories has been rather a significant issue for researchers. Over the recent years, content-based retrieval has been suggested by various studies from different perspectives. In this study, a content-based retrieval framework for identifying relevant metagenomic samples is developed. The framework consists of feature extraction, selection methods and similarity measures for whole metagenome sequencing samples. Performance of the developed framework was evaluated on given samples. A ground truth was used to evaluate the system performance such that if the system retrieves patients with the same disease, -called positive samples-, they are labeled as relevant samples otherwise irrelevant. The experimental results show that relevant experiments can be detected by using different fingerprinting approaches. We observed that Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) Method is a promising fingerprinting approach for representing metagenomic samples and finding relevance among them. Includes bibliographical references (leaves 119-130). This thesis analyzes the how the Turkish-American relations altered after the Johnson letter. Referring to US-Turkey association as a “troubled alliance”, this research studies how a once middle-power and a superpower sought cooperation along common interests and how they managed to carry on with their partnership when disagreed. Turkey, as a country whose priority had been to guarantee military aid and development assistance while trying to survive at the onset of the Cold War, sought close ties with the US. It also aspired to balance the hard security threat stemming from the Soviets. Washington capitalized on supporting Turkey thanks to its geostrategic importance as Ankara served as the protector of NATO’s Southeastern flank. However, when the Cyprus issue arose as a major point of discord and the relations reached rock bottom by the Johnson Letter, in addition to few other crises stemming from the Cold War atmosphere, Turkey’s single-minded reliance on the US started to diversify. As Ankara’s foreign policy maneuverability was surging, it adjusted its development aid flow and normalized its ties with the Soviets to a certain extent. The détente period was catalyst for a new Turkish foreign policy trajectory as the tension between Washington and Moscow had been reduced, it served more space for Ankara to navigate on its own course of interests. by Oğul Hasan Özel M.A.
